Learning to Beat Your Addictions with Cormac Murphy
About this episode
“Talk to a loved one, talk to a friend, because if you don’t talk to anyone how are they supposed to know what’s going on in here? If you’re struggling with a mental health issue, how are people going to know unless you talk?”
In this week's episode Scott is joined by Cormac Murphy, who became a close friend after meeting in 2018 at PHD nightclub in New York City. Cormac began working in bars and nightclubs across the city and eventually built up a successful event business as one of the only Irish promoters in town. However, the social pressure and exuberant lifestyle of the nightlife scene led him down a path of substance misuse and addiction, specifically alcohol and cocaine.
You’ll hear them discuss how developing suicidal tendencies during the height of his cocaine use motivated him to move back to Ireland where his parents helped him get into rehab, how working as a personal trainer and helping other’s get in shape has helped him to stay disciplined and the importance of speaking out about mental health issues in order to kick start your journey to recovery.
