Jets Draft QB Ty Simpson, Trade for Geno Smith

ESPN draft expert Mel Kuiper Jr. just released his mock for the 2026 NFL draft. He seized the Jets grabbing edge-rusher David Bailey from Texas Tech with the second overall pick. They also select Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at the 16th spot. That pick came from the Colts in the Saw's Gardener trade. The Jets just traded for veteran Geno Smith to serve as a bridge option. Simpson would not start right away and could learn from him first. Kuiper praises Simpson for his accuracy, quick processing, and mobility in the pocket. He threw 28 touchdown passes in 2025, despite only 15 career starts. Teens like the Jets need to take chances on quarterbacks to fix their issues.
