On March 4th, a 23-year-old man from Chad faces charges after a violent incident in West Edinburgh that sent two people to the hospital with. Non-life threatening injuries. Police arrested him on Monday morning following reports of someone wielding knives on the streets near Calder. The man had also broken into a nearby shop before barricading himself in a tower block. Armed officers arrived around 8.30 a.m. and contained the situation during a 10th, 7-hour standoff on the 11th floor. No one else was harmed during the police operation, and authorities quickly ruled out any terror links. Local schools and a nursery went into lockdown as a precaution, alarming residents in the area, neighbors described a chaotic scene, but police later clarified there were no attempts to enter any buildings or schools, and it was not a hostage event. The suspect, who has lived in Edinburgh for three years, received treatment for injuries before his arrest. One victim had stab wounds, while the others suffered a head cut from something other than a blade, both have been discharged from the Royal Infirmary.
He is due in Edinburgh's Sheriff Court on Wednesday, with police maintaining a presence in Calder for community reassurance as investigations continue.
