Sydney's story is making news on March 6th. Floods are hitting hard in Catherine, a town in Australia's Northern Territory as the Catherine River surges past major flood levels. The Bureau of Meteorology says this could be one of the wedded seasons on record, with River Heights already at 18.5 meters at the workers. Bridge this morning. Despite warnings that the town center would stay dry, the main street is now underwater. At Nidmala Gorge, flooding has topped the levels from April 2006 when the river peaked at 19 meters. Authorities have evacuated Catherine Hospital, airlifting 21 patients and up to 20 pregnant women to Darwin. The steward highway is cut off, and emergency shelters are open for those in need. Meanwhile, six aircraft are evacuating the remote community of Palompa. Plans are set to move residents from daily river today after they only recently returned from earlier floods. Flooding has eased in Besswick overnight. A tropical low called 31U is hovering over the top end, bringing more heavy rain expected
through the weekend. Officials say there's a low chance it turns into a cyclone, but River Rises will keep coming as it tracks near Catherine and beyond.
