Lawrence H White: Bitcoin or Gold?

Lawrence H. White is a professor of economics at George Mason University, and a senior fellow at the Cato Institute. He is considered an expert on banking and monetary policy, and has written a number of books on money and banking including,  The Clash of Economic Ideas (Cambridge University Press, 2012), The Theory of Monetary Institutions (Basil Blackwell, 1999), Free Banking in Britain (2nd ed., Institute of Economic Affairs, 1995), and Competition and Currency (NYU Press, 1989).

Recently I’ve been more vocal on twitter about gold’s failings as ‘money'. On one of those posts, Lawrence responded, and a lengthy back-and-forth ensued. It was suggested that we move the conversation over to a podcast format for a more in-depth discussion. Keyvan Devani (Total Bitcoin Podcast) and Daniel Prince (Once BITten podcast) thought it might be fun to join in on the action too. Despite my thinking that this may cause Lawrence to feel as though he would be ganged-up on, he agreed to come on for a chat, so we put it together!
