Jets Snag Linebacker Talent

0:00On April 29th, the New York Jets crushed the 2026 NFL draft, nailing their biggest needs on offense and defense in the first two rounds. Then swinging for some upside picks on day three. On paper, this roster looks way stronger than the squad that limped into the playoffs last January. Still, General Manager Darren Moogie has work left, especially adding veteran depth at wide receiver and linebacker. Fans are clamoring for linebacker help to back up to Mario Davis and Jamie and Sherwood, a spot the draft skipped entirely. Enter, Bobby Okareki, the former Giants starter cut to save 9 million in cap space. At 29, he's still sitting free as April wraps, a solid cover guy who could rush the passer to. Sherwood balled out against the run last year, but struggled big in coverage, while 37-year-old Davis can't carry it all if injuries hit. Okareki's a bigger body, who'd upgrade over current backups like my call Walker. His run defense ain't a lead, but the Jets have 39.5 million in cap room to snag him on

1:04a cheap one-year deal. If Okareki wants a starting gig elsewhere, pivot to Matt Milano or Germain Pratt. Milano, coming off a pectoral injury with the bills, brings tackle for lost juice, but spotty coverage. Pratt tallied over 100 tackle split between Raiders and Colts, solid for depth without breaking the bank. Bottom line, you can never stack too much linebacker talent in this league. With Cap to Burn, the Jets should lock in that vet insurance and roll strong into 2026.
