Judging

is titled Judging. In this devotional, Pastor Holler will explore a kind of judgment that

goes beyond daily choices, how we judge others.

Matthew chapter 7 verses 1 and 2. Judge not that ye be not judged. For with what judgment

ye judge, ye shall be judged, and with what measure ye meet, ye shall be measured

to you again. Every day we make decisions or judgments, we decide what to wear or what

to eat. We decide how and what we will do for the day. These are not the judgments addressed

in our text verses. Our text verses are considering how we judge other people to judge in this

verse is very negative. It carries the meaning of condemning, punishing, or issuing a decree.

This is not a judgment of civil disobedience which is to be judged by men. Neither is it

a judgment of one who is in sin against God's Word, where that does need correction.

The passage is addressing the judgment of someone's motives. No man is qualified to make

any such judgment on another. The judgment of motives is to be left with God for he alone

knows the hearts and the intents of men. Every day we interact with people and we make

judgments. With some people we find it easy to get along with, but with some people they're

more challenging for us to get along with. This judgment is complicated by the truth that

we all tend to think that we are right all the time. Proverbs 16-2, all the ways of a man

are clean in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits. So it is our reference point is

faulty. We think that we are right and others are wrong. We minimize our faults and magnify

the faults of others. That thinking leads to an unfair judgment of another person. Jesus

addressed this issue. His message was simple and straightforward. Here we have a sober warning

about judging other people. And herein we must heed these words of Jesus. Note Matthew 7-1,

judge not that ye be not judged. If we judge others then we will be judged by others. In other

words if we will not restrain ourselves in judging others then we cannot expect others to restrain

their judgment of us. Further we can expect the same standards that we used to judge others

to be used against us. Matthew 7-2, for with what judgment ye judge ye shall be judged and with

what measure ye meet it shall be measured to you again. When we judge others we are setting the

conditions and standards wherewith we will be judged. Matthew 7-2, for with what judgment ye judge

ye shall be judged. And with what measure ye meet it shall be measured to you again.

Jesus started this teaching on judging by giving a conclusion. Note again 7 verse 1, judge not

that ye be not judged. If you do not want to be judged by others then you must start with

yourself. Do not judge others then you will not be judged. Think about the wisdom of Jesus' words

concerning judging. He starts with every man and he teaches that every man must begin with himself.

Judge not that ye be not judged. And let us not forget that one day God will judge us.

What a better place this world would be if every man would judge not. You've just heard Pastor

standards we used to judge others will be used on us. Instead of pointing out the faults of others

let's remember to first examine our own hearts to see if there's anything we need to change in
