John Hynes previews Wild vs Canucks

0:00You're listening to the official Minnesota wild pond cast presented by Acresher. Just a couple really good practice days for you. I mean, how much do you feel like you've accomplished this week? Going to, we think I think we want to get some rest but also work and try and reinforce and stuff. Yeah, you know, it was really good because we did have the two days we could give them for the rest part. And then, I think they were excited to come back to the rank and you know, pretty focused on what we needed to do. We had a lot of stuff on some areas and you know, did some, I think some drills and some games and things that, you know, I think a lot of pock touches, execution, some competitive stuff, some details we wanted to sharpen up. So I thought it was good that you could have the combination of both that you could kind of push them a little bit in practice because we had the two days. But I feel like we're, you know, we accomplished a lot and now it's back in the game mode. Last year, I'm sure looking back, it's fun. Game 82, X scoring that goal. I mean, huge point in your season. But to have a chance to wrap up a playoffs spot by winning the game tonight, having some time before the playoffs start for you as a coach, how does that help?

1:07Yeah, certainly nice. I mean, last year's playoff run was, you know, I'd rather be in the situation we're in right now than what it was last year. But it's good. You know, I'm anticipating that, you know, we're going to come out after the last couple days and, you know, get to the game that gives us a chance to win. And that's come out and have a real solid, solid effort, you know, back to the identity that, you know, gives us, has made us a very good team all year long. And let's get consistent in that and keep moving along here. Well, it's going to be made about Quinn facing his former team for the first time. The first time you've had the game plan on how to slow down Marco Rossi and his, you know, just how strange is that for you? Yeah, it's a little strange. You know, I would say on one side of it, though, you know, on Quinn, I think it's always, having an experience that even as a coach, it always is a little different plan against the team that you just came from. Yeah. So it'll probably be a fun night for him and an interesting night, you know, as far as, as far as Marco and Liam and, and Z, I mean, I'm happy for those guys. I think they've gone in, you know, they're in a situation where they're getting some ice time. And I think they're all playing pretty well and are, I think, a big part of their team now, but also a big part of the team moving forward.

2:11So I'm happy that they've, they've, they've moved on to a different situation, but that situation isn't great for them as well. Would you see from them, yes, sir? What do you see from them yesterday? You know, obviously a impressive winning Colorado and it responds to all of the sudden things got carried. Yeah, you know what? I mean, I, it always goes back to, I think, you know, regardless of where anyone is at and standings. I think on any given night in this league, anyone can beat anyone. And, I mean, they played hard, they played well, they scored, like you said, when they tied the game and then they pushed back and, and we're able to get it done. So I'm sure they're coming in here on a high and probably we're looking at these two games that they've got to want to be at their competitive best and they got it done last night. And I'm sure they're going to, they have the same mindset to try to build off that game against us. John, as you've come to, you know, those three players who do work with this sort of younger bad score playing goals, smaller roles for your team. Do you notice any growth in their game in the sort of larger opportunities they have? Yeah, I have. I mean, I, you know, what I think some of it is, you know, Marco, I'd say what was obviously the most experienced and, you know, for him, you played, you know, basically top line center for us, top, top two line center.

3:16And, you know, I had a feeling that Marco were, regardless of where he plays was going to be an effective player because he's quick and smart and competitive. And, you know, I think his attention to details really strong. I think he's just, you know, even being injured as long as he has. I think he looks like he's fit in and adjusted really well there. Z, I think is the, you know, the more time he's been in the league, he looks, I think stronger and more confident. His decisions are such a good offensive player. I think that you can see there's a growing confidence level in him that he can use those abilities, but I think that the timing of when he uses him has, has been pretty good. I think from a defensive standpoint, he looks, I think stronger and more confident in the league going against facing, you know, the size and the speed that you do regularly. And I'd say with Ogi, he's, you know, he's kind of, I think found a little bit of a niche there. He's, he's quick, you know, he's plays well. He's getting some scoring opportunities, some scoring some goals. I think he's, you know, even for us, I saw growth before he was leaving. I think his complete game is better. Like he was always a quick, fast and anxious player.

4:19I think you still see that, but I'd say even off the pocket looks like his details and lead looks comfortable. I would say the two younger guys, they both just look more, you know, comfortable, but that's what happens when you get more and more time in the league. With Quenz, you're here. There's been, you know, talk online, just to the abilities and what he knows. Are there other things just big? To this team that maybe, you know, Quenz are very, you know, I know he's not like a, he's a highly intelligent kid. And I think that he's, you know, he's got a, like I think behind the scenes and conversations. There's a lot of substance to what he says. So I think as a leader on a team, you know, as a former captain, I think when he does have things to say within the room to the guys, I think it's thoughtful and on point and direct. You know, in communications with him as a coach, I think that he's a little bit, I said it numerous times, like kind of like a hockey savantly. He knows all the players in the league, tendencies of guys, you know, he's really tuned in with all that.

5:25So I think from that standpoint, he's brought some of that, some of those leadership skills and, and just his mind for the game. And then the other part to me is I just, he's just, he practiced and how he plays. He's competitive. He plays with pace. He likes to drive play. Those things to me are all other elements. I say on the performance side that he's brought. Spurgeon back in. Spurgeon's good, yes. And you've been switching the version to see a little bit. What's the plan there tonight? Bogo will be back in. So we'll go with Spurgeon, Brody and be back together, Hughes and Faber and Middleton and Bogosian. Nick Fulino will take a night off tonight. You're off. We'll go back in.
