Knightdale's First Local Coffee Shop Opens

Unhinged coffee co, started by Johnny Mocha and Cody Vaughn, plans to open an early April inside the old rewind retro bar on North First Avenue. The idea began as a lighthearted logo design, but Vaughn left his 20-year corporate job to pursue it. They launched a coffee cart at a local farmer's market last May and ran pop-ups right there in the same building. Residents have welcomed the spot as a needed community hub for chatting, working, or relaxing without heading to bars or stores. It already built connections through events like mental health meetups that ease stigma around wellness. The menu keeps it simple, with lattes, drip coffee, and cold brew all day, switching to beer, wine, and THC drinks at night. Baked goods and warm dishes rounded out, sourced from nearby roasters like the music coffee co, and the left hook. With help from local partners, they're refreshing the space with bright paint, murals, and seating for 70 to 80.
