1:00Boy, I got to say, we have more negative depressing numbers for the Vancouver. And we took our positivity pills to throw. Well, I didn't. I did. To throw people's away. Connects hosting Anaheim tonight. You know these numbers. One and five on their eight game home stand. They've lost 14 of 15. 30 second overall worst home record in the National Hockey League. The other number that. I wasn't really aware of until Jeff Patterson tweeted this out yesterday. But Connor Garland is having a tough time right now. Numbers wise. Nobody's going to question his effort. One goal in 22 games, 11 games without a point. No goals in in 15. And the list goes on and on and on. More negative numbers to come folks. Don't worry about that. Well, this would fall into the negative category as well. But yesterday at practice.

2:00Niels Hoguelander not there was being evaluated for a lower body injury. Suffered late in the San Jose game Rick. Yeah, late in the San Jose game. It looks like. You know, he didn't play much in that third right now. Just that the kid can't get any luck. You know, he gets hurt and training camp in Abbott's bird. You know, comes back hasn't scored this year. Hasn't scored a lot in the last year and a half. And now he's injured again. It's just the kid. You can't get a break. Yeah, can't. And then also at practice yesterday. Philipheedle and Tyler Myers with maintenance days. Connor Garland, the aforementioned Connor Garland and Philipharonic. Both ill. Both sick. This is on top of Bester and Demko and Rossian. Booeyum and forward all injured. Not good. You're just a. What would they call it the grim reaper with news today? No, I'm not the grit. It's the exactly. It's not. That's this isn't opinion. It's fact. I know. I know.

3:00We spent the previous two hours looking for positivity. I just had a hell of a. We did. I did. Okay, would you come up with nothing? I was. I was making calls. You know, give me something positive. I got nothing. Okay. It's just a factual. I'm just delivering facts here. But. But you sound like the grim reaper. Well, Casey, you got every opportunity to tell me something positive. The positive news is that. And I'm going to go negative here in two seconds after saying this is that they're 30 second. The rebuild that I've been. And a lot of people wanted it. It's happening. That. That's great. 30 second. So they have the best lottery odds in terms of grabbing that first overall pick. But did you know? And I got this from a tankathon that the connox have the best odds of grabbing that first pick right now, being the 30 second last team overall in the national hockey league. The tankathon odds at this point, as of last night, 26.3 percent of grabbing that first

4:05overall pick, 19.3 percent of picking second. Did you know, though, yeah, they have the best odds of picking third 54.4 percent odds of picking third. I hate this stuff. You know, again, facts. 30 second. You should get the first or have higher odds of getting the first. Well, you can thank teams in the past. For instance, the 1983 Penguins. Yeah. For one example, the tanking in the past. The Meriel Lemieux drive. Right. And you can thank them. And as a result, they come up with this lottery situation, which isn't unique to the national hockey league. And you just know the connox are not going to get the first overall pick. Oh, Mr. Negative. I, I, I, that this is why I'm pissed off. You had 30 second place team should put them in a better. You should, okay, if you're going to have the odds, give them the super duper good odds. I think you should, you should, you have to hit a, a number, right? If you hit, if you're so bad, they're just ridiculously bad.

5:05Like say you finished with 25 points. Yeah. That should be automatic. Yeah. 25 and under. Connox are managed to exceed that. So maybe 30 points. Oh, okay. So here's something else. You're going to like this. Oh, okay. We're talking, we're getting to our Waddling Dog poll question here. Ryan pointed this out today in the athletic. Both you and I are too cheap to subscribe to the athletic. Ryan does. That is true. That's the most money here. I'm not aware of his contract, but the athletic came out with a poll today, a survey of fans and writers ranking all 32 NHL venues. Yeah. Roger Zarina. Not good. 29th. Not good. 29th of 32. Okay. Number one on the list. Number 32, by the way, was Ottawa, the Canadian tire center. Oh, right. Number one on the list. I think it's pretty predictable. Is Montreal? Montreal. Yeah. The Bell Center.

6:05Great. Here's the thing with Montreal. If you've been there and you've seen a game there, folks. And this goes back to the days of the forum. Going there, it blows every other arena away if you're just outside. Yeah. Like the way they've memorialized all the grace of the past, all the great teams of the past and the flags and statues. I hate statues. They creep me out. But the ones in Montreal. There might be one of you someday. Well, probably not. Well, that would creep me out, too. But the one in Montreal, the ones in Montreal, of Gila Flure and Rodkin Rashard and Holly and Moran's job. Beautiful. Just beautiful. I don't think I have a Ken Dryden statue. Maybe they should. They should. But it's just to finish off the top five or six year. T-Mobile in Vegas over the top. What a show. Number two. Tampa Bay is third. The benchmark international arena.

7:05They call it now. And look, you look at the Montreal's got a pretty good end of the history there. Hard to compete with that. Vegas has had a good team since day one, 2017. Tampa Bay. What a run there on. But Nashville's number four. I haven't been there. Have you been there? No. No. That's pretty high list. That's pretty high list. That's pretty high list. That team has been okay. Yeah. Right? Yeah. But it's all about presentation. They have live music there and the crowds right into it. Number five is Little Caesars Arena. And this surprises me a bit. Because, look, there's the history and Detroit. It's Hawkeye Town. Great uniforms. All of that. It doesn't come across well on television. Like when I watch a game from Vegas, but wow, it just looks spectacular. But Detroit doesn't. And yet there's something there that I'm not aware of. I've been to the Joe. But Joe. Little Caesars Arena. Yeah. Apparently it's outstanding. Nationwide arena in Columbus is number six.

8:06That's the surprise. That is. That's the surprise. That's not the greatest team in the world. No. That's not the greatest history. But number six on the list. Well, let's finish off the 10 here. Grant Casino or arena. These new names here and they change them left and right. Minnesota at number seven. A climate pledge. Seattle eight. UBS arena in a long island. Home of the island is number nine. And this one I thought would be higher. MSG. Very simple. Home of the range is at number 10. But the connox set at number 29. Oh, that's not good. And you were saying that you think the problem is the seats that they should rip out the new seats. And you guys start all over again. Henderson's got the problem with the seats. I don't have a problem with the seats. But did they give us reasons why Vancouver's so low? Ryan, you have some comments there. But let's do this. Let's do this first. Well, the game percentage isn't all that good. If you're talking about one percentage, the win percentage isn't good. Nothing building is fine. Eight percent. Think the building is fine.

10:08144 votes. Just posted it. I don't know. I don't have a big problem with Roger's arena. A lot of the complaints about Roger's arena. I don't know if this is necessarily true with Vancouver. But looking at the comments underneath the athletic article, a lot of people talk about the concourse. Yes. And how tight it is. And the people from Vancouver explaining to other people from out of town that it's between the two viadx. There's only so much room when they built it. I don't mind that. I don't mind that. If you want to put it this way, cosiness. I think it's okay. I think game presentation for me. I think the music could be a lot better. And you know me. When it comes to music, I am hip. I'm happening. I'm with it. I know the music of today. Like the back of my hand. Yep. Yep. You do. You and I have been doing it. No, I don't. Actually. Listen to me. You and I go to lines games together quite a bit. I love the music. It's hip. It gets people involved. It gets people involved. It gets them.

11:08What do you laugh at that? Just the fact that the two of us use the word to hip. Hip. It is not hip. It gets us. If your feet are bopping and your hands are going like this at a game. For the cosiness music. It's good. Your hands are doing a lot of things. Get the pole up again if you don't mind. Because I want to bring up this. If I gave somebody free tickets to a connox game tonight. They freak out. I said to my buddy, here's free tickets. Go to the connox game. You're still going to drop $250 bucks. $50 is going to park. Okay. This is affordability. Yeah. Affordability. $50 is going to the parking. Which is ridiculous. These people in downtown Vancouver that take advantage of the park. Disgusting. Anyways. The people on the parking lot. Even us. Look at the parking. You and I pay every day. It's ridiculous. It's terrible. Horrible people. Anyways. Donnie. I agree with. What do they do? They sweep a parking lot. They don't do anything for us. We go in and they bump up the price every two years. They don't tell us. Something happened to me yesterday.

12:08I could go on a rant right now. Don't get our parking lot. Don't get me going. The smell sometimes. It's horrendous. Anyways. It's true. Ryan, what are you laughing at? Anyways, Donnie. $50 bucks for parking. But isn't that the case with most arenas? The affordability is an issue. Not just in the NHL, but all over the place. Okay. So $20 bucks. $25 for a beer. Burger and fries is what? $30-40 bucks? So right off the top. Right off the hop. And depending on how many beers you have, let's say you have four. At 20, it's 80, 50 parking. Look, you're dropping 200 even on free tickets Don. I hope you're not having four beers. Stop driving your car and parking it. Go with my buddy. I could have four. If I don't go with my buddy, I can have designated driver. Designated driver. But anyways, the point of the matter is, even if I give you free tickets Don, it's going to cost you over $200 bucks. Yeah. Yeah. I just don't know if how affordable other arenas are. I know I have been in the past. This doesn't really help anybody's discussion points here,

13:11but going to games with the Arizona Coyotes in Glendale. Free parking and the amenities were outstanding. And people have a hard time believing that. I thought it was pretty good. I haven't had a climate pledge yet. Madison Square. You've been to Madison Square. You've been to Madison Square. It's not my bucket list. Madison Square. I loved it. Bell Center too. It's just hard to get. It's almost an unfair advantage. That history. Yeah. But I just find, too, when I go to games at Roger's Arena, the originality of the presentation isn't there. Right? You know, they're playing, they play simple minds after the score. Yeah. That's pretty original. Okay. That's fine. But just strong. Yeah. I see a lot of... And Finn is great. And a lot of things are geared towards the kids. I don't know. I just... I think it could be better. Yeah. Well. And here's another thing. We know the connox watchers show. So maybe they should get going. Yeah. Well, maybe they're... Maybe they can learn a thing or two.

14:12What happened to the... As they sound like the oldest person in the world here. What happened to the organ? Organ, yeah. That's right. What happened to the keeper? The Coliseum had one. You listen to a game from... Or go to a game of the United Center with the keyboards there. And the high-pork. What about the old Chicago stadium? It's fantastic. Well, I don't know. And like... I don't know. I'd like to just see... I don't want to knock anybody. But I'd like to see an anthem singer that... Just... I don't know. Just had more of a presence there. That's just... I don't want to knock anybody. But... And it's hard to compare Jim Cornelson to anybody. Anybody. In Chicago. What a set of pipes. I don't know. Just... I find it pretty safe there as well. It's not a whole lot of fun. That's just me. You don't want to talk about this, dude. Listen to me. I brought up the... The pricing. I think it's ridiculous. I think it's got a... So what's going to... I don't know if that's unique to the... Hold it a second, John. Can this owner jack up the prices next year?

15:12After being in 30 second place? I think he can decrease the prices. And that might be a good idea that will never happen. You honestly think he's going to decrease prices? This guy? Really? They just... They're going to finish 30 second this year. It's not even... It's not even debatable. But if he comes out in the summer and increases season ticket prices? Wow. Wow. And if people are going to keep paying it? Well, wow on you. Okay. We'll talk about this some more as the after or as the morning goes on. Here's what's coming up on the show. 19:21Athletic article today, it drops ranking all NHL venues. Roger Zorina, 29th out of 32. Number one was Bell Center, 32nd Ottawa. Just your thoughts on the experience at Roger Zorina. I know you get free tickets all the time. And you're in there. Yeah. I think you have a thing or two to say about this. No, truthfully, I don't I don't have a big dislike for Roger Zorina. I think it's aged relatively well. I mean, you know, when you consider what's gone on in places like Calgary and things like that, like you walk through that building and that, you know, like it feels its age. It shows its age. And, you know, I know that it's. Cannot go ownership or taking criticism in the past about seats and other things, but, you know, I know they're getting there in terms of some of the upgrades, but. And to be honest, I don't go through enough of the arenas anymore to draw a reasonable comparison, right? I mean, you go to Edmonton. It's just spectacular new building, right? I mean, I just I don't get to enough of them to be able to draw a ton of complaints about what it looks like.

20:22So I think, you know, I've kind of I've been asked that about BC place as well. Relative to other venues. I think BC plays aged fairly gracefully. And I don't have huge misgivings about Roger Zorina. Yeah. I feel the same way. This facility is all other thing though. Exactly. Hey. I'm not sure. But if they do an article on practice facilities, the connects would probably finish 30 second. Yeah. There's a great revelation for me. Hey, I practice facility. You're going down to Seattle. Renton Fabulous there. The V Mac. Yeah. Farhan, what did Sam Donald prove to people last week and maybe especially the people of Minnesota? Well, I think he's shown that he can live up to the big moments, right? And I think a lot of quarterbacks throw interceptions. Obviously, you don't want to make that a habit and you don't want to make that what you're known for. I mean, even Matthew Stafford is throwing a lot of interceptions and he's probably going to win the MVP. But I think he's shown that he can play in the big moments. You know, I saw what happened to him last year. And I thought it was such a turnaround season.

21:22And I thought he did so many good things with Kevin O'Connell there. It was a brilliant coach. And at the end of the day, the organization made a decision that look, we drafted this guy first in the first round and that, you know, at number 10 or 11 or wherever Jay, Jay McCarthy got drafted. And it's time to take a step forward with him. And I get it, right? Well, there have been a smarter solution because he didn't necessarily have it. Development is rookie year because of injuries that could have kept Sam Donald around for your maybe. Was it all because of the last two games? Obviously that had something to do with it. But I think trying to give the keys to McCarthy had more to do with it as far as the people in Minnesota were concerned. It was the right decision for Seattle to move on from Geno Smith, given what Geno wanted. And given what they were able to get Sam for, you know, both men had interception criticisms at their feats. But the fact that Donald was able to get that done in a big game was so much on the line. And in the second half of that game, when it did not turn into a defensive struggle, when it turned into a shootout. And he went toe for toe with Matthew Stafford. I think that spoke volumes.

22:23Boy, oh boy, Bill Belichack. Not a first ballot Hall of Famer. What were your thoughts? Yeah, it was interesting. Interesting for sure. Look, I was never a Bill Belichack fan, you know, in terms of his act. But there is no doubt that the guy was the greatest coach in the history football, right? Like in the history of the NFL, he's the guy. So if ever a coach can be a first ballot Hall of Famer, it's got to be Bill Belichack. You know, do I think spy gate is an issue? Yeah. Look, I don't think that's how you're supposed to operate. I know that they've lived in the gray. You know, we've seen some of that in college football of late as well. And, you know, there's ways to to garner your information. And did he push the envelope? Sure he did. Did he deserve to be punished? Well, he was, right? He was. The team got fine. The team lost draft picks all of that. And I think that should have been it. Based on his resume, despite all the awful press conferences and the way he treated the media, the way he performed on the sideline.

23:23And, you know, even if it pissed off his players to the point where Tom Brady eventually said enough, I want to leave. I'm not enjoying this. It's, you know, six super balls, nine appearances as a head coach. Two more as a coordinator. I absolutely think he should have been a first ballot Hall of Famer. Well, another guy I think will end up in the Canadian football Hall of Fame someday is Nathan Rork. And he's Canadian, which is great. He has reumped with the BC Lions. This is a good move by the Lions. He he's now here for the next three years. Yeah, look, it was a no brainer for BC. You don't want to get this done and really no downside for Nathan to get things done because you know, he's bought a home here. He wants to live here. He appreciates this organization. You know, this is home for him. So you might as well get it done. You know, if the NFL ever just, you know, if he decides he's going to go down that road again, which I highly highly doubt. The CFL window still affords him that opportunity. So stability is a good thing. And quite honestly, when you look at what the Lions are paying him, I think he could have come in and more. Absolutely. You know, when you look at what his deal is going to be for 2026, which was on the old contract.

24:26It's not a big raise for 27 and 28 and the salary cap was going up. So he's actually taking a smaller percentage of the cap in 27 and 28 than he has the last two years. So I think this is a win for the Lions to get it done at that number. And, you know, then they were able to get James Butler and John Allen done in the last 24 hours as well. So that's that's a positive. I don't think they're going to be able to get Gerald Brockston done. But the fact that they got Nathan and have three years of certainty with the best player in the league. How can you not love that? Okay. Well, when the numbers were talking about Farhan, I believe it was 625 and hard money in his last contract. What about now and that lead? I would guess that leaves them more room to sign other people that can help Nathan. Yeah, well, he was getting 624 in 2025. Okay. He's getting 685 for the coming year, which was part of the old contract. They didn't touch the old contract and then he could get 700,000 in 27 and 705 in 2028. So, you know, marginal increases over the next two years.

25:28The biggest increases from last year to this year. And again, that's not a, that wasn't part of a changed contract. So, again, you know, when you consider what the top players are making and you consider the salary cap has gone up. This is a really, really favorable deal from the BC Alliance perspective, in my opinion. Because if you all of the sudden put him on the open market, believe me, the bidding will start above 700. Okay. One more regarding the team year about the team you're traveling to cover the COX on their way to Super Bowl 60. John Schneider, the first NFL GM, first NFL GM to change coaches. Completely overhauled roster and go to multiple Super Bulls. Does he get enough credit? And he's getting a lot of credit, right? Like he's been, he's already won an executive of the year award. I think he's going to win more. What he's done this year is fabulous. And he took a big chance moving on from Pete Carroll. You know, you can say that in terms of Pete Carroll's defensive structure, things got dated a little bit. But in terms of culture, people's current, right? Like players loved Pete's.

26:30They didn't want to see him go from that perspective. He empowered players. He let players be themselves. And so that was a chance that he was taking, right? Because ultimately they kind of were in lockstep all the way through. Now, you know, get ownership to kind of make a decision to choose your vision over his. And, you know, he had a tough draft to go, right? Like we look back from 2010 to 2012. He had some really good drafts, you know, with the Legion of Boom and Russell Wilson and everything else that he was able to get done. And then after that, it was, it was kind of quiet until the pandemic. And but since then, you know, they went back, re-evaluated what they were going to do in terms of draft. This is the third youngest team in the NFL. And they've been built primarily through the draft. Do you look at the Patriots? They've been built primarily through for agency. So the fact that they were able to, you know, look at their defense and look at, look at Byron Murphy and look at, you know, Devon Witherspoon and, you know, and the list goes on and on. Their entire offensive line drafted players. Jackson Smith and Jig, but Kenneth Walker drafted players.

27:31You know, obviously they went out and acquired a free agent in the Sam Darnell. But this was a homegrown and developed. Even then when he needed to add some veterans in certain spots like the Marcus Lawrence and Cooper Cup and Leonard Williams two years ago and Julian Love. He's been able to just, you know, check off every box in terms of need areas this year. Rashid Shaheed improved the return game, you know, gave him a valuable third receiver. So it's been masterful. He hasn't missed in the last couple of years and he's getting credit and he deserves it. And he's going to speak today and, you know, and this is sustainable. They've got cab space and they're like I said, the third youngest team in the league. You look at the Rams and the 49ers. They're among the six oldest teams in the league, right? So in terms of how tough this decision division is going to be Seattle. They've got the ability to make a run for a while here. Just before I let you go for a hand, Ryan and Rick are getting really excited. Did you just pass Trader Joe's? Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. We pass Trader Joe's. I think we. Oh, we'll get there. But he's just over the series. Now we know of. What did he play last game? 28 minutes? I mean, you know, the guy needs a rest on it. Okay. Meanwhile, you had some information regarding. Another player we talked about in the first segment. Connor Garland. We mentioned the stats. And you got all over me because I was being too negative. These are just facts. One goal in 22 games. No goals in 15. 11 games without a point. But people have a hard time criticizing Connor Garland because of his effort level. Okay. Well, okay. Connor Garland's stats, not great in the last little. Not great since Quinn Hughes is good friend left. But teams are still calling on Connor Garland. He's got the no trade, Donnie, till July 1st. Connects don't really want to move them folks. But they are listening. Would not be surprised if the Minnesota wild light Garland. But the only problem in that.

35:37They may have issues absorbing Garland's new contract, which is six by six times six, which kicks in next year. Garland, of course, is tight with Quinn Hughes. It makes a lot of sense. But the wild are looking to add up front. They got a tough chore, Don, to get out of the Western conference. I mean, look at the power. Well, the division is crazy. Well, the division is crazy. Look at their division. Dallas. Colorado. Like all the top teams in the NHL are right there. And so it's going to be tough to get out of the West. You remember when Quinn Hughes told the connox to get Chris Tannum out of Calgary. You know, Hughes is that type of guy. You know, when he wants somebody, I'm not saying this happened there. But I do remember when Hughes went to the connox and said his good buddy, Chris Tannum, get Tannum out of... It was one of the reasons he quit on shifts, right? But I'm not saying he's got nothing to do with the Minnesota. But the wild, there are a lot of teams like Garland. They know why he's struggling, Don. He's on the 32nd place team as well, right? And Key for Sherwood's gone too.

36:38I mean, there's a lot of... There's not much left, right? And there's something new with Key for Sherwood as well, in terms of negotiations with the Sharks. Scheduled to be a UFA, as people know in Vancouver, in the summer. So Sherwood and the Sharks are not close on a contract extension. That's a good band name. What's that again? Sherwood and the Sharks. Sherwood and the Sharks! Rock that down! Mark it down! Bad name! Sherwood and the Sharks. That's just rolls off the time. Anyway, Sherwood and the Sharks are not close on a contract extension. But my understanding is that the Sharks knew the price before they traded for Sherwood, Don. Of course, yeah. Yeah, so they knew what it's going to be. And they're having a tough time. Now the Sharks are in on Panarin. Can you imagine if they get Panarin and they extend him? That could affect the Sherwood talks between Sherwood and the Sharks. And you talk about agents getting involved. Oh, would they do that, Don? Sherwood's agents played a big role in him getting trade in Vancouver. They let the connects know he could stop.

37:38Stop asking for a first round pick. Stop it! You know when the connects did? They got two seconds. And the interesting thing is he would garland would get from the wild for the connects. Oh, it would cost a lot. Connections are not doing a garland trade unless it's one of those... What do they call it, Don? An offer you can't refuse? Right. From the Godfather. It may be an offer you can't refuse. It's got to be one of those deals. Otherwise, he's not going anywhere. Bassett, Oceanfront, Resort, Inbox, Tucker, and Hazelton. No hockey arena has ever come close getting back to that subject. No hockey arena has ever come close to the experience of seeing games. 38:38At Roger's Arena. I'm not so sure it's loud enough. And we have a couple of people, and I don't mean to criticize anybody. But you are going to a hockey game. They feel it's too cold there. At Roger's Arena. Like, clearly, these are people who have never played. I think this would be my guess. Never played or watched their kids or grandkids play at, let's say, Planet Ice. Planet or Port Moody or any place where it is absent. You have to wear a parkour. You want to... I like a cold arena. And some rinks are colder than others. The one in Newton, I remember, was just freezing cold. We used to... I like it, though. It's hockey. You know, a minor hockey personal. When you take your kids to a game, some of the rinks are just... Oh. Roger's Arena is a sauna compared to some of the places around the lower mainland. Or anywhere else, where hockey is played at the minor hockey level. Oh! When Brian Burke took over as GM going way back, friend of the show, Brian Burke, when he took over as GM of the connox,

39:38I remember him thinking that, or saying, and getting something done about it, that the temperature was too high at Roger's Arena. Wow. And it affected, in his opinion, the ice quality. The ice quality. So the temperature went down, but I... And look, we have one, two, three different people saying that they feel it's too high. It's too cold at Roger's Arena. There's a new invention out there. It's called the jacket. Jacket. Two gloves. Brian, you wanted to chime in, I can tell. I maintain the horn is too loud at Roger's Arena. Ah, for crying out. It is. It drowns out the audience. The horn is too loud. Yes. The fairy horn. Yes, it makes it louder. No, it doesn't. What it does is... It does. It squashes people wanting to cheer. I'm doing it. I think it's department, which I have to admit. I've never, as you know, I'm not a surgeon. I have never heard of it. It's a surgery. I mean, come on. Arthroposcopic debridement. Debridement. Yeah, that's what it is.

44:43Okay. Okay. Yeah. This is easy. Debridement. But what does it mean? On his left knee and his expected me to full return. Debridement. By April. Debridement. What does that mean? You'd look that up. The Caps did confirm this goes back to that injury he sustained. March. Last March. Right at the start of the season, which kept him out the entirety of the season essentially. He was back in like late October. Never didn't play a full 90. No. Right. He was some day and after that. And he was back. But not great. I worry about this because this is a second like year now where this is clearly lingering. He's been amazing. Oh, absolutely. In the fact, he's resigned. He's been. He really loves it. Exactly. All of that. He's been a great white cap. But it concerns me now that we're at this point almost a year later. Now he's getting a surgery done because the knee is still bugging him. That's concerning. He moved on from Aliyah Med and Jaden Nelson over the off season. And some of that firepower was out at the door with gold again on the shelf.

45:45Well, I love the way she looked at it. Hopefully she looked at it. Aliyah had been. They're training camp being held in the Camelops of Europe, Spain. Spain. The surgery was done in Austria. Yeah. Not that far away. So he went to Spain and then he went to Austria to get it. The surgery done. The department. And get that back because department is very important in this whole grand scheme of things. Okay, doc. Let's go. I got I got I got there's people at home that do not know what department means. All right, doc. So I'm bringing the goods. Debridement is the medical removal of dead damaged or infected tissue foreign material and biofilm from a wound to promote healing, prevent infection and improve tissue viability. Boom. That's very important. You had that done another part of your body. It's important to know. Clean it up. That's what they're doing. Medical removal of dead damaged infected tissue cleaning up. And by the way, February 21st against Salt Lake and BC Place. Yeah. They're MLS scheduled. They have a conca-caf game before that. But February 21st, last time I checked, February comes after January right around the corner. Yes. Was that a month away? Well, hey. A week. Today? Yeah. A week today. The women's Olympic hockey tournament. Means. A week today. One week. Wow. Like, we're at it. It's here. And of course, though, MLS season starting a touch earlier than normal because of this. They're going to have that massive warm cup break that they've got to deal with. So they're backing it up. I think a week earlier than usual. Usually it's like the last week of February, first week of March.

47:46Little bit earlier this year. And Michelle should think of that. Well, I heard satin day and big talking about this on 6.50 the other day. This is the last time we see this type of season when there's a break built in like an Olympic break. Like, hopefully the NHLs learned that just start the thing a week earlier so you can have these games spaced out. Yeah. You can't have all these injuries around the league like you're having. And games. McClellan talked to you guys about this a few weeks back. Games that I'm sorry. Sometimes you watch them outside of the conox. Oh, watch them on the games. They're still entertaining. No, the product's not as good because you're talking to your dog. You're talking to somebody who watches all these Vancouver games. Of course, this is not that. No, I'm saying beyond it. Although there's a lot of goals going around. Have you guys seen this 29 hatrics this month or a one-off record? People lost. You don't emphasize the negative. I think the entertainment value. Yes. What are men? You're the one percent. You are the one percent. If there's a one. You were such an old man. There's a two-cold arena. There's too loud in the arena and all the games are crap.

48:47I didn't say that. And the horn is too loud. But it could be a one-nothing game. 23 total shots combined with the two teams. You'd come in the next thing. I see the beauty. My God. I see that. I asked the piece last night. I see there was, I have respect for players at the NHL level. I think the entertainment value is just fine. McDavid has gone on record saying he loves this schedule. The best player in the world saying, I like, it gets me in a rhythm. I'm just fine. Look where he is in the scoring race. Okay. As he normally would be. Ask some of these teams. I get that. Some of these teams, these big injuries because of this schedule. I mean, it could be better. I'll give you that. But I think even before this, before the Olympic tournament was resurrected and the World Cup, people thought that the schedule should get rid of the season or make it very, very short. Yes. Because people, the teams know what their lineups are going to be and start a week or two really. Yes. By October 1st, the NHL regular season should be moving. But you are, like, honestly, you are an old man. Yeah.

We recorded this interview yesterday and we were getting Andrew on the show because last week we found out Andrews from Liverpool Rich is going to be inducted into the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame in July along with Travis Green. Travis Green. Josh Georges Del Rey.

51:50Malcolm Asherd. Among others. Andrew Ladd. 17 NHL seasons. 1,001 regular season games. A couple of Stanley Cups won in Carolina right off the bat and is rookie season. And then 2010 with Chicago. Of course Vancouver fans remember the rivalry between Andrew and the Black Hawks. And the connox back of the day. We started off a conversation with Andrew asking the obvious question as we often do around here. Just his reaction to getting into the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame. Yeah. I guess I wasn't really thinking about it. But obviously a massive honor. Understanding all the different, you know, legends of the hockey world that have came through this province. And so to be a part of that group. And even with, you know, Josh Georges had played playing against him. And it's, it's a true honor to kind of sit back and be like, well, you're a part of that group. Where did it start for you, Andrew? Was it Ridge Meadows? Minor hockey? Was it around back then? It was around back then. Yeah. So back when kids used to play where they grew up.

52:52Yeah. Yeah. And yeah. So we, you know, I was fortunate enough to be in, in Maple Ridge and Ridge Meadows. And we had some fantastic hockey players come out of there. And even when I was going up, I played the majority of my time with Brandon Yip, who ended up playing the NHL. And Mitch Barley, who was obviously a big time player for the Vancouver Giants for a long time. And my cousin Steve Covington got drafted to Detroit. So we would play together a lot. So yeah, I don't know if there's something in the water out there or what, but we had, we had a lot of internal competition. And just had a lot of fun growing up there and playing for our hometown. Yeah. So many other great athletes came from there as well and other sports and Greg Moore and Cam Nile. Did you like hockey right off the bat, Andrew, when you were a little one? Yeah. I loved it. It's funny. The coaching now, I think, of all the sports that keeps you busy as a young kid when you're like, have a bunch of energy. Like, you're on the ice and you're busy the whole time.

53:53So I think originally that's what I, what I loved about it. And obviously the competition, my older brother played. So I was always trying to keep up to him and be a part of that. But yeah, it very quickly fell in love with the competition and just being on the ice. And it was kind of an escape from everything and a lot of my brain to shut off and just focus on one thing. Well, let's stay with minor hockey because if you're coaching, you see minor hockey today, Andrew, academies. They cost a ton of money. And talk about the kids you see today and the kids that were with you when you were going through. How has it changed, minor hockey for you? Yeah, I think we've seen a change in a few ways. First off, like ice is hard to get it, right? There's the lack of ice time. You've seen a lot of, you know, obviously privatization of it, which increases, you know, competition. But then we kind of end up with all these really high end teams where kids are just playing with the best of the best all time. So when I think of me growing up, you end up playing with

54:54different levels of players and you had to figure that out as a player. How not only at your side of that and playing well, but hey, how do I make players around me better? How do I, how do I get involved and connect with teammates and different teammates every year? So there's some value with, I think, community hockey and growing up and playing where you play and with buddies from school and constantly being in contact. So I think we're missing a lot of that. You know, and, you know, the coaching is exceptional nowadays, right? Like the coaching they're getting now at a young age is a much higher level than we got at our age, which sometimes is great. And sometimes I think, you know, we maybe overcoach them a little bit instead of just allowing them to enjoy and problem solve on their own. Let's go back to the Porco Quitland Bakarus, okay? You go from Porco Quitland to fourth over on the NHL draft and like there was three years there. There was a short stint with the giants, I think.

55:56You were cut a couple of times, but go back and tell us that rise from Porco Quitland to fourth over on the NHL draft. Yeah, I mean, I was fortunate looking back now and I tell you, it's good advice for parents as they're kind of navigating what their kids are doing these days but I tried out for the Vancouver Giants when I was 16. I got cut and ended up playing with the Porco Bakarus that year as a 16 year old junior B. And it was fantastic. We had a grand curlers, our coach. And there was a few. At that point, there was, it was a pretty old league. So there was a lot of 20 year olds, a lot of 19 year olds and 18 year olds. So it was a great challenge for me in terms of like playing against older, more mature players that were stronger. And I still played a ton. So I think that was the valuable part for me was still being an integral part of 18, even though it was a couple levels below maybe where I wanted to be.

56:56And that allowed me to progress as a player and play in a bunch of different situations. And the next year I went back, tried out for the Vancouver Giants again. I made it, I think I made it through exhibition games and then got cut again. And then ended up with the Coquitlam Express that year. And it was kind of the same thing. Like I was, I was in the best part of the team, but I was a big part of it. And I played lots in every situation and had a blast playing in Coquitlam with a, you know, a great team. And again, it was just kind of another stepping stone in my development. I had was able to progress as a player so that by the time the Vancouver Giants decided they didn't want me anymore. They shipped me off to Calgary or my rights at least. As a 18 year old coming into that year, which is my draft year, I was ready. Like I was, my game was mature for that level. I came in and I played a lot right away for the Calgary Hitman and was lucky enough to have Ryan Guetzlap as a lineman, which probably didn't hurt.

57:59And yeah, so, and then ended up getting drafted fourth over all that year. So kind of came out of nowhere and surprised everybody. So it was a good lesson. When I reflect back on it, I think it was. It was a blessing in disguise that I took my time coming up and and at different levels. But being able to play lots at every level allowed me to continue to progress the player instead of maybe going to the Giants at 16 and playing. In the age 10 minutes a day or a game or six to eight minutes a game and being in it on lineup. I don't I don't think that would have done a whole lot for me. I remind Scott Bonner and the Giants of that quite a bit. Andrew, believe me, I do. Hey, you are captain or alternate captain for 11 of your 17 years in the NHL. Where did that leadership come from? I think a lot of it was the values that my parents instilled in me growing up. We, you know, we fostered two mentally and physically handicapped men growing up.

58:59So Bruce and Dave are a big part of our life. They were there from from the day that I was born. So they're watching them even lead in that regard. Was now that I look back had a big impact on me. So I think that was the start of it. And then those values kind of just turn turn into. You're, you know, you're trying to work on those as you you're coming up through the hockey world. And then when I got to NHL, I was fortunate enough to be right out out of the gates on a really veteran team in Carolina with Rod Brinamore and Glenn Wesley and Mark Recky and Doug Wait and Ray Whitney. So this kind of went on and on of really strong leaders that I got to see how they operated on a daily basis. Not only with their leadership, but their actions and their habits that kind of set the tone for my career. Yeah, that was your rookie season. What a stack team that was. So on to Chicago, you go from from Carolina. And I got to ask you that heated rivalry between the black hawks and connox. And I don't think I'm wrong in saying there was hatred there.

1:00:00So what was that like for a kid playing for Chicago a kid from the Vancouver area? Yeah, it was it was fun. Those were just just always like there was a hatred for sure and they were fun to like they were flying. A because we knew we were going to get their best every night and it was going to be physical and a lot of energy. And it was it was odd being from Vancouver and having, you know, I still remember having friends who were connox fans and they would show up and it was. You could tell they were they didn't know who to cheer for and. And then having, you know, a few playoff series and big matchups from that standpoint. Yeah, it was fun like you look back at those times. As you know, really fun memories for for us in Chicago. Because it was it was always nice to get the upper hand a few times too. How much do you miss playing? Richard in 2023 if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, I it's fine.

1:01:01I think it surprised people when I said I don't really miss it a whole lot. I think my body was was done and I was ready for things to slow down and, you know, young family of three kids and. Wanted ready to kind of be a part of their lives on a more daily basis. Yeah, there's definitely still things, you know, the connection of being in the room and being around the guys. And one thing that the transition and retirement really teaches you is, hey, like that routine is a big part of. Of who you are as a person. And without that, I think the transition of trying to figure out, hey, okay, how do I set my own routine and figure out what I want to do. And my purpose for this next chapter of life. It is a challenging you can see why a lot of people struggle with that. But once I got into that, I think, you know, now I'm super excited to be on the ice with young kids every day and be working on our. A group of foundation and doing a lot of really fun stuff that that give my life purpose. So I think that's probably a big reason why I was able to transition so seamlessly to.

1:02:04Hey, you touched on it there, but tell us about the coaching and the foundation as well. Yeah, so before I retired, actually, I. We started a program, which is a it's based in positive youth development sport. So it's a proactive way to approach kids mental wellbeing. So what we do is we teach them by story. So they learn about concepts like confidence, connection, character through the stories of current and former NHLers. So they literally just watch a video every every week of a it's kind of a fast fast pace YouTube style video where they learn about resilience from an NHL player. Or they were they learn about how to control the controllables from an NHL player. So really trying to set a strong foundation with their mindset from an early age. So they have a chance or at least a higher chance of having success whenever challenges arise. How do the how do people access that? Yeah, so it's right now it's free.

1:03:04First and foremost, which is fun. It's for 10 to 12 real hockey players. You go to 1616.org and you can sign up. We're we're we're probably we're on to next year in terms of signups now, but we had over over a thousand teams across North America in this year alone. And it's fun because we're starting to make a bigger push in NBC. We have a partnership brewing with the connects who have been super helpful with us. So it's I'm excited to get that program going a little more intentionally in in the greater Vancouver and NBC. This has been great. We do on and on. You didn't even talk about can and tapes still still playing, but this has just been absolutely fabulous. All the best and congratulations on being inducted into the BC hockey hall of fame. The face of the CFL, a lot of people will tell you. 2025 most outstanding player, they've extended Nathan Rourke through 2028 among other signings. And here to talk about that is BC Lions GM Ryan Rick Maiden. Ryan, thanks for doing this, sir. You're busy. How are you? Good. Fellas, how are you guys? Good. Very well. Ryan, what was that process like? Extending Nathan Rourke through 2028?

1:06:10Yeah, we started having conversations with he and his GAMP shortly after the new year. And honestly, it went very smooth. So Nathan's a very realistic athlete in terms of knowing what he wants and what's best for the club and the best for everybody's future. And so conversations went very, very well. There were no hiccups. It was very straightforward, absolutely ecstatic to get the best player in Canadian football back in BC. What do you think is ceiling is Ryan? I heard him talking earlier this week. He feels he can cut down on turnovers. Where can he get better? What's his ceiling? Yeah, you know, he's only in the first, was in the first year of Bucks offense. So I do think there's going to be a great factor to where he gets, he does get better. You know, I don't know how much truly, how much better he can get. He's pretty dang awesome right now. So, you know, the type of athlete that he is, he's always going to be focused on, you know, getting one, one percent better every day, that type of mindset. And so if Nathan says he needs to cut the, the turnovers down, I think that's a terrific goal and he should pursue that.

1:07:12But he's already playing at an extremely high level. We've got to put some more talent around him and take that next step for a franchise. You know what? I love the fact he's committed to Vancouver. And you know what? No, no more NFL stuff. I haven't heard anything about the NFL with him in this off season, which is absolutely great news for you guys, all CFL fans in Vancouver. But it looks like he's, he's saying, I want to stay here. I love it here. And this is where I want to be. Yeah, I think, you know, after a couple of difficult seasons down south, I think, you know, like we always knew he's the type of guy that wants to play. And so, you know, playing here in his own backyard in front of his family every week with a locker room full of guys that absolutely love and respect him. You know, I'm not surprised by that. But, you know, never say never, but Nathan's committed to us and couldn't be more ecstatic to have him. I think one guy, the Nathan work loves is your running back James Butler. I think there's good chemistry there. And I think you signing him today was a real good thing. Talk about resigning your running back.

1:08:13Yeah, that, you know, that's another one with with JB. We've been talking with with his camp for a long time as well. They're, they're fit together in the Buck Pierce offense has been absolutely special. You know, we've always talked about Nathan's superpower about processing and knowing where to get the ball out and other things. JB's superpower is past protection and receiving and making guys miss in space. So he's already a terrific runner, but his ability to do those things in box offenses is special. And to have for Nathan to have a running back with that skill set that also knows he's a, he's a terrific pass blocker. That just gives him a little bit more peace of mind. You know, this team's been to the Western final three out of the last four years. Can't get over the hump. What is it? Like what's that little thing missing to get over that Western final hump? Yeah, you know, I think a couple things. Number one, obviously, we've we've gone through a coaching change. And there's been some personal changes, but you guys have heard me talk about this. Just the, I think in previous years, there has been a lack of mental toughness, specifically in some physical toughness.

1:09:19You know, going into this past year in, in Sask, I think we're more prepared than we've ever been. I thought we played as good as we possibly could outside of a few mistakes. Obviously, we came up short, but you know, we, there was a big difference in this team's mentality going into that Sask game. And I think we could all see it. So, you know, we know we're right there. We've got to execute just a few more plays better. We've got to get personnel squared right. And we've, we've already done two of those, make two of those big signings with Casey sales at defensive tackle. And, and Darnell Sankey, it meant a linebacker, but we're on the right, we're on the right path. I couldn't be more excited with what this coaching staff has done last year. And then what we're building, because going into camp, now we're not starting from square one. We've already got the culture that we want. We've already got the guys that we want. We just need to take that next step. And Ryan, we're sure on time today, but let me ask you this before we let you go. Two games in Klonah at the Apple Bowl. There's also the preseason game in in Langford. Do you look at those games given the situation with the World Cup as a positive?

1:10:22I'm sure there's a lot of excitement in the Okanagan. Absolutely. I think this is a, it's a great opportunity to be in another location. But we're staying in BC to do it. And so there will be a home field advantage there. I think it's an opportunity to show off our product and our players. Maybe for some people that haven't seen it in a little while. So I think it's still an advantage. I'm proud to get out there. I love that area. Obviously we're up in. We're very, very close in Kamloops every every summer for training camp. We're all looking forward to it. Okay, I think 16 straight seasons in in Kamloops for training camp. Ryan, I know you're busy again. We thank you so much.
