The event supports a foundation honoring Philip Lootson Kirchen, the ex Auburn player who tragically died in a car crash back in 2014. Mauzan goes way back with Philip, having recruited him first as Auburn's offensive coordinator. He called Philip a special person and feels honored to help keep his legacy alive through these golf outings. During his head coaching run from 2013 to 2020, Mauzan took Auburn to an SEC title and a national championship game. In his debut year, he also coordinated the offense in 2010 when the Tigers snagged the national crown and Cam Newton grabbed the Heisman. Now retired and settled back in Auburn with his two daughters and four grandkids nearby. Mauzan's linking up with current coach Alex Gholish.
