I don't feel right about that. Hey, y'all it's up, it's Lauren the Rosa, and this is the latest with Lauren the Rosa. This is your daily table, all things pop culture, and it's having news, and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. Now I've been all day long just watching this Jay-Z interview that dropped to a GQ.
12So Jay-Z did a sit down exclusive interview with GQ, the written article drop, and then a 35 minute long video interview drop with GQ. Now y'all know, first of all, Jay-Z is not one to just sit down and do any interviews like at all period, but he's back outside right now. This interview was actually filmed in January. He sat down with a Frazier start in LA for two candid conversations, and these are like some of the first in-depth interviews he's done in years. In the written part of the interview, it said that the two conversations he had were two hours long. So these were very long interviews, and they combined them and busted down to a little bit over 35 minutes. Now I was watching this interview, I watched it twice so far, and I do plan on watching it again, because I just felt like there's so much that you can take from it, and just like so many different ways to analyze the conversation.
13I feel like the way that they're talking through a lot of his lyrics and his music as they're having a conversation. My last time, not my last time, but then I told myself the next time I go back in and listen to this, I want to go back in and actually listen to it, play the song, go back, listen to it again. It's almost like listening to a new album watching this interview, right? But okay, so let's first let's check in behind the scenes of the grind. But y'all can't tell I am really excited, like I am super excited. And I think it's because in the last, what, like two episodes of the podcast, so if you were listening to this episode and you did not listen to the last two episodes of the podcast, please go back and listen. You guys will hear me, you know, as I check in behind the scenes of the grind, having a conversation with myself, a very honest one, just about, you know, legacy and longevity and same power.
14And more than just like, you know, career and achieving and all of that, like, more than just like all of that, um, real life's like impact. And I think my biggest thing is, you know, as I'm navigating in this new space and in this new room and, you know, I'm new over here in the podcast base that we're, we're building the latest with one of the roles of podcast community and the low riders. One of the things that I'm always trying to figure out is why, like what is my not figure out, but I'm always trying to make sure that I'm delivering on my why and why am I doing something. So like, you know, I talk about purpose and understanding my purpose. And, and really getting closer to God, I believe that's like two years. And that becoming so clear to me purpose becoming clear to me, um, alignment and alignment changes for me. You know, alignment changes depending on, you know, I felt like there's like one general like, okay, boom, you're an alignment in life and spirituality and love and, you know,
25but I think that there are different things that in different variables that come into your life that move the alignment or, or try to flow along with the alignment. And when it feels good, they are aligned. So not that alignment changes, but the things that align with you as you are in your alignment, moving your purpose. Um, something's hit and something's just done. And I think that all of that is important. And I'm always trying to figure out what I'm doing every day and what I'm spending my time on is getting you to a place where, like, the audience, the listener, the person impacted is also feeling that way and also moving closer to what they believe their purpose and their mission and their alignment is because of, you know, the vessel of storytelling that I think is such a, I think it's such a gift of God to be able to story to some move people words and because of all of this and because I'm, you know, able to, you know, talk about these interviews and learn from these people.
30But watching this interview, I'm learning from him. I'm like, okay, why is that exciting me and why is that something I want to share my audience and I always want to make sure I'm continuing to X, why is that makes sense to you guys. I hope so. You can tell I am really like, and such as this face, um, just after watching this interview a couple of times, I feel like this interview confirmed for me that, you know, I might not have it all together, but I'm on the right track. It does it for you as well. So this is a check in behind the scenes of the grind as we open the episode, but it's kind of like a, it's like a, it's like a, not a check in inside. Let me check you real quick. Let me make sure your mind is right because we're going to get into something. This is definitely a conversation that shook the room. So let's get on into the lady. On the adventures of curiosity, co podcast, what if the right fit isn't what everyone expects? In the case of the right fit, Ella explores movement, confidence, and belonging, and learns that not all strength looks the same. Tennis is powerful. Fast, focused, and kind of fun. Listen to the away end with Daniel Alarcon and John Green on the iHeartRadio app Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
47Alright son, time to put out this campfire. Dad, we learned about this in school. Oh, did you now? Okay, what's first? Smokey Bear said to. First, drown it with the bucket of water, then stir it with the shovel. Wow, you sound just like him. Then he said. If it's still warm, then do it again. Where can I learn all this? It's all on smokeybear.com with other wildfire prevention tips because only you can prevent wildfires. Brought to you by the USDA Forest Service, your state forester and the ad council. We fed down with GQ, 35 minute interview and they touched on so many different things in this interview. There was so much that I learned. So in the opening of it right out of the gate, Jay Z gets into what his 2025 was like. And if you're not familiar, 2025 was like the attack on the black billion there. Okay, Jay Z being one of Jay Z was accused of sexual assault in 2024 and a civil lawsuit. And it was dismissed in February of 2025.
49The lawsuit also named did he in the lawsuit and then alleged that the two of them. After like a video music awards MTV video music awards. Like at an after party that they raped allegedly it alleged that they raped a 13 year old girl in 2000. Now from the rip Jay Z was fighting back and and denied all of this right. And he talks in this interview just about like what 2025 like you know that whole combination of that year. And you know what it was like. Let's take a look. It's hard. Really hard. Yeah, I'm glad we got right today. You know, so you just get that out the way. Okay. I was really heartbroken by like everything that occurred. You know, with all like, you know, we in the space now is just like. Almost like consequence is not thought about enough. So everything is so incident. You know what I'm saying here.
50Like that whole bus B. The lawsuit that was dropped dismissed. I should took a lot out of it. I was angry. I haven't been that angry in a long time. Uncontrollable anger. Like you don't put that on someone like that's a that's the thing that you better be super sure. It used to be like that. Like you have to be super sure before you put those kind of things on a person. Let's say a person like me. Like even when we were doing the worst things we were doing bad. And this I learned that number one, the human and the best of us never dies, right? Because I don't know for some reason. It's like you look at JZ you look at Beyonce and they are able to. And I say not going on and respond. Even though I, you know, before we played this clip told you guys that. JZ responded to this, you know, he was he came out of. He came out of wherever, you know. JZ and Beyonce reign supreme where they ignore everything and made a very very clear statement that he was not going to let this just happens.
54And then he was going to fight back in that Tony Busby, who was the attorney that was representing this girl. Have basically she, she, she was nothing with the wrong one. And he was going to make an example out of him because these were lies that were damaging not only him, his brand, his business, but also his family. And. It's like you think I always I have the saying a lot of times I asked myself like what would Beyonce do? And the reason why I bring a boy Beyonce doing something about JZ is because they are like they do a lot of the same things where they see everything they know everything, but they don't respond. They don't be a part of a lot of drama and the BS and all of that stuff, right? And the reason why I wrote down the human and the best of us never dies and I was listening to this prior interview because I'm like, no matter how much you don't respond, no matter, you know, how put up and not the way you are, no matter how successful you are, no matter. You're human nature to just be hurt.
54Like here in JZ, I mean, first of all, I just feel like hearing, you know, a man admit yo, I was hurt is that's instantly going to stop doing your tracks because men don't, you know, I'm going to do that. Men don't love to admit when they're feeling the question of black men, but to hear him say that, like I was so hurt. And then he goes on and he talks about, you know, all of the things that he went through and how he, you know, he even throughout the fight, it was still like it was so heavy and it was way on him. And I think a lot of times too, when you're looking at these celebrities, I know for myself, have the person who reports on people's lives and talk about people's lives. Every now and then I got to check myself, like how I check John and begin in this episode, like, all right, where are you mind that you are ready for this type of conversation because, you know, where I'm at and we're in the NGM vibrant, you know, we about to really get into some things. Sometimes I have to check myself and be like, yo, to you is just a story, to you was just a, you know, breaking news and exclusive headline, a video reaction, you know, a segment on the breakfast club.
59A, you know, talking point on the latest along the rows of the pockets, but to these, this is someone's real life. And to have that power in your hand to, you know, be such a weight in someone's life, you got it. I mentioned the whole asking myself, why, right? You got to ask yourself, why, like, what is the, what is the greater good and all this and even if there is no greater good. Why, why do you care to send to this and, you know, it's all crazy. A lot of times, like, I'm going to be yelling at me about this all the time. Like, you know, the stories I choose and how I choose to talk about things and part of most part, like, you know, I'm able to push back and say, but it's my job. I have to talk about a to get to be and to see. But when I'm listening to Jay, he talked and I'm, I'm feeling the emotion in the hurt on him. I'm thinking about all the headlines and all the news and all the media and everything that just pile on and pile on and pile on.
59But he's dealing with this in real life. Like his daughter, he had to see this, he had to sit blue, I'd be down and explain these things to her. He had to talk to, he talks about it in the interview, to talk to his wife about the fact that he wasn't just going to settle this out. He was going to fight it. We should have dragged it along and did drag along for some time until, you know, he prevailed, but still. And, and you know, he had people that said buy him, but he talks about community. On the Adventures of Curiosity Co. podcasts, what if the right fit isn't what everyone expects? In the case of the right fit, Ella explores movement, confidence and belonging and learns that not all strength looks the same. Tennis is powerful, fast, focused and kind of fun, strong swing Ella. No, it's blazing hot and dry out here. Don't you remember Smokey Bear says.
08Avoid using power equipment when it's windy or dry. Where do you learn this? Oh, it's on smokeybear.com with many other wildfire prevention tips. Right. Thanks, honey. Bear. Because remember only you can prevent wildfires. Brought to you by the USDA Forest Service, your state forester and the ad council. And then I mean I think you know one of the biggest you know takeaways from this interview is like. I think the people always talk about like being real and what real is real negative. And you know like all of that right. And I think. What I've been able to experience in my life just because of how I was brought up. And and and and how I was raised not even it's because of my environment right like people talk about Delaware and it being so small whatever I'm from. Women's in Delaware and women's in Delaware. It is very like I mean it's like any inner city. You know what I mean? You have your violence. You have your poverty. You have you know your middle class.
09We have the people are doing well. You had the you know the positivity of like you know the boys and girls clubs scared rings like but it's it's community for where we go through our things where we go through it together. But one of the things that growing up in that environment, but also just in my house before I even ever walked outside. One of the things that I was always instilled on in me was reality and being a realist. And I think a lot of people that people look at as like real or people that claim they're so real or real about things or you know I'm just that vulgar because I'm honest and I'm real they're not realist. Like a lot of people are doing those things because they want the shop value that comes with you know. The saying the thing that nobody wants to say or they they want the the um. They they they want they want the recognition in the room like they want to be the loudest person in the room without having to actually be the loudest person so they do loud things right. And I'm listening to JZ talk about just being a realist and and just dealing with the world for what it is like yo it's hurting things we can't change.
15In all calculus conversation of like I'm not running from the fact that I make money and I do well why should I this is how the world is. It's meant for you to get out here and get your bread get out the way. Let's take a look at it. Yeah so I wanted you to talk a little bit about this idea of like like you said earlier like the things that you do for the culture. The ways that you put on the ways that you try to protect and move forward but kind of the pushback that you get sometimes about like people throw a capitalist at you and a derogatory sense. Yeah I think in that verse specifically only thing I heard coming up was the American dream until we started being successful and it was like wait a minute. You're selling out because you make it money. That was the first thing that was put on musicians. People had this a law for the struggling artists. That's a mind game. What we would call it back in the day of trip analogy. It was like I'm not going for that. Like no no I make art first and then I make sure that I'm compensated for my art. I mean I didn't take advantage.
15I didn't get here by taking advantage of people. I didn't take it but no one. You know and I just see the world for what it is not for what I wanted to be. I'm a realist not ideal. It's not idealistic. People speak about the world how they want to see it. You never going to win like that. One of the biggest things and closing that I took from this interview. Jay Z was talking about the fact that he did not get on the clips album. So the clips dropped let guy sort of out and it was teased throughout their whole press run that Jay Z. Like I mean not throughout their whole press run. Prior to like before the music came out people thought that Jay Z was going to be on the album. Even when it came to the breakfast club they talked about the fact that like the Jay Z verse you know didn't happen or like you know whatever that conversation was. So Jay Z gets into why he decided not to be on the album. The street really wanted you on the clips album. Yeah I was close. I was close. I think if I think the first thing that I say.
16It has to be said from me. You can't be like I don't want to be so rigid with it though. I'm going to keep that open. I'm going to take that back. But at that moment. At that moment I was like yeah I want to do something but in order for me to move forward I got to get. When I heard this I was like okay so this right here so it's like okay you got the motivation. You got the you got the like you know the gems that you could take away but this right here this is a part of the playbook. That that that keeps that is what it is. You know mentality life is what it would is going to be you know be realistic about things that was like that was a setup. That was the confirmation of like there's a certain cloth of people he's talking to and everybody else is going to go over their heads right. And if it hits you it hits you if it don't it don't. But right here it's like here's the call to action for me anyway. So what I wrote down when I heard this part of the interview was stop take time digest and I wrote a question to myself.
17How do you do that in 2026 and the lane that you're in knowing where you want to go to and what you want to build. Because you're disrupting and no one else is going to have done it before you've gotten there. So it's like figuring all of that out. I think that's what I've been going through these last couple days of like all right. Like everything in 2026 is so popcorn it's so like loud there's so much noise oh my god when I first got TMZ. I felt like it was like I mean still very clear to me like vision and purpose like that's a godsend thing that's that's not funky. But I feel like the market like I was able to look out and be like all right you know this person over here doing that this person over here doing that and that I felt like like I could see it but I felt like you guys as the audience to really see it like. Who really has truth who really has fat who's just loud who do you rely on who should you rely on what is what this you know truth and reporting in these takes in these viral tweets and you know like how do we.
22Focus out the BS and noise now I feel like I don't know how much I believe a regular consumer is different for me because I'm in it and I'm on the side of like reporting and I talked about the media. And and how this interview me think about the responsibility of the media how heavy you can make things for someone right like what does that look like in the new era of new media like what's that what's that middle point of being human understanding human emotion having them yourself. But also having empathy and compassion and and not wanting to be a part of the noise and actually stopping digesting but still breaking through and disrupting like what is that formula and like how do you figure that out because Jay Z has figured that out very well. And that is why he's so successful and that is why everything he does because all comes off so poised because even as interview you can tell he's still in his feelings he's still upset he is hurt he is pissed off but he also is happy and excited about some of the things that he's done the Super Bowl Kendrick Lamar all these things but the emotion is still there but it's so poised and it's so gathered and it's very like sharp and concise and it does exactly and it teaches and it sticks with you.
39And I know that that comes with time you know things like that come with time you know but like I'm always trying to figure out like okay how do I get to that point that greatness. Now I end on this because a lot of y'all gave Jay Z shit for including Kendrick Lamar and Super Bowl when all the Drake and Kendrick Lamar not like us stuff was happening and y'all made it like Jay Z picked the side in the battle and he's adjusting that head on he ain't running from it. Did a personal thing that you chose Kendrick for the Super Bowl it's like oh man he's choosing the side and he's putting and he's not. Like I don't have what do I have to do with that I chose the guy that was having a monster year. I think it was right choice. It wasn't in in some sort of alliance to a battle on him. Yeah. What I care about them two guys battling like it's like I'll do with me or have at it have fun. He's almost like not not on just me by the way they drag everybody in it like everyone's part of this conspiracy to undermine Drake I guess.
43Like with a fuck like what I'm fucking Jay Z. Or I do respect him. I'm fucking oh I'm doing respectfully or like for what to what in yeah it couldn't be like these guys just don't like each other. Yeah and I think they haven't like each other for a long time before you. Y'all ain't going to hear honda the drink box is already out there doing exactly what I just told y'all about all the noise talking all crazy. You know what I mean I mean business is business is strictly financial but in this it's it's numbers. Like he kid like he said he has conversations about the artists that are going to come from the Super Bowl he's not just picking out of the blue. The numbers are there the proof is in the pudding. Please go take a listen to this interview is also a written interview as well too. And I'm going to go back and read the written one as well because sometimes they leave stuff in a written interview that isn't in the video interview.
43And I am if you guys cannot tell just I don't know I did this one grab me. So this has been another episode of the latest and learn the roles that I am your host Lauren Rosa.
