And Filipino on the ice? I don't know about Filipino. It's an optional this morning. So other news concerning the connox who again are eight points out of a playoff spot. Adam Foot believes they can make a push for the post season. That's a story maybe for another day. But Kiefer Sherwood has been the focus of much connox conversation. Well, since the start of the season, really he's having a career year. And the big question is, he's a pending UFA. Will the connox try to keep him? What do you know about an offer to Kiefer Sherwood? We keep hearing about an offer from the connox to Kiefer Sherwood. There's no shortage of people. We saw this indicated in our poll yesterday in the Waddling Dog poll yesterday. No shortage of people who would like to see the connox focus on the future and trade nothing against Kiefer Sherwood.

3:01No, not at all. But trade someone like Kiefer Sherwood or Vandercane, any depending UFA's with the future in mind, but we keep hearing about an offer to Kiefer Sherwood. Any more details after the show yesterday? Yeah, so I was. Since the show yesterday. So, Donnie, I was told that the connox made a very respectable offer to Kiefer Sherwood over the weekend. It sounds like the offer was in the four million a year range and medium term on years. So, let's go through this. Short term is one to two years. Long term is seven to eight years. Medium to me. This is something else we've talked about before this show. It's probably four to five years. And, you know, so there was a lot of speculation out there. But see, I think four is medium term. Medium is four. The five is where you start your long term. Yeah, okay. But it was mid to, it was medium term in your term. Medium long. Connox offered sure with three times three in the summer with his old agent, a land war. So, this is recognition that this player is now worth more term

4:03and more money. He's getting, the connox offered a huge interest. For a year. He's at 1.5, Donnie. And the connox went all the way. I heard there were in the threes in the summer, which I confirmed three times three in the summer. Now you're, you know, touched around the number four. This is recognition. This guy leads the team in hits, leads the team in goals, 17 goals. Good for culture. And Braden Coots went out of his way to say that the guy that helped me most in training camp was who, Donnie? Sure would. So, look, the connox took a stab at it. I did the very respectable numbers. A four million is not, it's not a chunk change, Donnie. It's a, it's a pretty significant raise for a guy. He's at 1.5. So anyways, I think the connox made a respectable offer for him. And I think also that teams are resigning their players. Look at last night, Christian Dvorak Philly. Who the connox were interested in one pool? Connox turned, he turned down three times four from Vancouver's life first. Bet on himself, signed a 1-year deal of Philly. Rick Dockett likes him. Tockett, the reason he picked Philly over Vancouver

5:03is Tockett, Tockett had him in Arizona, Donnie. So that contract, by the way, just going to tell you this, is good news for Sherwood. They're around the same age. And Sherwood is out producing Dvorak. I know one of the guys, one's a center, one, I get it, I'm not stupid. But anyways, I'm telling you, that contract bodes well for Sherwood last night in Philly. Well, and then look at the situation with the connox, if you wanna, and I realize that this is in terms of producing impressively, offensively for Sherwood. Not a long amount of time. And last year, what, 19 goals in this year, 17 already. But I mean, he's up performing best for 7.25 a year for Brock Besser. DeBress 5.5, Garland, 6 million a year. I would think that the connox would look at $4 million as a bargain. But like I say, the customers, the fan base, do they want to see the connox make a move that is a move for the present versus the future?

6:05They don't. They don't, yeah. I will see this to you, Donnie. You told me you were gonna argue this. No, no, I'm telling you. I, I, connox, you do two things here. Either sign them quickly or move them quickly. One of the two. And, you know what, Donnie, the fact they went up from one five, four million, is a significant. And three million, you said three million in the summer. So they are realizing this guy's value, Donnie. They're realizing this guy's, that AV, V, no, AV, no, AV, and term has to go up, Donnie. AV used to be there, it's a little light. This is light. This ain't gonna get it done for, done for key for Sherwood. The four million. Four million, and the AV's gotta go up, or one of them has gotta go up, but it's a little light right now. It's not. Do you know if anybody has said, look, we'll give you a first rounder for key for Sherwood? If they had a first rounder for Sherwood, you'd be gone by now. And bottom line is Donnie, and I'm gonna say it again. God, the connox have an ask. It's a real tough ask, and they're not gonna,

7:06they're not backing down. They got time. There's no deadline to trade Sherwood today or tomorrow. There's no deadline to trade Sherwood in a week. They got time. Why not wait? Well, they're pushing for a playoff spot. Yeah, they're pushing for a playoff, according to the coach. The managers want nothing wrong with Adam Foote saying that, by the way, I get that. He's wired to win. He can't. Donnie, it is, and he's got a solution. What are he's supposed to say? We're trying to. Donnie, it is an issue when the GM is going to say it. And the president are saying it's a rebuild, and the coach is saying playoffs, and you're trying to sign a 30 year old deal. Okay, the messages are incredible with this hockey club. But I'm not surprised, a coach or a player is gonna say, I want to win. That's its organizations that tank, or the organizations that build for the future, have the focus on the future. But if that deal gets to, keep for Sherwood is gonna be 31, fairly soon, if they can march. That's right. So the end of that contract, if I'm doing my math here correctly, it'll be 36. Like, does that fit? And again, he's great for the culture. I just, if you can get a package

8:08that includes a first round draft pick, a high draft pick, how you got to go for that? I had enough to focus on the future. The president's thought all that great. It's okay. But why the base will accept that? Why did they accept that? Why did they accept that? Why did they take a stab at resigning him, Don? Did you got to ask yourself that? They tried for a bargain. We talked about it yesterday. Yeah, yeah, okay. And the other thing is I had a team tell me this morning, we're not giving up a first, first or what? Can't do it, can't do it, can't do it. So it's gonna be a second and plus and whatever, but maybe they hold on and hold on and they get the first. We don't know, Don. Okay. Meanwhile, moving on from key for sure, but three connox have been named to their country's Olympic or roster. This is on top of the Elias Patterson for Sweden and Kevin Lankanen for Finland. Camp and Heronik for Chechia, no surprise. And Bluger on the ice today? Yes. For Latvia? Yeah. Hey, the fact that Latvia picked him, the Latvia wouldn't have picked Bluger.

9:09If they didn't think he was gonna be available for the Olympics injury wise, so this is good news for the connox, and at least they can get him back. And we also understand there's news Olympic wise surrounding that, your Demko. Yeah, a lot of people concerned Demko, by the way, serious discussions with the US about Demko, they just couldn't overcome the injury situation, but I've been told he's on a list, he's the number one guy. If there's an injury for the US goalies, Demko is gonna be the first call up. So he's on a list. He's not disregarded, you know, just because he didn't make the team. Okay, we also found out today, this is a way from the connox that Sam Bennett has been told that he will get the first call, or will get a call, because I believe Seth Jarvis had the same thing in Carolina that he's on the, you know, as you would expect, they were part of that foreign nation's team that was successful back in February, that they will get the calls if, or one of them will get the call if an injury happens. Same as Demko. He's been told that he's on a list,

10:10and he's gonna be called up if there's a problem. Okay, so other connox news, I wanted to mention this just because it's something that people can do research on, and a lot of you know the story, but they've hired Jack Johnson, former NHL defenseman, a high draft pick back in the day as a new scout. So he officially retired as a player at Pro Scout. And without getting into details here, but if you ever want to read a story about parental abuse, parents interfering of a child who has done very, very well, and we're talking financial abuse, it's the Jack Johnson story. So all the best of him, and there's a Pittsburgh connection, as you'd expect. There's a Pittsburgh connection there with Jack Johnson and Jim Rutherford and Patrick Elvin. He's the connox new Pro Scout as his career comes to an end. All things considered, not a bad career. I want to Stanley Cup with Colorado. History with Jim Rutherford. I think Jim drafted him third overall. So there's a history there. Yeah, but the backstory with Jack Johnson is when you want it,

11:13without getting into too many details, is one that you want to research, just awful. One of my favorite movies is Love and Mercy, The Brian Wilson Story, The Liquid. Oh, right, Brian Wilson Story. And you talk about parental abuse, or at least abuse on the case of his father, and it was just awful. This is somewhat similar, weird, really weird. Okay, also, Brayden Coots. So Canada wins bronze. We want to talk about the state of hockey in Canada if we have time today. We got Ken Hitchcock on the show tomorrow, a lot of fun. But Brayden Coots, the latest on him, Rick, yesterday we were talking about, and Brayden Coots scored yesterday in Canada's six three bronze medal win over Finland, but he's on the move. He's on the, he's still going to PA. I know it's taking a little bit of time. Yeah, Prince Albert, he's still going to go to Prince Albert. The roster Christmas freezes, and oh, no, the world junior freezes and over, they should announce it soon, but he's going to PA.

Okay, also with the saddle Thunderbirds, I don't get this, they're trading braidencoots. They're not having a great year. They're trading braidencoots for a significant package. I would think we don't know the details from Prince Albert. I'm here in eight pieces. There you go. From Prince Albert, Prince Albert's having a very good season. But now we also, oh, we don't understand it. It happened yesterday. The giants have made five trades starting on Monday. There was one today as well for yesterday. But why would Seattle pick up Cameron Schmidt? Giant's leading scorer from the giants for a significant package. I think six pieces, including two first round draft picks. Because if they're trading kood, some think into myself, well, they've given up on the season and they're building for the future. But then they go and do this and acquire Cameron Schmidt. And best of luck to him, by the way. Watch so many games at the LEC and he's just wonderful to watch.

14:17Dallas stars third round rap pick. And the kid they got from Spokane, keep an eye on him. He's gonna, the Vancouver Giant's gonna... Mathis Preston. Yeah, the Giant's gonna have two kids going the first round of the NHL draft. Maybe top 15 both. Ryan Lennon and Mathis Preston, who played together earlier in their careers. The Seattle made this trade because they knew kood's was gonna be gone. And so this guy basically... That'll be still so good. But just let everything play out. There's Rutherford running, Seattle. They're dead last in the West, Donnie. They're dead last in the West and they got the Buffalo defense. So why would you make a now trade? I would let everything get sorted out. Let kood's and make, let them make an official kood's to PA and then we'll discuss. Okay. More to come, we believe from the Western Hockey League, certainly, but maybe from the Vancouver Giant's as well. Giant's also picked up. Another one to draw him again, those kids from the oil kings. Joe againla. Joe againla is a member of the Vancouver Giant's, the againla family. So it's gonna be nice to see him in the future. And kood, you coach got traded today.

15:17Well, not just a kid from the Port Moody area, but a connect draft pick, six round draft pick Parker Alcos from the Ableton oil kings is going to Colognea for we believe our sources have indicated. Really good source on this. Really good end end end end. I will have three draft picks. I'm gonna give that guy a pat on the back the next time I see him. The horse will be Friday. He goes from Ableton to Colognea and of course Ableton having a wonderful year. Definitely a strong contender for the W.H.L. title, but Parker goes to Colognea where they're hosting the Memorial Cup. So he'll play, you would think, in the Memorial Cup. In the Memorial Cup. And the conax can keep an eye on him. He's a conax draft pick from Port Moody and it's always nice. The Sedine twins always go around this area to watch these kids play and keep an eye on him. Keep tabs as Sedines do a really good job keeping an eye on kids in the western heart. They do. No, they really do. They really do.

16:18Which hasn't always been the case with the conax organization. They get it. Those two. As they always have. They've done a tremendous job. Okay, lots more to talk about. Now, how would you, both unexpected, how would you compare the two number one seats? Seattle and Denver. You know, they both are similar in the sense that they're led by their defense, that they had similar records last year. I can't remember, were they both like 10 and 7? Let's go with that. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, something like that. Then that was a great answer, John. And then now they're number one seats with probably quarterbacks that people are still inherently skeptical about. I think that's the best way to describe it.

19:25They're defensive led, and they both have very different coaches, but smart coaches. And even though they're the number one seats, I wouldn't call either one of them the favorite, necessarily, to win their conference. Probably the Seahawks more so than the Broncos are favorites, but both of which there are people still are kind of in, I'll believe it when I see it mode. You're bang on, by the way, both 10 and 7 last year. Can't put anything past you. Can't put anything past you. Okay, hey, you're an offensive lineman, the Seahawks extend, left tackle, Charles Cross, four years, 104.4 million dollars. Does that make sense? It's a really, really important position. It's a super important position, because if the guy at that position screws up, a lot of bad things gonna happen. I mean, it's probably a strip sack.

20:25Might get returned for a touchdown. You know, you probably lose that game. Your quarterback might be hurt. If you have a liability at left tackle, you really have problems. So obviously, John Schneider and the Seahawks feel pretty darn good about their quarterback in Sam Darrell right now, which is why they want to make sure Charles Cross at left tackle is a guy they can count on. Now, they've got it done at times without him, but I think that speaks to just how highly they think of him to give him that kind of contract. And I think Schneider realizes that's just the going rate for those guys. Larmy Tumsle is gonna get another new contract now for more than that. So you might as well get crossed because these other guys get the deals they're about to get. Yeah, and Cross wasn't there last week against San Francisco. What an impressive victory for the Seahawks against the 49ers. And Ross, this comparison is being made. This Seattle defense, which has been so effective

21:26versus the Legion of Boom back in the Super Bowl days, what would you say about that comparison? I was this close, this close to posting on social media at Ross Tucker NFL on Saturday night that it was Legion of Boom 2.0. The way their defense was flying around, the way their defense was smashing people, I mean, it was super impressive. It felt like the Legion of Boom 2.0. And then I remembered a couple of weeks earlier, Matthew Stavard threw for like 500 yards. And Pukin' Akua had like 200 something yards and I thought, okay, yeah, maybe I won't do that. Maybe I won't post that because that was not really that long ago that they got lit up like a Christmas tree. But they have a very good defense. I think that says a lot about the Rams quite frankly. They have a very good defense and they are physical and they are flying around and they are fun to watch.

22:26And John Snyder, I mean, the DeMarcus Lawrence bringing him in Ernest Jones trade. I mean, just, you know, this is how you get special teams. I don't mean special teams of the unit. I mean, very special organizations is when a lot of the moves that you make seemingly all hit right around the same time. Ross, fun to watch is gonna be the Jaguars and the Bill's Jaguars of 1-8 straight, great quarterback and matchup, tough call. Who do you got? You know what I got? What, Rick, I have the winner of that game going to the Super Bowl. Oh, wow. That's what I have. Wow. I believe the winner of the Bill's and the Jags and just feel that. I just think that that's going to be and that being the team that goes because the Bill's have Josh Allen. If you haven't heard, you're a good football player. The Jaguars have been on a roll. I mean, Trevor Lawrence is probably playing about as good as any quarterback out there,

23:27including the MVP guys, Drake May and Matthew Stafford. I don't know that they're playing any better than Trevor Lawrence has over the last couple of months. So that feels like a true toss up game to me. Yeah. I guess I'll lean Jacksonville just because of the run they've been on. But it feels like a shame to me that one of those two teams has to lose that game because it feels like that feels like the AFC championship game to me in regards to how high regard I have for those teams. Ross, I don't think I would ever want to be an NFL kicker after watching what Tyler Loop went through in addressing whom I did see people supporting him, the coach walked him to the dressing room, but he's got to be the lonely sky in the world after that. I mean, that was tough to watch. So that is why, and I mean this sincerely, high school, college, NFL, whatever it is, I always root for those guys to make a kick. I always want them to make it.

24:27I know what it feels like when I felt like I arguably was the reason why we lost the game one time. And it was 2002 for the Cowboys against 49ers. And this is like before you could just get access to the video online, I sit up all night watching the news channels, the local news to see if they would show the play, to see how I did on the play, and also to see if they were blaming me or not. 23 years old. I mean, it was, it is not easy. It's a lot on anyone. And especially a kick like that. The first one under 50, he missed all year. You can see the smiles by Derek Henry and Lamar after he kicked it, like, all right. And then they realized he missed. And they were just like, to get on that plane and you know, feel like he let everybody down, that is, that's rough. I wouldn't, I really truly wouldn't wish that on anyone.

25:30The Jets are the first team in NFL history to not have an interception all year. How does that happen Ross? I would have thought that that was impossible. Yeah, I really would have. You know, when you think about tip balls, drop passes, like I'm amazed, amazed that that happened. I mean, I think what's the fewest any other team had? Like it just, it seems improbable. It seems impossible. I don't know what it says about the Jets. Obviously they were a horrendous team, but I don't know what it says about their defense or misfortune or whatever. It's actually, when you look at a lot of the statistics for the Jets, it's actually remarkable that they won three games. Hey, by the way, going back a couple of the answers that go, what did you do to cost your team the game? Back out of the day. You know, it was just, I wanna say we were,

26:30I think we were up six maybe, against the 49ers, we had a really good team in 2002. This would have been the biggest win of the year, playing for the Cowboys, and it was third and one, and they called kind of a lead draw, which means I'm supposed to like set on the guy and then take him wherever. Probably wasn't the best call by the OC who admitted it the next day. So I set and Dana Stubblefield wasn't going for it at all, and he just came and locked me out, jacked me up, and then made the tackle at the line of scrimmage for no gain. Rather than going for it on fourth and one, we kicked the field goal, our kicker missed the field goal. Niners go down, score a touchdown with like eight seconds left to win. So we were like super close to going up by two scores. If we get the first down game over,

27:33if the field going to go in game over, basically if anything happened other than what happened, we would have won the game, and unfortunately we didn't, and I thought it was all my fault. The truth is, it's a really hard block, and I don't really know that I would have done anything differently. It's a one-on-one block right at the point of attack against a good player. You really just have to kind of hold on for dear life and hope you're running back and kind of break through an arm tackle. And before we let you go, Ross Pete Carroll, let go among other head coaches in the National Football League, let go by the Raiders after one season. Where's his legacy at? Really, really good. Really, really good, I think. You know, it's interesting because if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl this year, that does affect his legacy probably a little bit negatively. But to get the two Super Bowls to win one, to win multiple national championships, not many have ever done it.

28:34To me, he's a Hall of Fame coach. Ross, I'll say it again. Happy New Year. Glad you're back for another year. Appreciate it. Have fun watching those games. 34:40You can't make, you can't win a Stanley Cup being a 19, 20, 30 place. I know how it works, but I don't care about getting eliminated in the first round. Exactly. That's where you build. And you build a winning attitude and a winning culture starts with making the playoffs. Yeah. No, like your goal has to be to win a Stanley Cup. And keeping, keep for sure, what is great a player as he is. And I have all the respect for him in the world. But like Ryan just said, like, if they don't deal him, where are they going to get these future assets from that, that are going to help them? You would think, given what other teams have done, the, win a Stanley Cup one day before it's over for certain people. And let's give key for some credit here. He makes 1.5 million. I just said, the connox went to three in the summer. Now they're at four. How about giving this guy credit? Great. Absolutely. This guy is really, he had a great year. I'll give him more credit if he gets the connox, if he gets traded and gets the connox a package.

35:40The focus is on the future. A first round pick. These, these results are not at all indicative of the on or off ice player. A person, key for sure it is. In fact, there's a world you can sell me on, we're resigning this guy because of the culture he brings. You can sell me on that. The problem is, yeah, you can, you can sell me on that. If you want to sell me on that, that's fine. The problem is how many of these guys are you going to have around here? I want to move. I don't want to have. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. He's probably unmovable at this point. He's going on. He starts ripping into Brock Besser. He was dealing with something a little a while back. As you've been out of the line up in the line, I'm not saying he's not 100% now, but during the string of one goal in 20 games or something. If this was happening, he was not 100% dealing with something. If this slump was happening with Pedersen, this, this, this market would be burning down. Besser gets shielded. I'm sorry. He does.

36:41He gets shielded criticism wise because there's a guy like Pedersen because there's been that DeBrosca has a lot to do with his personality. Yeah. He's amazing. For sure. But I'm sorry. He's underperforming as a player right now. And we shouldn't be able to not say that because he's had a story that he's had. I mean, it's been a massive step back. Let me just say this. I'll give Sherwood credit for what he's doing. And I love him as a player. The Connected more players like that and people like that. But I think what the best thing for the organization is that key for Sherwood is playing really well. And it's up to his trade value. Yeah. Not his contract value. Yes. That's the best part of it. Okay. Meanwhile, you wanted to talk about a Connected Graph pick who got himself some hardware in Minneapolis Simple. Well, Ryan, can you get that up? Wilson, the Bjork is a Swedish born. In fact, I heard through the grapevine that it's not something you should work for. Wilson Bjork. Connects for the right. Ryan, get it up. Well, you got to get the thing up.

37:44It is right there. Adam, Clasen, Black, Wilson Bjork joins Patrick Suntstrom. One of my all-time favorites, Johnny and I. This is the only reason why you wanted to do this. I love this. 80s. Patrick Suntstrom was so good. Right around. Right after Thomas Grideen, it came Patrick Suntstrom and Lars Molyne and Patrick Squeak go. I love those guys. Patrick Suntstrom was a Finn. I know he was a Finn, but I'm just saying I love Patrick Squeak go too. Wilson Bjork, Connected Graphic, joins Patrick Suntstrom as he only Swedish players. Do you have to buy the Connects to win gold at the World Junior? Just three gold medals for Sweden at the World Juniors. In 15, this is back in 81, then 15, I guess. Suntstrom was proud of the team. I think the Swedes would have more World Junior titles than that, but Canada is one most of them, so that's the big thing there. Just that, right? This is right, Don. Colin Adam? If the Swedes have only won three World Juniors, the Connect numbers are going to be low. What is it? One year is now. Not the stink of not being able to get out of the, like, the preliminary round.

38:50TSN showed the statistics of what they've put up in the tournaments, but they haven't been able to get to the final stages. You know what? My memory is not serving me well here, which as the years go by, I have to say what? This is accurate. It is because my thought is, well, 81 makes no sense, but I forgot Patrick Suntstrom wasn't part of that 82 team that went to the Stanley Cup. He didn't join the Connects until 82, 83. Thank you. I'm sure he did. No, he did. But that was one of Pat Quinn's great moves. One was first moves. He was getting Kirk McLean and Greg Adams for Patrick Suntstrom. I got no link at all the Patrick Sonsstrom with this, but I'm going to talk about it anyway. What happened with the Washington capitals? Capitals beat the Docs 7, 4 last night, but more importantly, just in sort of, just in sort of from Richmond. We talked a lot about this Giants, of course, on these trades this week, just in sort of first career, Patrick, for the caps. Look at how excited by the way, teammates are here, just loving and remitted of it. And sort of, of course, super excited as well. So I didn't know this, just in sort of he's been elevated to a top six role in Washington

44:02over the last 20, 25 games. Drafted by Florida. Drafted by Florida. I traded it for a second at a six-throw pick. I believe it was the trade. Last season. They're good at resurrecting careers there. Washington? Yeah. Well, I've got a tweet on that in a second. Yeah. Well, a PLD. Yeah. Right? Yeah. They got that trade for Darcy Kemper. He looked like he was completely lost. He's found his way there in Washington. So this is 16 points down. This is actually playing out sports with the tweet here. He goes. He also had two assists in that game last night. So five points last night. First career, Patrick. 16 points in his last 23 games. Again, since he's been elevated to a top six role in Washington. And good on Justin Sortiff from Richmond. So this is what happens when you go to a two-time Stanley Cup champ. He didn't have the opportunity to advance in their lineup. Washington picked up on that traded form. He played in Surrey Minor Hockey Delta Academy. This kid's been a good player right from the get-go and good for him last night. And he is doing incredibly well.

45:03And he's a young kid. He's only 23. Three goals to assist. See, that's something, though, Rick, that you just brought up that is another piece to this whole issue with the Vancouver Canucks. Why couldn't the Canucks start picking this kid up? Because they didn't have the assets. Right? I mean, there's a thing. You got to go. You got to go. That's right. That's right. He's low bull. He's low bull. They don't get locally. Why would you do that? But it's also, though, and Grant has been banging this drum as well. It's when you have, like, look at Montreal, right? Like, people think that it's only about drafting and developing. It's also about having an accumulation of assets that maybe you can make trades, right? No adoption. That you make trades that you can add pieces with your rebuild. That's how you can potentially cut a little bit of a corner. Not with a rebuild for three weeks, then, right? Have they been having the rebuild for 10 years? No, but I'm saying, though, that this is where I haven't been in a rebuild for 10 years. That's, and there are always zero focus. Right. And this is where the capped out no assets thing continues to work.

46:05Always capped out. Always no assets. Always. You can't get involved in things like this, where you take a chance. A bit of a chance on a young kid. On a young kid. And you look at it. It's now paying off. Instead, you're wasting fourth round picks on Lucas Rikle. I mean, that, like, that one is just, I don't know what somebody saw over there. They were desperate. There was no centers. I mean, they tried them at Centuries, a winger. It didn't work. They didn't give up a fourth round. You get it? Yeah. Those are so valuable. They've already done that. I agree. Look at the amount of draft picks they've had year to year over the last several years. They keep training their other teams. They've traded first and second round picks for six years. What was the, what was the, what was the year they started in the third? The 2024 draft. People don't realize this. And people better get their head around this. The 2024 draft for the connox will not yield one player. Yeah. I mean, they traded picks one, two and three. Right. They don't want to have a draft where no players come through and play for you at this stage where they are. Right. You said the 2024 draft.

47:05Yeah. Right. Right. Yeah. So what happened just before that? They had a big run. Yeah. That's the problem. They have these runs. They trade all the picks. It's the same. 2015. 2020. The bubble. These mirages. Yeah. To come around. We're right there. All our chips are in. No. That's not the way you do things. You've been batting for the first year. And then the bubble. That's what I said. 2014, 2015 was his first year. The 2015 team, 2014, 2015 team, had 101 points. That's it. And then they got upset by Calgary, the first round of the play. But they had a pretty good seat. You know, okay, we're there. We're right. No, they're not. And then draft picks go out the door. But we are. But to a point you brought up Donnie in the last segment, though, too. Yeah. It was fun, I guess, the two rounds in 2024. Is it a run? Like, it's two rounds. And they make it seem like, man, we were right there.

48:05They may have been right there if they kept certain players. Is the door off being one. Ryan, they took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it. They took it six. They took it in. They give it an impact. Yeah. And that is what you know, they're like, you have something, you know, we're winning. I got this one. Were you, you know, don't I mean, Ball like it. I just mean that was just like, for ever, it was something. You know, it's been not right, you know. We are lucky, you know, you know. You are lucky. edge. It was tough hard to play against. Okay, it was hard hard to play. Let me think about it. Seelos was in goal. And they still pushed Ebbenton bit. They had edge. They were tough to play against at home. Big time. And they got away from that. Is there any team on a plane to Vancouver saying turn the plane around? We're high. We don't want to play Vancouver. Are you kidding me? Their record at home is four, 12 and three. It's the easiest barn in the NHL to collect two points.

49:09I don't know. I still think we were ahead edge two. Miller had edge. You only guy with hard skill in the top six. I still think we were all a bit duped by that one year. All right. No, no, no. They had six all stars. Guys in the top 10 scoring. Are you kidding me? Yes. And what did Ray say when he was on with us last? Maybe they all had career years. They all had one flash in the back. Rick, look to your argument, Ryan. And sorry, but to your argument, they got to know better. Like they they they know that this was a blip. And we still have to we still have to build for the future. They didn't or and or they got and they also got away from a gritty tough team that they had for two seconds and it worked. And the other thing about that year, they were incredibly strong up the middle of the ice. Teams go far when they're up the strong up the middle of the ice. Sure. And now guess what? That was said. 50:13But elsewhere in the NHL announced today. This was a bit surprising. Columbus, the blue jackets, naming former executive here in Vancouver and in Toronto. And I forgot in Arizona as well before Simon Vancouver. Lauren Skillman is the new vice president of hockey ops in Columbus. Of course, Columbus, uh, uh, uh, uh, Dolm Adele's there now in the GM at present role. Yep. But Yarmul kick a line in being promoted in Buffalo, who the connection taking on tonight to GM, he pulled some guys out of Columbus to join him in Buffalo. So they had some vacancies. Incomes Lawrence, Gilman. And so we can expect a gold tender to become captain in Columbus. Yeah. And uh, for them to hire a sleep doctor. Hey, I mean, say what you want. Hey, Gillis has to come find them. They did. I'll give them that. I mean, how has it been since they've gone, Mr. Sirius, can we not have a little sleep doctor was that was an all-timer? There's a story involving that. The desperation with Longo. Remember the draft pick thing too?

51:15You had him announce the pick on the stage and then naming him captain. And I felt bad for him because he dropped the puck. I don't know if you guys saw a favor. He dropped the puck in Florida for their winter classic games. So now he's been part of two winter classic games and he's yet to play him one. Yeah. It's just for the guy lucky for him. John, thanks for doing this, sir. How are you? Well, it's not beautiful Buffalo today, Donnie. It's a good old-fashioned the eastern seaboard rainstorm. You'll love it. Well, I would imagine they prefer rain over snow in Buffalo. And not a bad thought. But they're in Jacksonville this weekend. The bills are, but that's another sport. We're focusing on hockey here, John. Canada grabs a bronze medal at the world juniors. So three straight years without a gold medal for our country at the world juniors. Is development? I mean, this has been a big topic over the last couple of days. Is the development

53:29of hockey players in this country where it should be? Well, the answer, in my opinion, the answer is still yes. But I'm going to put an asterisk beside it, because there were 16 players from the Czech team that play in the CHL. Yep. So, so we are developing great hockey players. We're not necessary developing great hockey players with a maple leaf on there, the front of their sweater. It's one of those fascinating sidelines that we are the home of hockey. We are the leader. We did invent the game, and we export the game better than anybody else as well. And so when you look at it, there I think I read a stat yesterday. There were more than 40 players that won medals from the world junior championship in Minneapolis, St. Paul. And of course, only 19 were from Canada.

54:31So the other guys were from from Czechia, and there were other participants as well. So we are still developing a lot of great hockey players. They're just not necessarily Canadian. Yeah. And for people who want to feel better about this subject, 15 of the top 20 picks in the 2025 draft were Canadian. What did you think of that? And I'm top of that when you look at the you know, the the Conor Bidards, the Maxwell Celebrini. Matthew Schafer. There's you know, Wyatt Johnston and there's there's still a bunch of young talented players that we are developing and exporting to the NHL. What did you think of Gavin McCannis tournament speaking of young Canadians? I thought it was okay. You know, it wasn't, you know, when you put it in that term, it wasn't like we saw Bidard Domini. But it's, you know, I became as in a tough spot in my opinion.

55:34When you think of everything he's gone through the last year, changing from the CHL going to Penn state, playing in a different level, not as many games, maybe more development playing with older men. It's been, it's been a little bit of a roller coaster for McKenna. It hasn't changed my opinion of what he will be in June, which will be the number one pick. And then will be a great player for the NHL team whoever chooses them for years to come. Hey, John, what's going on with the Kanox? One week they talk rebuild. The coach says the other week we want to make the playoffs. They took a stab at signing Sherwood who's a 30 year old UFA. What's your gut saying when you see some of the mixed messages coming out of Vancouver? Well, I'm not sure they're mixed messages, Rick. I think what you, you know, you have the difference between the long term planning group, you know,

56:35with Rutherford and Alvin. And then you have the coaches supposed to be working on a daily basis. Yeah. And I mean, he's, he's, he's got to be saying I'm, I'm going, I'm going for the playoffs. He has to, you know, what is he saying? Yeah, we're going to tank. He can't say that. You know, there are other things that I think have surprised me in a positive nature. When you listen to the veteran players, talk about their role and what's happening in Vancouver. When you hear Brock Bester talk about what he can do to help the younger players. You know, and the other question you have to ask, Rick, is can this team who I still think works very hard, or, you know, do they win as many as they as fans want? No. But the work ethic seems to be there on a regular basis. There's nobody can go to the game like the games that were at Rogers last week and say, boy, they didn't work very hard. They worked their tails off trying to find a way to win.

57:36Sometimes they have the talent. Sometimes they beat it. They play a team that has more talent. And so that's a little disappointing. But I think you can, you know, I do think you can try to win games and still, you know, retool on the fly. And I think that's exactly what they're trying to do here. John, I tried my hardest over the weekend to watch that outdoor game in Florida. I tried. Two or three times. I went back to it. I just can't do it. It's past the stage of, I, it's in Florida. They got palm trees. Like if it's in Buffalo and it's snowing, I'm watching. If it's in Detroit and it's snowing, I'm watching. But that one to me on the weekend was a stinker. By the way, the last time a guy used Buffalo and palm trees in the same sentence that fired. And that was Kevin Adams. So watch out, Rick. Don't be doing, don't be called saying palm trees in Buffalo. Okay, there you go. Take it away. So you're not wrong. But here's what I would say.

58:44If you went to the event and you were in South Florida and you had a good time, that's all that matters. I was part of the NHL group that put the first winter classic on here in Buffalo. In fact, on a day like today, by the way, that we thought we thought and hoped it would be a national event. We were replacing the Gator ball on NBC. We thought there was a chance that we could, you know, rekindle some, some New Year's Day life into an event that more people than hockey fans would watch. Well, that part hasn't worked out. It hasn't come to fruition. But what has come to fruition is that teams want the outdoor games and teams believe in the outdoor game in their market. So really, what it's become is it's a, it's a super regional event. It's not a national event. And it's

59:45particularly not a national event in a year where the World Junior Championships are in North America. So the time zones are competitive. And we're sitting here talking about Olympic teams. So when you look at the pecking order of events that were going on last week with the Olympic announcement with the World Junior Championships, you know, the outdoor game got lost. And John, Bob Polford leaves us at the age of 89. Hockey Hall, Famer, a former leaf and King, what when forced Stanley Cup said with the leaves, former NHL, a head coach, and executive, what are your memories of the late, great Bob Polford? Well, Bob was one of the great combinations of all time, Donnie. Yeah. He was a crewmudge. There's no way to put it. But once you've got past that, you know, that tough exterior, there was no more loyal person. Maybe one of the most intelligent hockey people that we've seen in the last 60 years.

1:00:50The fascination for me was that here's a guy that, you know, played under Punch-M-Lack, did win those forced Stanley Cups for the Maple if she talked about. Really became a a driving force of of creating the first quality brand of hockey in Los Angeles for the King. Said a really good job. I mean, the Kings were nothing before Polford got there. But in between all that, Bob Polford was the first president of the NHL players association. Not the one that Ted Lindsay tried to create in the 50s, but the one that exists now. Bob Polford was the first president. He was a player's rights guy. He was a smart guy. He was a loyal guy and a lifer. His son-in-law, Dean Lombardi, General Manager in a couple of cities as well. Bob Polford was part of that group of guys when you look at Cliff Fletcher, Bill Tory, Harry Sinden, Emil Francis, that were the, I call them the Mandarin's of the NHL. They kept the game alive on so many nights and so many years

1:01:57when the NHL was succeeding in spite of itself. Well said, John. Thanks for this and we'll talk to you. And by the way, I agree with you on L.A.
