This came on March 6th, just one day after he asked for his release. The 29-year-old is now free to sign with any team right away. The move saves the Texans $8 million against their 2026 salary cap. Mixon missed the entire 2025 season due to a freak-foot injury from last offseason. His general manager, Nick Casario, called it a medical issue that did not heal as hoped. It was not from any risky activity he added. In his first year with Houston, after a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024, Mixon had a strong season.
