Jets Sign Nahshon Wright: A Deep Threat with Potential

The New York Jets bolstered their secondary by signing cornerback Nishon Wright to a one-year

deal worth up to $5.5 million.

This 27-year-old standout stands 6'4 and weighs 190 pounds.

He earned a proble knot last season with the Bears after a breakout year, notching five

interceptions, 80 tackles, and 11 pass breakups while, starting all 16 games.

Wright's path started humbly at a junior college before transferring to Oregon State, where

he tallied nine picks over two seasons.

The Cowboys grabbed him in the third round of the 2021 draft, but early years brought

limited snaps, injuries, and stints with the go.

Chicago claimed him last spring, and he turned it around with a pick-six in his debut.

Jets fans are buzzing about his arrival, as their defense desperately needed takeaway

artists after a turnover drought hampered last season.

His length and sub 4.5 speed make him a threat on deep routes and crossers, plus those

receiver instincts from high school shine-in, ball-hawking plays.

That said, Wright got targeted 93 times last year, ranking high in yards and touchdowns

allowed with some footwork lapses and 11 missed.

He also drew penalties for hands-y play.

Still, his run support and occasional blitzing adverse utility, though he's mostly in

outside corner.

The Jets see him fitting their scheme under familiar coaching influences, competing with

Azerre's Thomas for a starting role next to Brandon.

Stevens, if he tightens coverage while keeping the picks coming, this could prove a steal

for their playoff push.
