How about now? There you go. You're so brilliant. See, I would have given up. I would have been like, I'm worried why I'm not doing that. This one. Oh, it's all good. Listen, it happens. I have a husband who's an audio engineer. And so I've gone through this many times. And he's had to come save me. So I've kind of learned a few things about, you know, what to check. Thank you. Thank you for pretty much all my lives from this point forward. I'm booking the shimmy guy. Thank you for your help. So nice to meet you officially in the like video. But, you know, I was, I was excited. Yeah. I posted. So the last time I was on, I was with as a guest. Okay. I just hopped in and it was, it seemed pretty smooth. But yeah, no. Now we figured it out. This is awesome. So I wanted to take this time to really get to know you.
And I think I'm not quite sure how sub stack works in a sense of like, is it. It should be populating out to both your people and my people and all things with the algorithm and stuff like that. But I wanted to really just get to know you because, you know, as hosting, I wanted to spend a lot of time. So I'll go down all the tangents and I just really want to know how my people might be able to benefit from what you have to share and what you're here to do inside sub stack and outside of sub stack and your community and your world. And from what I've seen so far, you've got so much love. And so many people that are like, should we go something and so far, you know, from what I'm reading, you are. Thank you for jumping on today. No problem. Thank you. I'm excited. Yeah. So who are you? Listen, when people ask me this question, I always get stumped because I'm just the person I show up. And I feel like, let me show up and you decide who you think I am. Right?
You need me need me to be. Yeah. But, you know, I am, I am a woman who has experienced what success was supposed to feel like. And I had a harsh reality that, depending on how you feel, success does not feel as good as it looks. And so my journey started out with an amazing brand called Market like a Bogal, where I was teaching marketing and launch strategies, you know, to teach you how to build your first six in your launch. And I had an amazing brand to powerful community had an event where we close 305 K sales this on an open day. Everything was so amazing. And six months later, I'm sitting in a hospital because I was burned out. And I was also in three different masterminds at the time and not a single coach was able to, you know, support me through that.
And not that I blamed them because they were doing what I hired them to do, which was giving me business strategy. My therapist was unable to help me identify what was going on because therapists, they normally studied patterns from your past. And then, you know, the mindset coach was just like, Hey, it's just a fear of success. You know, it's just imposter syndrome. All of the things and the entire time, I no longer feel safe with success and my body was signaling that to me. And so that journey, that moment changed the trajectory of my life and it changed. And it really ignited the fire within me to work with the person behind the business. Because with marketing, while I've always dealt with the person, I was more tactical and more strategic when I was teaching marketing. And I kind of got away from what I feel is my passion and my purpose. And that's that person behind the business, you know, not just teaching them how to make more money, but teaching them how to do it in a way that it doesn't cost them their will be.
That it doesn't cost them their homefronts, you know, their relationship with their children and things like that. And so I believe that the woman behind the business is more important than the success that she accomplishes because she's only as successful as she feels safe. And so that's why I do what I do. That is what you feel like, I'm like, she says it's so much more eloquently than I do. But that is not as literally what I do in a more of in a bringing safety into self and identity from neurodivergence, neurodivergent perspective. And, you know, I think that we experience that on the same very fundamental, I want to even argue to a cellular level, it's that you can't pour from the empty cup, you can't put your oxygen, you have to be able to put your oxygen mask on first. And, you know, until you can find safety in self until you can find safety in environments and in people and relationships.
It's like building a house on sand and it doesn't there's no sustainability. I did the same exact thing had the same journey, the same arc, you know, being real in real estate and it's such a hustle grind culture. I had the best years of my career getting all the accolades and the awards and I can remember going up and accepting a reward or no it's a reward but an award for production. And in the eyes that success and I was going like this is the least successful I've ever felt in my life, I was two seconds away from being hospitalized. I just body failing and every yourself worth being tied to your productivity in it. Like that, that aha moment where it was like some this is just not, this is not what success should look like. No, absolutely. And when you're in the, when I was in that hospital bed, I wasn't thinking about my business, you know, I was thinking about my two little glam princesses who are here for spring break.
You know, I was thinking about I'm not going to be able to watch them grow up, you know, I won't be able to see my grandchildren have children, I won't be able to attend the graduations and all of the things. So when none of the other stuff mattered and that's when I knew that it's so important for us to really not just self care with many pennies, mutations and massages right those are recovery and maintenance things. They are not self, they are not really prioritizing you. It's just another thing to do, right? You're not safe, you know, it doesn't, it doesn't, it doesn't, those things are supportive, but they are not where, you know, where we start. And that's also why I don't believe in the hustle to start mentality because you mentioned foundation and the truth is the foundation you build it up on. You, the only thing that's going to withhold it is the same strategy that you started with.
Right. So sometimes we have to break those things apart. And I believe that it's so challenging for many of us because we don't want to lose, we don't want to feel like we're losing, we don't want to miss our money or we don't want to destroy what we built, we have to have an honest conversation though, you're actually already destroying what you built because you're destroying the person that built it. Yes, yeah, and it's just like, and it's so hard, I think, for, for people not, it's, it's a fine line because you, like you said, it's that everyone says, take messy action and take, you know, take the steps forward and take the steps forward. And, you know, the, the challenge because but and though at what cost and I don't want to build something where my dish runs away with the spoon and that sustainability factor has not been at least at the forefront of the discussion of my action.
I don't want to make, I don't want to take messy action and not be able to and take continuous max messy action, if it's taking me down a path that disrupts my. Your, your foundation has to be able to weather that like it so it's like yeah and I feel like that's the conversations that I love having with very like minded people like you that it starts with yourself right starts with the body it starts with like regulation, I want to say so that when you can actually find safety and self that it's always there. So it's like I, I can build something and then pivot because my, my foundation has not changed. Absolutely. It's that whole process that you're saying it's that it's so vital and I think it's the way I hope that the coaching world is shifting the journeys on to healing our shifting.
And there was one other thing I really wanted to oh that you just you brought up that was like yes and it'll come back to me but it's it's yeah I think it's the it's the piece that it's where you have to start for everything else to truly find result joy success. All you have to be able to live. No, I think it's all my stuff. We have a virus. Anyway, okay, yeah, so yeah, continue on please so you came out from that and said okay, we're doing this backwards. Yeah, absolutely. We're going in the wrong direction. Yeah, the thing is to you can do it messy just don't do it messy and miss a line.
You know, because a lot of times we start to build things that are outside of what I call our divine design. And we allow people to convince us that we have a mindset issue when it's truly just misalignment with how I'm designed to build. In a way that I can steal seven to ten years later, do these implement these same structures, these same strategies rather. And I'm not laying in a hospital bed or I'm not now diagnosed with you know some type of autoimmune disease or you know I'm having consistent migraines and the doctors can't explain why. And it's because I'm building something that I was never designed to carry. Right. And so we have to make sure that we are not allowing someone to convince us that we have a mindset or fear success or fear failure. Any of those things when it's truly just no I'm not designed to build in that way. Right. And so if you do continue to push outside of that guess what happens your body your body has to shut down because you ignore every sign it's been signaling.
Right. You know so your body has to do a hard stop to say hey listen to me you're carrying a weight that's not yours. You're building in a way that goes completely against how you can do this in an effective and efficient you know in a sustainable manner. And so that's why a lot of high performers have to hit their bodies have to shut down their businesses have to tank. And it's not because you're not doing the things you're supposed to you're you know doing the right things to go. You're successful. You're successful but your body is saying listen. Danger danger danger danger. Fire alarm is going off. However, when we've been when it has been indoctrinated into us to detach from our bodies because that's what hustle does. Detached from your body completely ignore the pain ignore you know just anything that's coming up for you ignore the that's feeling that you're getting in the pit of your stomach that's saying no no no.
Ignore that it's just fear no it's not always just fear right but we have not been taught to actually trust ourselves. We've been taught to trust we've been taught by the social norm is information by it's which is trust the person who who sound smarter than you. Trust them more than you trust yourself and you know it's informative yeah and so we get in that space where we begin to ignore what we know to be true for ourselves because we're not taught that we're taught from adolescent to trust someone else other than yourself our entire lives. Can you tell me how I'm supposed to be. Tell me. I'm supposed to do this great the whole time I'm like I hate doing that I don't want to do that right. That's how it got for me with even with market like a mobile.
I had so many people said oh my god you're so amazing you're writing is so powerful you know you just more I love the way you market I love the way you market. I love the way I market it as well however I knew that was the that was only for a season of my life right. I knew internally I was called to do deeper work I knew my work was supposed to be transformational and while marketing made me money my passion when I live up was when someone said hey my life is changed not because of the money I've made but I like my husband again. You know I have weekends off with my children again hey I didn't take my my laptop on vacation this time you know you get what I'm saying I look at the woman in the mirror and I love that person I love her again those types of things are what lit me up yet people kept pushing me to say no just keep doing marketing that's where the money is that's where the money is no.
I can make more money doing the transformation work than I ever be able to do you know making marketing because my passion is there my presence is there I'm allowing in that space and so many of us are building businesses that we truly didn't necessarily want to feel but because there was profitable we pursue the path. That was me completely 100% I was I was fresh out of fresh out of recovery which was again doing stuff in life that I didn't want to do and was sustaining that for such a long period of time undiagnosed ADHD like all the things like it was. Complete overload and so obviously you know we tend to go and cope especially when you're neurodivergent and quiet everything you know you end up turning to substances and doing all those things I got sober and the first thing I said was okay I have to prove and I have to to find something that's going to prove that I'm a good human.
Not that drinking made me bad but that and I didn't anything majorly bad but it was that same kind of concept it was that you know I jumped into real estate just because I was like it's got to be something and then like it was my last ditch effort and then I got into this building this beast and it was like it was eating me alive and I'm going like and everyone's like but you're so good at it and I'm going yeah and I'm just like but it's killing me. Absolutely not and I'm not passionate about it like I don't wake up in the morning to think about like and that was what transition for me since 2023 I had this big aha I found human design and my it was like divine timing my real estate team which I was an owner of dissolved and it was back to square one I'm an individual agent. Very good terms with all my partners and my people but it was like now what and I was like I already know how that was being built and how that wasn't an alignment and I'm like I'm not starting that again and I already recognize I think that it's like that you have to get to the point sometimes where you feel like the pain is big enough to say no more.
And then how do I then pivot restructure and start to have dialogue and language with my body so that I no longer fear the inability to sustain what I'm building because I'd never had that before. I don't know if you were the same way but when you were laying in a hospital bed you're going like I had a very similar experience where I was almost like petrified to start something new. Yeah yeah because you're because of course it's memory right it's also memory and your body is going to say the last time you did this this happened right so now you have to make I did a master class called the reset and it was called the recent make success feel safe again because you have to generally you have to learn how to create safety with it again once you have experienced something.
Traumatic you know your body now connects it to this success that you had and so your body is going the harder you push the harder your body is going to push to protect you because that's what God designed it to do to protect you right. Right God's a genius I'm like he's the real genius here you know and so you have to now create recreate or create that safety because it's a threat now it seems as a threat yeah and it's like and it is it seems it doesn't make logical sense no because you know how to do the things you know to do you know how to do it you know and for me I was struggling with things like. What's CTA to add to the post come on from a marketing genius I know right from a word Smith yeah you know yeah and I couldn't even figure out how to write a CTA my brain was shutting down yeah you know or content what should I post are you serious you know 17,000 notes in your phone you have.
500 journals go pull a line right no concept problem but again the confusion was not about what to write what to say it was my mind my body was saying if I give you that what's going to happen right yeah you can't like you can't endure this again so like it almost it it almost forces you. To bridge the gap between your mind and your body yeah that's what's that really good saying it's just like you can push until like you can keep going you can keep ignoring it and eventually your body because your body knows every time your brain catches up body doesn't lie if you want to know the truth about what you feel what you think your body is already communicating to you what your mind has tried to intellectualize yes and it's like that that's the gap that I feel like these thought leaders like we're jumping into that space where we know okay and then starting with self and it's like I have to learn the language of of how to communicate so that I can ensure that it's always safe for me to go back there and so that I can stand solid.
And what I'm building and be like we're saying before be able to pivot or be able to say this isn't you're going to understand and know whether or not something's an alignment with for you so much quicker when you are safe here yes when you're going like I don't even know like if I'm going to be able to sustain this no I know this is an alignment with what I'm trying to build yes I can sustain it or yes I can put guard rails in place so that it is sustainable for me absolutely. Absolutely yeah yeah oh my gosh it's these conversations that just that oh it gets me so excited absolutely like people like oh I guess they're waking up and they're getting it this is amazing and that like hustle is not it's it's so unattractive it's like it's like the trauma it's that the trauma that all it is that's all it is and I tell people all the time especially for those who are believers you know I say you do know that hard work in hustle you know how do I do it? hard work is a curse from the fall of man right like it it's not it's not it was never supposed to be a work ethic and it's it's become more than a work ethic is become an identity so many people yes they find their identity and how much pain they've had to endure how much they've had to sacrifice to get where they are
right how many obstacles they've overcome this is become an identity because when you would that one of the ways you know it's an identity is because you will subconsciously reject ease when any time because it did not cost you anything to get it you feel like you don't deserve it unless you had to make some kind of great sacrifice or endure some type of hardship to get there is it's not the same is easy easy is simply a better way to do the thing to get the result you want to give don't we all want that that's why do you think we use automations yeah I do the child in the child this is a crazy part who I just lost an airing the crazy part oh sorry I'm one big that's my dog so the crazy part is the when you when it's it's not just you it's then this ripple effect and then I had a business partner that I could see this like playing out in real time it was and we see this a lot in the household culture industry is that you then expect or put those expectations on the people around you
so it's not just me saying I have to do these things I have to sacrifice I have to hurt I have to you know grind and and and you know it's got to this is first business first and it has to be this this number one for so long until you get it off the ground and like everything else falls to the way side then you you begin to expect everybody else around you to do it and then when they don't you then are are putting shame and guilt and this identity that you can't do something because it comes easy to you and it's it's literally all backwards it's completely backwards I'm like you my our job as leaders is not to say you must do it like me right it's to say how can we get you to show up completely aligned so that this is is easy as possible for you and that you find passion and joy behind what you're doing instead of going like I'm a good soldier I can conform you know like I'm not that's not leadership that's
like and that's completely our culture and how everything has been built absolutely it's just and the irony is they'll tell you in the beginning find the thing that's easiest for you to do and that's how you make the most money but then when you get into the business ease is frowned upon you know it's punished you know and you're right that pressure is put on your team and then if the team doesn't live up to those standards or expectations there they're you know accused of not being committed to the vision or not having what it takes or not being you know top leaders or or pro they're they're not productive enough or any of those things and it's just not true but this is even why I used to tell people whenever you're hiring a coach what you have to understand is you're not just hiring them to help you get the results you want you're hiring the belief system you're hiring their behaviors so if you don't want to hustle but the person you're hired to get you the results believes in hustle guess what's going to happen you're either going to have to hustle like they did or you're not going to get the results because you're not willing to do what they did to get there so don't just hire someone because they can
help you make a certain amount of money hire them their values their vision right the vehicle that they're using to deal with their building because essentially in order for you to replicate the results you have to replicate everything that they are doing and that means the belief system that they're operating on yes and and until there's enough people that that place the value system on going in first like it's just all here's the next tactic here's in what's gimmick here's the next like block scheduling and literally spacing no time for like it's just it's it's it's toxic like and I I'm a victim of it not victim I'm I've lived that experience first or multiple times especially in the online space is because it is like I just you want it to be easy and it's there's someone said this there's the there's hard we we can do hard things and we are meant to do hard things we're meant to do impactful things but there's a right kind of hard mm-hmm there's an aligned hard yeah
and like there's a force and there's a push and there's a manipulation that kind of goes behind something when it's not aligned right I mean you know I feel like that's that's the there's that big shift that's going on I feel I think we are all failing of how we're transitioning into how we move and we act as leaders how we move and we act in society and really truly coming back to saying like I want to emulate values instead of like you said I want to emulate us a tactic or something that's so superficial that's not sustainable and that's that's unfortunately I think what we only see when we're online and we're saying I want to hire a coach like it's hard to discern that I think sometimes until you're in there
well I believe it is because we ignore the behavior by focusing on the big picture because if you stop long enough to pay attention to what they're doing versus what they're saying you will see the income that's yeah right and I haven't seen something and I and I see it a lot of times like a person will say that they are anti hustle yet you see them every day all day none stop online right now this doesn't mean that things can't be scheduled right you get it was like I actually leverage it leverage out the behavior just look at the daily activities their daily lives like what are they actually doing and don't just look at the message because messages can be crafted right carefully curated messages and
content is what we see oftentimes but when we look at the actual behavior what is this person actually doing we can see again the incongruence we see the inconsistency between what they're saying and what they're doing because don't tell me that you prioritize your family but you're never with your family right okay or the own time with your family is when it's time for bed right yeah okay and this is why I always challenge when people say well I'm doing this for my family but you're if you're doing it for your family wouldn't have to cost you your family to do it right so if your children are saying you're always busy if you're spouse is saying oh another late night right you're always on your phone the truth is in the the people around you observe behaviors that you are not really honest about all of the times right my honest moment was when my son came in from school and he's saying mama mama and I said what I'm busy and he said I know you're always busy
mm-hmm stop me dead in my tracks because what I realized was the message I was communicating wasn't the reality I was living and it took that moment for me to step back and say okay what are you what where are you misaligned something is misaligned here so we again if we stop long enough to really just pay attention to what people are actually doing and not just what they're saying we'll see it and we won't invest yeah because the truth is in the behavior not in the language yes hundred percent that's like again it is linking back it's like saying okay take the logic take the mind out of it mm-hmm and say okay what are they doing how are they doing it yeah we do we are attracted to the messages come on we have AI you know that can you can put somebody else's message in it and say hey I want my message to be like this right and AI can shoot you out something and it sounds so good right however the like my granny would say
the meat and potatoes of it it's not the same yeah it's not the same so I always tell people I said hey pay attention to the behavior as well you know and it's not to be you know the person that's just skeptic of everything right like that's not what I'm talking about yeah deeply discerning before you make that you know that rash decision to just invest because the message resonated and I think too like to your point like when we come back to saying to self sometimes we don't know what to look for because we don't know what we don't know ourselves we don't know ourselves so like I'm I we do I think Kelly roached you know the lady that's one our day the sub-sac challenge anyway Kelly she incredible coach she talks about convention conviction marketing and it's literally coming back and I've been having those
discussions with people in my world constantly and I'm saying hey how are we until we know ourselves until we know what we would be willing to stand up on that soapbox for and like color in the streets you know until our message was heard like those are the types of things that as we develop them I think become those not say green flags like I want to say red flags but like green flags for me it's just like and go okay and go so like focusing on your convictions for me is almost like getting the junk out of the street it's like saying okay that that obstacle is out of the way that obstacle is out of the way and it's almost like giving me something to look for in my surrounding environment with the people my relationships so that I know that I'm I've got the green light that's like okay invest or okay they're I want to quote unquote safe they're an alignment
and I think that that's a really good start yeah absolutely because you don't know what's true to you until you learn how to trust yourself yeah you know and a lot of us have not reconciled that many of the systems that we operate under were borrowed beliefs from someone else that we trusted or someone who had the life that we aspire to have and so we borrow certain belief systems from them without even testing to see if they're true for ourselves right so it really does require radical honesty do I believe this because this is true for me or do I believe this because this is a belief that I borrow from someone that I admire for that I aspire to be right right because there are so if we start to peel back the layers we will see that a lot of the things that we thought we believe weren't really true for us no no like yeah that
that main point that things are supposed to be hard I mean like that life is hard it can't be hard and what I do a long time ago hard and Shamika did not go together like I do that my mom told me when I was young because my mom is a woman who she works with her hands she's pulled motors out of cars and and and transmissions and she's replaced them she's built houses with you know with her hands she does carpentry she's done so many these things and I'll never forget the day I knew hard work was not for me because she was on top of the roof replacing shingles and she wanted me to climb up the ladder to bring her a pack of shingles and I looked at her I said no and she said well you're going to have to make a lot of money doing something or marry a man with a lot of money because you don't like to do any hard work I said and that's what I will do miss ma'am thank you and that started my journey
what you did you know my wish okay but I don't wish my past 10 goals I want to be like shingles I learned quickly how to make money that in a way that you know did not require a lot of extraneous and aggressive work my first hard job I was fired because I fell asleep on the job okay I knew so so God was continuing to prove to me that daughter that's not your lane I'm gonna teach you what I'm doing it different way that is so freaking cool like I I so part of me so which is like oh my gosh like that choice like I didn't have to like I didn't have to like I didn't have to make it so hard and I get it's it's really it's really funny that I don't know if it's a neurodivergent thing a question about because we go deep and we have lots of patterns and we're like it's deep fast here we go
like hang on and I sometimes wonder how much we over complicate the sample how much harder we have we make it for ourselves it does not have to be so it really doesn't and that's when you when you don't know who you are you become what you do okay so because you don't know who you are you become what you do guess what happens as a byproduct of that hard work becomes your identity yep you find your worth and your value and all of the things that you had to give up to get what you're going you find your worth in your value with you know having to do it the the hard way trudging through the walk you know through the mud right yes that's what you know yeah because it's now again because hard work is not an ethic at that
point it becomes who you are it's an identity yep and I think that too you know with my I work a lot with obviously neurodivergent people the the identity are is is challenged from such a young age oh yeah we don't fit we don't fit come on how we think we don't fit in how we act so there is no safety and self like there's no safety and being who we are and following that path because so then we're taught to go against our wiring yes we're taught to go against ease mm-hmm and speaking our minds because we're 20 steps ahead and we can tell you you're gonna fall off the ladder and we tell you you're gonna fall off the ladder and then we get blamed when they fall off the ladder we're going like what we told you so it's like that whole concept so it is a lot of conditioning and I think a lot of unlearning the things about yourself and
unveiling or revealing mm-hmm not I would say it's always been there it's not finding yourself I think it's it's it's there it's just kind of covering all of them cover yeah who you are is already there who you are was already enough what you needed to do what you were called to do was already there it just be uncovered you know the labels the lies and the limitations just have to now be uncovered so the true essence of who you are can shine you know shine through that because even as adolescents we come into the world knowing who we are our identity was established before we were born yes those already established so we know but somewhere along the way someone tells us that who we are is not good enough right so and it starts and it's not always intentional most of the people who try to shape us have good intentions you know because they were they think they're protecting you yes but they're actually protecting themselves through you the fears that they've had the failures they've had they're protecting
themselves through you you know but we know who we are think about the kid that comes into the world there's a baby right now somewhere that's probably three months old here's a song and immediately starts to move yeah no one taught that child how to dance exactly yeah yeah you have the one year old that picks up a stick and starts beating on something to make music before he ever sees a person playing a drum that babies a musician you have the child that goes in and tears up all their toys and you're like what are you doing that child probably has an ear mine right but if they're punished for that or they're scolded then they're even going after that it creates that fear immediately because their mind is already programmed if I do this there's going to be some kind of punishment for punishment consequence yes yes so we already know who we are we have to have the the the courage you know to be it in a world that applause cookie cutter
that applause you know replicating someone else you know yeah right right so I think that the it's like the what it what's like the I think that in of itself is the the the thing that just takes us the furthest away it's the most profitable and yet it is the most devastating to culture as just like removing your unique advantage yes conformity we conform because rejection is a real fear for many rejection and abandonment are true years and social conformity is a real thing because we would rather be connected than criticized yes yeah you're so brilliant with words I just I'm just like I could listen to you all day
I'm like she sounds so eloquently I have like it's like a it's like a it's like a brain fart from the time my head gets to my mouth and I'm like I'm my my head and I know it's an ADHD thing my head is going like 5 million miles a minute and my mouth can't catch up it's going I appreciate you like being able to express this in such a such an eloquent and graceful and kind and I think very um relatable way you know like yeah I think you have such a gift thank you my tagline used to be real raw and relatable they used to be my tagline culture look at that I didn't even know see you're welcome well I know you've got a hop off here in about a couple minutes
