3:09My sincere condolences slash apologies to anyone who stayed up late to watch that. And even more so, because I just happened to hear from a couple of fans who either were going to the game tonight, shout out to my guy John Henson and his son. I hope you guys still had a good time or new people who were going to the game tonight. And you know, had to ultimately end up with a very frustrating loss that was frustrating on several levels that I'm going to I actually just before we went live, I wrote down a top five, most reasons to or biggest reasons to be frustrated with that game, which I'm going to go through in a bit. But before we even get to that, just really it's thanks to go over LA because I thought the next look, I mean, we were all singing Hosanna's after the Denver game as we should

4:13have. That was a great game. They were playing great, you know, you look at the stretch that they were in. I think you could argue that the three games that they played against San Antonio, O'Casey and Denver, what is that, 142, you know, 144 minutes of basketball, I think you probably argue is the best 144 minutes of basketball. They played all year, considering the quality of the opponents and how well they played on both ends of the court. And you looked at this little mini trip to LA, you figure just like, yeah, everybody would have loved to know, but you were like, just get one of them, get one of the games, keep the momentum going, either beat the Lakers, keep the, you know, streak going, and then all right, you fall in the second line of back and clippers understandable, lose to the Lakers. All right, that's fine. Make it up tomorrow night against the lesser LA based team. And you came out of it, O for two, so that's bad enough, so it's like a lot of the momentum

5:16you gained during that nice stretch has kind of dissipated now. But more than that, it was the, as it usually is with this team, as it almost always is with this team, it was the how more than the what. And I know a lot of people for late night games rely on the podcast to kind of catch them up on how this, how the game actually went down. So I'm going to try to do a little bit more summarizing than I probably would usually do for a post game. And I'm going to, again, go through my top five reasons why this game was incredibly frustrating. Number one, I'm not going to start where you think I'm going to start you think I'm going to start with the turnovers. Oh, they've, they're a worthy runner up. Don't get me wrong. And we're going to talk about them in a bit, but I'm actually going to start with the defense. And because the one, even in the Laker game, the one refreshing thing, the one silver lining if you will, about the Laker game was that they stayed in it until the very end on a night when they could not do anything offensively. And it was purely because of their defense.

6:18And this is, you know, Ben, whatever, what are we now at 22, 23 game, 23 games, I think, where their defense, you know, with the exception of like two games has been absolutely top notch. And I think this is the first time in a really long time. You saw that defense let up in a way that was, um, I don't want to, that unsettling or anything like that, but like, it was, it was unfortunate because this clipper team is not a great offensive team. And I, we're going to get to the shots that they made, but I thought like this Nick defense should be able to defend the clippers straight up. And they, you could tell they like started to let go of the rope. I thought at the end of the first half, I thought there was some effort stuff there. And again, how many times over the last like two months or a month and a half, whatever, have you been able to question the next effort?

7:19I thought you could question their effort a little bit on the defensive end, but I also thought they were doing some nice things like a lot of my notes early in this game was how well I thought Carl and he towns was defending. There was a switch that he got on Darius Garland, which I thought was really, really good on, um, you know, I thought there was some nice aggressive car on the town's D when he popped out and it led to him a cow bridge is steel, um, you know, we had that nice block on, on Ben, Matt, they're in late and, but they were, for most of the game, they were playing him in drop. And it got to the point where they were like so scared of cat and drop because of what Kauai was able to do against them and I guess to a lesser extent, matter in that, um, they started resorting to these double teams at the end of, or at the beginning of the third quarter. And I thought it was just absolutely atrocious. And it was like three straight possessions or three out of four possessions. And that's when the lead really ballooned to I think 15 and it was ultimately too high

8:21of a mountain for them to, to scale in trying to come back once they actually really turned their effort up in like the second half of the third quarter. Um, and I just didn't get it, you know, and like, I don't blame towns like I, again, I get it. The Clippers were targeting towns and they were having success when they got at towns in drop. I, I thought towns play, we were going to get to towns in its own, his own section here because I thought he played a brilliant game and not just on offense. Like, I will sign up for, for that town's game on defense, even though he was getting targeted because I thought he did just enough nice things to make up for it. And I thought it was as much on the scheme as anything else. And I just, again, I didn't get it. Um, I thought they were, you know, again, sloppy a little bit of lack of energy on defense throughout the game. And then you got to the fourth quarter and they were down, I think what were they down? Seven points heading into the fourth quarter. If you would have told me before the fourth quarter, all right, we're down seven. How many points is it going to take to win the game? And you would have said, all right, the nicks are going to score 37 points in that quarter.

9:23I would be like, great, we're going to win the game. We could hold the clippers under 30 points for a quarter. And they shot and they hit 38. Now the fourth quarter, like, and this is the, the other part of like, I'm still on the first point, by the way, the other part of the defensive thing that, that made me so frustrated is like, they, they had to, because they were down, they got in scramble mode because they were trying to like force it a little bit on the defensive end. And they weren't, you know, staying as sound. And the clippers got open threes. And literally every open three that the clippers got in the fourth quarter, they hit. I'll look up actually right now what their three point percentage was in the fourth. If it was not over 50%, I would be absolutely floored. It felt like it was about 70% here. The fourth quarter shooting clippers, six of nine, of course, yeah. So just under 70%. And it was just every time the next gotta, I mean, they said it on the broadcast, Mike bring kept saying it every time the next gotta momentum, the clippers had a big shot.

10:27I, I thought the, the brook Lopez deep three was probably the biggest one of them. So it was just the frustrate, it really, really, really, the most frustrating defensive that game that they have had in for me, like almost two months. So that's why I started with the defense, but hot on defenses tail number two on my top five list is the turnovers. So one game after the next committed 19 turnovers and set a season high for turnover percentage. They one up themselves literally one up themselves and committed 20 turnovers in this game. And man, it, it, it offense wasn't the pro, when they actually got shots up, offense wasn't the problem. This shot 51% in this game, you know, we're going to, we can talk about the three point shooting because it was just absolutely got awful for the first two and a half quarters. And again, that contributed to why they got down so much for two and a half quarters. This was a mirror image of the Laker game.

11:28Tons of turnovers, tons of good looks from three. None of them went in, you know, defense was, was mostly passable, but less so. Then against the Lakers and it was just incredibly frustrating. And then the three is actually started to drop the, they, I mean, scored 118 points in the game and to have 20 turnovers and score 118 points, like scoring on this clipper team, it was not an issue for them. And to just be that careless, that's sloppy with the basketball. And I can't blame any one person. I mean, look at, look, just go down the list, OG four turnovers, I'll get the OG in a bit. Pat three, part three, Brunson three, Bridges one might have been more if he had played more. We're going to hit him in a bit. And the one he had was, was bad, the OR with two, Clarkson with one, Shama with two. So there's your, that's 19 and they must have had a team turnover in there somewhere.

12:29So really the worst ball control, the next, it wasn't ball controls the wrong word because ball control, you know, indicates that it's like sloppiness. This wasn't sloppiness. This was poor decision making and it was poor decision making across the board. And what makes it so much worse than yesterday is that Jalen Brunson and Mike Brown, both of them literally stood up there after the game and Jalen, they phrased it in different ways. And Jalen Brunson talked about controlling the controllables. Mike Brown said we did not give ourselves a chance to win the basketball game really at any point. What they were talking about was a little bit of light, they didn't get to the 50, 50 balls, but the turnovers, they were talking about turnovers and to come out there the very next night and do the exact same bullshit, just really, really, really, really frustrating to see that two nights in a row. Maybe I should have put turnovers number one over the defense, but flip a coin, they were easily the top two most frustrating parts of this game for me.

13:31And just a word on OG, look, he finished with a nice stat line, 22 points, 8 to 15 from the field, six rebounds, a couple of steals, a couple of assists, and the four turnovers that I mentioned, I thought he came out of this, out of the start of this game. And the Knicks went down nine nothing early because they're the Knicks, and this is what they do. And I thought that the biggest reason why I was that OG started this game with the mentality of like, I'm going to show my guy, you know, Kauai Leonard is former teammate, the guy that we know he compares himself to. And by the way, he looked like in Denver, not long ago, whatever it was three days ago, four days ago. He's like, I'm going to show my guy that I'm on his level. And I thought he just started out the game, not with a team mindset, and it was more of an individual mindset. And I thought it really hurt them, miss some makeable shots. I thought he gambled a little bit too much on defense.

14:33I actually did not look, I'm not going to blame him for not being able to cover Kauai Leonard one on one. I mean, nobody can do that. But I did not love OG and Adobe's game. I'll just say that. Number three, Macau Bridges. So we'll get to the bench as the next point, but let's stick with Macau for a second. So OG despite my little lament there was, okay, he was fine. It was good. It was 22 points. You know, he did what he had to do. But the beginning of the game aside, Kat, we're going to get to, he has his own point.

17:38It's a good point to be clear, brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I'll save my cat thoughts for a minute from now. Brunson did some nice things. Also some stuff that is going to frustrate people, some stuff to pick at, part did not love his game overall, but at least he brought the energy. Those four guys, like those four collectively, mostly because of towns. If you just add up those four guys, those four guys played well enough to win the basketball game, just doing what they did. If you put their four games together, most of the time, that's going to be enough to give you what you need. The fifth starter is Macau Bridges. And you did not see Macau Bridges on the floor for the last however many minutes of the game because Mike Brown decided to close with a guy who finished this game three of twelve from the floor, missed his first eight shots from the field.

18:40And yet, I don't know that there's a Nick Fan alive who questioned that decision. And that tells you all you need to know about how Macau Bridges was tied. And look, we've had a lot of Macau Bridges discussions. I opted not to have one last night because I said I was going to give him a pass because I probably didn't give him a praise for the Denver game. And for generally how well he has played since the all start break, these are, these are the little stretches that drive people absolutely fucking crazy. And I don't, I don't blame anybody because, you know, 26 minutes, just an invisible seven points on three of eight shooting at seven rebounds, okay, four assists. Look is a little bit of bad luck minus 17 and 26 minutes? Sure. Probably a little bit bad luck in there. It is what it is. And Mike Brown told you what he thought about what it was tonight.

19:42And it's just, I had to make Macau his own, his own, you know, get his own spot on my top five list because if he plays the sort of game that I think the next needed him to play tonight, even with what I'm going to get to on point number four, I think they probably win the basketball game. If he had been a little bit, but, you know, like, and there's these plays that stick out so much, like there was a moment, and it's a moment that like is going to be completely forgettable. But like, they had in the middle of the second quarter, they forced the mist and the ball looked like it was going out of bounds and no Nick touched it. And heart was the, heart was close to there and he had a, they could have made probably made a play for it, but like he wasn't close enough even to do that, but the ball was going out of bounds. So heart was like, I'm just going to let it go out. And then the whistle blows. And it's a phalamic out bridges because he's face guarding Ben Mathering to keep, to,

20:45because he, that's the only way that he could keep Ben Mathering, you know, away from making a play on the ball. And this is not the first time or the second time or the third time or the fifth time or the fucking tenth time that we've seen something like this from a cow bridges, where like, the only, the only option he has in his mind is the face guard, look, dude, to say Jalen Durin here, man, it's Ben Mathering. I know he's a strong guy for six, five, but he's, what, he's six, five, like put your ass into it, like, like box out the proper way, as opposed to trying to do it the, the, the, the, the other way and, and then get called for a foul. And guess what happened after that, the, the, the, the flippers got another bite at the apple and it was a three point play, you know? And it's like, it's stuff like that that you see too often. And I know, I know his defenders will say, Macry, you point out the little things like that that don't go well, why don't you point out all the little things that he does that do go well? He, we know it. We know he does a lot of little things that help the team.

21:46I, I get it. I get it. I get it. I get it. I get it. I'm just going to repeat the same shit I've repeated about him many times. I need a little bit more. And if you're going to give me shit for demanding a little bit more from the guy that is supposed to be part of this main infrastructure, well, I don't know what to tell you. I would like a little bit more from a cow bridges. He'll sue me. Number four, the bench, the bench, you know, you know who I thought about a lot tonight? Guy who, I don't even know if he was in a arena, I'm assuming he was there. Do some pride. I cannot tell you how many times watching this game tonight, I thought about do some pride. And how much I missed do some pride and how much, you know, I was thinking of myself. Well, no Mitch tonight, I thought that part, I mean, look, Huck Bordey, again, God love him. He tries. Defends well enough. When I think it was D.O.R., I tried to shovel that pass, download him, when the next

22:47reaction making their run, latent third quarter and Huck Bordey just didn't have the instinct to move to the rim and Breene set up on the broadcast. He's like, well, that's on the passer, you know, but as Breene was saying it, you could tell, he's like, yeah, it's technically on the passer, but he, we knew what Breene was thinking. He's just such a zero on offense. How did I get to talking about aerial Huck Bordey? Oh, because it was part of the bench. Didn't have Mitch Robinson tonight. Didn't have to do some pride and it made me think of like, not that long ago, we thought of the Knicks as like a seven man team. And once you got past the top seven, it got a little bit dicey and a little gamey. And then that started to change when Shama came back and Shama started playing great and look, Shama had an awful night tonight shooting wise again, missed his first eight shots from the field, but he's, he's given them a lot tonight, he didn't had it. And it speaks a lot that on a night when Landry Shama didn't have it, it's like the Knicks didn't stand a freaking chance because I'm sorry, sorry, I'm, I'm, I'm Mo Dior, a great

23:50second half from Mo Dior, let me, I should not, I should not gloss over that rough first half, rough first half, great second half, the dunk, awesome, the three point, three point or big one will met them, I thought his energy was huge. If, if, if Brown wanted to put him in late instead of Shama, I wouldn't have objected to that. So good stuff from Mo Dior, but again, we're talking about relying on Mo Dior, he played 18 minutes tonight, like you're not going to play Mo Dior on much more than 18 minutes. A poor day I talked about, trash Shama for, or Clarkson for three minutes, I didn't go so well. Shama, it nothing, track Colock out. And the reason he track Colock out for two minutes was because Jose Alvarado was that bad. And I said, after the late game yesterday, it's probably time we have to have a Jose Alvarado discussion. Well, that, that, that, that, that time is here now because he is now, he has not hit a three pointer in six games, over two tonight, over four from the field, he's going through

24:54it right now. I'm not going to, I'm not going to bury him. I think he's going to rebound from this. I think he's going through it right now. I think there's, I don't know what's going on with him, but this is probably the worst stretch of shooting he's had as a pro. It's just really hurting them right now. And tonight, between him, between Shama struggles, you're really felt it from the bench for as good as Dior was. I mean, look, at the end of the day, five for 20, that's what the bench went. Five for 20 on the night. That's not good enough. So that's my fourth thing. Really hurt them in the first half, really hurt them in the first half. And then the fifth reason this loss sucked and was really frustrating is it really wasted a brilliant, brilliant offensive basketball game from Carlisle to many times. And I ended with this one because yes, it's a reason to be frustrated and angry at the result of the game, but it is also the one silver lining that you can have. Look, I get it going against the likes of Brooke Lopez and Isaiah Jackson on a team that

25:59doesn't really have your big wing to slot on him. It's not a team that is going to switch everything. It's a, you know, it is a good matchup, but 35 points on 17 shots, 13 to 17 from the field. Hit his first three threes just missed his last one kind of desperation time at the end to go with a dozen boards and seven assists, you know, that's a big time game. That's a big time game from Carlisle to many times. And silver lining, he's been playing great. I've said on a few post games here, I just, there's like a little bit more that I want. I want them to just feature him a little bit more. And the fact that he was able to score 35. So nine, nine points on three corners, but the rest either on two point field goals. So 26 points on two point field goals or free throws if my math is correct. Yes, my math is correct.

27:01None of it. Well, I don't think maybe one or two possessions. It was just him loading up at the top of the key and just and driving after like holding the ball for a while. When he did drive, it was after a quick decision, but a lot of the opportunities he got either shots or free throws came when he was already moving, which is what we've been kind of talking about. What are some ways you can get Carlisle into any of the downs easy shots so that it's not all threes, you know, post ups with people, people want them to do more and then just drive from the top of the key. And I think they're finding more creative ways to get him good shots. And then the other part of it is he's just, he's in shots and he wasn't necessarily in shots earlier in the year, but more comfortable in the offense, more used the defending in the way that they need him to defend, which he's been doing for a while. And so just can't say enough about Karan at any times and the effort and the and on a bad knee tonight.

28:01I mean, he was injured the knee and kept going truly can't say enough about his effort. I kind of glossed over Brunson. Look, I think Brunson played a nice game. It's probably going to get one of my stars somewhere nice to see him in some shots. So I need to defend it hard. There is still there are still the moments where you could see him calculating, okay, is this where I go one on one? Is this where I pass out of it early? And there were a look that we call it call like it is. There were a couple of turnovers there that weren't pretty. I remained very, very encouraged by where he is, where he will end up by the end of the year heading into the playoffs. But I could see some people looking at some of the possessions and being frustrated. But look, you look at the plus minus numbers and I do not think this was a misnomer at

29:04all. And Brunson was a plus one in 38 minutes. The real shame of this weekend in LA was when you look at it in totality. If he doesn't play the 42 minutes last night and I get it, Brown was trying to stay in the game, keeping Brunson in the game beginning of the fourth quarter, I get it. If he doesn't do that yesterday, and I'm not blaming Brown for this, but just stating a fact, if Brown doesn't do that yesterday, probably would have brought Brunson in earlier in the fourth quarter. And they really, I thought, could have used him early in the fourth just to, there were some, you know, a couple of shaky possessions. So, you know, it is what it is, but just a really frustrating couple of days, really frustrating couple of days for a team that had really, I think, gotten everybody fully back on board. I'm not changing my stance on the team. I was incredibly high on the team after the Denver game. I'm still very high in them now. I think it was just a bad couple of games, it was a frustrating couple of games, it was an annoying couple of games, all the typical shit.

30:06I don't view these games as like, oh, here come the bad next again, here come the Mr. Hyde, you know, out of the shadows. I don't see these games like that. Obviously I'm frustrated by the loss, annoyed by it, but I think they're going to be fine. I think it'll be the right medicine to now play some teams that are not necessarily trying to win basketball games. And again, they showed that they could, and by the way, when they were putting forth full effort, like, this was a great ball game for a quarter and a half, you know, and the Clippers just hit every fucking shot, which was again, the thing that I will, the thing that I will leave this weekend other than the turnovers with is just all of the shot, like every big shot that either L.A. team needed to hit when they needed to hit it, they had to.
