Kirsten Dunst Joins Minecraft Sequel as Alex

The 43-year-old actress will play Alex, a character teased at the end of the first film. She shared the exciting news on Instagram back on March 19th. Earlier this year, Dunst told Town and Country magazine she hoped to join the cast. Her kids are huge fans of the original, and she wanted to be part of another big hit. The first movie came out in theaters in April 2025 and pulled in nearly $1 billion at the box office. Fans are thrilled with the casting switch. In the original, Saturday Night Live star K. McKinnon voiced Alex. Most of the first film's cast returns too, including Jason Momoa, Jack Black, and Daniel Brooks. Dunst's recent project, Roof Man, didn't do as well financially. It starred Channing Tatum and focused on a prison escape story with a detailed replica. Toys are a store set. A lot of the budget went into that build.
