Jets tried to trade for Tanner McKee

0:00and bam, bam, bam. Welcome back. Good day, show. Hugh Douglas showed Julia a lot to get you here. One o'clock daily mock. As you know, the NFL draft is one month from today. One whole month. Yeah. Four weeks from Thursday, if we're going by the weeks, but you know, on the same date, it is April 23rd, the first round the NFL draft. And today is March 23rd. So we'll do the daily mock at one o'clock, as we always do. And some tough looks over the weekend, including some archbannis. We'll get to later on. But right now, before we go back to the phone lines on the fills, the clean slate, the AJ situation. And you get to participate in the bracket of Hugh's here. We'll throw a match up at your way in the radio guy region as we crown or move teams on to the sweet 16. It's a big day here today and tomorrow on the midday show. Here we got to dive into a couple of Eagles trades. One that is in the books and done. And one that I think is on the way here. So the Eagles on Friday, right? A little bit after we got off to here. We haven't had a chance to discuss this. The Eagles traded Sidney Brown to the Atlanta Falcons.

1:04So the Falcons are going to send the number 114, and number 197 picks in the draft in exchange for Brown. Number 122, and number 215. If you kind of add the draft picks up and you kind of look at the value of that, it's basically like the Eagles got a fifth round pick for Sidney Brown. That's kind of the value of the picks when you add them up. Here's your thought on trading Sidney for the equivalent of a five. How are we trying to make, I feel like this team is definitely going to get younger defensively. They're going to try to keep that trend running where it's probably going to be some defenders out there that is going to be a question mark by the day and how they're going to fit into this defense. That's the first thing I thought about him for him. He gets a shot to go down there and play. I don't know what the safety position is down there, maybe it's more special teams or something, but he gets a shot to play. So you as usual are a little nicer than I'm going to be. I mean, Sidney Stonk, who he just be honest, I mean, he was a good special teamer, but he just, he couldn't play on the, on the regular defense. His instincts weren't good for the position that he was playing.

2:05Yeah, and I think Vic Fangio lost total trust in him. And when they, when they had injuries at safety this year, and they had to try to play. And then eventually they went to Marcus Epps, who was just off the street and then they brought back Epps this weekend. So, but that safety room here, not that, not that I thought Sidney Brown was the guy, because I just, I don't think it was ever going to work. It's a little, a little thin, a little thin. A lot of thin. It's, it's about as thin as it gets. What is our safety room right now? So it's Andrew McCuba. McCuba. Who'd they sign? They brought Epps back. And who's the other guy they brought in? What's his name? J.T. Gray. J.T. Gray. Special teamer. Okay. So we got special teamers and Andrew McCuba. Yeah, it's going to be, it's going to be an opportunity that they're on their back here. I wonder how high they draft a safety, because that is now, it's a hugely, they just don't have anything there, but they just draft in McCuba last year in the second round. Are they going to spend day one or two picks on safety's two days in a row? That's probably, because it's, it's like most of the, I would say most of the drafts, most of the mock drafts I should say that I've seen

3:06had the Eagles taking an offensive player. For the most part, the most of the ones that I've seen had them taking an offensive player. So I would think you had a day two, day two or possibly moving up, trying to get somebody. I guess now it all depends on how this AJ Brown thing shakes out, because again, if he leaves, you're going to need to, to replenish that receiver room, you're going to need to replenish the, the second day, well, the, the safety room. Yeah. So yeah, I think in the first couple of picks, you're going to, you're going to be looking to, to get a safety and probably receive it. I don't know. Doesn't feel like they value safety that much. It doesn't. I mean, they didn't even seemingly make an offer to keep flip like a chip. Who didn't get that much money anyway from Houston? It feels like something they feel like that can just scrap together. I wonder if you, if, if you got three good corners, and you got a good pass rush, I can see, fly back to, I mean, yeah, I can see, I can see you, you, you're doing that. But boy, better hope nobody gets behind those corners. Or nobody gets hurt. Yeah, that's my concern.

4:07Like if you tell me McCuba takes a leap and they just have to find one serviceable safety, I think you could do that. But McCuba got hurt last year and he's small. I mean, that was everyone's take on him when he came out of the draft. That kind of looks like a slot corner, not a real safety. I think any bodies, not necessarily one big name back there. Yeah, it also could be one of those things where how he trades for safety in the summer. Right? This feels to me like one of those positions we talk about all the way up to the season like, is this really what they're going with? Is it going with McCuba and some guy, or maybe it's just Epps again, who seems like he's just, they trust him, he's plug and play, he just put him in and he's gonna do okay. Stop gap guy. That's not gap. Until you get, until you get to, yeah, but you're back with him. I mean, he doesn't do anything. So like, I feel like that's, I guess all they care to ask for from those guys, just sit back there all the way deep in the field and don't do anything bad. McCuba and Epps though would be a pretty, get light, it's light. It's got to be one of the lightest, it's among contenders, perceived contenders in the NFL. So Sydney Brown gone to the Atlanta Falcons. We'll see if he could have a different life through a second activist career. But Hugh, that's a trade that is done.

5:07Now a trade that could be coming soon. So when the Eagles traded for any Dalton last week, I thought it was a signal, the Tanner McKee's out of here. So we'll see now where that goes. But Courtney Jimmy Kemsky, and he was listening to Rich Samini, I guess Rich Samini wrote this in, oh no, he said it in his Jets podcast. So Rich Samini's been covering the Jets for a long time. I think was he covering them when you were there? Rich Samini? He's been in a long time. He's one of those guys, when he says he's been around that team for a million years, right? So he said that the Eagles and, or the Jets were looking at a trade for a quarterback before they got Geno. And when, before they got Geno, it was a second round pick. That was the price the Eagles were putting on Tanner McKee. And I would say at that point, the Jets pivoted to Geno Smith. Now, I don't know if the Jets are definitely out of this, could it is Geno definitely their guy? I don't know if they want another quarterback. But the thought though that the Eagles were asking when the Jets were looking for a quarterback for a second round pick for Tanner McKee, hear your thought on that ask. I thought they should have took that, especially when you talk about the rehab.

6:09Like, I do know that people in New York and I have it at Geno's coming back. Oh, you're saying the Jets should have done that? They should have took, they should have took Tanner for that because I think that's a steal for what could Tanner could potentially be. I do. You think that I want it, you know, I want it for Tanner. I want it for first round draft pick. You wanted the ninth overall pick for him. Yeah, I want the ninth overall pick for him. So I think it is funny that the Jets, the Jets didn't take a second round draft pick for a quarterback that looks like he has a tremendous upside. Well, I mean, the Jets are dead. I mean, there's a way. And I know that when you talk about potentially what they need, they need offensive line. They definitely need offensive line. The defense is starting to get a little longer to, they traded away what Quinn and Williams. So the defense, to me, the defense was the strong suit of the Jets that a few years ago doesn't feel like that's the case now. It feels like the Jets are going backwards a little bit. Yeah. You know, when you talk about bringing your seat up as possible for them to go back. I think they are trying to tank for the March for Arch. I think they want to be worse seem to leak.

7:11All right, should how we lower the price then as we get closer to the draft? I don't think we're getting a second round pick for Tanner McKee. He's got, he's been the last year of his deal. That's a hefty price. Probably what they're waiting on to see if they can, they can move them because it doesn't, you know, Eagles felt like, but the moves they made that, they kind of hamstring themselves. Hamstring themselves a little bit by making the move as a breath as they did. So maybe they're just trying to weight it out. But when you, by weighting out, you give somebody else an opportunity to come in and try to get Tanner. I would take a three for Tanner. If we can get a three, I'm making the deal right now. Well, third round pick. Um, no, right now? Right now. Why? Because you can go into training camp and somebody's couping and get hurt. Yeah, and you can get him, getting man. Right, sure. But what, what is a team offering? Like, what, what do we, what do we think we're getting for Tanner McKee? A, a mid-second? A mid-second. Yeah. He's played two games in the league. Dude, we got a first for Sam Bradford when, when Teddy Bridgewater blew up. Right, but Sam Bradford was the number and overall pack. I know I was a rookie this year, but he's stung. I, I, I get it. But he at least had a track record of like, he's a starting quarterback in the league.

8:11Well, maybe, maybe somebody thinks Tanner does. Well, that's, I mean, maybe, maybe they do. I, I just, if we can get it, it's for me. It's us for times, Joe. Call for times for times. Yeah. So, so hold on. So people try to tell me the AJ thing will take into some where if there's an injury and at the Tanner thing, we're just gonna sit there where all these players hold it on. Hold it on. Hold it on. Hold it on. Well, Tanner's a much different situation than AJ. I gotta be disruptive. I understand that. Tanner's completely different. I'm just saying if there's no downside even holding on to Tanner this year. Well, the downside is he walks away after the season. Like the deal. Well, but wait, the only win, so they took Tanner more at the sixth round a few years ago. Yeah. If you tell me Tanner McKee's here for three years and you turn a sixth round pick into a third round pick, that's good business to me. Sure. Cause I, do you think they're signing him after the season? I don't think they're gonna spend real money on a backup like that. But it's not the worst thing in the world to wait. See if you can even get like the best possible value and then, you know what? I mean, crap, Tanner has to walk away next year because, because nobody's could be got hurt. That stinks. Well, and that might happen. I mean, it could, it could play out that way. They don't have to trade him. He's better than any Dalton. It would give us a better backup.

9:11I just think this is the time to trade him. And the second feels a little hefty. That, how has been setting high prices this off season? Now we'll see. Good thing he's been a little too lofty. Not too lofty. It feels a little, I mean, all these guys are still here. Now, maybe, turns the draft, he lowers the price and we get a third. I mean, if we get a third round pick for Tanner and an early third round pick, that's how it ends up. Okay. I think that's a good deal. Again, he's not played much. I think we've seen him in the, in the pre-season so we have a feeling on him. I mean, he over here was called in the future to you. The future. Yeah. You should have got the ninth pick for him. Well, you know, way in the world. You could have got the ninth pick. I can still hope for it. I, you know, what do you think the Saints would have said if it's out? Ha, ha, ha, ha. They were, they weren't a hunt for the playoffs. 10 McKee's, that name is good. He shot Tyler. He's better than McKee. They were in a half a playoff there. They got 10 McKee. That's, that's my story. I'm going to, I'm going to kind of remember how badly they performed over the last four years. I think it's understandable, Dennis. I get it. It's like one of those things where it's, if it's a tight moment, you're going to wonder, are they finally going to come through or is there going to be similar to the last few October? I get it. Exactly. There's this Tanner McKee. I say, I say you hold on to them because quarterbacks get hurt during the year too, right? Yes. Taylor. I mean, you're, you know, Jalen could get hurt or another quarterback from another team could get hurt. And then all of a sudden, you're in a position where they really need them.

12:20So I think you just, I think I'm going to use hold the line. That's what I'm going to say. You hold the line. Hold the line. Yeah. And if they don't get something representative, Dennis, they could. I mean, there's worse things to have than a really good quarterback room. We've seen that around here plenty of times. Yep. Yep. So, um, and, um, you know, uh, the train for Sydney Brown, we are, we are a little light at safety, but I really like McCuba. I mean, before he got hurt, I thought he was playing well. I mean, a lot of people say he wasn't, but I thought he was starting to catch on. I really like him, but you got to get, you got to get deeper in that, in that safety room. Yeah. I'm with you on McCuba. I like him coming out of Texas. I mean, that play he made, uh, the, the, the pick, the interception return against the chiefs that won that game. But he was hitting hard too. He was hitting people. Yeah. And he was, he was coming up and stopping to run. I don't want to see Cooper DeGene go back there and play safety. I guess in an emergency, he could. I just love him. Where he is. I just love him.

13:20Where he is. I think they do too. I mean, I did his first utility bring you to, it kind of makes you come to your mind. Like, could he do it? Would they make him do it? I agree. 14:22his spot? Because Michael Carter would be the option, right? They traded for him last year. Now, it seems like some people think he could play safety. When I've watched him in the NFL when he was with the Jets, when he was at his best, he played Nickel Corner. So... It probably. I would probably do that. I would probably, because with Cooper, he has the athletic ability and he has the size to do both. And he's done well. Great. He's done well at the, at the, uh, the slot. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, I think that with the way that they're doing things, that's probably more of a conversation than it has been. You know what I mean? I think that they're seriously thinking about that. They don't want to do it. But I think that with the people that they have on the roster now, that's the most comfortable thing to do. Yeah. I guess for me, I just... He's so good at Nickel. I don't want it. You don't want a movie. I don't want to change it. He's right now, when you talk about just the roster, anything that was just the roster,

15:22he's your best, that's your best option right now. It might be. You're right. I mean, now... That could change after the draft. Right. If they invest another relatively high pick in a safety, then that, that will change. But yeah. If you tell me right now, they have to line up and play a game. What was proposed there or talked about or you just said, it's not crazy. That maybe that's, because when they, when they restructure Michael Carter and they brought him back and they traded for him last year, his career has mostly been as a nickel corner. And right now, they're leaving safety totally bare, right? I can't get out of my head that it's that maybe more of an option than we are thinking, because I keep looking at that safety room, like, that's not good. That's one of the worst safety rooms in the NFL. But maybe they look at Cooper and say, well, we can just put him anywhere and he will excel. First utility. Here, there's certain players in the league. I think teams just look at like, all right, we'll just, wherever the hole is, we'll just plug him in there. Plug and play. And he'll be good. Yeah, that's what it kind of feels like. Right now with the squat, looking the way that it's looking, he's your best, he's your most viable option at that position until you figure out, until you get some more bodies on the roster.

16:23Yeah. And they're going to need more bodies. I mean, we'll see if they come out of the early part of the draft, the middle of the draft, the late in the draft, what a safety. But they just, I mean, at this point, it's, it's one of the thinner safety rooms in the NFL after the trade of Sydney, Brad, 215, 592, 9490 for this interesting poll result today. When it comes to the AJ Brown situation, do you trust how he, no matter what he does, yes, or no, he would have hit the percentages on that one, 65% yes. Why'd you change the 78%? Well, because I want to, I want to give like a real guess. Well, you would have been closer at 78% real 81% 80. Now it's, you know, if only you just held the line. I know the line. I didn't hold the line. 80% trust, how he, no matter what, no matter what must be nice to be trust just like that. People that are voting, yes, will still be okay if it's, if they get a six round pick for AJ? Yes. I don't know. You got to be okay with it. If you, if you, that's strongly about how we feel, it's how we season right and how we trust. Yeah.

17:23Now people change their mind real quick. Yeah. What do you think about Elliott's response to our other poll? What was that again? Are you given the Phillies a clean slate heading into the season, said if the Phillies get one, the sixers get one same situation? No. Well, first of all, new, we, the sixers are very deep into their season. And they're all injured and suspended. They're bringing a player in to get a clean slate at this point that they should have never traded away. Clean slate. Then do you think he means like more global than just like where they are in the season at the Phillies or the sixers now? The way you start with the sixers, but hold on, but the Phillies aren't the sixers now because the sixers have now transcended into an even darker territory than they once were. They have to wait me up into the playoffs and how they're just, will they even get into the playoffs? They have to wait up in the play end game. Yeah. Right. Now, I mean, the Phillies are, I've just had a better last four years in the sixers without questions. Yeah. Yeah. Right. The sixers had a bad year last year. I mean, terrible. They went 24 games last season. They're barely in the playoffs this year. They're trading away good young players for nothing, also like the sixers haven't, they

18:26had the one year where they were the one seed, but they're, they're, they're, however they go in guaranteed to be like a top two, three seed in the, in the entire East. Not, not many of these times. They were the one seed that you're the loss of the Hawks. That was the end. That was really where it started to feel like this, there was a real problem there. Now the, he always does it. He could hear the sixers in the sixers. They're not on the same level. I mean, I don't even think Douglass could sign off on that. Mm-hmm. I like Elliot Douglass. Don't, don't put it past you. No, I don't like Elliot, but I don't, I can't do that. No, well, I mean, the sixers we could hold things against because that they have, it's, it's been years and they've doubled down and it's bad money. I mean, the Phillies. They're more just, just keep digging themselves like for all the good stuff that he does, something like that. I, yeah, apparently McCain's getting some sort of video tributes in IHS and Dumas reported, which I don't even understand. I mean, like, what's the video tribute? It's the first 15 games the last season, nurse didn't even play him this year. Before he got hurt. Yeah. Like, what is the, what does that even mean? A video tribute. You know what I mean? His draft day and the fact in him, you know, playing a little bit that he did play here sparingly. You know what I should say? We're sorry, Jared. We, we, we imagine we did your own. We messed you up. This is this was obviously our fault. I mean, I would have to imagine he could not be happier than he got traded at this point. Of course. I mean, he's probably happy now, but, you know, because they're, they're winning, but he's like, you know, I thought you're going to be here for a while. They never got opportunities. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, he got to a better spot. I mean, without questions. He's definitely, definitely happier now, but initially probably was like, dang.
