Lions Lose Backup QB, Seek New Depth

0:00For NFL coverage, this is your March 10th update. The Detroit Lions face another gap on their roster this offseason after backup quarterback Kyle Allen agreed to join the Buffalo Bills. The 30-year-old veteran is set to sign a two-year deal worth $4.1 million when the league year starts on March 11th. This move reunites Allen with Joe Brady, his former offensive coordinator who just became the Bills head coach. Allen had spent the past year in Detroit on a one-year contract. During his time with the Lions, Allen saw very limited action, appearing in just three games and growing only two passes in the 2025 season. Jared Goff handled 98.5% of the offensive snaps. Allen's strong preseason play last year was key, as it helped the team move on from their experiment with Hendon Hooker. Now, with him gone, Detroit must scout for fresh depth behind Goff. Goff has not missed a start since week 17 of the 2021 season, but the Lions still need reliable backups amid their many other.
