Jeff Webb, Cheerleading Pioneer, Passes Away

0:00On March 23rd, Jeff Webb, a pioneering competitive cheerleading and founder of Varsity Spirit, has died at age 76 from a head injury suffered. Two weeks ago during a pickleball game, he was hospitalized after the freak accident and his family chose to take him off life support on Thursday. Webb started his cheerleading empire in 1974 with the Universal Cheerleading Association, which grew into the biggest cheer, organization in the United States. He sold the company in 2014 for $1,500,000, and later helped push cheerleading toward Olympic recognition through the International Cheer Union. A dedicated conservative activist, Webb mentored young leader Charlie Kirk and spoke highly of him after Kirk's assassination on September 10th. He even attended the White House ceremony where Kirk received the presidential medal of freedom posthumously.
