Lions' Vaki Poised for RB Role
About this episode
The Detroit Lions backfield has seen significant changes this offseason. After trading David Montgomery, theyve signed Isiah Pacheco to fill the number two role. Meanwhile, Sione Vaki, a fourth-round pick from Utah, is getting a chance to shine. Despite limited offensive snaps due to strong play ahead of him, Vaki showed promise in college and could see more carries in 2026, especially with Pachecos potential adjustments or injuries.

On March 27th, the Detroit Lions made big moves in their backfield this all season. They traded running back David Montgomery, leaving a gap behind Star Jamir Gibbs. To fill it, they signed former Kansas City Chiefs, back Isaiah Pacheco, who now looks set to handle the number two role. Meanwhile, third year player Cione Vocky is getting a fresh shot. The Lions grabbed him in the fourth round of the 2024 draft out of Utah, shifting him from safety to running back in special teams. Duty. Vocky showed promise in college, rushing 42 times for 317 yards and two scores in his final season there. But so far in the pros, his often snaps have been scarce thanks to the strong play ahead of him. Last year brought setbacks with hamstring and groin injuries, sidelining him through much of training camp and six of the first eight games. They kept him mostly on special teams. With Montgomery gone and Craig Reynolds out too, Vocky now competes for the number three spot and could see real carries in 2026, especially if Pacheco needs time to adjust or deals
with nagging injuries again. That's your update from NFL News Today, powered by AI. I'm Corey with the story.
