0:00Thanks for listening to the Donnie and Dolly podcast. Catch the show Monday through Friday, 10am to noon on check. I think you're going to want to hear this. Your local sports coverage lives here. Sure would assist to an overly curved super blade to nothing blue with John Tamer. I say that the winner of the draft lottery should be the winner of a two man loose. And Rick Dolly wall. I had a cherry tree up a little Ricky. I used to go up that tree and just sit there for hours and bunch on those cherry. Years Donnie and Dolly. 10 o'clock downtown Vancouver. We're the Paul Carson studio. Thanks for tuning in folks. It's Donnie and Dolly. The team on check. Don Taylor along with Rick Dolly wall. Ryan Henderson is our producer. He's the man at the controls or director. The voice of God. It's Derek one. How are you? Oh, it couldn't be better for getting a lot of complaints about our opening.
1:01It includes a key for sure would reference. Is that going to be changed in the near future? Right? And I'm not trying to load you up with extra work. But we are getting some complaints in the base side of resorts. Well, you're one of them because every morning when that thing played, you would never like to start with. I know. So I'll change it. Look at me though. I got to get like an unnamed clip from one of your highlights. Because I don't want to change it to like, you know, 11-6 or something. And then he's gone in a week or two. I want to do this one time. So I'm going to. Well. Pick a young kid. Who's going to be here? Like Wollander? Who knows? Maybe he had traded. I don't know. Right. The way things happen here. Wollander. Can you get that clip of me saying I loved. Yes. Maybe I should put that there are people out there. You got ripped saying that I love this contract right off the bat. And that I've changed my mind. Nothing could be further from the. Okay. From the truth.
2:01I remember arguing right right off the bat. I can't believe they're paying him 3.6 more than JT Miller. JT Miller. You did say that. Right off the bat. Right off the bat. Yeah. We had somebody digging up some archival footage yesterday. I don't know. That's the world today though. Yeah. People remember everything we say. Yeah. Good and bad. Mostly bad. Mostly bad. Mostly bad. So that's the way it goes. That's life in the broadcast world. And that's fine. Because yeah. We have receipts on the public airway. That's what the kids call it. Receipts. Yeah. Connects meanwhile. Yeah. Hosting the capitals tonight. Alex Ovechkin and the capitals. It doesn't look like Tom Wilson will return from injured reserve or Filipino. But I'm talking about the capitals here or or Filipino. Of course, those two linked because of what happened on covert 19th. Yeah. A covert 19th and watched it in Tom Wilson hits Filipino. You can argue whether or not it was late. I think most people are in this market.
3:01We'll believe it. It was late. Bottom line Filipino. That was a six documented concussion hasn't played since. Neither he or Wilson. Neither of them looks like they won't be on the ice at this. At this point. Anyway. And of course, it's strange because connect fans. Not all that happy with Tom Wilson and yet there's concern. Will he be okay for the Olympics? Yes. Right. We need Tom playing for Canada at the Olympics. Tom. We'll sit pretty tight with him. What are you talking about? Tom Wilson. We need him in the Canadian lineup in Italy. Yeah. I always find it funny how you just automatically switched to being a fan of somebody that you can't stand during an NHL season. I've been a Tom Wilson fan. Connection don't have a Tom Wilson. That's one of their biggest issues. That's why people call him. Tough Canadian kid. Tough Canadian kid. That's why people call him one of the softest teams in the NHL. They don't have a Tom Wilson. I'm nervous about him going. I'm nervous. Why? Because the rules are different.
4:01Even a hard hit. Rick. He's a top six player. I know. I know. I know. I know. I know. This isn't a cement. He's also leading them in score. I know. I know. ÄI. I know. He's leading them in score. I know. He's leading them in score. I know. I know. He's leading them in score. I know. I don't. He's leading them in score. I know. You're standing there in points and penalties. I know. It's a rare combination. I know. I'm just saying it's a different game. It is! It's a different... The Iowa. TheAAF is... Police is the game differently. He wants a Stanley Cup. Not many schools in the NHL. That's probably high level hockey. If you're the Americans, you shouldn't have Brady Kochaq on your team. Yeah. highlight real right now out of the foreign nations will be deemed not even the fights will be deemed penalties in the Olympics it's it's a lot People feel that even though Bennett's the center Wilson a winger. Yeah, he's taking his place Bennett plays an edgy game too Yeah, as well and look how valuable it was at the foreignations, but again, that's on North American soil, right?
5:03I mean that Wilson's a damn good player and I'm glad these on the Canadian team Also on October 19th in Washington Teddy Bluger scored he also got injured that game hasn't played since only two game two games so far this see Why are you snickering? No, I'm not snickering only only two games so far this season hasn't played since October 19th after playing I believe 82 games last year, but it looks like he's returning tonight Do not be surprised. I would not be surprised if Teddy Bluger returns tonight for the first time since October 19th in Washington Lower body injury believed to be it Him and him and Which is named for bird? We need to do a 30 30 on these two guys and they're you know every time Just telling you you you think basically every sports story every athlete should have these injuries shouldn't have been this long gone I have all the games I have all the respect in the world for Teddy Bluger and Derek forward But if he has planned is a 30 for 30 documentary on them. I'm probably not gonna watch anyways
6:06It looks good. I wouldn't be surprised if Teddy Bluger returns Hey, you could do a 30 for 30 on the Rutherford, Alvin regime. Oh It would be 60 for 60 or whatever it should be more than 30 for 30 you've also said that five times this week that and 30 for 30. Yes that and the 2024 draft You've been referencing. Yeah, just stop. I said 30 for 30 for the first time this week No, no, you've been sitting in a lot to third at least those injuries. They need to be looked into but anyways I'll leave it at that. What do you have on that 2024 draft? Not good. I don't think your connects will see a player or from the 2024 draft playing the nation. Well We know that Ricky's talked about a 400. Anyway, Teddy Bluger. If he returns tonight, it looks good. Don't be surprised That's your demo Boy, it looks like they are closing in on the underlining problem that has caused his issues the last two three years Shedding him down for the rest of the season is on the table
7:07But why would you play him Don? They're going to finish that last Get him 100% ready for next year when he starts earning his salary at 8.5 million Not sure yet. I can't see if he's going to require surgery Believe he has talked to multiple doctors outside of Vancouver 2 to 4 Should know globally like around the world. I can't give you the cities. It can be Bangkok China Europe, Germany. I don't know. I just know that out now. That's a 30 for 30 I just know Or maybe Valley where Kuzmenko worked out that summer. Oh, okay. No, he's done But look while he said that the other day That exactly, but we should know soon and I'm going to tell you something else If he was healthy at the trade deadline, there were teams that I think what he's shown interest That's not going to happen now. There was a vicious rumor of some media guy circulating the demo at hip surgery last week false It's not the groin or the knee But boy the hip or the hip. Well, what is it? I can't die. I can't say it's not the hip
8:08I can tell you it's not the groin or the knee, but I'll tell you it's far. Let's go back here. Okay. It's not the hip Maybe he had hip surgery somebody said he had hit before he played a throat shooting that down I'm telling you but donnie look at this you said it's not the groin the near the hip. I never said the hip You're not listening to me. I said Some guy in the media you said it didn't have hip surgery. He didn't have hip surgery last week Oh, but it could be the hip it could be the hip I'm telling you there's that the some guy said it's not the groin or the knee and the hip I'm shooting down this rumor that he had hip surgery. Okay, which is stupid and dumb If you had hip surgery, you think that they would have been kept private that long now you can't keep something Hip surgery private that long Anyways, donnie when it takes two weeks to try and figure out what the problem is Come on, man. That's a long time to come on man. What now? What do you mean dog two weeks? He got hurt Toronto They should have known the next two or three days what it is But I was just a tenth of January. Thank you
9:10And I was told they're gonna take their time figure it out and and come down to a realization What is causing and I think they're close to finding the underlying so yesterday on the show I said that it I suspect popliteus. I'm not a doctor. I don't know. Okay, well no because I because they were Popliteus is knee, isn't it? Yeah, so I've been told there's nothing easy so okay But the only reason I said that is because they're asking doctors or looking for advice from around the world and paraphrasing Patrick Elvine here, right? Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, and remember what we know about the popliteus Not much clearly But that it's a real mystery and when it comes to hockey players that it doesn't happen all that often Usually happens with soccer players So putting two to two to two and two together I'm having difficulty doing that or saying it Putting two and two together, you know, when you talk about around the world I mean, that's where you know, soccer's played globally and maybe that's where they're Where they're going for their advice regarding the poppy tea. Let's just hope they take their time do their due diligence
10:15I would like I don't know about you guys, but I think it's time to shot him down. He's at the injuries last two or three years They're dead last. They're not going to win this year. They're not they don't got to hope What is it done snowballs chance and hell? I'm making the playoffs. Yeah, so just move on open hell would work too open hell And just getting ready for next year. Yeah, they're known nine points because the jet speed the blues last night, right? So they're now nine points Behind those two teams. Yeah, exactly exactly tied for 30 So yeah You're right and by the way speaking of 30 second place And we've had some they've died down a bit But we're hoping to resurrect the interest in the draft lottery simulator. Oh, yeah And we're hoping to run that later today I mean just people love this It's sweeping the nation or at least it was when we did it on the draft simulator Lottery simulator and the connoxer going to have a super high pick this year. I think you just hurt your puppeteers there Connoxer going to have it. I encourage everybody to start looking at the top five picks in the NHL draft. Okay
11:19Start doing your what are you talking about Don do start doing your speaking of which yeah And by the way, I did the draft lottery center the tankathon website It took me 11 times before the connox one 11 times that's not good. Yeah, why are you seeing that you're just No, I just I don't it's not it's not Well negative news Rick is that they're 30 second overall. I think people people are used to that but getting back to The draft the possibility of first overall the connox recently talked with someone who might go first overall did they know? So the connoxer doing their due diligence on the top prospects for the NHL draft summer Draft this summer. I was told that they met with North Dakota defenseman Keaton Verhop this week done Former Victoria Royal. Yes, and Verhop is expected to go second or third over on the NHL draft this summer So look connox got to ramp it up. They're they're going to have a hot top pick. They got a look at the top guys Verhop if he might go second overall and this gets into again the connoxanidis centerman
12:20But if Verhop's there and they're picking second or third he's got to be considered you see six four He's a 200 pounder Don you know someone told me last night This is one of the top defenseman in the western hockey. Well, he's not in the dub anymore But coming out of the dub in the west He's good. This guy's going to be good. You say that and yet Craig button a regular on this show Has him dropping on his craigslist to sixth. Oh wow Well, but the connox got a last time I look anyways. They got to do their due diligence But they met with Verhop this week. I'm assuming in North Dakota. He loves a Craig does chase read American defenseman. I'll tell you a hot sameery. Yeah, I can confirm the connox love that guy too And then Prince George was at the LEC last week. That's another defense and there's this Carson Correll's defense But for Prince George that Patrick Elvine was checking out absolutely. They got to check out everybody in the top 10 Okay, so Brandon Astle is going to join us next speaking of the connoxan the connoxan organization He's the voice of the Abbotsford connoxan flow hockey. Is that right right? Yeah
13:22Good and we're going to talk to Brandon about what's happening with Abbots for they lost again last night. I'm going to a tough season Understandably so in the wake of the called a cup title all right and and all the call-ups and injuries and the players who graduated to the NHL but They're getting their rings wreck. Yes, they're finally. It's it's only a few months late, but hey who cares So tomorrow night Abbotsford is going to get their call the cup rings They picked tomorrow night because Vancouver and Abby have both the night off. It makes sense. So guys like Rattus, Hassan, Baines and Carlson who are in Vancouver, the connox have an opportunity to go down to Abbotsford tomorrow night and collect their American hockey league rings and good on them. Do we know what they look like? No We got to get a pitcher. Is Ryan can we get a pitcher or do we know? We I don't know yet. No, okay Is there a gala or something? So we saw the medicine hatch probably it's probably private Ryan castle fun park or something? Huh? Where are they getting the ring? What did you think they call me? Tell me where the rings are
14:25By the way that fun castle park and Abbotsford castle fun park. Yeah. Yeah, I Not so much. I think it's Abbotsford the go card not the go cards. What do they got the batting cage? Nah the cards off Harts go cards go cards. Yeah, those go cards. They're an Abbotsford are really good Yeah, and the baseball hitting thing. I did the batting cage at his Abbotsford. Yeah, boy I tell you it's not easy hitting the baseball when it's coming out yet 80 90 miles. I never The donny I go. Oh, it is. You got to go in the slowest cage. Huh? You got to go in the slowest cage Yeah, but it rattles your arm. Oh my gosh. That's why it's such a big deal when you see a player not wearing gloves So if you ever yeah, you if you ever played hardball baseball If you hit the boy it hurts it hurts. I think that was my experience The other thing the castle fun park has I haven't been there for a long time. Yeah, but an outstanding selection of 80s Video games. Oh, yeah. Oh, yes outstanding. Oh, standing pack man asteroids. Oh, that's really good Yeah, that's an adult there. It's still there. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah
15:27The second level is mainly the arcade stuff outstanding. Oh, standing go cards are nice there But back to the baseball thing respect to baseball players. I hit in a baseball It's not everyone thinks are these guys you do it three out of three out of ten times you are a multi-million 60 million a year. Yeah for big or more they fail seven times at the plate think about it And they get millions and they get millions You could do you like happy Gilmore and take it in the chest. Oh Yeah, back again push the little kid out of the way and he was getting strong for hockey season coming up Okay, here's what else is coming up on the show Is it just me DTM Z coming up in the 11 o'clock hour John Shannon is going to join it's just after 11 o'clock to talk some hockey from the 100% Hockey podcast big ride twitter guy coming up later this hour We're gonna try to fit in the tankathon NHL draft lottery simulator get ready for that wreck at all 100% okay
16:27Get your you know good luck charm whatever it is. Do you have a good luck charm? Uh, no not really. I don't fully clover I don't believe in that stuff If the connox dude Well, they'll be involved in the draft lottery. We're sure that you know usually like they you send somebody who's a good luck charm Like Trevor Linden went one year. What did he have any when did Jim go bending? He had some gift from Pat Quinn I believe I thought he had a car. Trevor did yeah, yeah, I thought he had a pack queen card. Okay, yeah, there you go Yeah, yeah, yeah, what about Jim Benning? I didn't Jim go to one of those drafts. Well, he was the GM I know but they had a horrible time, but sometimes they'll send a rep like then should go they should have an album all mask on I just remember the one year remember that they fell and then they pan to Trevor's face and he was so pissed Oh, that's so pissed. Yeah, that was the year there were 30th or 31st Yeah, yeah, and they dropped they never moved up. Yeah, never moved up not once They moved down
17:28Okay, and up next we talked about him the voice of the Abbotsford connox dude guy just so energetic you can learn a thing We all could from from Brandon. He's a good guy Brandon Astle is gonna talk to us Next thanks so much for tuning in folks. It's donny dolly the team lunch Donny and donny the team is supported by Abel auctions dot c a closing your business we can help Abel auctions specializes in helping British Columbia based business owners Close their business and sell their assets in a timely orderly manner Online events for everything from machine shop and manufacturing auctions to industrial equipment retail inventories Or any other type of business assets Abel auctions can help for a free confidential consultation on getting your business assets sold Please email sales and Abel auctions dot c a that's sales at ab li auctions dot c a
18:31It is Wednesday and all of our guests today brought to you by our title sponsor Abel auctions Abel auctions Dot c a Abbotsford connox losing last night rick four three To Laval Arbor jackeye's brother got the winning goal yeah in that game liquor mackie scored to tie it up late and then Jack I scored And they played tonight in Abbotsford those same two teams of course so Laval the rocket the Montreal Canadiens A HL uh farm team Abbotsford connox last place In the HL pacific division Never heard that before last place connox I'm not sure savvy Brandon Astle voice of the connox. He can catch them on flow hockey joins us now Brandon. Thanks for doing this sir. How are you? Always good to me back in donny starting off with some positivity. I like you Listen, I mentioned my eight yet not well listen if you if you look in our inbox
19:32I'm mr. Negative. Okay, so I'm I'm used to it. Hey listen How tough is speaking of which how tough is this season for the Abbotsford connox versus all the success last season Yeah, it's been a grind that's for sure and the season hasn't gone as planned But in the american hockey league there's always going to be a lot of challenges along the way And at the end of the day donny 18 players have off last year's colder cup roster aren't here anymore I'm including geon breezeball on that list because he hasn't he hasn't played a game They missed jet woo for a couple of months this year because he was hurt You look at what's happened on the injury front this year like both clubs van kubernetes for have just been getting hammered with injuries Um, and I know the coaches and players aren't gonna use that excuse But I will I don't care like at the end of the day You need to have your best players playing on a consistent basis in order to do well And they're just that hasn't happened this year in Abbotsford Every single player in the top 10 in scoring has been hurt this season donny and in total 15 guys have been banged up
20:36And so they've brought all sorts of players up from the ECHL whether they're affiliate in calamazoo signing pto's from other guys around the ECHL Which has Caused other players that started lower the lineup. They got elevated taken on more minutes and good on them getting an opportunity But at the end of the day if you don't have your top gunners on a consistent basis It's going to be hard to get a result in a very tough league in the american hockey league But at the end of the day a lot of teams go through this and no one's going to feel sorry for you So you just got to keep your nose to the grind still and just try to Take it one game at a time. I know it's stupid. It sounds cliche, but that's just what it's got to be right now Okay, I'm going to be positive here Brandon How should the connox organization feel about Carlson v lander sasson ratu bane's Advancing to the national hockey league and looking like they belong in the NHL right now Yeah, it's it's it's the best thing you can hope for um, this is what they're doing on a day-to-day in Abbotsford Like you'll hear from Ryan jont and you hear from anime ultra their goal every year isn't to win the calder cup
21:38It is to develop players for the Vancouver connox and obviously they go on and win the calder cup last year That is awesome. That's obviously a big goal for the team But as an organization in Abbotsford What they do every day practice video grinding in the gym They want their young players to push for spots in Vancouver and you see the graduation Of you mentioned those guys like max and leanish rsd ought to Aton v lander. I don't think he's coming back. So that's what you want to see There's going to be turnover year over year in the american hockey league And you want positive turnover where guys are going up to the NHL and staying there and making an impact I mean it feels so good to see the likes of Carlson and sasson Get some some civility Contract-wise signs some nice deals Our steep and ought to got two year contracts in the off season. So they're not going anywhere And then you look at some some young guys Man seen he pushing for a full-time spot. Tom v lander has looked outstanding Nikita tola pilo has gone up Obviously, I think on the results. He's wanted to but he's he's looked good
22:41And that's what you want that's what manny and ryan are grinding every day down in Abbotsford They want these guys to go up to Vancouver And I'll just be a warm body. They want them to have an impact and that's what we're seeing like a couple of positive stories Vancouver no question about has been the play of Carlson and sasson those guys have been themselves to be Everyday NHLers and I I can't be happy enough for them Well, the guy all eyes are on Brandon for me is la kira mackie patrick elven was in Abbotsford last night to watch him He scored the goal. I think it was the three-three goal tied it up What's going on with la kira mackie? What does he have to do to get the called up to Vancouver? Yeah, look at us big ride with some people. Yeah, let her mackie going hard to the man here to tie it up and He's doing what he does usually in Abbotsford and that's produced like he's got a point for game average right now He's only played 13 games, but he's got 13 points He scored in seven of his last 10 and at the end of the day. It's just a matter of consistency Rick Like he's got to continue to just put in the work in Abbotsford We know he can do on the offensive side of the puck His shot is all-world. He's got underrated playmaking ability. He's got high-end skill
23:45And the one thing I really like about his game is his poise of the puck Like you see a lot of young guys panic when it gets on their stick Whether it's in the D zone neutral zone on the offense on the power play sometimes it's off the stick on the stick He wants to make sure he's making the right play and he has a nice knack for making the game come to him But it's the matter of putting out together on a consistent base especially when he gets another crack in Vancouver Hopefully it's in the top six because that's where you can have a chance to flourish He's a weapon on the power play and at the end of the day He's got to play in more games and it's been unfortunate this year In Abbotsford and Vancouver he's been banged up in on a line up with illness and injury So hopefully you can get on a good run of games here and potentially get back to Vancouver and does what he does best And I put the puck in the back of the net. I clearly for me the the top prospects in Abbotsford run defense You know, you got Mancini down there You got guys going up and down and you got Kudra Yetsav who you know is going to the American Hockey League all-star game tell us about his season Yeah, Kuro's been phenomenal. He picked up right where he left off after a great rookie season and how about this 10 months fan form Rick last April
24:50He gets called up plays in his first couple NHL games He wins a call the cup in June as a rookie and then yeah, it was recently announced He's going to represent Abbotsford at the NHL all-star classic and he's still only 21 and a seventh round pick so The way he's just been able to come in every day and develop the way he has has been remarkable And it just it starts and ends with his work ethic, which is what you want to see with the young guy He doesn't expect everything anything. He earns his ice time. He plays in all situations. He blocks a ton of shots He's got some underrated skill. He's got a good a knack for funneling pucks through traffic at the blue line And one thing I know that I talked and he wants to work on this year is scoring more Especially when he has opportunities and so when you hear things like that He's someone that's a very driven individual that wants to get back to the NHL and Has that did the grind for everything that he's earned and now his his latest feather in his cap is is going to the all-star game Unfortunately right now he's banged up. He's missed the last seven games So it's a matter of getting healthy and getting back in the lineup hopefully before
25:50The all-star game and who knows if he keeps playing the way he is maybe Vancouver gives him another look Absolutely are you excited about the call their cup rings? Yeah, I get all my Abby information from Rick dolly walls x account And so when you posted that yesterday That was great to hear and especially awesome to have both teams not playing and so the guys like you mentioned Rick our Steve been ought to and max and leanest Can join their teammates for a special private function and get their rings And that's something obviously they'll be able to cherish for the rest of their lives and like I still look back at that run It still doesn't feel real. It is so weird to think that They went through such a grind to to become called to cup champions They need a lot to go your way. You need a team with a lot of mental top-ness and Just so proud of what they're able to accomplish and still look up at that banner every every night Rick at home at Rogers forum called to cup champions. It's pretty sweet. I'll tell you that for free. Are you getting your ring? Yeah
26:52Oftentimes media members do You get one Play I mean those guys are there every day putting the work in I just go up and talk about That's BS Are getting the rings so I don't really care that much. There are friends of ours in this business Yeah, who have been involved with certain organizations that have received championship rings no names mentioned Yeah, okay Yeah, well You got me you got me there. Hey, by the way, just before we let you go Cole Clayton acquired in the key for sure would deal he played last night if I'm not mistaken How do you look? Yeah, you look pretty good like two seconds in his first shift. He had a good scoring chance But that's not what he's brought to the conox organization to do He's a steady defense bin that's going to log some minutes back there do the hard things block shots clear at the front of the net Grind in the corners And he's a guy that's going to bring some veteran experience. He's he's in his fifth year in the AHL
27:55I'm hoping to grind up to the NHL and I like what I saw yesterday He can move the puck. He can skate bring some toughness. So I think he's going to be a good fit on the Abby blue line Brandon thanks for this both Rick and I and Ryan feel You should get a ring 100 percent but thanks for this we appreciate it. Come on Come on boys take it easy. You bet. We're gonna make some phone calls for you. Yeah, that'll help Thanks, Brandon Yeah Brandon asked the voice of the iWatsford connects on flow hockey They lose to LaValle Florian jackeye is the Areas Arbor's brother who scored the winner yesterday for Montreal's farm club LaValle same two teams tonight You know absolutely Absolutely Well, by the way Patrick Elbein and the rest of the connects brass was in Donnie in Abbessburg last week watching these guys and you know why they got to keep an eye on You know for a lot of reasons and trade related Reasons as well. I mean some of these guys and Abby might have you know why you know why they were there
28:58Why it's part of their job. They're done. I'm telling you there But they don't go to every Abby game last night. They were there They might have to move some of these Abby guys at the trade deadline. Yeah. Yep. Yep package them up. Maybe that's it That's it. Okay, a poll question. We haven't hit it. We'll do that next and ask to do with the connox and their coaching situation Donnie and Donnie the team Uncheck Looking for the ultimate Vancouver Island getaway head to beautiful parksville and experience the Bayside Ocean Front Resort Every stay feels like a vacation. Let's do tell everyone that he just signed for three years in Vancouver He is the fourth coach and six years in Vancouver if the connox were to let him go They would be looking for their fifth coach in seven years. That doesn't scream a very well-run organization coaches and changes a lot of things They don't scream the organization Disfunctional is what it is if you're going to have five coaches in seven years Then you out go and ask yourself about Neil's whole lander Where is he with this coach on the fourth line healthy scratch fourth coach. He's got every year
31:11It's a different message from a different coach and then he gets sent to Abbessburg different message from a different coach down there It does not help young kids when you coach when you change coaches Four times in five years dog, so you keep Adam foot if you want to let him go Why did you sign them that nails hold on hold on no, I'm not a young guys You think they like a new coach every year a different message but a different way of playing the game Different message different game plan. Oh, we're gonna play this way by the way You got to fight through that stop. It's like it's not about the line mates. It's doesn't scream a functional organization It screams up dysfunction if you're gonna change coaches every year So even if you think Adam foot's doing a poor job. I'm not saying he is or he isn't But you keep him just because you change coaches a lot in the past. Well, okay I he just signed he just signed a three-year deal and everybody wants them gone So now the next guy coming I don't know about that and I say that because then Ryan you can help me out Here and Ricky you as well. Yeah
32:13But when we run the polls of who do you blame for the connox problems? Yeah, and we always throw coaching on there and yeah owner owner from my recollection ownership and management You know finish far ahead of coaching. Yeah, and and even the players. Yeah, but that's that's just That we when we put those up, but that's that's true. Is it not? Yes, but it's essentially voting who deserves the most blame? Yeah, yeah, right? And you would go you would go with the decision makers first I see what Rick's saying in the instability, but I I don't think you should keep him based on that Like that's not that's not good either the guy's not doing a good job And also, you know trans has been hammering on about this a lot You have to flip this entire thing over new page and foot is tied to talk it Foot is tied to it's tied to Rutherford now LV right yeah, and so if you need to flip this whole sucker over That to me. I'm sorry means you got to move on from Adam foot bring in Manimo Holtra a guy that's developing your kids in Abbots for it as it is
33:19And there's a very good job and and and further Probably move on from Rutherford and Alvin and slide and Ryan Johnson and there's a brand new fresh slate with a lot of these veterans gone And there you've turned at least that page over you can sell that you can sell that to you can sell that much better Although he would have two years left in his contract. Here's another thing Yeah, we've talked about this a lot and I don't know if it's the players involved Maybe it's the assistant coaches. Yeah, I'm not sure But ultimately the head coach takes the blame For what's going on strategy wise We've seen a lot of instances this season where you'll see five players on one side of the ice And somebody on the opponents. Yeah, somebody a well opposition player wide open and he's got fire Bruce Boudreau for that Didn't they fire like a lack of structure structure? They fired Bruce Boudreau this regime because of lack of structure And you're seeing the same lack of structure now they embarrassed him too So the question is do they feel that Adam foot's
34:20Fault which they haven't talked about right they haven't said that like they did with Boudreau Or do they feel it's the players the players fault? It doesn't just come with all the losing you're doing You lose your focus as a player on the ice. I'm not sure, but we have seen that a lot We have seen that a lot. I'll tell you one thing. I now know why talk it left. I now know why talk it left the dysfunction up high The losing he saw it Quinn Hughes. He knew wasn't resigning now, you know talk it didn't quit I don't think he likes this comment. He didn't like certain contracts either and also Ricky Look, what do you sign for per year in Philadelphia five times five? Well, he was gonna get that from Vancouver He was gonna get that from Vancouver They made one hell of an offer to keep talking. He still said no He would have been the highest paid coach in the history of the Vancouver. Can I see said so wasn't money? There wasn't money. It was what I told you he knew he was wasn't coming back He knew this disaster of 32nd place was coming. He could foresee it and I think he got fired at the dysfunction I still do I do understand some people that say he quit though
35:22Well, you can't have a guy hammering on about meat pressure with pressure and all these slogans he had Plastered everywhere then the second he had an off ramp out. He went see you later by Yeah, how's that meeting pressure with pressure? How is that so you know? I know so if you want to stay talk it took the five before you So where would he talk it be right now without Quinn Hughes? Sure Yes, and the dysfunction But again, you just when you hammer on about all these things A values and all this stuff and then you leave it as soon as it gets hard Well, I get where some of those people are coming from about him quitting. I don't care So okay, and I get you've got some valid points there. We haven't mentioned one person here ownership Yeah, you think he had you think Rick talking has a lot of confidence in No, I'm sorry. That's right. No focus until now Like I yeah, I absolutely he saw a chance to move Yeah, to a place where he's very he's very familiar with very fond of this gonna pay him well
36:24That is let you know as much as people want to complain about the flyers in Philadelphia Just seemed a lot more stable in the situation here. No, they think a lot of us might might do the same thing The other thing with Rick talk it is and I'll defend him here Does he have a history of quitting on things? I don't think so not as a player not as a coach. No I know there's been some other issues off the ice like I get that but in terms of the job he's doing I don't I don't recall that I stand to I stand to be corrected But there's a lot more going on in that organization across the street than players coaches management. Yeah, absolutely Uh, by the way back to the poll question for one second. We're getting a lot of replies Uh, about you know, do you expect any foot to return a lot of replies about well, it's telling it Why did it mess something up? I'm not just assumed. That's we know no, okay Well, of course he's gonna come back next year. He's gonna win coach of the year this year as you guys Labelled him that was your that was both of you. No, no, no, I had nothing to do with that for this But anyways, you were involved. Listen. Oh, it was me earlier on in the season you had him as a jack Adams
37:28Finally, they were 500 at the time. Doesn't matter man. I'm a horrible horrible horrible team There were like three home, you know like unbelievably throwing me under the bus. Yeah, well I son of the bus I'll take the blame for for that poll question Sometimes you want to do something that's a little out of the ordinary Don't do it everybody else is doing nobody And that was a perfect example of that And I'm still hearing about it Yeah, I don't care who's coaching next year People are gonna bitch you just said you want just so I don't think that the foot should pay the price How about the guys that handed him that roster? How about the guys that hired a coach and then fired him in one season? Where's the accountability on those guys if they do it? Yeah But hold on. Where's also the accountability of these players? Well a lot of this core group is has had all of those coaches you this some of them aren't here anymore some of them aren't Pederson Besser Demko they've all they've all been he had new coaches every year new messages
38:30It's funny when he said when he talked about you know players hanging their heads and slamming the gate and you know Yeah, slamming the stick. I guess To me, you know the the poster boy for that is JT milling JT milling I got a couple of goals last night. Winnipeg haven't have Yes, okay. Yeah classic example right and so I'm thinking who's like that? Right now who's who's giving up who's who's displaying bad body language people are gonna Keep a real close eye in this team right now to see who it is Who the I mean we have suspects. I also don't really like him saying slamming the gate and stuff I mean he There in 30 second place nobody's happy. That's what I mean though like I don't need it to if maybe if it's happening I guess night in night out you don't like it But I mean, I don't know if you're competitive dude and you miss an open net. You're gonna come back to the convention What did he say though? Ryan he said and I totally agree with this Adam foot said when the opposition sees that They know they fight on their bench. We got them sure we got them
39:31And I know people might not but it doesn't speak to analytics or things like that But it it plays a part in helping the opposition the bad body languages for the young kids If Orlando sees a veteran doing it, he's gonna think it's okay to do it as well But you need good veterans Donnie and I've talked about Trevor Linda when he got here, you know, Harold snaps Yeah, and Pac-win made a great trade to get Ryan Walter and they taught him how to be a good pro on and off the ice That's the type of guys they need guys like Harold snaps and guys got back. No, but guys like No, I mean I don't teach the young kids to how to be good pros and all on and off the ice But again, if you miss an open net or something and come back to the bench and break your stick To me, that's just a competitive guy, but he also did reference years now remember he said Yeah, and going off with years now and almost like a thought like you just did throwing talk at under the bus a bit a little bit Talked it is best. Yeah, you do really. Oh my god. You just went with the talk. Did you? No, he's a good guy
40:33I'm not gonna lie to you. I'm telling you right now. Okay, good job here. Brennan Bachelors has tweeted out the lines. We'll get to that on the next open segment We're also going to play the draft lottery simulator with them 30 second and nine points out of 31st I think it's not a bad idea. Meanwhile business Me oh, yeah Like every day at this time Tuesday able auctions will sell the contents Rick, I know you're interested in this a closed cabinet shop. Yeah, big. I love cabinets with You have you have a collection house are good. Yeah, because that's where you got to put all your stuff Is this like a mind my strange addiction thing we got going on here? Yeah You in a cabinet like cabinet. Yeah, who does like cabinet? Mary is cabinet Later that night Yeah The spoon was born cabinets are great The great put stuff in right little bird houses. Yeah, I closed a cabinet shop
41:34With all major equipment manufactured in 2023 not that long ago and in near new condition Wednesday able auctions will sub 40 mini ex there's no cabinets you have showing cabinet that my strings addiction show is just crazy You know like I've never heard so much about exhaust pipes Wednesday they're selling 40 mini excavators and tractors over two million dollars in building supplies cars trucks Forklifts and a lot more for information on these two auctions or dozens of other auctions go to able auctions dot c a BLA auctions dot c a John Shannon top of the hour big ride next Donnie Donnie the team on check I Can and north thank cover just before we get to big ride the truth put a guy Bayside ocean front resort a inbox can we need to keep foot for the tank next year as well. Don't mess with a good thing
42:37So there's that thinking out there as well. There's a lot of people DuPont is out there better on that thinking of don't mess with him He he he is done this job of getting them to 30 second. Don't bring in somebody that's going to screw that out But the underlining problem is when you are going to be bad and you're in a rebuild you need to coach you can develop young kids Yeah, and if he's not going to develop the young kids then it could go backwards So that's the biggest key if you're going to keep them you better play the kids in the right spots Play the hell out of them because they're going to be crappy next year. That's a big thing developing the kids a la mani mahotra That's who I look at you. I mean the bright spots on there's not many the positive news on this Team this organ for this organization few and for far between but those avatars for the players I can't they don't look out of place. I'm not sure what's happening with rsd bans but Ratio is heavily scratched tonight, but sasson and Carlson have looked great
43:37Sasson's Villainers look good and they look like they belong mancini dpd. Yeah Yeah, you know, I know I mean And I know there's been some going up and down, but they don't look out of place. Yeah, that's I think speaks to the job It's being done down on abyss for right. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Oh, okay. I speaking of young players Prospects, I'm would say the Vancouver Giants moments ago. I just want to get this in They announced four members of their team are going to be part of the team west for the WHO top prospects game happening over the LEC on February the 18th Ryan Lynn Joe again, who's yet to play a game for the Giants the G-men he came over at the trade deadline Mathis Preston and Brett Olson four Giants named to team west the WHO prospects game We should mention Giants head coach Parker Burgus He's also an assistant coach for team west at the top prospects game happening February 18th at the LEC sadly for the Giants Lynn is hurt Preston's hurt and again less hurt. Yeah, again like when he before he came over from Edmonton was hurt before the trade
44:41He should have been playing this year, but anyways The sad part of this tweet is a lot of these guys are banged up right now. Yeah, we'll see if they make it I think it was I think we're coming up on a one week since the Lynn and Preston injuries and I think it would could be three weeks Told that cheap shot he took yeah, yeah big time big time right big time So anyway, February the 18th top prospects game happening out at the LEC the G-men will be involved in that Also speaking of injuries Just before we came on the air today. We have our first Olympic substitution USA USA hockey now it's a Seth Jones out with an upper body injury He's being replaced by Jackson Lakoma. Yeah of the ducks Danaheim So he is taking a Seth Seth place at the Olympics and a little Panthers Depend yeah, the Panthers is just ridiculous. I have points out of a playoffs, but right now farcoff hasn't come back Just got back. Marshawn has been out. He's coming back soon
45:42Uh, honestly five points out with the those big injuries and it's pretty impressive Keep in mind to to make matters worse for them Chicago owns their pick. Yeah, yeah, I mean it's a first. Well, no, they missed the playoffs and the Blackhawks have two shots at the lottery But what do they do last year? Who cares? The Panthers you want to cop who cares? I don't care if you're a panthers fan You think any panthers fan is caring about that draft pick right now caring? Yes, why you got a cup out of it Who cares? Oh the draft pick. Yeah, yeah missing the playoffs. Oh, yeah, yeah sure, but the draft pick whatever we got A stand another stand the cup out of it. Whatever. I don't care. Yes except for this Matthew Shafer Islanders moving up 10 spots. Yeah, that's the big one Sure, but do you tell me I've got a chance? Gavin McKenna going first overall to the Florida Panthers Just Chicago But if they had the pick oh right if they hadn't anyway, that was good tap dancing there But that's the other thing about this year's draft what did you we don't know who's going first? No
46:46Conor Bedard. We knew it was going to go first. Yes, Conor McDavid. We knew it was going to go first Well, Shafer we knew despite not playing much in the Ontario Hockey League We knew he was going to go first boy this year is up in the air guys and of course that this is a year that the the can I see a chance to Drop first overall you want it you want to you want a guy at number one that's been there coach to coach and you know is gonna Turn your it's not there the well button is pretty hard on McKenna Easy Strong There's a visual button is strong on McKenna that is for sure But yeah, you are getting different opinions of the prospects We just get started on a lot of scum. Yeah, yeah, they think that Stenberg is more NH already Than McKenna. Yeah, by the way his his numbers on hockey database Uh, heightwise are completely wrong apparently Stenberg. Yeah, he's listed at five eight or five nine Yeah, he's got five eight. He's sprouted. Yeah, he's not five eight since then which is not wrong with being five eight
47:47We're all five eight at some point Well, we all were if you're a pet your past five eight. Yeah, I know how we're past five eight There's nothing wrong with being five eight, but what I'm saying is he's not five eight He's listed five eight one fifty four. He looked way bigger. Oh, it's way bigger than that And he's in the sweetest top lead. Yeah, putting up numbers. Are you kidding me? Yeah Ah, okay, you're all five eight at one point. I remember when I was five eight. Yeah Uh five eight, huh not wrong would be in five eight coming up next I don't know how to hear the NBA be proud. You're the no number the guy in the empty folks by folks No What was his name? What was his name? Lippes-Head home. No, Maxie Boaks. Maxie Boaks. Remember, Maxie Boaks He did he was five. What was he five five? I'm gonna find out right now. Google it. Google it But uh, Maxie was small He was small. I hate this go to Wikipedia. That's why five point five point five three five three
48:54Yeah, and he played a long time in the NBA. Well, the great shots are his former teammate Manu Bol Yeah, his pictures of the two of them standing together just out standing. I didn't realize he was five three Mugsie, of course, in the original space jam cast as well, and I think Mugsie could dunk He could dunk at five or just spud web Spud web that was Mugsie would need a trampoline like super grisby's using. Can you show a picture of Bugsie? Oh, but like people need to see this like he was five three and he played a lot of years. Show them one of Manu Bol Five, look at this Scotty five three didn't didn't get a point scar Derrick is an NBA guy didn't spud web win this land Spud contest. Yeah, I remember spud land a hawk. Yeah, Atlanta hawks. Yeah, Ryan. How long to find Mugsie or Mugsie Boaks Or if you could find someone named Bugsie There you go right there and that's yeah, look at that Like you can almost put Mugsie on his two of them Shoulders yeah And you could the same. That's wild. Yeah, fascinating five seven for Spud web. He's a giant
49:59Yeah, no kidding. I have no idea how tall John Shannon is so I don't have a segway or Five Mugsie he was five eight one time. We all wear Shannon's next Donnie Donnie to team on check Hey, everyone. It's Donnie and Donnie and we're looking to partner with your company We have several packages and price points to fit your budget and spread the word about your company on the show in our podcast and On social media. We'd love to get involved with your company called 250 880 2282 or email advertise at checkmedia.ca I'm still getting over a Mugsie Boaks being five three like I knew he was sure but they just I guess I guess I knew that but it I forgot we can't find Mugsie Boaks I'm sure John Shannon is really happy We can't find him dunking in the NBA But there is one highlight of him blocking A Patrick Ewing it attempt at a tongue amazing
51:01Yeah, wow or lay up whatever the case just what what an athlete Bet you never thought you'd be hearing about Mugsie Boaks today or Bugsie moaks Folks all of our guests today including John Shannon brought you by our title sponsor Abel auctions Abel auctions.ca join now by John Shannon from the 100% hockey podcast 100% Connux and in O'John you remember Mugsie Boaks. Yeah Oh absolutely in fact met Mugsie Boaks what a towered over him Which you know maybe feel really good my wife and I were In Los Angeles I was down there for some work and we happened to be saying at the same hotel as the Charlotte Hornets Oh, yes When when Mugsie was playing there and and my wife got on and and there was three or four of the members of the Hornets on the team But she turned and looked and said you're Mugsie Boaks aren't you yeah, yeah And so there's the only NBA player she knew at that time was Mugsie Boaks Well, I wasn't just about on the court for him
52:02John it was off the court because he was often you seen in commercials Yeah, well, he was he was a personality. I'll tell you what he played a short time in Toronto Uh, and was uh and the fans loved him He was loved every everywhere he played by the way the answer to the question that Rick's gonna ask me is grade eight Grade eight come on. Yep. He's talking about a height Oh, you were five eight and grade eight Yeah, oh wow I was I was five eight and grade eight. Oh wow Unfortunately, I was five eight when I was in university Yeah At all over high. Yeah, right? Is that right? Is that what they call so token obvious secondary? Okay. Oh beautiful. Oh my the hornets There you go. Wow. There you go hornets gets mentioned twice in the first two minutes of this interview How standing is that? Hey John you're a BC boys We just talked about from all of our 11th straight losses for the connox the rebuild is on where does this rank? All-time in terms of dark periods for the Vancouver connox hockey club
53:08uh I don't I don't think it's as bad as some of the things I think I remember Donnie because and and take this the right way uh connock fans At least people are still showing up. Yeah Uh, yeah, and and you know and Don you will remember this and maybe Rick you too, but uh, you know those few years at the Coliseum When the Griffiths family still owned the hockey club and you'd look and you know those brilliant red seats were not very full And you know, and that was the problem when you had two different colored seats You had the reds in the lower half and and the blues in the top half and you saw that a red and blue In 8200 8300 If four games and you started to wonder and We know this is true. You started to wonder what the future of the connox as a franchise in Vancouver We're going to be and thank goodness the Griffith stuck through it uh, you know, they spent a lot of money and lost a lot of money at times in keeping the connox afloat
54:10But um, I I think those were much more troubling times Uh, both on and off the ice for the hockey club as to what as opposed to what we see today and and one of the reasons is Uh The talent that comes into the league so much quicker now. Yeah, that you can have a turnaround I mean dare dare I Ask anybody and we watch the islanders the other night I didn't think anyone any of us expected oh the islanders to be this good and and it's on the on the heels of of one player an 18 year old So I think that has to Give connox fans a little bit of hope for the future Yeah, let's not forget to the messier era The 25 cent phone call era with which which wasn't all that great either but You're right john. It's about I think you nailed it. It's about attendance here And then the back in the days in the 80s there there was nobody at the call scene. Oh much darker Hey, do you like them? We'll buy the sharks to grab key for sure would it speaks to uh, Mike we're saying hey
55:14Here's a gift guys you're in a plough spot. Let's go Uh, well, I think sure would could help any contender Uh, he he's not going to change the way he plays the game So he's going to be aggressive Uh, you know the the the the Vancouver version of this is he finally blossomed as an NHL or in Vancouver when he was given the chance Uh, by Rick talk it And and now he's going to move on and prove that he belongs On a regular basis uh, and an NHL team and and we'll get a long-term contract whether that be in San Jose Or whether this summer it'll be somewhere else. So I mean yet you have to know and You know if he can control himself. He's going to be a quality contender if they make the playoffs because that's what this is about Is finding bodies that can get the sharks to the playoffs and then see what how much damage they can do John you've known Jim Rutherford for years and years and years Last week he said that you know, he's kind of saying like I'll be here next year, but after that I don't know
56:20Well, what do you think his appetite? Yeah, I mean he's getting up there in age. We know that we all are But uh, what's your what do you think his appetite is for staying around long because we know this is a rebuild it could get ugly for a few years Oh first I haven't talked to Jimmy about it um And and so this is me just Trying to connect some dots. Yeah I don't know a more competitive person in my life than Jim Rutherford Uh, and I will tell you right now that has not changed from the time that I watched him play goal for Detroit or Toronto To the time I To the time that he's been in the executive suite with the Vancouver Canucks This guy is as competitive As anybody in the game Age does not change that So, uh, this I'm sure this is a a troubling time for him And probably a more determining time for him to say okay
57:22I'm going to help this organization Turn around and somehow some way be part of the turnaround And then leave at an appropriate time not necessarily putting a timetable on it But leave at a point which I don't even think that that's even Contemplatable at this point because there's there's building blocks still to be put in place For the reconstruction of this hockey club Uh, yesterday Linus all Mark talked to the media for the first time to since taken his leave of absence He talked about his mental health. We really don't know what these guys are going through as soon as we hear A leave of absence. We think of the worst. You know, I he's you know, it's alcohol related or whatever We don't know what these guys go through But you know, what did you think of him coming out and saying it was mental health Well, first of all, I mean it was a compelling 26 minutes Rick. Yeah, yeah absolutely Gut wrenching at times that what you heard him say and what he's been through and what his family has been through
58:26Remember there there are there really are two stories in all of this first of all There is the original story of him phoning the program and saying I need help And getting through it and then there was this you know The rumor after rumor after rumor that got put on to social media Yes, that had a that had much more massive influence To many people and you know was a terrible thing for his for he and his family And his friends to go through yes So yesterday to me was more about the initial Diagnosis whether it was a self diagnosis that he needed to go into the program and then how to get out of it By the way in in listening to him and watching watching him I'm still not sure when he's coming back. Right. I don't think he knows when he's coming back And you can only hope that what he's done is Create awareness for people who have Similar scenarios and that they're not afraid to ape speak publicly about it or be go get some help
59:29So there there's a couple of ways to look at it. You can only hope at some point That Linus Olmark is back in the NHL back playing for the Ottawa Senators But in terms of really what he's gone through that's not as important as him being mentally healthy And as he talked about being a good husband and a being a good father And John before you let you go Hockey night in Canada holds hockey day in Canada Saturday in Monkton The weather was absent the backdrop was absolutely perfect for that broadcast What do you remember about the beginnings of hockey day in Canada Back back in the day when you were with hockey night in Canada Well, when we built the first hockey day in Canada Format and set We decided to do it just outside of the CBC office in Toronto There's a beautiful promenade That we had permission to to create a nice surface and we didn't have Dan Craig from the NHL to help us
1:00:31So I think I think I think we found a trucker from Brampton who said he could make ice Um And and you know we spent a week building this ice surface and it was a nice big round ice surface that people could skate on and it looked pretty good And then it went to plus seven On the day on the day of the event so So by the second half of the show all I remember is Ron McClain wasn't skating he was swimming Um, but that said that was uh That was a monumental day for us to try to Celebrate the game of hockey and and and and pay some tribute to a lot of people Across the country who give so much to the game without getting compensated And and well beyond what happens at the NHL level or at the hockey Canada level, but people who really Love the game and live the game And makes a part of our fabric of our country so great You should have hired mungsy boggs is your ice maker john then everything would have been fine
1:01:32He mugs him would have done a better job than the trucker from I can play that right now All right john next week. Thanks so much for this sir Cheers boys, you bet uh john chan and one hundred percent hockey podcast one hundred percent connox We've said what he just said on this show. Yeah, that it's dark for the connox right now People are showing up. I know there's some empty seats, but not like the eighties There was a whole lot of there was a whole lot of people disguised as red and blue seats back there Seven eight thousand Yeah, I was there, you know covec nord-eaks in town and there'd be eight nine thousand Well, the the regretful part for a lot of people are ages Especially my age back then is that you tickets were easy to come by back there And gretski gretski and then eventually Lemieux they were in their primes. Oh, yes And it's a lot of people passed up seeing those guys because the connox were so bad so bad Okay, uh I've got business or no, I don't have business. We're gonna take a break and We'll do business in the next segment and you know, we'll deal with the poll question next and draft lottery simulator

1:03:37Roger's arena rick right get her up the waddling dog pull quest and the expect Adam foot to return is Head coach of the connox next year look at this 71% say no 29% say yes 1,000 votes already starting to hop and pop on a Wednesday morning and not stop But here's the other thing about getting rid of Adam foot. He's year one into a three-year deal So now the owner has to pay the final two years at 1.5 million well done 1.5 million 1.5 he's got to pay three million for him not to coach in Vancouver. Well, this worked out with O.A.L Well exactly and it's and Patterson if you're going to trade him I'm going to presume another team is going to want retention two to three million On retention with Patterson. Do you want to pay somebody? Donnie if you own the business not do you want to pay somebody to not work for you and pay them? It's not a lot of check feel that way about some of the people in this studio It's not a lot of fun to not pay someone to not work for you. Okay, someone fun for that person who's signed off on Adam foot though
1:04:41Who signed it would have been Rutherford Elvine And in the owner because the owner has to prove the salary. Okay, so you signed off on a guy with no coaching experience Right essentially why did they hire Adam? He's cheap. So I know that there was a yes. Okay, that's probably part of it. I get that He was also of the Quinn Hughes situation, and that's not I don't think that's why you hired a hire ahead No, but so my point is though if you're signing off on these moves Then you also got to sit in that bed if the move goes bad Like I'm sorry. You can't cry now and go we have it now. We got to pay me this guy three million Well, maybe you see his the more you're paying people, you know, get more you're paying buyouts and things like that It hurts your chances of building a practice facility Um And it's easy to say but it's really tough To say we're gonna fire foot and pay him three million nut to coach here That three million is not coming out of your pocket Ryan
1:05:43But you may they're paying OEL But 4.5 million this year who signed out successful in Toronto who signed off on that Not these guys. Oh, they they they they signed off on the buyout. Yes. That's what I'm saying which you know But the OEL the OEL story is the one of the most connect stories. Oh, he's I think it's all time Yeah, it is the fact that he would be leading them and points right now The fact is one Stanley cop has gotten like he's received two contracts being brought up on top of the bought out He is my So so there's that we're getting off the subject here. We got it. We got to get to I'm thinking we're not gonna have time for the simulator today. Yeah, I don't Okay, there's a lot of time left We're gonna have a lot of time in this fill On these shows. Yes, this theme is so bad. Not necessarily today. Yeah Line up line up line up for tonight Can I back to the watch Kevin? No, and uh, Brad bachelor. Who's Kevin bachelor? I don't know. He's related to bugsy moaks
1:06:48Okay, so look we got changes tonight. Teddy Bluger for the first time since October 19th is gonna play in Washington It went sedantly enough and that's the night. He'll got hurt Okay, so keep an eye on Bluger because People you need to know this Bluger's a UFA dawn and they need to play him because he's going to be one of the guys That they're going to eventually move before the trade deadline. Yes, you need to get them Teams are going to look at Bluger as a veteran adept guy for playoff teams. It's like that exactly done So Kane with Patterson and Debross O'Connor with Camp and Bessar O'Grinn with Bluger and Garland Hoaglander with Sasan and Carlson. You do the defense EP25 a liest Patterson with Heronic who is I don't think it's arguable been the best connox since the Hughes trade. Oh, yeah William and Myers on that second pairing and MP29 and Tom Vlander as far as the extras go Baines Heidel and Pio Joseph and Ratu should be on that list. Ratu should be on that list. Yeah, so
1:07:52Because Bluger comes back Ratu has to sit and if Heidel comes back soon, Donnie There's gonna be another young centerman that's gonna be pushed to the back of the bus as well Connux capitals tonight O.V. in town 20 goals for a 24 he's been the NHL for 21 seasons 21 seasons of 20 goals or more of course there's been 40 and 50 and 60 goals seasons in their own This might be the last game for a Vetchkin ever in Vancouver. I don't know now. He's played the connox 30 times And he escorted a whack of goals against Vancouver no question So if it is the last time give him a good round of 40 years old. Yeah, but that's right. He's at 917 Goals career. Yeah, all-time best in the national hockey league 20 goals slowing down, but still 20 goals and counting Do you think he goes for a thousand maybe not in Washington because he is a UFA in the in the summer Can't see him leaving that team, but I just wonder they have talked to him about staying and they've had general talks about
1:08:57Resigning in Washington. I don't think he goes anywhere done. He's played in his entire career I don't think that's the the question is with will he want to stay for one thousand goals? Yeah, I would I just think that's why I would drive It would be huge. Yeah, and I think I think a lot of players on that team enjoy playing for Spencer Carberry Absolutely Pride of Victoria Pride of Vancouver Island. Okay, you've got some business. 1:16:22Traded to the connox in 86 would tie Trevor Linden with a team leading seven points in seven games in the 89 playoffs 1990 the connox most exciting player award winner come on Taylor Bosek. No, it's not Steve Bosek. Are you kidding me? 1991 traded to the Maple Leafs for Tom Kerber's the Maple Leafs The Maple Leafs Tom Kerber's uh he would then be traded to Tampa Bay Brian Bradley Brian Brad. Yeah, I knew as soon as I said Tampa Bay and he led Tampa Bay and Scrooing I think the first three or four years of their existence. He's got the record for most goals by in on his fancy team 42 Uh Brian Bradley. Who doesn't remember Brian Bradley? He's dad was a scout for the Boston Brits That's right uh right here and he won a cup with them in 2011 Abysford his dad then lives out in Abysford All right, he was the second round pick of the Rangers in 1990 led the world juniors in Scrooing in 1991 Want to stand the cup with the Hurricanes and uh Jim Rutherford in 2006 Part of the victorious team USA team at the 96 World Cup of Hockey

Drafted by the Rangers? Rangers former captain of the orders or flames That's right. Doug wait. Doug wait. Doug. Wait. Doug. Wait. I forgot. He was captain in And he's big numbers seven years in Edmonton. I know, but that's wild to me Yeah, and it was one of those guys him and Fleur They had to be traded because Edmonton Calgary couldn't afford their salaries anymore. Yeah and Didn't the Hurricanes pick up and this is Jim Rutherford Yeah, it was right. Doug Wade and Mark Recky. Remember him playing there? It seems so strange to see them Lifting the Stanley Cup for the Hurricanes and Jim made some great trades to win that Cup in Carolina in 2006 Okay, he did well. What are you talking about? You're gonna deny you made sure I'm wondering what's happening these next 20 years ago Denai made good trades to win that Cup in Carolina. 20 years ago. He might have okay Anyways last one this American I'm thinking about picking up Doug Wade again
1:18:25This American actress had an IQ of 140 that is gifted That is She's not gonna be in TV or radio That is gifted IQ. That's near genius range. Okay. I know this. Okay. No, I stop it. Don't sit. I know this because that's very well That's been talking about she competed on the US Olympic Gina Davis Gina Davis, but her best movie was Thelma and Louise the fly. No, stop now. Thelma and Louise. No, no, no That's cliche. The fly was her best movie. Donnie. I think she was going out with Jeff Goblum. They were they're married. They were going out, but Thelma they're married and going. No, they were married and they're going out Thelma Louise it was okay. Don't You're gonna shoot down Thelma Louise Overrated ending in the history of the blue off the cliff. 1:20:30Is it just me it's next You Is it just me Rick Bayside OSHA front resort inbox all right. Here we go I say I said one of the Sydney twins are both if they're allowed for the lottery Jeff and Porto Bernie I think that would be a great idea Yeah, but we do everything together. They radiate positivity the Sydney twins I would agree and there was a lot of good luck going around when they were on the ice for the connoisse No, no question of that You gotta go here a little behind. I said just me does connoisse management having a brains to build the tougher team with the rebuild Are they gonna put together another soft three-ply Toilet paper light up no more soft teams ed from white rock Coming in he what I looked on he I'm serious. I'm with that
1:21:32Like the connoisseur generally known is one of the softest teams in the NHL right now And there's just not enough grit and tough for us anywhere in the lineup I need some help with this one. This is from Amrit. It's very good Is it just me or with the best case scenario this year Be the connoisse falling to second in the draft lottery. They wouldn't have the number one. They wouldn't have to choose between Stenberg and McKenna. I think Amrit is just Assuming things wouldn't go well for them too if they win the lottery this season They wouldn't be eligible for the draft lottery next season due to any shall rule changes so they wouldn't miss out On on dew point I think this is about advancing I I I stand to be correct corrected here, but the new rules came in in what 2022? I believe yeah And there's a limitation on how much you can advance But you're not advancing if you keep finishing 30 second and winning the lottery. Yes I agree does it make any sense? Um, I'll tell you one thing. That's a long text by Amrit
1:22:34But I will say one thing he will look into it. He's he's right about that dew point kid in in Everett right now I don't know if the kids gonna go in CWA or not exceptional status exceptional status that kid in Everett right now Is a phenomenal defenseman phenomenal. Yeah Well, what I got is we need a clean slate many Maholtra good coach Ryan Johnson GM Reg in Ashcroft wants to tear it right down new coach new GM Ryan mentioned that earlier in in the show and not the first person to talk about that But it seems like there are people In the current organization that a lot of people feel would do a pretty good job If they advance to the big club and that's many and Many Maholtra. Well, they're gonna have a lot of explaining to do this management team that hired Adam foot if they fire him after one year Okay, is it just me Martin and Northburned me but when it comes to celebrity handshakes my most memorable one was Hulk Hogan
1:23:36He had hands the size of a baseball glove But thankfully didn't crush my hand like Todd Bertuzzi did to Rick Hulk Hogan was a big guy Oh boy was he ever big is the thing is with Hulk Hogan though. Yeah, is one of my You know when I was kind of into into wrestling I always remember him in the ring with Andre the giant when he looked like mugs. He boaks. Oh, yes Because Andre the reality is the Hulk Hogan was massive while Andre the giant was one of the wonders of the world Yeah, he was one of the absolutely Look at this saw Tony Robbins at the keg and Walnut Grove one time Kevin Langley why would Tony Robbins be at the keg and Walnut Grove did they have a connection there. He has a connection. No, he does those seminars So maybe he was doing a seminar. Didn't that did in that sub Vancouver in that submission They mentioned he's got a seminar. Oh, all right. He's got a connection. He's got a connection to the Walnut Grove area I say we claim him is one that that's right around the corner for me man. I could have used his
1:24:40Just you need that working on the show the most negative guy in this building So you need to read his books on positivity By the way Just a pause and is it just me for a second it looks as though Tom Wilson is back in the line of the capital So he's playing today. Yeah, looks like he's gonna make his return the notorious Tom Wilson, but no fill appeal No Yeah, is it just me? I gosh. I that's one return that I'm not looking forward to I hate to say it Filipino return to the NHL I know he all your spirit. I think was positive on Sunday when he talked to the media We haven't run those clips yet. Yeah, but you just can't help but be be worried for him as a person Yeah, not necessarily as a hockey player Yeah, it's not his first or second concussion We're talking up to seven eight nine in his career including junior Six six documented six Rick. I think at the pro level But I we always say this it's you know, that's not taking into account what may or may not have happened in juniors
1:25:41In college minor hiding happens. Yeah, and Donnie too and Vancouver remember Dickinson hit him from behind And now the one in Washington. Yeah with Vancouver. Yeah, yeah, you know, so hey you guys said the connoxious and bubbly to the draft Yeah, I like that next time we have Michael on the show We'll ask him if he'd be he totally would love that. Yeah, right Maybe he could uh, you know, it'd be good as if Frank Sirivelli represented the Philadelphia Flyers. That's where he he's from well We're not getting frank on the show. I'll tell you that much and that's because of you That's not because of me and And uh, Michael represents the Vancouver connox is it just me Unsigned or I wonder if Gavin McKenna is absolutely dreading the fact He might get drafted by the connoxious team that doesn't care about protecting their star assets Speaking of protecting star assets. Yeah, did you see What happened Jersey versus Oilers yesterday and I can't remember the name of the devil's player
1:26:44Hit Conor McDavid the middle of the ice Did he pay the price the silly put calls and cantoes defense. It did a pretty good job Where did uh, how do we know of a silly putt calls it It leads the Oilers and game winning goals Yeah Just saying cova-sevac was the player in there. He was putt calls and who came to his defense and did pretty pretty good job Not enough for this in Vancouver the last few years and every year we get taxed Don D in the NIMO That you know just sent one uh connoxer too soft, you know It's kind of hard for a connox fan to watch something to watch something something of this The Oilers lost but you know kuzmeko scored for the kings the kings last night I think jt miller got a couple of goals in a losing cause for for the rangers and that's not a case of a tough guy defending Conor That's a guy on the ice that said you know what that's her but best better. You can't do that You can't do that Marcus Patterson and Max Domey. Yeah, in Toronto. January 10th. There you go The good We'll take a break. We'll wrap up the show and the poll question next Donnie's on the team on check
