Leicester Council Approves 20mph Speed Limit

0:00In Lester today, March 1st, Lester City Council has approved a new 20 miles per hour speed limit for more than a dozen streets in the North-Evington neighborhood around. Clumber Road. This includes traffic calming measures like eight new speed humps on Clumber Road and Copdale Road as part of a 45,000-pound safety scheme. The changes cover streets such as Benson Street, Crown Hills Avenue, and Nottingham Road, among others. Officials say these updates will make the area safer for residents and slow down traffic effectively. Mayor Sir Peter Solzby called the plan a good fit for the community. He noted that the Council consulted residents, businesses, and local counselors before moving forward with the approval earlier this week. This project fits into the city's long-term push to add 20 miles per hour limits on at least 80 percent of residential streets.
