The New York Mads are shaking up their bullpen this spring, and one of the big names is veteran closer, Craig Kimbrill. The 37-year-old right-hander, who turns 38 in May, ranks among the all-time leaders with hundreds of career saves. He's vying for a spot after the team lost Edwin Diaz and brought in Devon Williams. Kimbrill had a tough year last season, getting released twice before landing with Houston. He made his great-fruit league debut on Saturday against Washington, pitching one inning in a three-to-two loss. He allowed one run and two walks, but showed promise with better fastball velocity. Manager Carlos Mendoza liked what he saw on Kimbrill's stuff. The reliever said his body feels strong, and he's adding a cutter to mix things up and set up his off-speed pitches. Kimbrill was happy just to compete and build toward peak form. The Mets value his experience in camp, but he'll need to prove he can still dominate to stick around.
