Jets Meet with Russell Wilson for Backup QB Role

0:00On April 29th, Jets met with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson Monday night in foreign park, but no deals on the table yet. The team sees him as a potential backup behind starter Gino Smith, especially with their current options being Bailey Zabby, Brady Cook, and fourth-round draft pick, Cade Klobnik. Earlier this week, after the draft wrapped up, both sides took it slow on talks since Wilson lived nearby. No rush to sign, just feeling things out for depth at the position. Wilson's a 10-time pro-bola who won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks back in 2013. He's bounced around lately, two years with the Broncos, then Steelers in 2024, and Giants last season where he started the first. Three gains before getting benched. Jets GM, Darren Moogie, worked with Wilson in Denver as assistant GM, so there's familiarity there. Plus, his experience pairs well with Smith, and with Tyra Taylor still a free agent, they're eyeing other backup choices.
