Kingstanding's Patriotic Push: Flags & Statue Petition

0:00On April 25th, a group called Raised the Colors, King Standing put up flags across a traffic island in their Birmingham neighborhood to spark some. Patriotic Pride. They're part of a bigger nationwide push to blanket Britain and flags, all about unity and volunteering in every town. At the same time, they've launched a petition for a statue of King Charles I right there in King Standing. The spot's name comes from a legend tied to the English Civil War back in 1642, when the King supposedly stood overlooking the area. Locals say it honors that history and builds community pride, but there's no marker yet. The petition, started by Sean Keatley, argues a statue would educate folks and celebrate the area's roots. As of Friday, April 24th, it's got 319 signatures, showing real grassroots energy from residents wanting to claim there. The city council stepping in quick, removing those flags from street lamps and signs, since attaching stuff to public gear isn't allowed.

1:02They prioritize spots with safety risks or big local gripes. They do fly the Union flag daily at the council house and get the pride angle, even nodding to St. George's flag too. Folks can still hang flags at home, and the council sees Brummies as proudly British and a multicultural vibe that keeps everyone welcome.
