She got fired up after seeing inmates step up to fight the massive Los Angeles wildfires in 2025. Those prisoners took on dangerous tasks but earned next to nothing for it. Right now, many only make sense per hour, even for essential and risky jobs. That low pay deepens inequality and leaves people struggling to rebuild their lives once they're out.
