Luke McCaffrey's Breakout Season with Commanders

About this episode

Luke McCaffrey, Washington Commanders wide receiver, enters the 2026 season with high expectations. After a promising rookie year, he showed potential early in 2025 with impressive catches and touchdowns. However, a collarbone injury cut his season short. On March 29th, Washington commanders wide receiver Luke McCaffrey heads into the 2026 season with a lot riding on it. Drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft, he played all 17 games as a rookie, starting four and catching 18 passes. For 168 yards. Last year he flashed big potential early with 11 catches for 203 yards and three touchdowns over the first eight games plus elite. Kick returns averaging 31.8 yards. Things derailed in week nine when he broke his collarbone and missed the rest of the year. Meanwhile, the commanders went hard after free agents like Alec Pierce and Romeo Dows, who both signed elsewhere. General manager Adam Peters still added Diamy Brown and Van Jefferson and they're eyeing the draft with their first two picks or even signing Brandon. Ayukh, if the 49ers let him go. Folks around the team, like play by play guy Bran Weinstein, see McCaffrey stepping up in the slot opposite Terry McCorn. He's only been playing

receiver for four years, but he balled out a rise with 71 catches and 13 touchdowns his senior year. Success runs deep in the McCaffrey family and the team is patient with his growth. New offensive coordinator David Blow brings a fresh scheme that could unlock more for him, building on those encouraging steps from rookie two. Soft more year. One play against the charges last season showed his upside on the field. Bottom line, don't sleep on McCaffrey at age 25. He's still developing, the commanders believe in him and pairing him with another weapon. Could make their passing game pop next year. I'm Cory with the story.
