Kenya Floods: 62 Dead, Thousands Displaced

Rivers burst their banks, damaging homes, roads, power lines, and water supplies in a way not seen in years. More than half the deaths, 33, happened in Nairobi due to poor drainage and blocked rivers from unchecked building. Over 2,000 residents in low-lying areas have fled their homes for safer spots. President William Ruto announced emergency food, medical aid, and efforts to clear blocked drains. Officials warn heavy rains continue, urging people to hire ground as search and rescue operations go on. The crisis extends beyond Kenya, with over 100 deaths from floods and landslides in neighboring Ethiopia. Experts no climate change makes such intense downpours more common.
