There's just one point out of first place held down as we speak by the Tampa Bay Lightning. And then there's this.

2:02The Grand Rapids Riffons. Our friend Jeff Patterson tweeted this out last night. Detroit's Farm Club in the American Hockey League. And you're fascinated with things that happen in the Hockey League. 29 wins, one regulation loss in 32 games for the Grand Rapids Griffin. So some real positive things happening with the fabled Red Wings franchise. Despite the fact they haven't made the playoffs in nine years. And remember, Rick, that's a, and they haven't won a playoffs series since 2013. There was a 25 year run there of the Red Wings making the playoffs and forced Stanley Cups. Maybe this rebuild, Donnie, the R word is working now for the Red Wings and the young pieces are coming together. Not only at the NHL level, but the American Hockey League level as well. Oh, my, I think the rebuild's working, Donnie. And yet in the past when I've popped, you get upset. I do get upset because the owners here in the management don't want to rebuild. So I have to tell you that I don't see it happening here.

3:04It'd be interesting to find out if people would accept numbers like that. Like nine years not making the playoffs. Oh, that's it. And things are looking pretty good right now for the Red Wings, but it took a while. It did take a long time. And it's taking a really long time at Buffalo. There's also the Eastern Conference, which isn't super strong. They don't have a powerful team in the East. Everyone's bunched together. The team that is six in the East is only two points out of first. All the top teams, the top three teams in the NHL and the West. So that's helping a lot of teams in the East to stay in the race. Meanwhile, I'll be surprised tonight. I'm not telling Steve Eisman and Company how to do things, but I will be surprised tonight if there's not some sort of pre-game tribute or some sort of tribute at any point during the evening in Detroit for Glen Hall, who has left us yesterday at the age of 94, passing away in Alberta, a native of Humboldt's Saskatchewan. How good was he? They called him Mr. Goli.

4:05They were Mr. Goli. And in Red Wings, you know, from I think most people of my age remember him as a member of the Blackhawks. But he, Mr. Goli, starting out with the Detroit Red Wings, he want to call their trophy for the Red Wings back. I believe it was 1956. Yeah, 1956 with the Red Wings. And I wasn't aware of this. He moved on to the Blackhawks in the infamous trade. There's that word again, Ryan infamous in the trade that San Ted Lindsay from Chicago to Detroit. Probably from Detroit to Chicago. The Red Wings had had enough of Ted Lindsay and he was the one who was so instrumental in forming the NHLPA, getting the players together to try to get better contracts. So they lumped Glen Hall in there with Ted Lindsay and off those two went to Chicago. And in the case of Glen Hall, some legendary moments with the Blackhawks, they want to Stanley Cup in 61 with Glen. Played before the mask was invented.

5:07502 consecutive starts, a record that will never ever be broken. Because the most consecutive games of Goli in the NHL played last year was 11 by Schisturk and in New York. Many, many years ago, he was one of the best there ever was. Was he not the Goli in the Bobby York? Yeah, he was the Goli in the Bobby York. If you look at that picture, I don't know if we have it here. The famous Bobby York goal when he's flying through the air. Fly through the air 1970. 1970, it was Glen Hall who was in that for St. Louis. Not his best moment. Not his best moment, but he is the goal to... One of the best pictures in the history of the National Hockey League. Number one picture in the history of sports. Yes, yes, yes, very nice picture. That was Glen Hall and God bless him and his family and friends, thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family and friends of the late, great, truly great Glen Hall. Three Vesonotrophies, by the way. Donnie here it is. Yeah, there he is. That's him hanging on to the crossbar there. That's the great Bobby York flying through the air.

6:10And that's Glen Hall and that one of the best pictures. No Picard is the defenseman here. And one of the best pictures have taken ever in the National Hockey League. So, Glen Hall leaving us at the age of 94. He won the cons Mike Trophy with the St. Louis Blues in 1968. I think it was at the time, I think Roger Crosier was the first with the Red Wings, but at the time he was just the second player to win the cons Mike Trophy, the most valuable player in the playoffs, despite the fact he played on the team that lost the Stanley Cup final. They lost to Montreal, the Blues did back then. J.S. Shigerr, I think, is the latest NHL player to win the cons Mike on a team that did not win the Stanley Cup final. But I always remember as a kid, it was such a big deal when the NHL expanded to, I know this sounds archaic folks, to 12 teams. And the St. Louis had in goal for, not their first year, but their second and third years of existence. They had in goal, future Hall of Famers, Glen Hall and Jacques Plunt.

7:11Jacques Plunt, and they really brought that franchise alive, along with Red Baronson and Phil Goillette and other legendary players. But I always remember Glen Hall and Jacques Plunt playing with the St. Louis Blues. I think Glen had a mask on by then. We saw him in that picture there, he had a mask on when he was getting scored on by Bobby Orr. We've lost Ken Dryden, Bernie Peront, Glen Hall. That's a good point. There's so many good goal tenders, there's so many great goalies we've lost in the last few weeks. Okay, moving on, tough turn, but we're going to take it here. There's an article today, or I think it was yesterday, but it's on the sports net website, done by our friend Ian McIntyre. He's on the road with the conax reporting from Detroit. As Ian often does when he's on the road with the conax, he's able to go one on one with players, more so than he would be when they're on home. I see he's done an article on Elias Patterson. I know you've read it, I've read it, Ryan has read it.

8:12I'm sure a lot of people have read it. You know the story folks, a lot going on with the Elias, we talk about him a lot in the show, I realize that, but this article is fresh. There's a lot going on on and off the ice for Elias Patterson. First of all, off the ice, well documented, miscarriage suffered by his wife, Kate and Mary in June, an outpouring of sympathy online for Elias Patterson, and he goes on to say in the article that he couldn't thank people, and I can't thank people enough. He also says he realizes a lot of people go through this, and they were married in June. However, there's also a moment when we're talking off the ice here, a moment that received criticism. Remember the conax, their last road trip, successful road trip, and they went through New York, Elias Patterson was on the trip with them, he was injured, and I didn't see this video. I don't know if you did. I did. It was on Instagram, Elias Patterson injured not playing in New York and his wife posted

9:12a video of the two of them skating at Rockefeller Center, and he came under criticism for that. I don't think the conax liked it, and so they talked to him about it, the conax did, but it is up to each player. I don't care if your wife is posting, or your kid is posting, or you're posting, social media is a vicious animal. You're in control. Believe me, we know there's a ton of nut bars on Twitter, but listen, Donnie, the conax were taken aback by it, they talked to him about it, that if you're an injured player, we've got a quote here. We've got a quote here. From Adam Foot. Yeah. Got it. Go ahead, Rick. Yeah, so this is Adam Foot on EP40's Rockefeller skate. I mean, I had to talk about it after the fact. I was just given him advice like, Hey, when you're injured, maybe stay away from social media part. I think young guys, we have to teach them that just to keep the noise away, and now more than ever, then when 20, 30 years ago, when you and I started, every single word on

10:13Twitter, you know, it's not, you break a story now, it's too an article. It's one word, one sentence, one picture, one video. It just goes, it catches fire and it takes up. I could see what the connoxer's seeing here. You're injured, right? You're the highest paid player on the team, and you're out for a skate at Rockefeller. What's it called? Center. Center, with your wife, and, you know, be careful what you guys post on social media. I could see them having the target. He's a target to start with. He's a target in the city. He's, when things like this happen more of a target, and what are you doing skating and having a career? You're injured. You know, it's just, it wasn't a good, it wasn't his account, by the way. It was his work. I don't understand that, but okay, you've got some control there, I would think. But the part that bothers me here is the, you know, the last part of it. And that's, I think, young guys, we have to teach them that. I think we forget that at least Patterson is 27 years old. He's not young. He's in his eighth NHL season.

11:14Great point. Great point. This isn't a 19, 20 year old. He said no better. This isn't a 21, 22 year old. Not only is he 27 years old, he's been in this market, a Canadian market. He has seen the media and the fans, and he has seen social media. He knows all about how crazy he can get in a Canadian market. So I do like the fact that connects, you know, talk to him about it. That's smart. Yeah, but to hold it a second, you just, you have the greatest point of the day. He's not 21. He's not 22. Agents talk to their players all the time about social media. In fact, I've talked to kids that are draft eligible for my agent buddies about the dangers and pitfalls. Well, no wonder these guys have problems. I help out my agent buddies, talk to these young 16, 17, 18 year olds about the pitfalls and dangers of social media. He should know by the time you're 27, but anyway, so let's focus now on the ice. 12:2012 games in November for Elias Pedestan, shades of the old EP 40, let all NHL forwards in blocked shots playing well defensively, a lot of positivity, but lately, and he asked Gordon in his last two games, but overall 26 points in 34 games. That's not good enough. We are also aware of this, referring back to the moment in the infamous moment, so that were to get infamous moment in New York when he was injured, but he's dealing, apparently that injury is still lingering. He's dealing with a nagging injury. He's missed eight games this season overall, so this is an Elias Pedestan quote, Rick, from the article done by Ian McIntyre. We got that, right? You want me here? You want to do it? I said, yep. So this is Pedestan on his injury. It's going to be a nagging injury for a while, probably the rest of the season, but I can play with it. In some situations, there's some pain, but I can push through it. Okay, so you said this morning, the connexer, nine points out of the playoffs.

13:22Look, the playoffs are a pipe dream. Get this guy, if this injury continues to linger, shut the guy down. Shut the guy down. Let him have a few weeks and a few months to get 100% for next year. This year's a write-off. If you think your nine points out today and you're going to leapfrog seven teams, they're in 31st place, they need to go on a heater. We're talking a heater like the Buffalo Sabers just did done. Ten on the 11th. Business can change quickly. Is this team capable of ten wins in a row? I don't think so. Well, certainly if they're not, if they're without their, no matter what you think of them as a player, not without their number one center. But also during the article in reference to this, the nagging injury, but Adam Foot says the four-day holiday break set Patterson back. Why? I don't know. Yeah, that's weird. I got it. But if you're on holidays and you're, you know, you're just sitting on the couch, how can you go backwards? Well, maybe you shouldn't sit on the couch.

14:23I don't understand that comment. Other than that, maybe he was outskating and he made it worse. I don't know. A Rockefeller Center? A Rockefeller Center. And, and let me say this too, Don, there's people talking about a Patterson trade. Okay, so what are you exactly getting for Patterson and a trade? You would have to take back. Get rid of the contract. Yeah, okay. Hold it. But you're all part of it anyway. No team's taking 11-6. You'd have to take a good chunk of money back. And here's another one for you. He's on pace for 50-60 points. Who wants to pay 11-6? What are you getting back? The connects are already weak at center. They're very soft in terms of not a 6-foot-4 center. What are you getting back for Patterson? What would you possibly get back? How would you improve a center? Well, you'd plummet to the bottom of the standings, well, not that you're close right now. And maybe you'd definitely get a better chance at the first overall draft pick. Okay. If you have a focus for the future, which they never seem to have. But there's no world-class center in the top 10 at this draft.

15:25They're heavy wingers, heavy defensemen at this draft. You draft the best player possible, maybe a trade sure would, okay? Okay. So then you've got three first round draft picks, package up some of that to get it to get. If that's what you really want, then you may come up with a package to get a large puff first line or second line set. Yeah, I'm sorry. I one team told me today, thanks, but no thanks on Patterson. And it's just the contract. His plays gone backwards. Here's another one for you. Somebody might believe they can turn his career around. Okay. Here's someone like that. Don, here's another one for you. This regime traded, Horvath and Miller never got a top six center back. Are you comfortable with these guys trading Patterson and getting something like? I know because I don't know if they know what they're doing. They look what happened in the Miller trade. These guys went from Patterson, Miller, Horvath and Lindholm to Patterson. Horvath wasn't here with Lindholm. The center-ice position is in such disarray. It's the worst center-ice position in the National Hockey League. That's why they're in 31st place on.

16:27It's the center-ice position. And now so they've got a number one center with the nagging injury. And is it 10th and I just again, do we know what's up? What are your agent bodies telling us? That's our guy. It's upper body. It's upper bodies. Well, it's not 10th and I just something. But you say upper body. Why would footstain not skating as a big deal? You'd have to ask that. To me, that would be lower than what doesn't take long to lose it when you're not skating at all. So did he not skate at all during those four days? The most player is not skated at all. His four days enough to set you back. Am I wrong here? I was a weird. Yeah. It's weird. I would like to know more. Weird for a long time. Yeah. It was just the guy down. Let him get 100%. Well, how would that, how would their center-ice position be at that point? Do you want him to get, now he's had injury problems for two and a half years now. It's always. Every summer, every winter, shut him down. Get him 100%. He's not making the playoffs. But Kevin and Langley, we got to go, but Kevin and Langley, really good submission.

17:29It's not going to happen to have to the Olympics. Yeah. Oh, no, no, I'm not saying today, tomorrow. I'm saying, you know, as we get, my thing is, if you're sweetener, you're not monitoring this. Huh? Are you not monitoring this? The sweetest you want to keep. I did text Sam a lamp. Okay. And, no, I did. What did Sam say? No, he just said, you know, when, at Patterson comes out of this injury, we're hoping that the Olympics, he's, you know, ready to do. He should have been leading this show with that. No, what are you talking about? He didn't say anything super duper, you know, fascinating. He knows he's injured. Of course he does. You don't think that he's been injured now for two or three weeks, Patterson. Of course, the sweet's no, but the fact they put him on the Olympic roster tells me that he's not serious. Yeah, it's not serious. He should be. But nagging. Yeah. But okay, here's the other thing. Yeah. Is there an NHL player who isn't playing with a nagging injury? Thank you. A lot of them are.

18:49Yeah. No, no. Hold on a second. Can you answer the question? Do you think Edmonton has problems where they're looking? They all do on the West Coast. They all do. Well, they're not the West Coast, but they're in Northwest Canada. Yeah. Okay. And Connor McDavid has gone on record fairly recently, and I'm paraphrasing here as saying he loves this schedule. Yeah. Look what he's doing right now. Wow. Because he did get some on, get some on a roll and he's dealt with injuries. You know, he's on a 16 game points through right now. He's fine with that. I know it's Connor McDavid. You can't really compare him to anybody, but he's okay with the schedule and he's the best player in the world. And Seattle's playing 17 games and 31 games. And they're at point. And how are they doing right now? Yep. A whole lot better than Vancouver. We got a break. We got a break. Farhan's texting me. He's all angry. Is he? Is he running our show? Brad, I was such a disdain there when you dropped that. It was said with love. No, no. And then Rick, here's who Rick doesn't love Ontario Premier Doug Ford because he has taken ground off the shelves in Ontario. Yeah, but it doesn't matter. I'm not in here. Unlike you. I don't like other provinces. I like British Columbia. It's not taken place in BC. But maybe it's starting a trend. Like other provinces. I like other provinces of the US, but I definitely don't like other parts of Canada. Yeah. As long as the crown is okay and BC, I'm okay. I think you're okay with other parts of Canada once every two weeks, Farhan. Yeah, no kidding. No kidding. We lost Farhan here. How are we doing? Okay. All right. I want to ask you. You're in Arizona for the college football playoffs. How much you love American college football?

23:03A lot of people do. Yeah. But the situation with the Washington Huskies, for people who aren't aware of it. And if I'm wrong about this, Farhan, in any way, let me know. But their quarterback or former quarterback, Demon Williams, terrific sophomore season. He signs a contract to return to the Huskies January 2nd. A few days later, without his agent knowing we understand, he announces he's answering the transfer portal, portal likely on his way to LSU, where the controversial Lane Kiffin is in charge. But what does all that say about the state of college football these days? Where's the loyalty? Yeah. Well, there's no loyalty. And the state of it is that it's an absolute mess, right? When you look at what's happening right now. And it's unfortunate because the on field product has never been better. But, you know, the idea of this being a, you know, collegiate sports and, you know, just any traditions and things like that, things like loyalty. Oh, my God. It just doesn't happen here. So look, players enter the portal.

24:04They transfer. I don't like that they're able to transfer on an unlimited basis, but they can do that. But now, in this case, it's a little different because he signed to return. He signed an NIL contract, which is going to pay him around $4.5 million for next year. And then all of a sudden, like you said, you know, his agent was involved in the deal with Washington. And then he got some other people that are advising him in the background. He decided to do this on their own. They went rogue and they decided he was going to announce that he was going to go in the portal. The transfer portal. And the worst part about it is that there's an athlete's, a women's soccer player at University of Washington. They were having a funeral because she died of cancer recently. They were having a celebration of life for her. And he posted his transfer announcement during that while bunches. He made some pictures at this celebration. So it was tacky. Look, it's the Wild Weston. I'm a big Huskies fan, as you know, and Desmond Williams is a good player. But if this is going to solicit change because it is overshadowed today's game, this weekend's game's big time.

25:05If this is going to be the first catalyst for change, I'm all for it. Even if it means that he's losing a great player. It's so interesting right now, Farhad, because it seems sleazy. It seems. It seems. It is. It seems to be just completely wrong. The whole situation. Player is getting paid. There's supposed to be amateurs. It's supposed to be focusing on education. And now along comes them getting paid. The name image likeness situation. But here's the thing. Back of the day, it was also sleazy with people getting paid under the table. What's worse? Good question. And to be honest, I think this is worse. Now, number one, I'm happy the players are getting paid. But there's got to be some regulations. That is the NFL of a salary cap, but the college football doesn't, right? And theoretically, they've got this revenue-sharing cap, but it doesn't really apply. And there really is no leadership, right? It's not that there's bad leadership. There really isn't leadership. So that's a big part of the problem. But here's the thing. We spend so much time. There's 4,500 players that went in the transfer portal, which opens January 2nd.

26:074,500. And we're going to talk about the top 100 players that get paid. But we're not going to talk about the 1,500 players that don't wind up getting any place to land. And every time you transfer, you're one step farther away from a degree. And I know some people roll their eyes, but the majority of these guys don't play in the NFL. And a lot of them get through college with a degree and are better served for it. So I know that a lot of people want to roll their eyes at the idea of that being important. But it is important. And, you know, should players get paid, sure, but there does need to be some guardrails when you add the ability to transfer unlimited. Now it leads to the tampering, and that's where all the problems lie. So, like I said, you know, none of it was good. It wasn't good then or now. The NCAA tried to do everything it could to prevent players from getting paid. If they would have just backed off a little bit, we might not be in this mess today. Hey, Farhan, the CFL, the CFL PA report cards out again. The BC Lions did not do well. Like, what's going on here? This is what? How you treat players, how you treat their families, practice facilities.

27:07What the heck's going on? Yeah, you know, I think the Lions took notice when last year's report came out, and it didn't necessarily put a favorable light on them. And I think they're taking steps to make it better, right? I mean, if you look at some of the things that are happening, the facility that was erected outside the main facility in Surrey, so that they could renovate and improve everything that was going on inside. You know, and I think that knowing the Mar-Doman wanting to move out of that facility in the next few years, the fact that he's even willing to invest short term to make things better for the players, I think is good. So they're not there yet, they've improved in areas. They had a strength coach, they've done some things. But, you know, when you got an owner as committed as a Mar-Doman, I was surprised to see some of it. I mean, he does a good job, you know, business ox led by Dwayne Dwayne, who does a good job as well. So I was surprised. And honestly, I reached out to some of the players on the line saying, like, how does, how does ownership get a bad grade of all teams with the BC Lions? And a lot of them weren't quite sure how that happened because, you know, I think because the ownership category was blended in with others that maybe it fell there.

28:11But there were a lot of people that had some questions even internally about how it came out the way it did. No, look, I only talked about it. Maybe they thought the survey was about the Kenox Farhan. Well, that definitely would apply. There is absolutely no doubt about it. That would, yeah, don't get me started there. Don't get me started there. Don't wind me up, Donnie. That's not fair. It's nice to sunny here. Wipes here. We're half vacation, half working to wind me up. It's not sunny. I see clouds. What do you mean sunny? There's nothing but clouds compared to here in sunny. We pick the worst two days. It's going to be sunny tomorrow. And I'm going to fly to Atlanta where it's cold again. Okay. Listen, let's deal with the BC Lions. Robert Carter, juniors off to the NFL. Good for him. But I'm not hearing any NFL interests for a Nathan Rourke. Is it safe to say he'll be back in BC and not give the NFL another shot? Well, he's certainly not going to give the NFL another shot this off season. And I don't know that he ever will.

29:12So you're not hearing his name and interest because he's not putting himself out. I'm attempting to get workouts. He's here. A mind and body in the same spot. So he's not going anywhere. And as far as Carter, it's an interesting signing. And look, he's a great athlete. 22 years old last year and had a very good rookie season. So you might not be getting a bonus or things like that or a guarantee. But this is the time when a player is not married. No kids early in his career. This is the time to take a shot. But I wonder with his size what that opportunity is actually going to look like. And from the people I've talked to you down there, they're looking and potentially playing him at nickel. And if they do that, I mean, again, you're closer to the box. You're taking on bigger bodies. So I wonder what it's going to look like. But he had a fantastic season. And I'm looking forward to seeing what he looks like in the free season in the NFL. You're covering in Arizona Ole Miss versus Miami in Atlanta on Friday. Man, you get around Oregon and Indiana. But also for hand this weekend before that you go NFL playoffs. I think most people, the game that excites most people,

So I'm glad that they stuck with him long enough that he's not finally able to be that guy. This defense is really, really good. People are going to talk about Buffalo's Josh Allen. Well, Jacksonville's Josh Allen's pretty good as well.

31:14I honestly think Jacksonville can pull this off. When I look at Buffalo, they were like so much on Josh Allen. They have so many holes defensively. So many holes at receiver. Yes, the running back cook is very good as well, but they're all lines average. So I just think Jacksonville defensively is in a position to contain Allen. And I think they can pull this off. But how many years has this franchise struggle for a top pair, right shot guy? They got him in a Heronic. I don't like the way they got him. I don't care. The right side with Heronic, Myers, and Willander coming up is for the first time, and probably over two decades, the Kanox right side is set, and it looks good. The trade for people who don't remember, which would include all of us, March 1st, 2023.

34:18This was in the wake of the Horvat deal. They had that first rounder from the Isletters to play with. Heronic created from the Red Wings with the fourth round pick in the 2023 draft that turned out to be Time Mueller to the Kanox for a conditional first round pick in the 2023 draft. Turned out to be Axel Sandin, Pelica, and a round two pick in the 2023 draft, which turned out to be Felix Nielsen, who has yet to play a game in the National Hike League. Sandin, Pelica, showing a lot of promise. He's played 42 games. Premi, that's not him. Sandin, Pelica, has played 44 games. Four goals, 11 assists, 15 points. He's a minus 18 for the Red Wings. And Horonik's long term tied up. So you're set there. And Myers ain't going anywhere this year. Well, Landers up and coming. That's just great. When Willander passes Myers, and he will at some point, and then you're going to have Horonik and Willander for many years on the right side,

35:19that's a pretty decent, very good ratio. Would you rather have him or Sandin, Pelica? Well, I'd rather have. With the future in mind. Willander's fine. You saw him. I don't know. I want to see them, if I'm him, and even if I'm a seasoned ticket holder, I just talked to one this morning, a relative of mine. See, long time seasoned ticket holder. I just want to see them take a different approach. I be okay with the rebuild. He's not. He's back, he's back. He is back. And look at all, I'll say this. With the way I feel seasoned ticket holders, I know them too, have been taken advantage of, particularly in the last 10 years, the way that they're benefits. Are we going back to the seats now? No, no, but their benefits as a whole have been cut back in sane and in the sane amount. There's never any giveaways in that rink for anybody. You don't get anything out of it. They act like you're getting a little parachute anymore. You get nothing, you get nothing. What, go and look around the league. So you're using seasoned ticket holders? Get no, it's been heavily scaled back. Open practices, team events, all those sorts of perks. I have one of the skills content. That as well. All those things have been ripped back. Who is the goalie of tour? Was it Mark's turn? Mark's turn.

45:32He got injured one time, now it's out. That was at that, yeah. I remember that. You were there? All those sorts of things have been clawed back. And so props to you, if you still want to pay that massive bill to this organization, don't get mad at DJT. I just hold that. The submission, I don't get it. I don't feel for any of these people that pay pay. No, exactly. To call, man. If you're okay with 40, 15 years of crap hockey and you still want to pay, God bless you. But I'm not feeling for it. Sorry for it. I'm not feeling sorry for him. I'm like, and maybe he has money. It's not as big. I don't know the situation. I want to see a different approach. I want to see a different approach. I do not feel sorry for connoct season ticket holders. If you're dumb enough to pay for that and you're happy with it, then God bless you. 46:32That's the problem. Every year, the ring's full. Back in the 80s when the connox were crap, does it? Donnie, the cold scene was half empty in the 80s. But now, apparently, there's a lot of money in the city because they keep flocking to the ring for no playoffs. I agree with you. There's, there's not sold out. There are empty seats, but it's not like, it's not 15,000. Maybe it's 17,000. Okay, I agree with you right now. But I remember the mid 80s. I remember the Messierra. This could happen again here. Donnie, it's been running a thick, I think it's more likely to happen. How way is? I don't, I don't know who goes to games. I don't. I don't. Like I, like it's ridiculous. And the Messierra wasn't that long ago. And there were a lot of empty seats. There were, Brad Bird, 25 cents. I'm gonna move the team. You guys have been bringing it up. It's been awful since 2011. 2011. And look at the ring. The season. The season tickled older I talked to today. Okay. Yeah. Said that he has tickets and he can't always go to games.

47:34Yeah. And his measuring stick for how the connoxer doing and how successful they are business wise is how much trouble he has giving those tickets away to the side. Thank you. And I killed, he said at this point that he has to phone four or five people to go to games. I have the same experience. So this can happen. But the apathy can set in. I just don't see it. It has. I tell you what it has. But again, it's something backed up by the ring. You know what? One of the differences now versus way back in the day is that the rest of the league is so well publicized. You want to see the other teams more. Even though a lot of people back in the 80s made the mistake of not seeing Gretsky enough. There is that population's bigger brand is way stronger. I mean, regardless of how it is, the brand is way stronger. Okay. One of the newer brands in the national hockey, I just want to touch on this quickly, is the Utah mammoth. Big news involving them yesterday. The 2027 Winter, look at this rendering, by the way. The 2027 Winter Classic will be held in Utah at the Rice Eccles.

48:35Yeah, at the University of Utah on the new campus. The Utah's gonna take on Colorado's fourth outdoor game. I like this a ton. First of all, I like it because it's outdoors completely. I love that. Two, it's on a university campus. That's big as well. And three, the backdrop. Like we ripped earlier this week. Rick and I completely on the same plate. Like Tahoe-ish. Yeah, big time. Rick and I, Rick and I on the same page, that Florida game was a disaster. It was awful. Looked horrible. No buzz, it was awful. It was awful. It was completely into the ocean, you're there. It was awful, it was awful. This looks, this rendering looks amazing. They get a day that kind of looks like this. It'll be pictures galore. And Utah, Colorado involved. That's cool as well. That is the other interesting fact here, is that I didn't realize this, but Utah, slash Phoenix, Arizona, slash the old one at the first edition of the Winnipeg Games. The only team I've never taken part in an outdoor game. Right.

49:36Because this new version of the Jets has, and in fact, they're rumored to be hosting, or has it been announced? I can't remember. They're hosting next year's Heritage Classic Winnipeg Games. And there is a player in the NHL and other teams who wants to play in that game. Oh, do you remember the very first, the whole first one I remember the game at Edmonton. Edmonton, when they had the old Tigers game, and it's very funny what? They had tukes over their helmets, and it was so cool. I just remember it was a great time. It's kind of awesome, actually. I'm sorry, I shouldn't say that. Was it Gretzky or Glenn Anderson? Somebody's, their cheeks were like red. Right red. Because it was so cool. Anyway, welcome to Canada. This looks awesome. 51:38Vancouver Giants GM, Nat Dominikelli. Nat, thanks for doing this, sir. How are you? Thanks, guys. Thanks for having me on the show. I'm surprised you have time to talk to us. Are you in the middle of making a deal right now? Why don't you chance? We're in knee-deep in it, finishes up today at five, so it's been a emotional week to say the least. I bet. And speaking of things being emotional, how tough was it to let Cameron Schmidt go? Yeah, it was really, really hard. It was really, really hard. We wanted to wait as long as we could this year to see where the group would go and give them every opportunity to be successful. And unfortunately, we are what our record says we are. And currently, we're at the bottom of the standings in the Western Conference. And we just couldn't figure out a way to stay pat with the group change had to happen. And then through the conversations, Cameron was the guy. We didn't want to trade, but the offer became so big

52:39to allow us to rebuild for the future. We started there. When you get a guy like Mathis Preston from Spokane, you don't see teams trade, guys that are going in the first round of the draft in their draft year net, like when he became available, he was a third overall pick on the bottom draft. Like, you must have been saying, why the heck is he available? Well, through the research we've known that it's put have been possible before Christmas. And that led us into all our discussions about, okay, if we're gonna go after Mathis, there's gonna be a huge cost associated with this. And we're gonna need assets to do it. And so once we made the decision to transition off the 2007 group, and then onto the 2008 group, where I believe Mathis Preston is arguably the number one forward prospect in the WHO, and one of the most exciting forwards available. And unfortunately, you have to make these hard decisions. And the ability to acquire Mathis, unfortunately,

53:40we had to make about three or four other trades and acquire assets. And so, the work's exciting to have them. I think we're getting a great player. I think we're getting our fans are gonna see two of the top NHL prospects with him and Ryan Lin in the second half. It allows our team to stay competitive still. It allows us to recoup about seven draft picks for our future draft, along with the other players we brought in. So like I said, it's a very emotional week here. It's a very tough to say goodbye to players. But on the same side, I think for the organization, it's kind of a restart here, and a new era for the giants moving forward. And we gotta get back in the race somehow. Now, with all these moves, how long do you project when the giants can be a contending team again? Well, it's we have to continue to do good in the draft. This draft in May is gonna be huge. The import draft is now becoming even more important.

54:41I don't I see a quick turnaround. I still think we're a good team this year, we're just unfortunately for whatever reason we're under the playoff line right now. So to be a top-top team in this league, you're gonna need to play better defensively. This is the one thing I've seen with this team. If you look at our numbers, given up 164 goals against, and if we're gonna be a contending team, I just think the makeup of the team needs to change a little bit, and we have enough skill up front. So my my job now is to continue to find players, which I think we did in Will Sharp and Caleb Hartman to rebuild the blue line. And once we can rebuild the blue line, I think we can be competitive year in and year out. The landscape is changing in junior hockey. We're seeing younger kids getting traded. You're worried about pro, you're worried about the NCAA. Talk a little bit about that. Before you used to have these kids for four or five years, now they're making decisions on leaving at 17.

55:42Yeah, now the 18-year-old has become the old 19-year-old where it's changed, it's the overage guys were 20, and now I think it's gonna change where your elite talent's gonna be 17, maybe 18, and then I think you're gonna have to build through with character guys and maybe less skilled guys as your older players. So it's definitely changed, but there's no excuse. I mean, we still have to find a way to get to the top of the standings. Talking with that, Dominic Kelly, the Vancouver Giants. Joe Aguinla, you familiar name to people around home. People everywhere in the hockey world, but you acquired Joe Aguinla from Edmonton. What can you tell us about him as a hockey player? Joe's a real exciting 17-year-old right-winger, he knows draft, similar situation. We moved on from Aaron Obleby for to bring in Joe. Exciting player, obviously, when you come from a hockey family, there's a lot of pressure, and so we wanna make Joe comfortable,

56:43let him be his own player, let him play his own game. We don't want him to have to feel the burden to be somebody he's not, but I think another player that is just scratching the surface, I think one of the reasons you guys touched on before is we know Joe's gonna be back next year, so that's a real positive. We were sure what was gonna happen with Aaron, if he was gonna move on to the different leagues, and so weighing all those factors in to be able to acquire. If you look at the numbers, basically, the same offense of output and gain a year, and knowing he's gonna be back, that led us to make that decision. And Nat, I don't know if you're aware of this, but just like yourself, his dad was a pretty good junior hockey player in Canada. You impressed your friends with that fact. Hey, Nat, Adam Tillback, could you not tell him to take it easy on the Canadians? He looked fantastic at the world juniors. Yeah, Adam was really excited. He's wearing his silver medal proud today

57:44in the dressing room, and he's gonna be a player that we're gonna have to rely a lot on here in the second half. I think with the changes that we made, Adam's gonna see increased ice time and leadership role, we're currently in discussions with Adam and his representation to see if there's a possibility that we can keep him also for next year, to be a 20 year old anti-European player. And so that's positive, and also Tobias, Tomic, I think he's gonna have a bigger role in the second half. So that's exciting times here. Nat, thanks a lot, appreciate it. I'm not sure if he got my little joke there about drill again. I don't think he did. He played with a Gilla. Was there a communication problem? Cause it was, it was pretty funny. He said it's over his head. I think it was anyway. You know, this just in there is a possibility. I know you refused to believe it, but you're just not that funny. Well, the flu over said you have flu over his head. I think not. He was adjusting. He's locked in. It's a busy day. He was adjusting. No time for you.
