Jesus Died, Matthew 27:50

0:00Hey friends, welcome to Daily Family Bible, where we talk with our families about the Bible. So, who do we have on the show today? Today we have Aiden with us. Thank you for being here Aiden. Do you have a joke for us? Knock knock. Who's there? Cows go. Cows go who? No, cows go moo. Good one. Alright, let's get to the Bible. What's our verse for today? Aiden, can you read Matthew 27 verse 50? Of course. After Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, he died. Good job. Good job. Yeah, that verse is from Matthew 27, and there's a lot going on here. So, Jesus is brought to Pilate the soldiers that are in charge of Jesus when he's brought before Pilate.

1:06They make fun of him and they hurt him, and then Jesus is nailed to a cross. And so, this is the Easter story, isn't it? Yeah, we're right in the middle of the Easter story. And then we come to the part where Jesus dies. And it says from noon until three o'clock that day, the whole land was covered with darkness. It says that Jesus was crying out, which is really hard to read. And when he was crying out, they thought, oh, he's calling for Elijah. But in any case, he's crying out. And that's where we read in verse 50, after Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, he died. And it says at that moment, the temple curtain was torn into, from top to bottom, and the earth shook, and the rocks split. And so, this is a really big deal, right? Yeah. Yeah. And so, because he's crying out, it suggests to me that this wasn't easy, right?

2:06And it gets me thinking that, you know, Jesus could have called on angels to save him and not have to go through this. And so, I wonder, Eden, what that kind of means to you? Like, why do you think he chose not to have angels come, or he chose to go ahead and die and go through all that pain? I think he died for us because, well, yeah, he literally just died for us because we are his most beloved creation. And he really loved us, and he just wanted us to meet him in heaven, and he wanted us to be connected through him to God. And when he rose again three days later, he defeated Satan, and he preached longer for us, and then he went up to heaven with his father. And now he sits at that right hand of God, and I think that's pretty cool. Yes! Oh, I love that, Eden, and I love that you know this is not the end of the story that we're reading today, huh?
