Kingston Council Invests £2.9M in Fire Safety Upgrades

0:00On March 20th, Kingston Council in South London is boosting its fire safety efforts with an extra 2.9 million pounds set aside to wrap up. High priority works. Out of more than 4,100 actions identified, 935 remain, and officials aim to finish them all next year. To speed things up, the council approved a new 12-month contract with construction firm Quinn London on Thursday, March 19th. The deal has a maximum value of 2.2 million pounds, covering Quinn's portion of the remaining tasks within the overall budget. These upgrades stem from nationwide changes after the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, when the council surveyed its entire housing stock. That revealed needs like replacing fire doors, adding alarms, fixing buildings, and improving emergency lighting.
