Let's get into the mix.

Here are your Washington headlines.

The day number one, Johnson's Gigantic Fiesaflop.

Number two, Republicans can't stop fighting

with Republicans and number three,

shirtless McCormick puts the CBC in a bind.

Let's get into it.

Goodness gracious.

If you are listening to this podcast,

you are not going to be surprised what you will hear this morning.

But let's catch you up on what happened last night.

Mike Johnson tried to pass a five-year extension of Fiesaflop last night,

and he said,

Republican leaders posted a compromise Fiesaflop,

and met just before 11pm,

that would have strengthened criminal penalties for misuse of the program,

include some warrant language that Democrats say merely

codifies existing law and enhanced congressional access

to the Fiesaflop.

A group of Republicans,

and I don't know,

130 in the morning,

and it failed spectacularly.

The Republican leaders posted a compromise Fiesaflop,

and met just before 11pm,

that would have strengthened criminal penalties for misuse of the program,

a group of Republicans rejected Johnson's compromise,

voting it down by a 200 to 220 margin.

This was a big group of Republicans have voted against it,

including Brian Fitzpatrick, Andy Harris,

Darren LeHood, Tom Massey, Marionette Miller, Meek, Sack Nun,

Andy Ogles Scott Perry, John Rose, Keith Self, Mike Turner,

and Jeff Andrew.

Now you could explain,

here's how I would explain it,

at least Andy Harris, Andy Ogles Scott Perry,

Keith Self are all Freedom Caucus folks, Fitzpatrick,

and LeHood are on Intel.

Tom Massey votes no against everything,

so I don't know what he had,

a specific issue about this,

but he's no one,

a lot of these privacy related things,

Marionette Miller, Meeks, and Zack Nunn, both Iowa.

I don't know what was going on there.

Mike Turner are also former chair of Intel,

who has no,

I don't know what he was thinking,

but he has no reason to help Johnson,

and anything after Johnson booted him from the committee.

Then, after that,

Republicans voted down her rule to consider

an 18 month FISA extension,

which was what Donald Trump wanted.

20 Republicans voted no,

which is a remarkable rejection.

And then finally, around two o'clock in the morning,

the House did get unanimous consent

for a two week extension of FISA authorities.

Okay, I have a couple points I'd like to make here.

Number one,

the majority of the House of Representatives

is for warrant requirements on FISA.

Real warrant requirements.

Now, I understand the administration is not for it.

I get that.

I understand the FBI,

the CIA,

and the entire intelligence community

doesn't want warrant requirements.

That is clear to me,

and I completely get it.

But that's where the majority of the House of Representatives is.

And there's not going to be any slight of hand

that is going to satisfy people

and maybe the Senate's not for it either,

but the way government works,

the way legislating works,

is if the majority,

the House is a majoritarian institution.

If a majority of the people want something,

it's going to be hard to BS them to not want it.

That's just the way it works.

It thinks legislating is really hard,

especially on a hard issue like FISA.

And on a hard issue like FISA,

you're not going to be able to leave it for the last week

and try to ignore all of the things

that you know are true and pass a bill.

That's why the 18 month clean extension

was not going to happen.

That's why a FISA shell game

was not going to work.

I'm sorry.

That's just the way it is.

Now, so they get a two week extension to lapel 30th.

What's that going to do?

I don't know what it's going to do.

It's not going to do that much

because they're going to be in the same position again.

And the real way out of this

is either to pass warrants

like the freedom caucus wants

or to go to Democrats

for some compromise warrant language,

Jim Himes,

and Jamie Raskin

have something on that.

That's the way out of this

because you're not going to be able

to get some kind of nonsense proposal through.

It's too tough of an issue.

It's too tough of an issue.

They were last night.

This was like,

this shows how contentious,

let's say, of an issue this is.

They were modifying the bill by hand

on the floor.

I mean, so anyway,

this means they're going to spend

the rest of the month on Pfizer.

That's just what it means.

It's April 17th.

They're going to spend until May on Pfizer.

So that's where we are.

When we get back from the break,

a larger point to make

Republicans can't stop fighting

with Republicans.

Republicans just can't stop fighting with Republicans

on every issue in front of Congress.

Republicans are locked

in a circular firing squad.

House and Senate Republicans

aren't just on different wavelengths.

They're living in different universes.

DHS shut down,

reconciliation, ice,

border patrol,

funding, housing bill,

Pfizer,

Save America,

Act, filibuster,

Appropes, and more.

It's just across the board.

I mean, that they are just on

completely different wavelengths,

completely different planets.

Most acutely came a couple weeks ago

when the Senate passed a DHS bill,

Johnson rejected it.

Johnson a couple days later said he's for it.

This is only going to get more complicated, I would say,

because they're trying to do a reconciliation bill once again.

And the leadership wants to keep it narrow.

In the House, I have to guess that my Johnson's going to have to

at least placate Republicans

and say they should go bigger.

So this is going to be a big issue going forward.

And it's kind of the undercurrent

of this in the in the mood music.

I'll use that phrase again of this Congress.

Number three, storing this morning.

The CBC isn't a bind.

The House is likely, I would say, to expel

or to try to expel Sheila,

shirtless McCormick,

who is under criminal indictment for allegedly stealing millions of

dollars of FEMA money

and funneling some of that money into her campaign,

a special subcommittee to health to ethics committee found the Florida

Democrat guilty of 26 ethics violations.

The full ethics committee will meet on April 21st to consider

what punishment to meet out.

Expulsion is a real possibility,

although two-thirds of the House would have to voter out.

Jeffries, I came Jeffries is staying tight-lipped,

but the CBC is not rushing to defend her.

I mean, they're really not.

And that is incredibly important.

And you have some folks, Greg Meeks,

a three-decade veteran of Congress,

said he is very unlikely to back any expulsion resolution

before a judicial trial,

but there is a deep divide in the CBC about how to handle this.
