More so than it would if you had more hair. Big time. You should try being me. You'd feel that all the time. But the lady of the cut, my hair, she took too long. Donnie, I don't have 30 minutes to sit in a chair. That's surprising. Why? Well, first of all, your hair is fairly short. But also if I'm a barber or somebody who cuts hair, I want volume.

2:03I want to make it move quickly, right? That's surprising that she would do that. She took too long. And I told her I said this is unacceptable. It's got to be in a note. You know, number one up. Then out the top. Yeah. In a note. So anyways, not happy. Yeah. But bottom line is. It was a good job. You got it done. It was a good job. Yeah. She took her time. Number one. Okay. Sharks over the connox five to last night. Boy, I tell you, when you watch that game last night, the thing that really stuck out for me was that the sharks were good and the connox worked. Yeah. But also that San Jose's puck movement was unbelievable. Like, maybe that's going a little too far. It was very, it was very impressive. How about that? Yeah. And just moving their feet. And I've always said this about great teams that have great players. The Oilers of the 80s for one. They were good with Wayne Gretzky.

3:03And honestly, I think when you have a great player, it's infectious. And I think, Maclin, that's the case with San Jose and Maclin Celebrenia right now. Like that, the passing that he comes up with. Great passer. Great shooter, one timer. And I think everybody on the team gets wind. It gets wind of that season when he does. I'm not saying they're capable of doing what he does. But I just think it grows throughout the roster. And they try things that maybe they wouldn't if they didn't have a great player like that. But he was just so impressive. I think anybody in this market who had any doubts about him playing for Team Canada in Italy at his age, they were done away with last night. That was really, really impressive. And so many times in the world of sports when something in the world of entertainment, when things get built up like that. And you go to see somebody live or you watch them on TV and they disappoint or they don't live up to expectations.

4:05He exceeded expectations last night. I know it's only one game, but you look at that one game and what he's doing this season. And even going back to last season and what he did in university, it is just so impressive. Let's get to the highlights. We'll talk more about Maclin Celebreni in a bit here. We're good, Derek. Rock and roll, my friend. Rock is a rain event. Hoover BC just over a minute in. Elise Patterson, sweet feed to Tom Vlander. He beats Yaroslav Askeroff, his third. One nothing for the home team in blue. Sharks reply that they ever. 36 seconds after Vlander's goal. Maclin Celebreni's stop with the shark. Get the puck back and Will Smith sets up the Celebreni in one. Maclin's gets another. They love it in North Van. One, one. Three minutes later. Celebreni with the interception inside to William Ecklin tees it up for Adam Goodett. The former conuck making it a two-one hockey game.

5:05That's the minute after that. The teal clad onslaught continues. Again, the pretty puckwork resulting in yet another ex-conuck victimizing his former team. Tyler Tefoli is 15th. Three-one California visitors. Nine minutes into the second. San Jose Parplay, Klingberg over to Will Smith. High blocker, short side on Nikita Tolopilo. That's nice. But shouldn't someone named Will Smith score on a slap shot? Four-one. Klingberg made it. Five-one. Then midway through the third conuck's parplay. Philopronik will blast one from the point. That's as close as they'd come. Sharks dump the conucks. The final score was five-two ducks at Rodgers Arena on Thursday. The Leafs in town on Saturday. I have my information wrong here. Celebrini's 27th goal. Twenty-two. Last night. Very impressive. Philopronik talked to the media again last night. Hey! What's going on? I wonder if he's going to be capped in some day.

6:05Because capped in Scott did that stop, Donnie. And he was in a fairly good mood considering the circumstances and his reputation. Oh, is impressed by that. Maybe the only thing I was impressed with when it came to the conucks last night. So I want to continue talking about McLeod Celebrini. If you don't mind. Oh. And he's a local kid. We know his dad. And I, you know, we know his uncle. But there's a lot out there. Burnaby guys. The Celebrini's. Okay. Or at least I do. I know his uncle. Okay. So this face-off play. Did you see this by any chance? Just before we run. Well, one sec here. Derek. So when you talk about great players. Yeah. They do things that you haven't seen before. Going way back to the 60s and the 70s. Bobby Orr at a fence. Been weaving his way throughout the opposition. And you weren't supposed to do that. Defensive and weren't supposed to do that. No.

7:05Defensive and weren't supposed to win our trophies. Bobby Orr did that twice. I remember watching Wayne Gretzky live. He'd have the puck. And seemingly had an open lane to the net. And he'd circle back. Yeah. And what the heck is he doing? And then you'd see what he was doing. He was opening up space. Because everybody was drawing. The opposition was drawing towards him. Thank you. And then he put the puck back to call coffee or curry. And they were wide open. And in goes the puck in behind Richard Berder. Whoever the kind of goal it was at the time. Great players do things that you haven't seen before. This face-off play. Sorry, Derek. I stopped you there. But there's this face-off play that Max and Selenbrini came up with last night. I've been around. You've been around hockey for a long time. I've never seen this. Not allowed to play it with his hand. So what does he do? A stick gets tied up. He uses the knob of a stick to win this draw from Teddy Bluger. Have you seen that, Rick? No, I have never seen that. What a smart kid.

8:06So that speaks to hockey sense. Hockey IQ. And hockey IQ. And when you talk to people who know a lot more about the game than we do. Scouts, instructors, long time coaches, they say the first thing they look for. Even before skating. This always surprised me is hockey IQ intelligence and creativity. And I get this is just a little subtle play. I've never seen it before. I've never seen that. And I know we did a lot of things that athletically speaking were much more impressive last night. But this was something else. And you can't buy hockey IQ at the hockey shop. You either have it or you don't. You can go over a video with a coach. We've had guys here, first round picks. Oh, sure. The IQ wasn't great. And they never improved. And guess what? They're out of town. This kid is just a smart kid. He's a great leader. He's a great pro on and off the ice. And you know, you can't say a bad word about him, Donnie. And after watching last night, you're sitting or going, Man, oh, man.

9:06If the hockey club here ever does this rebuild right, Don, they might get some players like him down the road. Yeah, it's just so conuck that now that they've committed to a rebuild or in that, I think, great position. 30 second overall to get a first overall draft pick. It looks like it's a good position anyway. We'll see what happens in the lottery. That there's not a mac than celebrate there. There's not a concert there. There's not a Matthew shave for there. And look, that things might change. Maybe Gavin McKenna will become one of those players. I'm not so sure right now, though. But as far as what you were talking about with San Jose, like the Celebrini and Smith is Eclan's good. You know, Michael Misa, Dickinson, Colin Graf, who was undrafted. He looked very good. And see, double A? Ask her out. There's so much there with the San Jose sharks. That was really impressive. And I know I get it. People will say, well, Don, Rick, what are you talking about?

10:07You know, San Jose went through some really dark times. Nobody was in the building. I don't know when I see something like I saw last night. And I look at the standings and they're in a plow spot right now. And this is the start of their rebuild or near the start of their rebuild. I think it's worth it. I do. I think it's worth it as opposed to wallowing in that sea of mediocrity that the connects have been wallowing in for a long time. I think the connects need to look at San Jose. Do some research on how they've come to where they are. Five first round draft picks in the lineup last night for San Jose. Those five first round picks last night got 10 points for San Jose. They're all under 23. Four are under the age of 20. Okay. This is a team doing the rebuild right. And then they turn around and they reward Donnie. The team was sure what a trade for sure what. So there's some good stuff going on in San Jose. Who we didn't see last night. Okay, for sure. He got to make a San Jose debut.

11:07It would have been kind of perfect if he did that against Vancouver. But he was not the case. He's been skating. You wanted to talk about a vendor. You've been doing this a lot lately. What? I mean, you got to come up with something new. What? But a vendor came last night. You were upset before the show. I don't know why. You take things so personally. Oh, stop. Maybe NHL players. But he is reportedly. The rumors are out there. He is on the trading block. He is. And last night there were what? 700 scouts. 750 in the press box. There were 17 scouts from 15 different teams at Rogers Arena last night. And who were they checking out? You know who they were there to see. Mostly Kane. And you know what the connects do. Put them on the fourth line. 12 minutes. Not exactly a good way to boost his value. Why not play him higher up in the lineup? If you're asking for a third round pick for Kane. It's been two months. You can't move them, right? So that's for what? A third round pick. The word is they're asking for a third round pick. But they have a second round.

12:07No, I can't go. You let me finish. Let me finish. Right now they're asking for a third rounder. It's been two months. You can't trade the guy. That tells me their original ask and hope was a second rounder. Sources believe that connects original hope. To get them was hopefully a second rounder. You can ask for anything done. At what point was that? Maybe early in the process. But Donnie, you can ask for anything you want. You saw your house tomorrow, your car, your fridge, your coffee table, whatever. You're going to ask for the moon. Right? You can ask for anything you want. But if you're asking for a high pick, even a third for Kane. Why play him so low in the lineup? Like in the other problem that connects have done. Here's the other problem. Teams are starting to make decisions on selling. You look in the Maple Leafs. You look in the Maple Leafs. They might have to sell. A guy like Bobby McCann might become available. Teams are going to flock. They're going to say, we got to go get Bobby McCann. Forget Kane. Like what? There's going to be teams in the next week or so Don that are going to say, hey.

13:09And sadly, we're not going to make the playoffs. We got to be sellers. So maybe they got to move quickly here. They got to move quickly here. But why the hell are you got them on the fourth line? Asking for a third and playing them 12 minutes with a center that he's probably not doing cartwheels about playing with. Rangers are selling. Nashville is going to sell maybe the trademark. It's going to get. It's going to get. Trade markets going to get absolutely crowded soon. And these guys, I don't know. It's just me. But if you want a good return for Kane, play him higher in the lineup. Play him higher in the lineup. 1224 ice time. Last night for a vendor. Kane, one shot four attempts. Three hits. And a fight. And a fight. So how do you up his value? The way, I mean, the numbers aren't that great. I mean, nine goals. Fifteen assists. Twenty four points at 52 games. He hasn't looked like the vendor, Kane of old. He hasn't looked like it. Oh, he's 35. He hasn't looked like a vendor. Kane did for most of the playoff drive with Ableton last season.

14:11Okay. So there's that. But you, the only way at this point that they can up his value. Oh, gone. Well, is by, I'll get to it a second here. Is by competition for his services. So it's a great sign that there were 17 scouts from 50 different teams there. Supposedly to see a vendor, Kane. Yes. So that's that way. Maybe. Hey, these guys want him. So these guys, well, you can have him. But you've got to pay more than the other guys. Some competition there. And a way you go. Some leverage. Yeah. Well, you saw what he did last night. He had one shot on goal. He's not going to get more than one shot on goal with the fourth line center. I'm sorry. That's just the way it is. Why is it like? I asked you this all the time. He came from Edmonton where he played with McDavid and Drysidle. And now you're, you're, you're, you're, you're playing him with the guy who's in and out of the lineup. Is it helped? He scribes that. It's time I checked McDavid or Drysidle or anybody like that. No, they're not on the connects lineup. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you.

15:11And the connection of the weakest team in the NHL center. So it's it. But at points he's been elevated in the lineup. Is he grab the ball? Power play. Like he said, I'm sorry. He is what he is. You can try. So why are they asking for it? Yeah. But potentially started with the second now a third. They're not getting a second or a third. No. Honestly, if they got that fourth round pick back. Yes. Yes. Honestly, if they, if they do that, gold starts. But you are allowed. I don't see how you can. They prayed. Yeah. But you are allowed to ask for anything you want. And you're allowed to be called. They started out. They were sure what they started out as a first. And a first. How did that end up? Well, the agent got involved. The agent got involved and said, get going here. What? Where you guys do it? Rick, they're not looking at him. Him piling up a million, a million points. Because you could argue that he could be getting a garbage goal. If he was playing with McDavid or Drysidle, he's just this, you know, hanging out at the side of the net and pops one in after a great play by one of those players. And they're not, they're looking for what he's got left. Even in 12 minutes, you know, how is he skating? Is he working hard?

16:11They know what they're getting in a van or came. They just, they want to see him live. What has he got left right now? When you're not helping, you're not helping Milstein, Petalham. When you're on the board. Stop. What are you talking? You think Milstein was doing cartwheels last night? I'd love to see you. I'd love to see it. What? Do you do a cartwheel? Milstein? But they end up the player, the scouts. But he's involved helping the trade, but he can't move help with the trade when the guys on the fourth line. But Rick, the scouts know when they go, this is smart hockey people. They know a lot more about hockey than we do. They know with 12 minutes ice, then they know what they see. They can see what they can't, can't evander, can't elevate his inferior linemates. That's sort of thing. That's what they look at. But could they not told foot last night? We got 16 scouts, mostly here to see. No. No. Evander. Play him higher down. I don't know. Where's the communication? What would you rather? Lakeramaki on the fourth line, or Kate? No. Because Bessar went out. Like, let's be honest. Like, that might have been a spot for a cane.

17:12Oh, Connor and Ogrin are playing ahead of them. I'm fine with that, man. Honestly, I noticed those dudes way more than Kate. Yeah. Way more than Kate. But then don't go out on the mark and ask for. Right. That's it. You just said it. You got to do it. It's on the fourth line. They're going to do that anyway. Ah. I don't know. You're thinking with these guys. Yeah. You talk too much to these guys. Stop it. Here's what's coming up on the show. DTMZ. Is it just me coming up in the 11 o'clock hour? But certainly he'll have memories. Maybe he worked the game for hockey didn't count up back in the day. Possibly. I remember it. I remember it so well. A big ride. The Twitter guy coming up later this hour. And look at this. Folks. Look. If you're a connoct fan. What are you focused on these days? Rick. Winds. Rebuilding the draft. And that sort of thing. Well, the coach wants to win. Anyway, I'm trying to say we did. It's introducing our first guest. All right. So the draft is the focus. Oh, big time. Young players. Yes. One player who is young player, Bradford Bulldogs.

19:13Yeah. Rocketing up all the draft projection boards. Maddie's kid. Oh. Wildtruck. Yes, kid. Among the top scorers, point getters in the Ontario, hockey league. I think Craig Button has them at number 11 on his latest craigslist. I think he was in the last year. He was in Chilwack, BCHL. Chilwack. Where is impressive as they are this year and big kid, Santaat and Aisman. It's a possibility for the connox. But Caleb's going to join us next. And we actually recorded the interview yesterday. Okay, we talked about the 2026 NHL draft and how you would think right now, although you never know that that would be the focus for the Vancouver Connection. Maybe grabbing some draft picks as well would be a focus with the Vander Cain in mind. And one of the players, we talked about this and the first segment as well, rocketing up most draft boards, including Craig Buttons, Craig's list. He has them at number 11, Bradford Bulldog Center, left handed center, Caleb Maholtra. He has 61 points in 45 games. Last time I checked, tied for second, in Ontario Hockey League points, he's plus 27. And Bradford, one of the top teams in the NHL, maybe we'll see them in Colona come to spring

22:14at the Memorial Cup. He was with, Caleb was with the Chilobot Chiefs of the BCHL last year, 26 points in 44 games. Manny's kid, Steve Nash's nephew, Caleb Maholtra, we recorded an interview with him yesterday. And we started the conversation off by asking Caleb, if he could put into words, just how exciting these times are for him right now. It's pretty cool, especially being on this kind of really team that's expected to do really well. We have a lot of high expectations, so that's something to look forward to. And then for the draft, it's really just exciting just to be able to go through this, talk into guys on our team that have gone through this process and kind of what they went through. It's pretty exciting to look forward to June. Yeah, good times for the Bradford Bulldogs and yourself. Now, Caleb, I'm looking back to last year, 26 points in 44 games with Chilobot of the BCHL. You go up a level to the Ontario Hockey League

23:15with Bradford and men. You are on fire 61 points in 45 games right up there on the OHL scoring race. What did you do last summer in the off season that may have led to this improvement? Well, I kind of got put in a very good situation to start off with. Our team obviously is a bit of a wagon and players I'm playing with on the power play on my liner and I had a coup d'annis. It got like Jacob Ryan out of the neck. Mike Van Acker, those guys make it really easy to kind of pile up those points. But in the summer, I kind of work on my details at every skill session. And I kind of want to think I want to improve on. A lot of it was shooting. A lot of it was just deceptive movements. That's kind of something I've always worked on and I want to improve my game. So it's kind of, that's kind of always been my goal. We're trying to be the best at any level. Obviously last year wasn't the best for me what I wanted out of myself. But it's kind of what I've expected of myself so far for this year.

24:15Caleb, your dad, Manny, how important has he been in your development as a player and as a person as well? Yeah, he's huge influence in my life. I was still not only as a hockey player, but as a person as well. As how he preaches, kind of, his approach to life is always like a lot of people that always be the harsh worker on the ice in any room you're in. And consistency and not taking anything for granted, not taking days off. So when I see him day in, day out, whether it was with his coaching, like where he does so much video and seeing up late to finish things down and do extra or whether it's him seeing him working out when he was playing, kind of being able to be close to that and see what it takes to be in the lead for so long and have an impact on my team is really influential for me. Scouts say your hockey IQ is your greatest strength. Would you agree with that? Yeah, I would say so. I think that's kind of what I think separates me

25:17from other players is on both sides of the puck. Well, that's making players finding seniors and nails on or taking away passing lands on the opposite side of that or second guys pop protection. I think that's kind of where my game has a strength. And yeah, I would agree that's my best asset. Talk a little bit about Chilawak last year. Coming to Chilawak, your dad was coaching, you're playing for the Chiefs, the BC Hockey League. How was that? It was cool. It was a unique situation being so close to my dad, even though he was coaching professional, obviously in the NHL for Abysford. And I got to see him quite a bit, which was really nice. And for the first time being away from home, having someone that's able to be close to you and you can check up on you is really nice. And that was, I think I'll be able to get a stack of stone from my development in Chilawak. There was a great organization, great people there. I like all the guys there. I made a lot of good friends and people that are gonna stick with me the way. And that's, it was really good for my development

26:19as a person as well. Okay, we talk about your father, many, of course, there's your mom, Joanne, whose brother, Uncle Steve, is Steve Nash. Have you been around him enough for him to have an influence on what you're doing as a future pro athlete, Caleb? Yeah, for sure. He's cabin influenced my life as well. I don't get to see him as much, but when I get to see him, I get to learn from him and hearing my parents and mom talk about kind of what he had to do to be as great as he was. It's really motivational and it lets me know like how much work I have to do, how much, there still is a lot for me to do to try and be great in my own sport. So it's really cool to have that kind of influence that not many people get to have. Next time you see him tell me, we want to get him on our show, same with your dad. Hey, what type of player are you? What type of center are you? Is there a comparable in the national hockey league for you? I was talking about this the other day.

27:22I like the players now, I was in a barco of just kind of how he's on both the puck and how he's solely the stick, but he can make some really high and offensive plays. I like a couple guys are saying, Jack, I go, I really like Cat one because he's obviously going to be you. I'm obviously going there soon. And that's where I really like that. Off to Boston University, you're going to go. Well, you mentioned improvements this past off season. Well, look, you're 17 years old, so there's still improvements to be made. What are you working on? I think like a lot of guys this age are getting bigger and stronger, but for me personally, I would say my first couple steps I'm trying to get faster and get up to speed quicker and then obviously top end speed I want to improve. So that's probably the biggest thing for me. Well, your dad played for the Cadux. He's coaching and Abby. Your uncle's for Victoria. You played in Chiloac, getting drafted by the Cadux. Have you thought about it Caleb? They're looking for a center.

28:23Yeah, it's cross my mind if you're pretty cool. I'm, if you could go back home, but I'm still waiting. There's a long way to go, so June, so. Well, you're on a pretty loaded team in the OHL. They're number one right now. There's a pretty good chance. If you come out of that league, you're going to be playing in Kelona at the Memorial Cup. Yeah, there is that's the goal. Everybody knows that in our room. That's what we're working towards. And hopefully at the end of the year, that's what we'll be in the hole. You're probably seeing a Memorial Cup. Yeah, so this has been outstanding. All the best to you and your family. And yeah, maybe we will see you in Kelona in a couple of months. Thanks so much for this, my friend. Now, I mentioned that Craigslist, Craig Buttons, Craigslist on TSN, has him at number 11, which certainly wasn't the case at the start of the season. He's moved up in the rankings on most draft projection boards.

29:24I found this interesting. One draft projection site that I often go to is my NHL draft. That website has him going fifth to the New York Rangers, which is interesting because they are the New York Rangers. His dad was drafted in New York Rangers. Oh, man. He was overall in 1998. And I always remember the story of Manian. These are the players I have the most respect for. The players who get drafted high, they have big numbers in junior or college, and they have to change their game, which was the case with Manian. Maholtra had to become more of a face-off specialist, more defensive minded. But I always remember the story of, we have to have Manian, one of these days, about the Rangers placing Manian as a rookie in the locker room, in the dressing room, beside Wayne Gretzky. And remember that when you got drafted.

30:26You're going to learn a thing or two. You might as well learn from one of or arguably the greatest player of all time. But total respect for Manian, the way his career turned out. And he's still, of course, doing his thing in Prohockey. And in Absurd, by the way, Caleb and Chiloak last year, 17 points in 21 playoff games is a 16 year old. In the summer, teams had him projected second round. He has moved way up. This is what happens, folks. Players get better, stronger, faster. And right now, I have to say to you, the Manian Maholtra's kid might be the first center taken in the NHL draft. 6282 points at each 17. 6282 and growing are thanks again to Caleb Maholtra. And one thing about Montreal and San Jose, all their young guys, the 18, 19, 20 year olds, all offensive guys. Like, you know, Don, when you look at the connox right now, what young guys ripping it up offensively? Nobody, well, they had better centers to play with. It would help. It would help. It really, really would help.

33:29But name one young guy under 25. That is ripping it up offensively. Montreal and San Jose have so many impressive forwards that are under 23, 22, 21. That's, that's doing it the right way. And yet you were anti-rebuild for a long time. No, it's not. Hey, these guys were anti-rebuild too. You think they're doing a rebuild because they want to? You think they woke up in the summer and said, let's finish 32nd? These guys were trying to get cadre in Zaka in November. Well, that was wrong. Well, I mean, they're there because of incredibly bad mistakes, which they never come out and publicly admit ever. One team we didn't have on that list. If you could see the Waddling Dog poll question again, guys, if you don't mind, one team we didn't have on that list, we probably should have. We only have room for four. I don't know why that is. Well, you only have room for four. Right. Can you work on that, please? Is Anaheim. They're in the ducks in Vancouver, near tomorrow. To take on the connox.

34:30They should be on that list, for sure. Chicago's rebuild. I think they've got, there's a lot of potential there, but they're 27th over all right now. Why is Buffalo there? It's about 14 years. They paint attention? Yeah. I know. What? They're playing very well. They'd be Toronto line playing. They've been 14 years. They've been winning left and right since Yarmul got there. It's 500 GMs, 500 coaches. Come on, guys. Anaheim's doing good stuff. Look at their young guys under 20. Yeah, Chicago's not in a playoffs, but the other teams are, I believe, and Buffalo's maybe we should have Anaheim there, but Chicago, Bedard, local kid, so that's not surprising that we would put them here, but we all predicted that. I wonder if last night didn't happen if San Jose would be leading this poll by so much, but that was very impressive last night. Just great player after great player. Oh, boy. And those teams are in the Connux division. Yeah, well, San Jose and Anaheim. Anaheim. Yeah, they're going to be good for years and years and years.

35:32Okay. You're getting ripped, by the way. Why? Well, in our base side OSHA front resort inbox, because you're your take on your take on Evander Cain, falling on the fourth line. You're asking for a third round pickback for a fourth liner. Who's getting a third round pick for a fourth liner? A lot of people are saying, I'm trying to find one example here. Of course, I've lost it. Okay, here we go. This is from RP and White Rock, and early as it just me. Come on, Rick. Cain is who he is. Maybe the Connux wanted to display others in the top six, or nine, like Debrisk, Garland, O'Connor. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, because remember, they put out. Debrisk has been in the top six all year since you got here from Boston. They put out the four sales sign, like most people are available. Not just the UFA's, right?

36:32But then don't ask for an open hold of the second. Don't ask for a third round pick for Cain then, if you're going to play him on the fourth line. Like, you just said no matter what the situation is. Don't ask for a third. What team's giving up a third round or for a fourth line guide done? Come on. Well, teams that are either desperate, or they really want somebody that can make... Vander Cain, I think would be better in the playoffs than he is right now. He is a really good playoff number. 32 playoff career goals. But if this competition for him of more than one team wants him, then maybe... I mean, I'm with Ryan. If the Connux get what they got, whatever you get, move them. A fourth round pick. Yeah. And Donnie, they've been trying for two months. I'm gonna say, if they get what they gave up to Ableton. They've been trying for two months. That's why the Asian got involved. Come on, guys, let's go. Let's get this trade over with. Okay. B.C. Lions. Yeah. They've extended Nathan work. 2025 Canadian football league most outstanding player, most outstanding Canadian. They've extended him through 20, 28.

37:34And hearing him being interviewed early today on Vancouver Radio, 650. From the rough. Not just the face of the B.C. Lions. Look at that face. The face of the Canadian football league. Yes. And he's Canadian. How much can't get better than that? To see a Canadian quarterback excel the way he's doing in an American skill position. We haven't seen for decades. This is awesome. Yeah, it's a short list of Canadian players going back to Russ Jackson. Russ Jackson. Brady Olivera won it recently. Canadian player. No, but Canadian players that have won the most... Don't go through every Canadian player, most outstanding player award. It's not a long list. It's not. It's not. And what the Lions did good here was. He's entering the final year of his deal. They got him locked up two more. He's happy. He's not trying the NFL. He's going to be back. He's going to get the Lions a great cup in the next year. During this contract. I'll be shocked if they don't. They got to put the pieces around him. But they're close. They've been to the Western Conference Final. Three of the last four years, Donnie.

38:35They just can't get over the hump. Well, now it's time to get over the hump. And he's just got so much respect around the league. And large part, well, mostly because of the way he plays. He performs at a level. Most players in the CFL can only imagine. So there's that. But when you hear him talk, he is a great replacement for the league. I can't remember this happening before, but he was very upset. I think he still is about the CFL rule changes. They're coming, right? The size of the field, changing, the clock changing. A lot of the nuances that make it so unique are going to be changing. Not all of them, but a significant number. And he ripped into the league. And you know what, even the people who disagreed with him had respect for him for caring that much, because he's clearly passionate about the league. He was the highest paid player in the CFL this past year. 625 in base money, in hard money. 625,000.

39:36It's not NFL money. It's not NHL money. But you and I would take it in a second. So good for anything. Again, that's the base salary. I'm just guessing he was his previous contract, or his current contract, was to end at the end of 2026. That season. So now it goes through to 2028. I'm assuming he's getting more money than that. Yeah, of course he is. It should be over 700. But here's the thing done. From a media perspective, we've had our issues with hockey players in this market. Two guys last year were phenomenal to deal with. They had to work in Thomas Mueller, a treat. They're good guys. They're not snarly, cranky, picking fights with media. These guys, this guy right here, is one of the, you and I have been in this for decades. He's been one of the best guys I've ever covered in Vancouver. And you've covered a ton of guys. Mostly there are BC Lions guys. The Lions guys are really down to earth.

40:36But this guy's Canadian. He's a great kid. Comes from a great family. And you know what? He's just an absolute treat to a deal. His brother with the San Francisco 49ers. Look, I have taken my shots. We both have at the connox and the way things are dealt with media wise. Not good. It's not, it starts at the top. And the management, they don't like, they want to control things with the media. And for some reason, they just don't get it. They don't get it. They don't get that people in this market care. That's right. And when people criticize you, it's because they care. It's when they stop caring that you have to worry. But these guys don't get it. So I'm not knocking the players as much as I'm knocking. Upheaters. Up people up top. The Lions get it. It's certainly in Nathan work and Omar Doman do. Absolutely. You're so correct. OK. They go to see one player and another player impresses them as opposed to the player they were watching. And a trade between them has been connected to Kane, including Dallas, was there last night. It's not a coincidence. My goodness. Big ride. The one thing I will say, nothing is more over-talked about. As we inch towards the trade deadline, more than the scout list at a game. That's a poor room. They're both scouts. But you don't, I mean, yes. You didn't read something, isn't it? It does give you an indicator.

43:40What are you talking about? Sure, but it just gets hyped up and blown out of proportion. Like, oh, all these teams are there. You've no idea the reason. That's a large number. That's a big number. No, no, for sure. But you just have no idea what they could be possibly which player and whatever. So Dallas has been connected to Kane. Dallas is there last night. Like, Common Sense tells you they're here to see Kane. OK, so a big sports story out of the hockey realm. Donnie wasn't even going to talk about this today, but I said we should. This broke last night. Did Donnie even say things like that? OK, let me tell the real story. You were going to talk about this later, but I'm hogging it for the sake of it. Yes, you were. Because I'm going to do a much better job. Bill Belichet, guys, this is, I don't know. Mine, boy. Bill Belichet, eight times Superbowl winning had coach, of course, not a first ballot Hall of Famer. He fell short of the 40 out of 50 votes needed for induction to the pro football Hall of Fam in his first year of eligibility. It should be mentioned. The nominees, the inductees will be announced

44:43during the NFL honors right before the Superbowl. I think it's the fifth. Yes. I have that right, the award show. So this is the, this is due to reporting by Seth Wickersham and Don Venata Jr. Just a little refresher. I have a second tweet for you. Just a little refresher about Bill Belichet in his career, OK? Here's where he is statistically, where he ranks, OK? Six Superbowls first amongst head coach, nine conference championships, first among head coaches, 31 playoff wins, 302 regular season wins, 333 total wins. Of course, that's behind Don Shula. That was the big thing he was chasing. And the line of the bottom is important as well. Doesn't include as two Superbowls as New York Giants defensive coordinator. The conspiracy theory here, out of this reporting last night, is he is serving a one-year penalty amongst voters for spygate and other controversies that happen better than in New England. Bill Polion from the arch rival at the time, Indianapolis Colts, longtime NFL executive

45:44he was with Carolina and Buffalo as well. Doesn't like Bill Belichet. Can you reportedly let everybody know that this shouldn't happen? Also, let's not forget this, that several, there's 50 voters, I believe. Yes, OK. Several of them, several of them, are longtime members of NFL media, as I go and talk about media again. Bill Belichet treated the media like crap, horrible. And I love the pettiness here, right? You look at this tweet, there's no question. He should be a first ballot all-famer. But look at the way we are with how the media gets treated, how much we hate, can't hate that. I know a lot of our viewers and listeners hate that sort of thing. But media people, they're petty. Love it. Yeah, absolutely. I'd probably do the same thing. You were a jerk to us. We're going to give you a little bit of a penalty here, Bill. And then you add that to Polion. And it kind of, I'm saying it's right.

46:45But I understand where it's coming from. Bill Polion did do an interview and claim that he doesn't believe it, but he had heard from voters that this case was against Bill. The only thing I will say, every Hall of Fame, every single one at this point, your vote should be public. I'm sorry. If you have that power of voting for Hall of Fame, you should have your ballots cast publicly for why you didn't and out with that discourage some people being part of the process, maybe. But I think you should have, I'm sorry. If you are going to do this and you're going to settle a score against Bill Belichick, you probably should have to stand behind your vote. And I would remember the media would get roasted for it. I'd be OK with somebody saying, you know what? He treated me like crap. Yeah, but OK, so then should you be voting? Probably not. Right? I mean, that's my thing. Your voting wasn't very likable. He was not. I'm not likable. Not at all. And there's the Brady factor as well. We haven't talked about that either. Where would he be without Tom Brady? OK, you just mentioned Brady.

47:46Yes. Is he going to pay this to then? Oh, because of deflate gate, spy gate. If you've set this standard now, there's no way he should be a first ballot Hall of Fame or then. Yes, but I get, again, going back to the pettiness argument, I get the feeling Brady has more respect. Oh, yeah, he wasn't as arrogant. Especially with what's, well, Tom's got some stuff going off the field as well, but what's going, this would be like, boy from the playing surface with Bill. This would be like disrespecting Scotty Bowman in hockey. Like Scotty Bowman did the same thing. One of the ton of cops did that whole nine yards. Nobody did this to Scotty. And now this guy is a nice guy. Nice guy. Well, Scotty had his detractors as well. Everyone does. But the spy gate, he's not great with the media, but it takes one or two guys to screw it up. I understand those things. But I don't know, man, it's not. I will say from a sports talk show point of view, amazing content and unbelievable content that they provided us. I think number one on the list of the reasons why

48:48I didn't get in. The allegations of cheating with spy gate, not even allegations that the spy gate and deflate gate. Now, but the person they called the deflater. Yes, but again, in both of those cases, though, there's people in NFL that are part of the NFL that don't think it's a big deal. Like the spy gate thing that a lot of teams were kind of doing what they were doing. And they just got caught. They were the only ones that got hit with the speeding ticket. Even though everyone was speeding. Same thing with the deflate gate thing. That the football issue wasn't that big of a deal, but it was made out to be a big deal. And some people said the Patriots and they were winning a lot. Right. So those stories coming out, a lot of people were deemed that they were just petty. But those stories did get out. I know, I know. It's just like I say, and I'd also be curious if the votes were being made public, then does this still happen? Probably not. Because you can hide behind, I'm a voter, but I'm not telling you I voted for. I think a lot of people might be,

49:49not a lot of people, but a number of people would be okay with, yeah, I didn't like that guy. So I'm going to let him wait for a year. I've never had for that. Yeah, but it's wrong. It's wrong. It is wrong. If you're voting on something to be that petty, you probably should not be voting right. And again, everything for me comes down to how the media is treated or what helps the media. This story is helping us. Oh, yeah, I'm all for it. Big time. Yeah, big time. He should be in on, oh, he's a little question. He's super balls. Give me a break. This was one of the numerous tweets, by the way, Torrey Ackman, the Hall of Fame, himself tweeting out a disappointing day for the pro football Hall of Fame. So there was others taking a lot. Others are, everybody will be okay. Yeah, absolutely. It's just, so he gets in next year, 12 months. Yeah. Well, I'm Tom Brady. He was on Seattle Sports Talk. Brady this morning, and he said, I mean, he's going to be a Hall of Fame. Yeah. Oh, yeah. He does, obviously, he doesn't agree with this. He says, greatest coach he ever played for, obviously. But if it's a year, it's a year, and Brady success in Tampa Bay doesn't help.

50:50Bill. Well, it's, hey, okay, no. You're saying it doesn't help Bill. Yeah, it doesn't help Bill. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, it was, it was immediate. He goes to Tampa Bay and New England falters to an extent, and Tampa Bay wins a Super Bowl with Tom Brady. Well, those same kind of murmurs are happening in Seattle with Pete Carroll. That's right. I mean, look, Pete went on. The Raiders were a disaster this season. More of them. They're what, two years removed from Pete being in Seattle, and they're back in a Super Bowl. I know the roster's been turned over and all of that, but there was that conversation of who was more wide of the franchise. And so it's quite interesting with Pete Carroll, because I know we're over time here, but it's interesting with Pete Carroll, because this style of coaching really worked for a significant period of time in the very loose environment. Yeah, and then it became a problem. And then it comes Mike McDonald, much more strict. And you see this all the time. And that works for the Seattle Super Box. So a lot of it, it's about timing. I'm taking hockey, y'all, a player's coach. You know, somebody, or then the next guy is somebody's much more flour-strict.

John Shannon, John, thanks for doing this, sir. How are you? I got in on the first ballot. Really? Are you sure? I don't know. I heard you did. All I know is I'm in a hall before a bill of check. That's all I know. There you go. There you go. Travis Green is getting in to the BC-Hockey Hall of Famer, the ceremony taking place in Pentect, and in the summer, I think we forget that, you know, because he's a long-time NHL head coach, that Travis wasn't a bad hockey player either, John. Travis was a really good hockey player. Actually, the NHLers that are going in, Josh Georges is going in, Andrew Ladd's going in. That's a year. It's a great group of former NHLers,

53:55and a junior team that won back-to-back championships in the Vernon Vipers, the 2009 Vipers, 2008. And then a guy that you will appreciate too, I think, Donnie, Malcolm Ashford. Yeah. That's going to go into the Hall of Famer this year. Yeah. Malcolm Ashford was always one of those guys when we were kids going to the connect games that, oh, not Malcolm Ashford. Come on now. He was a local guy. So he took a lot more abuse than some of the regular guys. No kidding. Absolutely. Congratulations to all of them. And Andrew is going to be on our show tomorrow. So Tuesday in Toronto, John leaves on to the 50th anniversary of Darrell Sittler's record 10.9 versus Boston. It actually happened February 7th, 1976. I guess they'll be in the Olympic break so they couldn't do it the exact date. But what do you remember about that? Not the date, John, but I think you were around then. What do you remember about that night? Not only was I around. I was in the building 50 years ago.

54:57That tells you something. I think, you know, that was a, that was a maple leaf team that a lot of people thought was going to make a little more hay than they did when, you know, guys like Lanny and Darrell and Errol Thompson was the third line made on that line. There's a couple of really good stories. One of them is from a brewing perspective. Dave Reese was the gold tender. Jerry Chievers had just come back from the WHO, the Cleveland Crusaders. And was the backup goalie. And a couple of times Don Cherry looked down the bench at him. And every time he did, Chievers put the towel over his head and turned him and said, don't you even think about it? I am not going in. The other thing was, you know, this was long before giant scoreboards, video boards. Yeah. And so in the building, if you weren't really playing, paying close attention, you weren't keeping track of how many points he got until around seven.

56:01And then, I don't know if you guys remember the old gardens, but they used to have a ticker, a giant news ticker, like the ones in Times Square at both ends of the, of the rink. And at about seven points, they started to say, Darrell Sutler now has four goals and three assists. You know, and so that's how people started to keep more track of it. And it didn't matter what Darrell did that night. The puck was going in the net. The other one is from a pure TV perspective is, it was one of the games over the years that got erased. There is not the full game. Oh, no. It does not exist. The highlights exist. The ones that you're watching now, but the whole game does not exist in its entirety anywhere in the world. It got erased in a giant purge when we changed TV formats. Not to get too technical. We've changed from two inch tape to one inch and then beta.

57:03And it got thrown into the garbage. What were people thinking back then, Jack? Is that story? They weren't. They weren't. That's a common story. Yeah, yeah. They were, and there's a whole, if you look, there's a whole window of mid to late seventies to early eighties where games don't exist. There's not the whole game that don't exist. I don't think we see it. I don't think we see enough of Bobby Orr. There's not enough Bobby Orr footage out there. And I'd imagine his games fell victim to what you were just talking about. Well, the people in Boston did a magnificent job at WSBK in Boston and then later on Nesson. They did a really good job of building the Orr library. But there are so many great stories of games and events that we do not have full games of anymore. And that really is a shame. And of course, now it's just a given. You record the game, you put it on a thumb drive and you stick it under shelf and say, I got it.

58:05That's the easy thing to do now. And even going further back with Rocket Richard and Gordy Howe, we don't see enough of them. Can you see somebody breaking Daryl's record one day? We saw Macklin Celebrini here last night. It was just amazing. Four points. Well, you know, I'd like to think that I've been witness to the most prolific goal scorers and point getters in the history of the game. And I would put Wayne and Mario at the top of that list. And they never got, they never got past eight. And they played in a time when goal tending wasn't as good as it is now. So I would be, I think we'd be shocked. I remember, I was just a kid. Red Baronson got seven goals one night in Philadelphia. And we, I think we were all in shock that a guy could score seven goals in a single game. But that was at a time when expansion was relatively new and the quality of players that were involved were as good as in the Western Conference,

59:06weren't as good as the Eastern Conference. And so that, to me, might be as much a difficult record to break as any. John, there's a picture of Elvina or rather for last night on Twitter in the press box or in their booth, they didn't look happy. There's one win in their last 15, dead last in the NHL. You know, Demp goes out. It's just been a year to forget and it's not getting better anytime soon out here. Well, first of all, they better not look happy. Yeah, well, yeah, exactly. And now with everything that's gone on and the players that have been made available, like you talked about Dan Milstein now being involved in the Evander Cain thing yesterday, Rick. You know, this team's gonna have to bottom out. This team, believe it or not, this team might have to get worse. Oh, boy. And you just don't know, but you have to prepare yourself for that in order to try to find a way to get this team

1:00:09back into some level of contention in two or three years. Look across the hall like last night. Can you imagine being a conuck player sitting on the bench looking at the San Jose sharks saying, God, I wish we had what they have. Yeah. You know, I wish we were what they are. But let's also remember the pain that San Jose went through for five or six years. Pain for five or six years and thank goodness they had an owner that didn't mind losing millions and millions and millions of dollars. Exactly. So that's the real challenge. There's no quick fix. There's no quick fix now. That's the one thing I think we're learning with what the conucks are going through. We see it with the New York Rangers as well. There's no quick fix. Yeah, there's too many teams and your second round pick is now in the 50s and 60s as opposed to back in the old days. Your second round pick was a whole lot higher. It helps. Maple Leafs, what is going on?

1:01:11They might have to be sellers here, John. They might have, and I don't think they woke up just like the conucks in the summer and think and they were going to be sellers. But what is going on in Toronto? And what would you sell? Well, UFA's OEL, Bobby McCann. I mean, these guys are... I'll tell you what, all of our equipment, Larson. Yeah, people in Vancouver don't want to hear this. All of our equipment, Larson, might be the other than Austin Matthews, the team MVP this year. Wow. He has been that good. John, you can't say that, and then you can't say that right now. That's not allowed. What do you do? That's just so conuck. You're starting a fire. And by the way, I think it's great that conucks are still paying them. So it's so unbelievable. So no, so I mean, you're right, Rick. This is gone down quickly. This was a team that, you know, 10 days ago was hot. Austin Matthews had 10 goals and 10 games. And I dare I say, Matthews is still doing his part. 3-4 points last night, but they got

1:02:12beaten by a better team last night. Buffalo was faster and was certainly more diligent on the puck all night long against the Maple Leafs. There's something wrong, yes. Have they stopped listening to Craig Barubey? Not sure.
