I start with Gina Smith before we get into some other things only from the standpoint of, you know, he yesterday, well, I have, you know, who knows what type of player he will be this year? He seems so confident in the way he has matured, the way his game has gotten better.

3:01The things he said yesterday genuinely seemed like he's happy to be with the Jets. I'll tell you, I was a Jeno fan yesterday and you know, not that the jet fans are thinking Super Bowl championship by any stretch, but I came away thinking this guy seems like he really gets it. Yeah, I don't, listen, I think a lot of people remember obviously the rough times, right? But I don't think many people have paid attention to Gina's journey. I think the quarterback that he wasn't Seattle really kind of lifted his career and everything that he's been able to call him just as far, his time in, you know, his time in Las Vegas was rough. I mean, they had the 31st ranked office in line. They were depleted at the receiver position. They didn't have a very good defense outside of the Matt Crosby. They didn't, you know, there was this a number of issues and it's tough too, because he wanted out of Seattle, right? Like he acts for the trade and they got Sam Darner and boom, they go, they move forward and win the Super Bowl. So it was a tough look.

4:02Never a less man. I think when you hear him talk, he understands that, hey man, you know, I'm not, he, there's our famous line, Dave Rote, but I didn't write back, right? That's one of the things he wings on. But never the less man, when you talk about where Gino is right now, I think he's been able to look back and say, hey man, I was a young kid who stepped into New York full of hope and full of gusto. Things didn't work out. I've learned a lot. I've developed, I'm humbled. I know who I am as a man, which is true. Like Jerry, I think I've told you this before. I don't feel like I was a pro to you for a five in my career, because you just have to grow up as a man, right? You gotta learn what it means to be a pro. How to take the building at each and every day, how to develop your relationships with people on and off the field. All that has to come into fruition. And once you kind of get that, you start to calm down. Things from the neck up seem to kind of get in line. And I think he right now is, I think he's really, I think he feels like he, he wants to kind of rewrite this chapter

5:02in his jet legacy. So I'm excited for him. I know a lot of people are that play with him. I don't know if Jets fans are as excited. But hopefully he can turn some heads and make things and go right the right way, this comes Sunday. And I agree with all that. I think the best part of it for him is that he's, hey, it seems like he actually wants to be here, just reading through the, between the lines and listening to him, which is kind of a cool thing number one. Number two, he's got a chance to rewrite the finish, because if he goes somewhere else, his jet career is his jet career, and he's got an opportunity now to kind of close it in a much better way, giving the fans a better sense or feeling about him as a quarterback. And in terms of the Raiders, yeah, I mean, I think a lot of people thought, based on the way he played in Seattle, he's going with Pete Carroll. It's going to be unbelievable. They do have some pieces there. I will tell you, I saw them up close and personal one game.

6:03And that offensive line was dreadful now. The lead bet. Did he make it? Oh, I mean, he was like under siege from the first snap of the game, and that was from a Cowboys defense that wasn't very good this year. I mean, think about that for a second. And, you know, did he make some bad throws? No doubt, but everybody makes bad throws. He made some for sure, but I also walked away from that game saying, this team is terrible. Now, you can come back at me and say, hey, dummy, the jets are terrible. There, and they were. But, you know, to the point yesterday, with all the draft picks that they've got coming up, you know, late in April with the draft in the first few rounds and, you know, the moves they've made, you know, and the offensive line they have, I can make a case that the 2026 jets are nowhere near with the 2025 jets were. And I'm not saying that this is a Super Bowl team, not by a long shot, but it can be a representative NFL football team. And he's got something to prove. And that, to me, I mean, you've been around it. There's no better player to have on your team

7:04than a guy with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. And he should have both. Well, I think that's what a lot of guys they are bringing in. You see a lot of this team making a lot of veteran moves. And I think, and we kind of briefly talked about it, they had to just have had to get to a level of respectability, man. Nobody respected the jets. Nobody wanted to be a part of the organization. And now, when you start thinking about the Demario Davises and Minka Fitzpatrick's, you talk about Geno Smith, you talk about some of these acquisitions, the guys who have played enough ball, and are respected around the league. And if they go into the season and they win, I say seven or eight games. Now people are saying, okay, there's something going on in New York that I maybe want to be a part of. And think about the Carolina Panthers for a while. Nobody wanted to go down to Carolina, go to Carolina and play, right? But it was Dan Morgan, it was Dave Canales. It was them putting together brick by brick pieces to elevate this team. And now you look at the Panthers in a totally different light. So only because some of their free agencies,

8:04they were able to bring in ends and build within the draft. So I think the jets are on that path. And thinking about this too, Jerry, a lot of these guys aren't, these are bridge guys. You know, like a lot of these guys are one or two year deals. These aren't deals that you can lead them for a long time. They're going to go into this draft and kind of restock some quality pieces behind this veteran leadership. And I think the jets are doing it the right way. I'm happy with Muji, I'm happy with AG. No, it's interesting because I've sat here for the last several weeks and I don't understand, you know, what the jets do there in such a weird spot. You want to draft the quarterback, you don't want to be good, but you know, the coach needs to be good to keep his job or at least better than last year. And I feel like you just kind of answered the question I've had for the last month, month and a half. And that's, you've got to be a representative NFL football team and an attractive place for players to go to. And the jets haven't been that. And, you know, I agree with you. If all of a sudden they're not a three and 14 team, but they're an eight and nine team or a seven and 10 team that has made a jump from three wins to seven or possibly eight. All of a sudden, maybe a free agent, and I know money, a cashier's king, I know that. But maybe a free agent that's got a choice, jets or team B, jets or team C.

12:11And the jets seem like they're on the rise. It is New York, I get it's the jets, but at least it becomes more of an attractive destination for them to go to. Whereas, you know, after last year, I mean, who wanted to come here? And the way they're doing, it seems like piece by piece, maybe that would be in the cards for 2027. And listen, I think for a lot of jets fans, you're like, you bring in Gino back. They only have once again the bad memories, but Gino, right now, if you now only watch this style of play, but you've seen him develop from the neck up, right? Like he's making, I know last year, he, he, the lead high, 17 in seceptions. But a lot of that was because of the makeup around him. You talked about the bad offense line. He didn't have a lot of options. But I think when Gino, when he's, when he's playing well and he's dialed in, I think he's, he's a top 15 quarterback, maybe a top 10 quarterback at best, right? And I think for the jets, you just need competent quarterback play. You need somebody to stabilize the offense. You have a really good running back in Briso. You have this really good young offense line.

13:12You talk about a defense right now that's going through a turnover and they got some older pieces that can really get these, some of these guys in the building to grow up fast. So the arrow's going up for them. I think Gino right now has to not feel like he has to rewrite history, but just come in and do the job. Do it as efficient and as competent as he possibly can. And everything will, will go right around him. If he's able to do that, I think he's going to be happy with the stay as a New York jet. Right. So to what you were just discussing, Al and I did this, I guess it was whatever, maybe Monday or Tuesday when, you know, Gino Smith was rumored to the jets or possibly coming to the jets. And so I went back and I looked at the numbers, exactly like what you're talking about. And so yeah, last year was bad. There is no mistaking that last year with bad year. It was a terrible season, 19 touchdown, 17 pegs. He threw, he threw for only 3,000 yards, but it was a bad football team. You go back to the previous three years in Seattle and listen to these numbers. And again, they didn't win the Super Bowl with him. They wanted this year with Sam Donald,

14:13but they were a good team and he throws for in 2024. Two years ago, not 12 years ago, he threw for 4,300 yards, 21 touchdowns, 15 pegs, maybe a little too many on the interceptions, but 21 and 15. And the year before that, only a few years ago now, he throws for 3,600 yards, 20 touchdowns, nine interceptions and one year before that, 30 and 11 and 4,200 yards. So it's not like he's not capable of putting up big numbers. He's done it and he's done it very recently. And so, you know, I kind of, in an odd way, I'm looking forward to some Gino Smith Sundays. I gotta tell you, well, the floor's been so damn low, Jared. That's true. It's not like, you know what I mean? Like if you're a judge fan and you had a stomach, the Zach Wilson times and Justin Fields and all that, man, you just want to court, you just want to court it back that can run in offense, right? Who can be on time with the football, who can improvise with his legs, who can throw the ball down the field when it's when the options open. Like you just wanted, there's a level of quarterback play

15:14you just need to see. The jets have been underneath that bar for so long that Gino's actually a fresh, a fresh of breath air in a weird way. And so a fresh of breath air, will he? Just earlier, my mind is still spinning. I apologize. Hey, I'm with you. I got you. But it's, I know Eddie's like clip him and Evan Roberts. Can we do it? Can we do it? Can we do it? Yeah, really? Gotcha. And so yeah, it's, it's, I think jets fans are, are going to be cautiously optimistic about Gino, but I'm excited for it.
