Malcolm McDowell: From A Clockwork Orange to Psycho Killer

Malcolm McDowell shot to stardom at age 29 with his lead role in Stanley Kubrick's 1971 sci-fi hit, A Clockwork Orange. Now 82, the actor recently opened up about how that sudden fame overwhelmed him. He admitted he did not handle the spotlight well and felt scared by it all, offers port and left and right, but the pressure to take bat scripts for the cash or big names made it hard to enjoy. McDowell still kicks himself for turning down Alfred Hitchcock's final film, Frenzy, back in 1972. Even though he called the script rubbish, he now wishes he had just worked with the master director. That intense buzz faded after a while, as it does for many flavor of the month's stars.
