0:00Tyler Reddick here from 2311 Racing. Victory Lane? Yeah, it's even better with Chamba by my side. Race to chambacacino.com, let's Chamba. No purchase necessary, VTW Group, voidware prohibited by law, CTNCs, 21 Plus, sponsored by ChambaCacino. Check podcasts. Thanks for listening to the Donnie and Donnie podcast. Catch the show Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to noon on check. I think you're going to want to hear this. Your local sports coverage lives here. Sure would assist to an overly curved super blade. Do not think blue with John Taylor. I say that the winner of the draft lottery should be the winner of a two man loose and Rick Daly wall. I had a cherry tree up a little Ricky. I used to go up that tree and just sit there for hours and bunch on those cherry. Years Donnie and Dolly. It's the first Friday of 2026. January the 9th and this is Donnie and Dolly.

1:01The team on check. I am Ryan Henderson alongside. Rick Daly wall, Derek Wong directing, and the dual producing threat of Nina Savage and Quintaylor. Both here today on this Friday. Rick, how are you? I love Quintaylor. Good work on a big scoop. He had a big scoop this week. He had a big scoop this week. He's putting you to shame, man. I know kids in the Western Hockey League. You know what? He knows these kids, a good scoop by the young Quint. So if you want to know anything happening with the Vancouver Canucks, unfollow Dolly wall sports and track down Quintaylor. That's a cocky thing. Because he is going to be the man that has the scoops from here on out. You know what I have to do today? For the third time, I have to try and get a filling done at my dentist. In your teeth? Yeah. No, my arm, yes, my teeth. What is it with you and dentists? You're at the down. I know. I've been with dentists in years. Brush. Floss. They've tried freezing my mouth twice, right down here. And it won't work. I've talked about this on the show before. Can they freeze your mouth before the show? And now, so they're going to try for the third time

2:02to freeze my mouth today and try and get this filling done. I've been with dentists in years. Well, that's not great. It's good. No. There's nothing wrong. If you don't go, you don't know that there's anything wrong. If you don't go, there's nothing wrong. You only go to a dentist when there's something wrong. You only go to a doctor when there's something wrong. So how do you don't know? You don't go to a doctor. It's pretty good chances you're doing good stuff. So how do you check your teeth? Huh? How do you check your teeth to know you've got no cavities? If I'm not going to the dentist, it's a good thing. That is the worst thing. I know how to do things. You only go to the dentist when you have a toothache. Okay. So what about your car? I don't have a toothache. Your car's running fine. Why do you go get it checked on? Because I got, it tells me how many of my mouth before it's in oil change. Yes. But I don't go to the dentist. It's nothing's wrong. Why are you going to the dentist? It's not wrong. Rick, it's all about preventative care. Yes. Preventative care. But the dentist don't call. I don't call. The dentist is never going to call you. Why would you call the dentist and say, hey, can I get a, bring me in and put some needles

3:08in my gums. Nobody wants to. But needle is right. It's preventative. One day you're going to wake up and you're going to go, and then you're going to need a rick and a five, six, seven years. The two teeth stuff can spread. You need to floss. Yes. You need to floss. Every day I was in a floss or now I'm a flosser. Yeah, that is big. And they always judge you like when they ask, well, you wouldn't know because you don't go to the flossing is big for your heart health as well. Well, everything. What is this a doctor show? Let's go. I can't. Your logic here is just incredible. Hey. Anyway, you don't believe that? It's preventative. No. If the doctor, if the dentist don't call me, I don't call him. Oh. Okay. Braden from Abbotsford, you're about to get blasted in the inbox, Rick. That's bad. You don't go to the dentist. No. I've just only imagined when the plaque builds up. No, you know, that's Braden. Yes, that's the thing. Braden is bang on. Braden. There's nothing wrong. I'm feeling good. I know. You don't feel good. You don't call your doctor and say, hey, huh? You're supposed to go for cleaning. That's exactly.

4:08They clean it. They get in there with the thing. No. I haven't gotten to a dentist in years. Why the hell should I? Everything's good. This is going to be one of the more lopsided things the inbox has ever seen. You're already getting killed already. We've got four messages. One of which that says, I'm not using the only one. If you're not feeling any pain, don't go. It's preventing it. All right. Your car's running fine. Why do you go get it checked on? Clearly, I'm doing something right. Well, we don't know that. Yeah, we don't know. It's been six, seven years. I don't know. That's so bad. No. There's no need to go. Years? I haven't gone in long time. Look at this. Hold on. Dolly is spot on. Why go unless something's wrong? Boom. Because it's right there. Right there. Okay. Why go? Rick's going to be off for like a week. Yes. And it's going to be connected to a tooth. You're going to need a root canal. I do do a doctor check up once a year. Because he wants you. Yeah, a physical. Yeah. So he looked in your mouth at all. There's not so wrong. There's not so wrong. But Rick can get free benefits.

5:10Yeah. If you get his benefits. If I'm paying free year after year, well, then what the hell? Why go? I'm not going for it. I'm not going for it. Doctors are different. Dentists are different. I have no issues. This is unsigned. Dolly will goes by the apple of the day theory of medicine. You do. You do. I need an apple of the day. Because you do not have an apple of the day. Does keep the doctor away. And a banana. Yeah. Apple is one of the beautiful. And by the way, the harder the apple, the crunchier, the better. You don't want a soft apple. But anyways. I do eat an apple every day. Every single day. Jab, Jab. Crown Royal isn't no added sugar drink. Because no reason to go. He's backing you up. He's saying there's no reason for you to go. There's no, and that's another thing. I, I have cut sugar right out. Yeah. If you got cut sugar out, your teeth are going to be fine. I think Crown Royal has a lot of sugar in it. Okay. Not according to the jab job. Not if you don't put coke in it. And it's just ice and water. Then it's okay. It's all alcohol. I'm making adjustments. Yes. One. And you wait until you turn 50. Okay. Because your best friend's going to be a five three five rob after 50.

6:12And it. Well, why do you put that on? I, uh, eight five three five and bulk. Are you kidding me? Yes. Some of those might be connected to your teeth. Stop it. Anyway. This is the worst for a second. There is a few people backing them up, but not many. There's a few, but not many. If I have no pain with my teeth, why would I go to a dentist? Because it's clean your teeth. No, I go to the doctor once a year. And it's coming up at the end of March. Yeah. I have to sit down with them and we go over everything. But I'm not talking to no dentist until unless I have to. I know it will. We'll run down what's happening locally in a bit on the sports, because there's a lot happening this weekend at Jam Pack. But we will start with the Vancouver connocts losing for their second straight game on this road trip at least, they've lost quite a bit for this road trip. They open it with two losses. They lose last night five one in Detroit. And what they had, other, the unlike Buffalo. Yeah. I mean, Buffalo. They were very slow out of the gates. They talked about that. They were harping on that post game

7:16In Buffalo, but last night better start But it ultimately ends up being like the same result. That's five straight losses now for the conucks O3 and two Ricky. They got one win in eight games their last regulation win December the 19th in Long Island That was nine games ago many many many days when they beat the islanders 4-1. I mean You brought this up earlier than the week and you're right. They can say whatever word they want whatever word they want They want to call it a rebuild. They're in there. They're in there. They're in it. They have no choice They can't say we're not in a rebuild because they wake up today 31st place They are nine points out of a playoff. Do you understand? Climbing seven teams nine points out how tough that is when the parity in the NHL and every team is going to over time every night Yeah, I mean have fun have fun making up nine points and seven teams And let's be honest the only reason why they're not in the dead last is because the Winnipeg Jets are helping them out the Jets Rick Mm-hmm. I don't know what it's they've lost one. I think 11 straight now. They cough up

8:19Game to the oi there's last night. They lose four three. They're dead last in the league in the last 10 games They're 07 and three. I don't know what is going on Winnipeg Scott or Neal should be not did not they were number one in the NHL. I know well Okay, I mean they like you look at their core on paper of guys. Yeah It's a much deeper better core than what they have here in Vancouver. Oh way better and yet they're dead last this morning But anyway, the connox as I mentioned five one they lose in Detroit history made with Patrick Kane getting his 500th goal There I mean just there's just not you watch these games right now tough to watch They're tough to watch and there's just not not many things you can pull out of them and go well This was a bright spot like to be honest I think Jake de brosk has been a bright spot since the power play on the power play. Yeah, I mean it's ridiculous He gets another one of his mom goals in the power play and he keeps going on the ground You know who's setting them up all the time is Sherwood. Yeah, Sherwood's setting them up all the time and David camp was their center last night I know you love talking about that. Don't get me a Can't the center last night and Sherwood who's doing everything they're asking him to do

9:25Ryan he is leading the team in goals and hits a power play penalty killing he works hard He works his butt off. He is doing every single thing he could do for them to get a good return Yeah, he really is four shots last night six shots against Buffalo 10 shots last two games He is really been good. I know defensively he's made some mistakes But offensively he's doing everything you can possibly do to help the connox get good assets Well defensively Rick that's I mean a major talking point whether you listen to the post game you read things on Twitter People are really Puzzled by the defensive structure of this team and some of the mistakes. I don't know if it's Got hold it hold it back up back up before you talk about structure They got two 20-year-old defenseman on the blue line. Sure, but look at and they got one 21-year-old defenseman last night One of the big mistakes was made by Tyler fires. He's up at the blue line. What are you doing chasing back? Right? That's what I mean, you know like I'm with you like Zeeb Buoyam last night, right? I can't remember which goal it was but he was caught out for like two and a half minutes, right?

10:25That's happened to him in other games as well. That's young things what I mean whatever I'll live with that all day, but Tyler Myers running all the way. He was up at the blue line I don't understand it was waving his way back in and but they let so many look at pelka Which is name scored the goal. He was all pelica pelica. He was all by himself. I know well They continuously crashed on one side. Yeah, they're chasing all over the place And so I don't know learning with young defenseman. It's gonna happen Yeah, you got two 20-year-old defenseman, one 21-year-old defenseman. Not many teams have that. I mean, you got to be honest Yeah, no, they're learning on the fly and those three defensemen are gonna be the beneficiaries of those mistakes when they learn and get better Yeah, oh for sure for sure one other thing was that Vandercane minus two in the game last night. He was dropped I think to the fourth line Nils Holglander moved up took his spot that was in the second period So that's interesting. I mean Vandercane is I don't know I don't know where that goes and what happens if if they end up actually finding someone to take him on at the deadline But he seems lost right now Brock Besser. That's another game without a goal. Besser hold on 19 games without a goal

11:29Yeah, one in 26. Yeah, I think one guy Brock's got to get going Holglander no points in 10 games this year He is mostly stapled on the fourth line and his salary went up from one to three million So look they got a lot of offensive guys that are our Spuddering I mean massive slumps massive slumps massive slumps. We should mention in our next segment We're going to be joined by a friend of the program friend of this market Troy Stetcher from Richmond Of course may beliefs defensemen All right, so we're gonna get to him in a few minutes of course canucks are in Toronto for their next game day off today But they're in Toronto for the next game tomorrow night Saturday night hockey night in Canada You know there'll be a lot of eyeballs all that always speaking of hockey night in Canada our good pal on this program every Second Monday has a article that dropped today and I believe you touched on 32 thoughts as well But Elliott Freeman reporting that you're sparing cock and E. M.E. Yeah, his name is out there out of Carolina And they're weighing offers on whether or not they want to move him. It should be noted that

12:31Elliott pointing out in that article today that he was Cook and E. M.E.'s name was involved in discussions with Los Angeles for Philip DeNoe and also with con with the connox for Quinn Hughes if a package like that was ever going to happen. Well, what are you hearing on cooking? Let me add more to this. Yeah, this is a player Cotton in the Niammi. This is a player that I hope they trade And I am praying praying this guy does not come to Vancouver So this guy caught Niammi the connox have been linked to him for three years 2022 The hurricanes have tried to trade him to Vancouver for quite some time If the Patterson net just deal would have gone through he would have been a part of it coming of Vancouver as well I was told this morning to check into the connox interest in him being available again There's been talks between Carolina and Vancouver about this player for quite some time the connox loved him in his draft year But it wasn't these guys. He was bending in linden that liked him. He went third overall He has not produced as a third Olympic But what he has done is stayed in the league since an 18-year-old. He's got 500 games played

13:33He doesn't bring the offense. He's a bottom six guy now, but he does come with term Cost control. So we'll keep an eye on that. He's going to his name always pops up in Vancouver Anytime Vancouver and Carolina talk this guy Niammi's name comes up every single time. He's going to be 26 in July He's got four years left on a contract at 4.82 million dollars a season six points in 25 games this year How would the connox even get him knowing he's making 4.8? There would have to be two things a center goal in that way of significant Salary. Yeah, you can guess who that would be. Yeah, yeah, and whether or not that's 11-6 But I mean Carolina is very much in a win-now situation and so I don't know what the connox could offer. I don't think that the connox should be interested in him either Just based on where they are in their cycle and that's our pole And Coots is not far away if Coots is two or three years away. You have to factor that Rossi's got term Patterson's got term Coots is on the way and the you know, I don't know what the connox are doing in the draft this year

14:37But they might take a centerman high as well. Yeah, absolutely We'll get to our poll question again. It surrounds your spary cuck in Niammi. We'll get to that in our third segment Also on the program at 11 o'clock our good pal Thomas Drantz will be on the program From the athletic and sports that 650 we got DTMZ and is it just me in the next hour? But up next as I mentioned from Richmond Friend of the program Troy Stetcher great guy one of the greatest local minor hockey products a good guy Just a really good guy in the dressing room and since he left Vancouver. They miss a lot of that glue guy stuff Yeah, no doubt no doubt so Troy Stetcher on the program next again the connox in Toronto to take on the Leafs tomorrow This is Donnie and Dolly the team on check Donnie and Dolly the team is supported by Abel auctions dot c a closing your business. So it was a little bit late here for Troy, but that's okay

16:43um First of well, okay, so the base side of us for resort inbox. You can get all your things that connects me to trade Our inbox is going crazy. You can text 604 294 94 email the team at checkmedia.ca That's our base side of us for resort inbox That's for is it just me in the next hour, but you can also text in regarding this debate We had in the first hour Donnie wall refusing to go to the dentist because he said everything feels fine Despite the fact that it's preventative your dentist you go to the dentist to get extra cleaning not You know when something is just hurting it's not my car tells me oil change coming up. You get an oil change Yes, I go to the doctor once a year, but dentists will I like them a be Nobody likes the dentist. No, I just I mean you have to do it. No There's a lot of references in the inbox by the way as well for you sign to sign film fans asking if Dollywall is an anti-dentite That is possible that is possible. I don't like them if I can stay away from my do Yeah, again everybody would want to stay away from me

17:44We also got one in here. I'm trying to find it because again We got a ton of submissions But we got a submission in here from a chiro do you have a Ricky the chiropractor and Langley? Yeah, the chiropractor. Here it is here. Here it is Dr. Danny and Langley I'm a chiropractor. So this is a chiropractor. Yes. I'm a chiropractor. I don't go to them either You know, okay, I've never had to I'm a chiropractor in Langley I have patients that like Dollywall only come in when they're in pain That's fine, but the analogy I use with them is you get your oil change like this Here your oil change every five to six Six thousand kilometers, so the engine continues to run smoothly. That's how you should view your health Yeah Like you say you go to the doctor. That's fine once a year. Yes, we have a meeting We sit down a one-on-one that poor doctor man. Let me tell you why rip into him if he It tells me what I don't like I bet I bet Let's set up Nina if you can the poll question for the first time today We were talking about the subject that it's based on in our opening segment It's the waddling dog poll question experience one of Victoria's iconic destination sleep sips doc up all in one legendary spot

18:47Come sit and stay at the dog today Rick all right Nina get her up the waddling dog a poll question should the connect straight for hurricane center? Yes, spirit cut Elliott Freeman reporting today. He's available. He's a guy the connox and the canes have talked about a lot since 2022 85% say no 15% say yes 605 votes already Posted a little late this morning, but he's a centerman What did what did Rick talk it say this week when they signed to borax centerman or gold? What did what did sannos a do they they overpaid to keep Wendberg a center If you have a centerman you are overpaying to keep these guys because centerman or gold is talk it said and they don't want They're centerman to hit July 1st Connox are not going to find a centerman on July 1st. Remember last year do Shane Connox wanted him on a Dallas bad. He was on top of their list. What did Dallas do? They resigned do Shane Getting centerman is one of the toughest things to do

19:47Connox had a whole slew of them. They had a whore vat. They had Miller. They had Lindholm. They're all gone. Yeah, and they didn't replace them And they're paying the price today as a hockey club look at their second line center last night. David camp Not a second line center. No And then there's a lot of people the lot of the replies in the inbox are about Or sorry to the tweet to the poll question on twitter are just I think people are just scared of of anything about trades right now with this team like why would you Scared that they sent out a memo saying our guys were available right but okay If you want to trade those guys for pictures for the future great But when we talk about adding players I think people are very nervous about this team Especially I'm sorry. Cuck in the Emmy's not a needle movie. You said to yourself, Rick. He's a bottom six guy They don't roll pair. I yes, but what is he now today? What is he now today? He is Carved himself out and also I mean Donnie brings his point up all the time. You also need to look the Carolina Hurricanes I wouldn't call them a favorite for the Stanley Cup myself because I think they got a proof to me that they can actually get there and do that

20:53But people would say they are one of the Stanley Cup favorite teams. Okay, so then why are they getting rid of him? Why they've been trying to get rid of him for years right and why is that because he's underperforming They're not Alex the third overall pick who is not playing like a third overall pick He should be your number one center right if you go third over on the NHL draft is a center Yes, he should be your number one Absolutely, but he hasn't panned out that he's a bit piece. Yes, and they've had him on the market They've tried to pedal him to Vancouver for years. Yeah. No, absolutely. I just again I worry if you and then the other thing is if you want to help out the Carolina If you want to buy that contract and maybe get some assets from them I know Thomas Francis talked about this a lot. I'm for that I they should be doing those sites sorts of things, but you bring this up to rake one of the biggest problems as bad as this team's been They've also been capped out. They haven't been able to do this With the help teams out And gain assets capped out with no draft capital. It's just a worse horrible one two thing you could have in the NHL And these guys have been for six years capped out no draft capital. Yeah, no absolutely

21:54One other thing we didn't talk about there is From last night's game. I mentioned it quickly Patrick Kane Ricky 500th goal. He's so fun to watch. It's unbelievable 47 points. I believe I have this right 47 points in 51 regular season games against the conducts Here's the goal you go 499 earlier in the game the 500th was an empty netter Which I know no player really wants their goal to be an empty netter But here was anyway the team You know Jumps off the bench It's Troy good to go Nina In a second. Okay, um he jumps off the bench there The funny thing is so Patrick Kane of course canuck killer Jonathan Taze Canuck killer one day they both have scored against the conducts this year in 2026 In 2025 how crazy is that but 500 goals for Patrick Kane still going strong 19th year in the NHL Free agent at the end of the year who knows what happens, but You're gonna look at his first goal the way he holds on to the puck. It's ridiculous He's got for my money some of the best hands the games ever seen and he holds on to the puck

22:54He makes plays and a lethal lethal shot. Okay. We're joined now by Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman From Richmond Troy's it's still weird to say Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman but Troy Stetcher canucks are in Toronto to take on the Leafs tomorrow Troy. Thanks for doing this. How are you? Good are you guys very good very good first of all Troy I want you to weigh in on a debate. We've been having so far on the show because I know you appreciate this Rick Dollywall my partner here He made the outlander statement. He hasn't been to the dentist and would you say six or seven years? Do you regularly go to the dentist Troy? Not as much as I should The dental assistant so she won't like that answer. Oh, there you go But please tell me it's not been like six or seven years like Rick is telling me No, my wife actually made me go a couple summers ago, but there you go Might have been up there with him if it wasn't perfect Right there and Troy had to be forced to go so you need more people forcing you to go to the dentist Ultimately, that's what needs to happen Okay, Troy. Thanks for doing this again as I mentioned Your team last night the Leafs they pull out an OT victory in for the Delphia

23:582-1 What did you think your teams game last night as they pull out that win? Yeah, it was good like Obviously things have been going well here the past Eight games, I guess with our record and Just seems like everybody's contributing last night was kind of Maybe one of those grunty games where there wasn't much happening and um We found a way to stay stay in it and then we found a way to win So it was a good team win and an important win for our group. I was gonna ask you about that Troy You just touched on it last eight to ten games really seems like the Leafs have turned turned a corner turn to page What what do you think's been the main reason for why you guys kind of be able to figure things out and get things on the rails a bit? Um, I don't know it's a good question I think part of it might be the injuries honestly Just feels like it's kind of that next man up mentality and everybody feels like they have a role and it feels like everybody's contributing so Every team win just feels like it's a team victory and we're not having to rely on

25:00one specific player obviously Austin's game has been elevated and he's been scoring a bunch which is huge for us But it does definitely feel like the whole group's been helping out Hey Troy you go from Edmonton to Toronto your average in 20 minutes a night Your teammates coaching staff all I hear every day is love the energy the passion the no fear It's been a good it's been a good move for you in terms of playing and getting regular shifts and all that stuff Troy Um Yes, so far it's obviously been going well Um, I'm not oblivious to that um at the same time I've been given a really good opportunity and Just trying to make the most of it so um more than anything just trying to stay true to myself and Just play my game and I feel like it's it's flourished here so far, but I've harped it on here and in the media they've been asking the same thing is There's no complacency, you know, like you're only as good as your last game. So you got to be able to turn the page and um

26:03You know get prepared and Continue to show up on a day-to-day basis. So um, it's a challenge, but I've enjoyed it You know what Troy? I look at the Eastern Conference standings and I it's unbelievable the parody Like it's just crazy every night, you know, the teams moving up teams moving down. Are you surprised at the parody this year? I'm not, but it is kind of unique to see the standings and the way they are especially here out in the east um But it's a lot of fun like every it just adds that much more important to every game obviously you played a win But um just understanding the situation that you're in Kind of magnifies your own division games to those become like a kind of a four-point game. I'm Your conference games are just as important in that regard to or you're stealing points for away from a team where they can't regain them. So um In the long run, I think it's definitely going to prepare a lot of the teams in the east for the playoffs Obviously just with how important the games are at this time of year

27:03Hey Troy all of our Ekman Larsen getting picked for team Sweden. He's been unreal this year Can you talk a little bit about Ekman Larsen? I mean, he's getting up there in age, but he's also performing well too Yeah, he's a heck of a player. I've been his partner in the past two games here and It's been a real joy to play with Umsel. He's a special player. He's achieved a lot in his career at The age he is like he's not that old for you to say that but 1100 games he just reached Olympics. So yeah I'm really happy for him and super well-deserved. He's having a heck of a year Troy since you left Vancouver you've bounced around a few teams, but here you are a UFA this year What's your desire to resign in Toronto? I haven't had any focus in that regard Asked me that question seven weeks ago. I didn't know where my career was gonna go You know, so I'm just taking it a day at a time and trying to survive this league and then With trying to survive obviously trying to thrive and and make an impact so

28:05For me, it's just a day-to-day basis, but I've loved my time here in Toronto so far and Hopefully there's a lot more good things to come Troy your your story's impressive, you know, we passed over in the NHL draft multiple times You were on waivers early this season as we mentioned. You've been in seven NHL stops Well, what would you say to you know, maybe either parents or young kids that are playing hockey right now and they've had Things maybe go upside down with the trade or this or that and they kind of don't know where things are going What would you say to them about you know, just staying with the road even though it might take left to right turns here and there Um I for me like my dad always harped on two things. There's like you can only control two things. It's your work ethic and your attitude And that's something I've tried to myself on and live by day-to-day as a professional athlete and With that I think um It's given me some probably some extra opportunity that maybe some other guys didn't get um And with that I've tried to make the most of it so um

29:09Yeah, just controlling your attitude controlling your work ethic and controlling the controllables At the end of the day things are going to happen that are out of your hands and it's how you face adversity. So Just stick with it. You we just mentioned Troy the the waiver situation The 24 hours between knowing you were on waivers to when you knowing where you were going How hard was that for you and for your wife for that matter Yeah, like the first couple hours is obviously difficult um And then you obviously have your conversations with your agent and he kind of reassured me like he Was pretty confident I was gonna get claimed so there wasn't that kind of the worry of going down the miners and Then it's just then it becomes the unknown of where you're gonna end up and um The next morning you obviously find out you hop on a plane You get there and you meet the team and you leave your family behind. So like you said it's tough on your wife We don't have kids. So it's tough for guys that do that go through that situation um

30:12For me honestly, it's not that difficult like the hockey world so small. I walk in the dressing room. There's Chris Tano um So you just kind of feel right right back at home. So um, it's a different situation for a player to family Hey, yeah, Troy you mentioned Chris Tano I still remember when you and Tanove and marks them and to fully all left that one July first What about Chris? It's surprising you end up on the same team with Tanove six years later Yeah, we also had to stand together in Calgary. Oh, yeah, that's right there. That's right. So yeah Um You one of my groomsman's this past summer at my wedding. So just a really really close friend Very thankful to be back with him and he's definitely made this transition to Toronto a lot easier It's still special for you to play against the conox Troy Yeah, there'll always be kind of that feeling um Where I started my career and being my hometown team and the team I was a fan. I was a kid. So definitely a little bit more extra motivation in that regard but

31:13Not too many familiar faces there anymore from my time there. Obviously best And PD and Demmer, but a lot of change, but yeah excited just to play my my childhood favorite team Well, we thank you for doing this today Troy and we I really hope I didn't get you in any trouble with your mom Now that you've admitted to the dentist. Well, she the dentist. You can't say anything Come on, but thanks for doing this today Troy all the best and I'm sure we'll talk to tack again soon Yeah, thanks for having me guys appreciate it. Troy Stetcher again weird to say defenseman of the Toronto Maple Leafs joining us And I I mentioned it there Rick, you know like looking at his Wikipedia last night in his story and And also the the the the the the way he talks and how positive he is despite all the twists and turns It's just more proof that you know I don't have a skill though. I still don't know why he left Vancouver. There's there's going to need to be a discussion But I will tell you one thing Connor McDavid Connor McDavid said one of the best teammates He's ever been with is Troy Stetcher in Edmonton and he was only there a short time

32:14This guy is all about passion enthusiasm team player good pro on and off the ice You just don't find guys like Troy Stetcher every day the week. You don't just a great story and there's the seven You know seven stops in the NHL. That's not an indictment on him You know what I mean? That's not because oh he hasn't been able to fit into the locker room not at all I I think that's that's actually an amazing thing. He's been able to do seven stops He's been able to last this thought and he didn't go in the bottom draft because he was too small right and he still made the NHL Yeah, so it for all you kids out there that don't go in the bottom draft It's not the end of the world. Keep plugging away and check out his story because it's a great one Up next, well, maybe talk a little bit more about the poll question You've got some a few other things to talk about if I'm in the Vancouver canox, including the fact that you reported something about a vandercane this morning It's it's a wildfire It's causing wildfire the bruff and rough took it the wrong way We'll continue to talk more about the dentist situation as well as the show goes on But this is Donnie and Donnie the team on check Avaloxion specializes in helping British Columbia-based business owners

33:18Close their business and sell their assets in a timely orderly manner online events for everything from machine shop and Manufacturing auctions to industrial equipment retail inventories or any other type of business assets Avaloxions can help for a free confidential consultation on getting your business assets sold Please email sales at avaloxions.ca. That's sales at AB LA auctions.ca Again the Bayside Ocean Front Resort inbox Continues to hop and pop about the dentist conversation Jim and Maple Ridge Dentists don't just deal with teeth. They look for gum disease as well That's another good point and all the people saying I got bad breath because I don't go to the dentist like I brushed twice a day. I floss every day Like I mean give me a break and I eat gum. Sugarless. That doesn't matter. Sugarless gum is good But that doesn't do anything really for your teeth. Yes, it does. Sugarless gum is good for you. Okay. Okay. Sure

34:19We had it. It is. I'm telling it is. It's good for you. I don't know about that. Sugarless gum. This sugar gum is not good We've gotten a lot of submissions amazing submissions about this. This one is amazing. Okay. This is unsigned At one point I didn't go to the dentist for over 15 years. There you go. Hold on During this time I maintained my oral health by brushing multiple times per day During this time I saw my childhood dentist at YVR I had a chat with him and he asked me if I brushed after every meal He looked in my mouth at the airport And told me I was good. There you go I now go for cleaning every year because I can afford it and everything is still good Okay for some first of all I don't know I did this check up at the airports a little weird to me. Okay. Why there's dentists at the airport too Yeah, but he I mean this is like Tim Watley at the at the guys apartment trying to find a dentist There's a time in a place But secondly, I don't necessarily know if that dentist was going on a flight. He's probably not paying a ton of attention to your teeth

35:22Anyway, and by the way, I got an email from HR check you did you should read that one reminding me That we have a benefit package To go see the dentist twice a year. Yes, it's a bit we have very good benefits here. Yes, you should be using them I can't believe why I just got a HR email from check Good people at check. Oh absolutely. They watch. They're watching. Yeah. Yeah, there you go. Absolutely. Let's get to the pole Forget the teeth. No, we already did the pole. No, we got to do the pole again. No, no, no Let's let's put the quid get her up. I was gonna call you read quid get her up the modeling dog pole question We did it in our previous segment. This is the segment. We usually do it in so we're gonna tie into to what we know Okay, yes, our modeling dog pole question should the connect straight for hurricane center? Yes, Barry a cock kick in the Emmy Ellie Freeman says today he is available and 85% say no over 700 votes 15% say yes It's a player the conox and the hurricanes have talked about for two to three years

36:22Even the summer where the conox got Ethan bear out of Carolina For that fifth round pick there was even discussions that summer about This player coming of Vancouver. So this is a player. Yes, Barry And like I said Trevor Lyndon and Jim Benning liked him a lot in his draft year as well But he has not been a difference maker at all at the NHL level He's a third overall pick in 2018. That's the draft the Quinn Hughes win in But he has not and I repeat not been a different speaker I don't know what the conox would be thinking if they brought him in he's a 40 to 50 point centerman at max I'll start with the conox as I mentioned five one loss last night in Detroit second game with the road trip They have one win in eight games now the conox do they are 31st in the national hockey league standings um We should mention this weekend the Abbott'sford conox are at home for two games against Calgary tonight or sorry tomorrow night Saturday and also on Sunday Sunday their theme Ricky is

37:24mystery night who's theme Abbott's first so what is mystery night. I don't know. It's a mystery Maybe they're getting their rings. I don't know. It's a mystery. Oh, no, no They've already said the mystery night is not to do with the ring So I don't know what it would be then and you know Quinn brought this up before the show Usually they'd have these theme nights like I think tomorrow night's actually flannel night So so you would wear a flannel shirt you get involved in the proceedings right a western night Whatever what the hell you supposed to wear for mystery night. Oh, it's a mystery night I don't get it like a Sherlock Holmes look I guess anyway But one of those players on Abbott'sford who's been out of the line up for a little bit is Jonathan the Caramack Rick what are you hearing on the Caramack? So the Caramack he's missed six games He practiced Monday and yesterday he's getting closer wouldn't surprise me if he plays this weekend If the conax move a bunch of wingers in the next few weeks a spots are going to open up for the Caramack He's got to get going. He's got to get healthy start playing producing and playing the right way in Abbott'sford to get called back up to Vancouver Yeah, and I mean the the second he's healthy He should be up with his team because I mean right right right he's down there for a reason for development

38:29They sure they still want him to play the right way. They I get to see things in his game that are not LH NHL caliber But time is also ticking with this guy. It's not ticking. He's 21 years old. Yeah, I know Rick. There's guys that are peeking at 23 24 25 right, but you made this point this morning with breath and rough They're 31st If he's not cracking this 31st love like if you want to say he's there because of development fine But if he's not taking a spot right now when is he going to? If you can't make the connox that's what I mean 31st overall when are you going to make the connox but he's got to get down there He's got to get healthy. He's got to produce. He's got to play well without the puck He said some injury issues. I take some good time down there with Manny Sedine twins that coaching staff will help him. Yeah, but he's got to get going. There's no question about it One guy that was very angry last night. He was very noticeable, but angry at the bench after a missed chance You got that was was key for sure, but you know, I like this. I like this video Can you go to go to the stanchion on Twitter? Why it aren't our good pal

39:30He's got the video of key for sure with last night on the bench. He got back to the bench Slam and I like this. It's a guy punch in the wall. It's a guy who cares. It's a guy who hustles It's a one of the hardest with him and garlander the two hardest working forward. It's not even close Keep for sure and sure what's doing everything Goals hits shots on goal power play penalty killing He's doing everything. I mean the guy is doing his part to get the connox a very good return In a trade down the road if they so choose to go down that route We got it. We can show you know, I think I gave Quinn bad information because it's not on why it's Well, why are you giving Quinn bad information? So I don't want because I see a million things and I thought I saw it last night I had that the Sherwood why did you send it to me? No, I sent that I sent it to someone but not me that's good And by the way, I'm sure what I want to get this yeah, yeah, give me the update on the connox better get going on Sherwood and I'll tell you why because The market for Sherwood's gonna dwindle

40:32He's the shiny toy right now because there's not many UFA's out there because of the parity in the NHL Not teams are not many teams are selling connox are one of very few But other UFA's are going to enter the trade market in the coming weeks And that will hurt the Sherwood market Bobby McCann and Toronto if they can't sign him McMahon McMahon same age same stats all that stop but boy oh boy He's 6 2 2 17 if if if a McMahon hits the market and Sherwood's still on the market There's going to be a ton of teams after McMahon and the right now there's not much competition for Sherwood That's why there's so many teams after him But if the connox wait too long the Ryan they could possibly hurt him down the road On the return they get because in the coming weeks there's going to be more more UFA's in the market right now There's not ultimately they're waiting for a first round pick right sure they are yeah, but But you know like like I said there's not many UFA's on the market forwards So that's why there's so many teams in on Sherwood right now I'm curious if you could get like could you expand this I heard Thomas grants

41:36You know outlining a situation could you could you could you make this thing bigger could you could you buy a bad contract that maybe gets you that first round pick You know and because you could you instead of just take a first round pick for key for Sherwood Could you expand this thing to a bigger said bigger Package that could get you that first round pick with doing some other things. I'm not sure, but that's what I wonder Teams love Sherwood. He's he's playing really well. He's playing light. So yeah his salary can be fitted into anyone's Right now it's all the winning teams love Sherwood because of his 1.5 million dollar contract. It's easily Can be put into anyone's cap. Absolutely One other thing from this morning You set the market on fire because you reported I did I did not either is not just this Rough and rough guys all I said was a couple of people told me this week that the monarchs Trying to pedal event or came back to Edmonton which is not a shock. I'm still trying to get it confirmed one source told me that Him back in Edmonton that ship is sailed that ship is sailed

42:39They don't have much cap space and they're also I think on the verge of signing Rosalovic so I don't see it but look at Keynes Contract look at his lack of production look at his age look at the wear and tear on his long career No trade he's got trade protection. I'm not saying they can't trade Kane but I'm saying it's gonna be tough It's gonna be tough and maybe and what's the big deal if they did call Edmonton You got to call everybody to see if there's interest Common sense tells you if you're having trouble moving them Why not call Edmonton? Hey, you got any interest in resigning him. It's not a big deal But the brough on brough and rough starts laughing and he starts He thought it was a funny pretty ridiculous. It's not ridiculous. It is ridiculous. They're doing their homework Okay, Edmonton, you know, they can't okay. When did they send out the memo? Long time ago. That feels like years ago at this point So they haven't moved anyone since the memo. Yeah, you know, you call everybody and anybody and you say Hey, is he you think there's interest there you go. I think frustration by the way is growing with the fan base about that what that there

43:41Yet to be any trade and again, I moved out from here and I just said it They're the only team in the NHL well one of the very few that's got a ton of players available But when other teams get in there and start making players available Right, they better start making moves or it's gonna be tougher down the road because you just brought up the parity thing There is a lot of parity So there's teams that are holding on to their players. There's no reason for the Vancouver conucks to be holding on to their players Calgary might be very soon Anderson on defense might be a sound as well, right? Audrey Coleman. Yes, Calgary's gonna start yeah moving and shaking soon So the conucks and all what if you wait too long some sometimes a bite in the ass. Yeah, no no no doubt no doubt Okay, let's talk about our good pals Jeremy and everyone at able auctions our title sponsor of this program. Oh great guy The Abel's busy by the way January. 46:53Stan Makita Wayne Gretzky Joe Sackick Patrick Marlow Steven Stancos and now Patrick Kane they add on here no opponent in history has allowed more players to score their 500th career goal Then the connox and the Gretzky one was in LA. Yeah, yeah, and I think it was on Kurt McLean No one will ever forget that goal But yeah, yeah, they're coughing up 500th goal to a lot of players and that's one heck of a list Like who says they don't win anything. Look at this is a marquee thing You've been part of history for other players. That's good right Anyway, Kane is fun to watch the way he holds onto the ball. Yeah absolutely and the longevity I forgot he had hip surgery comes back after that still playing Again, is the UFA will see what happens, but there you go. No team in NHL history is giving up more goals A more 500th career goals in the NHL than the Vancouver connox Okay, we got some other stuff to get to here the Canada I'm a little surprised by this the Canadian World Cup jerseys wreck rick soccer soccer. Yeah

47:582026. We're now in 2026. We're in the year of the World Cup. Yeah The World Cup jerseys haven't been released yet Which I would have assumed would have been a pre-Christmas thing You know a lot of people looking ahead needing Christmas gifts I would have thought it would have been done then but it has not been done yet Nike is their supplier Ben Steiner who's been on the program before posting on his blue sky account a photo Of the two leaked uniforms. So you see them there. There they are the he points out 2026 World Cup kids have been leaked I believe footy headlines is the account that actually shared these renderings He also points out there's a going to be a black third jersey that we don't see I know I know I know we know our thoughts on that they played the one game in Edmonton It black yeah in black, which did not look good. I you love the red. Yeah Canada's red I believe in there not a huge fan of the white one the white gray gray. Yeah Very interesting the red one looks very nice. Yeah, I mean they don't pop

48:59Like they're very they're very subtle Like they and maybe I'm just maybe it's because I got the trucker uniforms don't They don't have a massive crest or something like like a hockey jersey. Yeah, jerseys are totally different But this is the red ones are good. They're pretty clean pretty clean. It's very clean So again, I'm not sure when these are going to be officially announced I would expect soon if we're getting a leak like this But there they are there the two jerseys Canada will be wearing Uh, home in a way at the world cup. The wager's he is the white one by the way the home jersey is the red one So there you go. That's courtesy Ben Steiner on his blue sky cat one final thing. I wanted to get to yep Okay, this is from Monday, but I've been holding on to it. I haven't been able to get to it I want to get to it because I talk about this a lot. We talked about it yesterday The Kanox not doing giveaways, you know, they don't do bobblehead nights. They don't do whatever Check out what the Washington capitals were giving away Monday night This is a tweet is from Zach Leonsis. Of course his dad owns the team. Zach's also part of the organization And this ties into what we're talking about dentist

49:59He tweets out your dentist favorite fan giveaway ever caps fans behold the Alex Ovechkin Floss holder. Where's the floss? The floss is so you see how he's got the the tooth that's missing right like what he does Right the floss goes in there and comes out the tooth. Well, how would you put the floss in? Well, I'm sure his head must unscrew or something and you put the floss in there. That's a floss it's a floss dispenser I've seen a lot of fun giveaways around sports. I've never seen something about that. That is crazy It's very very creative that they would do that and give away a floss holder. Why? For fans who wants that? Well, I mean again, it's kitschy. It's fun. It's spooky. I like do you want I would just I wouldn't put the floss in I just put it up on You wouldn't you're right. It looks like a bubble. It does kind of look like a bubble. I don't care about the floss But it looks like a bubble. Yeah, they had Alex to do a demonstration video where he's pulling out the floss and everything It was a lot of fun, but like I say I've seen a lot of giveaways I've never seen a floss dispenser floss holder. Wow giving away to fans like the Washington Capitol

51:02Great. What do you think of this? It's very impressive as a young kid Well, that's what I was about. Say it because if you're a kid, you know Kids don't want this. No, no, you don't want a floss, but this will probably help you See no, but the kids don't want a floss. No, but Quinn's like this. You're a parent. Yeah. Yeah, they end up flossing. Yes. Good idea Yeah, you can your kids favorite players of edgekin look at he flosses. You should do older people wouldn't Want this? Well, it's not for older people. Yeah, I you go to the dentist right Quinn. Yeah twice a year see what twice a year Oh, your dad's got a good package Okay, careful It's got a dental good pack. Yeah, there it is dental pack. Yeah, there it is Sorry about that, but listen your dad's got a good dental package. That's why you go twice a year One Donnie's talked about before. His dentist is also dentists to map barzelle map barzelle's dentist We had a photo of his dentist. Not not my dentist though. Oh, that's nice. He's a map barzelle's dentist. No He goes to somewhere else, but anyway, there you go Alex of edgekin floss holder. I'm sure you can find one on eBay if you'd like to pick one up

52:03Up next there's second hour final hour of the week on the program We're going to be joined by Thomas trans little later than normal, but Thomas trans from the athletic and sports at 650 Our reminder to this hour coming up as well DTM Z and is it just me get those submissions in to be part of our Is it just me segment coming up around 11 35 11 40 or so that going into the base side ocean front resorting box You just heard from Quintaylor. I'm Ryan Henderson. That's Rick Dollywall. This is Donnie Dolly the team on check Hey, everyone. It's Donnie and Dolly and we're looking to partner with your company We have several packages and price points to fit your budget and spread the word about your company on the show in our podcast and on social media We'd love to get involved with your company called 250 880 2282 or email advertise at checkmedia.ca Show rolls on second hour all of our guests today Brought to you by our friends at the Whistler Golf Club Big Al up there

53:03We'll have more on them in DTM Z but a reminder follow them on Instagram to continue to follow their progress Of their golf course renovation that's going to get back underway in April we bring in now our good pal from the athletic and sports net 650 Thomas trans for the first time in 2026 on this program Thomas. Thanks for doing this today. How are you sir? Gentlemen, I'm doing well. Thanks for having me. Okay. Okay. Uh, we gonna yeah, we we've got you We're just there we go. We're just fixing something video wise. There we go. We're good now perfect. Um, hey So we I want to first of all want to ask you something. Oh stop it. Yes. We go. I have to ask him I know he's gonna say but I'm gonna ask him anyway. We've been having this great debate on the show so far today Thomas Dollywall says he hasn't been to the dentist in six or seven years Ah, you should go to the dentist man. Do you floss? He says I floss. Yeah. Yeah. Do you regularly do you regularly go to the dentist? I was at the dentist yesterday. I went before I went on this road trip. That's good for you

54:07Yeah, I mean, I uh, I literally was there yesterday. No, you know what? I don't get just go get a cleaning every year man And and get checked out make sure you don't like what you want to avoid is having a deep cavity that this causes you to need a root canal Like that's all you're trying to avoid. You just don't want something that's painful. He claims he feels fine. So why do I go? Well, because there's stuff that You know There's stuff especially when it comes to like nerve endings that cause pain in the mouth There's stuff that can be slowly decaying. Yes, and eventually it's an absence And then you need like the sort of process that really sucks as opposed to just a filling. No, I mean, yeah I guarantee you have benefits man. Go to the dentist. He does I know what are your dentists? I want all this talk like I mean today, you know what? There's a lot of people support me. There's not many supporting him that I put a lot of people support me A lot of people watching cook games right now. It's like going to the dentist. That's how painful it is You that's segue segue they lose five one they lose five one last night Detroit coming off a loss in Buffalo

55:11I think the people would say they're slightly better last night, but I want to ask you say I've heard you've been saying this at 650 obviously the results They didn't hide out don't really matter and that's your tank is do you want to see them lose every game So what are you looking for Thomas when you watch a connect game right now like what do you Watching for because again the result doesn't matter really one way or another. What are you watching for Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm watching for so there's a couple different ways to friend this first of all In the year 2026 the last four games the connects have yet to have a lead for even a second They're the only team in 2026 that hasn't led for for a single second in any of their games They've led for eight minutes Eight minutes in their last eight games Which which dates back to um, you know the like I guess the the Christmas break really right so It's it's been rough. I mean, it's been rough to watch. I think you're looking for moments where

56:12Are Players show you something something that might matter and that's what I'm watching for anyway You know, I'm looking for flashes of high-end offensive instincts from Zibuyum. I'm You know looking to see like the the valander play in the first period against the Buffalo Sabers where he attacked downhill And found Jake de brusque with a pretty nice pass into the slot. You know, I'm looking for skill plays like that that Linus Carlson protecting the puck down low like can he play up lineup Liam Ogren little flashes um But you know that the truth is is that this is an overmatched team that's overmatched every night most games They come into the rink and they don't have the best player on the ice They don't have the second best player on the ice and often they don't have the third player on the ice Tomorrow in Toronto you you can probably name four players before you get to filiparonic and Vancouver's best And that's you know the maple leaf steam that's gonna struggle to make the playoffs. We're talking about like that

57:13That's where we're at and this is sort of why To you know, I don't think we should be doing me like make a trade now. Why aren't they making a trade? Why sure would still here like you know open auctions take time to resolve Uh Jim Rutherford Patrick Alvin, you know, I'm not interested in backseat driving on like the timeline as they hold open auctions We're not party to those negotiations. We get drips and drabs of information like Maximizing the value of your vets You know, that's that's the sort of thing that I think you got to wait and let play out and be patient about But this is why sort of the idea of like retooling in a hybrid state right which was said After the first intermission when the connects that we're coming off of Four consecutive wins following the Quinn Hughes trade right sort of muddy the water I heard your program talking about mixed messaging a bit Uh this week Rick and You know, I think this is the issue. It's like yeah The way that this team is losing if it were part of the plan

58:16Would feel great right like if it was part of a sequence of rebuilding moves or a commitment to looking to the future or Uh an organizational direction that had been expressed with clarity Then I think we could more easily swallow it and see it as part of a bigger picture effort to restock this organization and turn the page to sort of build a new era of kinex hockey but when you trade your franchise player right and Declare sort of wanting to turn it around quickly a mixed messages hybrid retool that confused everybody I think and then Lose like this it in some ways it makes the losing feel less meaningful It makes the losing harder to take It's like there's no spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down as we watch this kinex team Really struggle not not just to win games, but but even stay in them And they got to be careful with Sherwood Thomas uh because in the coming weeks there's going to be more uf a forwards on the market

59:18There's not many now because of the parity in the NHL teams still think they're going to make playoffs But at some point You're going to see a lot of uf a forwards and they better get going or that market for Sherwood is going to shrink Yeah, I'm not too worried about that Generally speaking just because I do view Sherwood rick is such a unique asset the 1.5 the grit the goal scoring right? I mean No, those are three hugely important things every single team can fit this guy onto their roster Every single team likes goal scoring wingers and every single team likes wingers that hit everything that move now Teams don't like parting with first round picks for wingers, especially middle six wingers. That's also true But you know that there should be enough Weapons in Vancouver's quiver whether they're retaining money whether they're taking back bad money whether they're including a mid-round pick bundling Sherwood with that pick whether they're bundling a center. I mean Vancouver has a couple of depth

1:00:22Uh defensive centers in camp and blugar both of whom are also inexpensive right whether you bundle a player like that I mean I do think that it's it's an important test for this management group to find a way to get a first round pick for keeper Sherwood The the value gap shouldn't be that significant. I mean Mason Marchman went for a second and a fourth Right before the holiday freeze I would look at Sherwood as being clearly more valuable than that given his speed given his production Given his contract costs a third of what Marchman does so that and that means more teams can be in the auction process driving up the price You know, so I'd see a second and a fourth is kind of the floor of Sherwood's value and it's incumbent On Patrick, Alvin and Gibraltarford in my mind anyway to find ways to juice that return creatively And and find a way to get a first round pick or equivalent value back for Sherwood even if it hasn't been offered yet Even if it's slightly outside of what teams would feel comfortable offering You'd have to think the canucks have enough tools at their disposal to get that return juiced up to be a real home run

1:01:25This isn't a roster with a lot of straightforward trade value on it Sherwood's kind of the last train out of town and this organization man they'd better be on that train when it leaves the Few weeks ago this team was scoring in bunches and now they're having trouble scoring and Brock Besser no goals in 18 games Whole Glander has come back no points in 10 games They got some wingers that have gone absolutely dry You're not wrong. I mean, even some of the guys that are scoring like Jake Debrusk It's all on the power play. There's nothing at five on five that's it Four four five on five goals across the last four games and look I mean this team has struggled massively to generate shots all season I think when they have been able I mean Honestly think about all the canucks goals that you've seen where the other team Has the puck 150 feet away from the canucks net where that's been an awful lot of where the game has been played

1:02:26And then the canucks get the goal off of like those counter attacking sequences like those drew a corner or keeper Sherwood Rush wrist shots Right where where they're counter attacking across a hundred feet of ice and it's like a lot of the canucks goals Look like that because the other team has the puck 65% of the game And so when the canucks get a chance to attack you know, they're often doing it with a ton of runway They just don't have the puck enough like they don't have the puck enough to threaten And and I thought that really was a noticeable factor shaping the game against Detroit and against Buffalo like this week Especially I think you felt it where the other team is just set up In Vancouver's end for long segments of the game You know, if if that's how you're playing then you're really reliant on A variety of offense You know rush finishing offense that it is hard to replicate. It's hard to Eat out on it's sort of the sort of thing that comes and goes and then sometimes is outside of a team's control It's not a staple part of your diet and that's

1:03:26Kind of where the canucks are. I mean, I don't know I don't know that the goal scoring that we saw early in the year was indicative I think this dry patch is more indicative of where their true talent level is at I don't think there's any standalone offensive drivers This should have probably been the expectation Given how essential Quinn Hughes was to what Vancouver was doing attacking And you know, and I know it got frustrating toward the end of Hughes's tenure where he was so puck dominant And the canucks attack felt heliocentric right that felt like um Like a Kobe Bryant like career Kobe Bryant in terms of the efficiency of some of those shots and looks but Quinn Hughes was always their best bet to Open up a defense and without him They just don't have any star game breaking level talents and you're seeing it in terms of the consistency with which they manufacture looks And score goals especially five on five because you know I would say at least the power play is look pretty dynamic whether it's been scoring or not They've been snapping the puck around pretty well Thomas Drantz an expert on the canucks and an expert on dental hygiene as well. He does it all on this program

1:04:30Week in and weekend because you went to heart. He went to Harvard. He's smart. We're all dummies Don't went to NWS S in US I had you went to U of T and I'm I'm in Toronto now. Oh, we'll be with the canucks for the rest of this road trip So the Harvard of the North we look forward to your continued coverage on the road trip Thomas. Thanks for this We'll talk to you next week boys Thomas Drantz from the athletic and sports that 650 in the big smoke in the six in your second home Toronto Toronto at least that you love and so much and by the way that that's a big game anytime they play Hockey night four o'clock tomorrow canucks in Toronto. It's always good. I saw this. I think I got a double check it Rick They haven't the Leafs haven't beat the canucks since 2022 or 2023. It's been a while. They canucks have had their number Which is crazy that the canucks would have the number of any team But apparently they do of the Maple Leafs up next we will revisit our Waddling dog poll question. It's also a significant day Over in Italy and we'll tell you why next. It's Donnie Dolly the team. I check

1:05:35Donnie and Dolly the team is supported by Ableonctions dot CA closing your business we can help Time now to touch on air Waddling dog poll question experience one of Victoria's iconic destination sleep sip stock up all in one legendary spot Come sit and stay at the dog today, Rick. Go ahead and get her up the Waddling dog poll question man It is should the canucks trade for hurricane center. Yes, very Cockock and the Emmy Elliott Freeman reports today is available out of Carolina and 86% of Vancouver or The voters say no They don't want him but 15% do say yes 925 votes is starting to hop and pop on a Friday morning The canucks have been talking about this player for three years now And when Patterson was close to being traded for netches He was going to be a part of the deal

1:06:35So this player and Vancouver has been connected for since 2022 And it's been this regime Mostly although the regime in his draft year was bending in linden. They really liked him a lot But they took Quinn Hughes at seventh overall. He went third overall the Carolina Um, but he just or I'm sorry to match y'all But he just hasn't been an impactful top six center. He's been basically a bottom six centers entire career Yeah, and I mean, I don't see the fit in Vancouver. I I Unless you find out what would be going the other way But I don't see the fit in Vancouver. He's a 40 to 50 point centerman. They have that with Rossi Yeah, I they got a 60 to 70 point guy now with Patterson I don't know what uh, uh, how he would fit on the canucks roster Again, if it's part of some larger deal that well, that's it alias Patterson or some darland or someone right Like that then maybe because I mean he's got a decent cap it four years left 4.82 million So they're trying to move off that they understand the couple window. They're trying to add pieces

1:07:38But again, you know, you see that Number in the bottom left there 33 that's 33 responses to this poll question written replies And a lot of them are talking about being scared about adding players No more trades for players, but he just fit out players. He does fit in one area Disregime once guys 25 and under he's 25 Yeah, they wanted that that that that it quinn that that's the truth. Yeah, they don't want guys 29 30 31 32 Yeah, if you why do you think they went after born by them so hard 24 Did you see born by him last night? Yeah, did you see him go close to coast in New York last night? Did you see? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's gonna be He's gonna be 26 Cogni amies, but he's 25 I get it, but he fits their profile for age Yeah for a few more months and then yeah, okay, but he's 25. He's gonna be turning 26, but he's young They don't want guys 28 29 30. Yeah, no, I understand that if you can get a younger guy I think they'll definitely be in all all young guys. I mentioned today is a significant day in Milan right Italy

1:08:45In fact, it's a significant right now as a matter of fact the first hockey game Is being played inside hockey arena one That's the title in Italy. Yeah of the main Olympic rink. This is a video shot this morning Of the ring so we had that one we showed before Christmas break It looked like construction zone zone still look not ready at all But this is from today ahead of them playing games at this facility for the first time Again right now in the end zone as seek configuration is weird Yeah, not to have to be higher in the back It doesn't you know, I we will see how many rinks do they have in Italy for hockey? So they've got two So this is the this is the main one. This is going to be the main one that they have You're ready to go Well ready-ish you mentioned rick the the capacity it was supposed to be 14,000 seats Yeah, then you it's going to be projected now at 11,000 in 800 that's not good

1:09:50You got the Olympics gold medal game and you won 11,000. I know well same assault lake city It wasn't very big, but I mean these you know you want 16 17 18,000 But this is you could tell with the configuration of the end zone. This is not good And the concern still is the big concern now that they got they realize that hockey's big at the Olympics Yeah, but I mean, I here's the thing that I'm wondering about with the capacity I obviously don't know this but a lot of these venues now built for the Olympics. You're looking at what okay Yep, you need them for the Olympics obviously, but then what's the lasting legacy Right, so do they need a 20,000 seat building in Milan? I don't know that they do I I could be wrong. Maybe they could be fill it up So is this more useful after the games for them For whatever use they're going to use it for there is a pro league in Italy. Yeah So is this a lot of Canadian born players end up in Italy playing hockey as well But I mean did they ever think that Canada and the US might be in the gold medal game and the ratings would be huge in both countries

1:10:53like look at the numbers for the four nations huge Yeah, but I mean that doesn't matter to the attendant, but it's the overall thing I mean, yeah, it's the it's if Canada U.S. says USA is in the final you want 16 18 19 20,000 people in that building? No, you're right so the The men's Olympic tournament trying to find when that starts I believe it starts on the sixth if I have that correct um In in Milan In yeah, February the 6th. No, I was wrong February the 11th is the first games That's what I thought in in Milan for for the for the Olympics So they still have a little over a month before it gets underway We're now under a month to the opening ceremony some interesting things 2014 in Sochi the That building was done a year in advance that arena was done a year in advance. This is a month in advance Also, the one thing that's not going to be done. They said it's not happening. It's the locker rooms So the locker rooms are going to be mobile trailers That these guys are changing and getting set up to play. It's going to be a set up similar to Arizona

1:11:58So they're going to have to walk from these trailers Into the building and then play the game I don't like it did they take it seriously when they're planning the hockey at the Olympics Well, the thing is too is like I mean you you won this bid what eight years ago like 2010 They did that thing was awarded eight years in advance How are you cutting it this close? I don't understand at all and as much as I Absolutely want to see Olympic hockey all the time It sucks that it's taken this long for it to be back This is the stuff that I understand where the NHL is coming from because it's out of your hands Right, this isn't your thing. It's you turn it over the IOC But they have a big the NHL has got a big say then they don't have much of a say in television times They don't have much they don't have much But and now and then there's one of the things that they that was part of the agreement is a was a luxury suite That's not going to be happening anymore like for the NHL. I'm assuming for their sponsors and stuff That's not happening for the NHL anymore Like again, I understand where betman and daily are coming from sometimes with this if this is a legitimate safety concern

1:13:05Like we'll see how this thing holds up. They're going to have three games a day here How is the ice going to hold up? We don't know that because this is the first game being played right now Very interesting stuff and Emily Kaplan by the way Vsbn had a long form piece on this and what she's hearing about it So if you want to check that out you can do so Again the first game my underway right now at that men's Olympic facility You've got business for our friends at pastime sports and I'm just going to get this out of the way right now I forgot to change everything so still the same you forgot to change the read is fine in front of your laptop Oh, you mean the laptop's the same okay bc's number one sports memorabilia and gaming shop is pastime sports check out the largest selection Sports memorabilia autographed items trading cards and collectible games in western Canada. Yeah, there's Ocho Cinco And he's the one guy that said that the CFL is a whole lot tougher than Americans think he said that a few times Yeah, he's been a few clips on the NFL. Yeah, he praises the CFL and says, you know what? Yeah, all these Americans think it's not a good league. It's a good league and a lot of talent up there And go ask Johnny Mangel. Oh, and okay. I'm sorry It's now time for is it just me all of our submissions of course going into our Bayside ocean front resort inbox It's hard to get some is it just me these because there's all this stuff 500 about dentists and

1:22:32Issues with the dentist this from chef's wager from house kitchen Is it just me or would Rick have thrown out the Washington capital's flops flos holder like he did with his Alice Cooper bubble And I got it in Phoenix. That's very true. I'm not into that stuff These you don't like collectibles. I don't like. What am I going to do with collectibles? That's kid's stuff. You displayed them No, it's kid stuff. It's kid stuff Woodrow the eligible bachelor Great interview with Troy Stetcher connects made a huge mistake not claiming them off a waivers this season Well, I'm not so sure about that because you know, they're loaded on the right side They got Mancini down in abyss where they can't even get them up You know because the right side is so strong of Vancouver But it would be tough to get Troy, but I will say And when he left Vancouver it wasn't good. Those are the type of guys in the dressing room you 100% need Um, this is from Chris from Victoria This is is it just me or is the worst trade of this management group the Marcus Patterson one I look back on the first round pick plus braiding coutes and it would have been a good start to the rebuild that's Chris from Victoria

1:23:39There's been a lot of heat on Marcus Patterson This season I don't know what's with the change from he was pretty steady when they brought him in last year This year it's not been that way and The fact that they you know tossed out that first round pick to bring him in here Immediately signed that contract for us. Well, they signed him to an extension of wheat Yeah, and I can't it just doesn't jive with Rutherford saying that you know, they've been He eats up minutes if he's not there Ryan who's eaten up those minutes Yeah, I mean, but a first round pick Ray had two glaring holes in the top four, right? And they addressed them. Yep, and sadly with the whore button Miller trade. Yeah, and But Marcus Patterson for a first round pick now they got a huge holes at center. I know because they never got a set I know for Miller and Horbeck. It just seems like a steep price the more and more you look back at it Is it just me, but why are the conucks taken so long to name Garland is the captain his leadership qualities engaging personality with his team

1:24:40It's obvious Burnaby Paul We haven't heard too much about them name in a captain. Maybe that's something they do after this season Ryan I don't know that a captain is on this team Right now I don't know that there's a player that I can look at to go that should be like the captain is a big That's a big thing to give to someone. It's a leader. It's he sets the 10 right for culture and work at the bond and offer He's a good pro A captain's have a big responsibility and a sadly another responsibility is dealing with media in a Canadian market So there's a lot of things to play to before you pick a captain. This is unsigned. I wish it was signed This is a dentist story. I once didn't go to the dentist for four years from the ages of 17 to 21 Nothing hurt. Then I went in had three root canals and it cost me a fortune Now I go at least one time a year. See that person there is bang on you saying oh nothing fuse

1:25:40I don't feel anything. I feel great. I'd my teeth feel great. I got good breath. I brush my face. I don't know about that I got to floss every day. Yeah until something happens. I'm not going to see those guys Erick's a right absolutely correct about soft apples. I eat a soft apple I eat a soft apple a day and the softer the apple the harder it was to absorb the nutrients into your body Bill and Coquitlamon with you Hard apples. They got to be crunchy. They got to be hard. What type of apple do you eat? Huh? What's your favorite? What do you think? Who cares an apple is an apple? No An apple is an apple. Yeah, I just go pick the hardest one. It does save on. Oh, do you do a granny Smith ever? A Macintosh or what's the other granny Smith? No, I'm not granny Smith. What's that? Macintosh is a good apple No, Ambrosia. Ambrosia. That's the one. They're big. They're strong They're thick. They're also absolutely hard. Yeah, that's the Ambrosia's apples. Those are the best apples Yeah, Bill's right. Those soft apples are yeah, right. Don't get a weird name

1:26:43There's like a million new apples of cosmic apples all these different apples. Yeah, I know. It's crazy Eric in new west. Is it just me or were the only highlight of this connox season be the four wins in a row They had right after the huge trade. Yeah, I mean Eric you might not be wrong. They did they why I think they won Also, the bouyum start and the emogran and oh look at this and Everything's just kind of slid back to reality since that time since those four wins and I think there was a jolt of energy in there. You know these new players. They finally got out from the huge thing And then but now I think the same things happening again. I think players are probably still waiting for a plan waiting for another shoe Waiting for all these things. Just in limbo again. Well sure would there were everyone's waiting for the show although last week They tried to sign them. Yeah, like the connox effort last night. No finishers past time to sit best throughout For more than one game Don D in the NIMO Brock Besser struggling right now. No goals in 17 games. Yeah, it's tough. It's really tough

1:27:45You're being paid seven million plus a year to score right and when you're in a Canadian market You know it's scoring you're making seven million. You're gonna hear about it. Well, you and you said this Rick. I mean with with with with Brock Besser like When you open the door by scratching Jake de brusque to me that opened the door to all these other guys Besser came whatever you know all these guys and we've yet to see another scratch of a player like that It's just been Jake de brusk Well, there's gonna be scratches coming because he'll and blue girl are coming back in the lineup And it's gonna force some things. Yeah, they're gonna have to send some guys to Abby and they're gonna have to start sitting guys Okay, final segment of the week is upon us will wrap up the poll question deal with a few photos we have as well That is ahead in our final segment as they mentioned.
