King Charles & Beckham's Garden Project

0:00On April 3rd, King Charles and David Beckham connected over their shared love for gardening and beekeeping at Hygrove, the King's country estate in Gloucestershire. Last week, the 77-year-old monarch hosted the former soccer star, along with Royal Horticultural Society Ambassador Alan Titchmarsh and Garden Designer Francis Tophill. They put final touches on the curious garden for the Chelsea flower show, aiming to spark public interest in nature and horticulture. The group decided to add a beehive to the design, drawing from both the King and Beckham's passion for honey production. Other features include seven raised beds honoring Beckham's famous Jersey number, Special Rose's name for the King, Beckham and Titchmarsh, plus Anne, easel-cracked by a graduate from the King's Foundation furniture school. Everyone involved seems pumped about inspiring young people to pursue careers in gardening. Beckham, now 50 and a countryside enthusiast despite his city roots, wants kids to get outside and dig in.

1:01Titchmarsh echoed that, saying Curiosity kickstarts any gardening path, just like his own. This project ties into the King's Foundation and the RHS efforts to promote green spaces and training programs. Trainees from Hygrove and RHS Weisley Gardens are helping build it on site at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Francis Tophill drew inspirations straight from Hygrove for her first Chelsea design. The finished, curious garden debuts at the flower show along the River Thames, this May, hoping to hook a new generation on the outdoors and sustainable skills.
