0:00Thanks for listening to the Donnie and Dolly podcast. Catch the show Monday through Friday, 10am to noon on check. I think you're going to want to hear this. Your local sports coverage lives here. Sure would assist to an overly curved super blade to nothing blue with John Taylor. I say that the winner of the draft lottery should be the winner of a two-man loose. And Rick Dolly wall. I had a cherry tree up a little Ricky. I used to go up that tree and just sit there for hours and munch on those cherry. Years Donnie and Dolly. 10 o'clock in downtown Vancouver. We're on the Paul Carson's video. Thanks for tuning in folks. It's Donnie and Dolly the team on check. Don Taylor along with Rick Dolly wall. Ryan Henderson is our producer. He's the man that the controls are director. The voice of God is Derek Wong. How are you? Oh, lovely. Couldn't be better. Okay, before we start talking about the connox.

1:00Yeah. And yet another loss for them. I want to mention that another member of the Francesco Aqualini family of businesses. Vancouver Warriors, the three in one. They're off to a good start of the national lacrosse league. They host San Diego Friday. The San Diego Seals at Rogers Arena. It's Country Night at Rogers Arena. Garth Brooks. Get out your bowl. Oh, Garth Brooks. Are you kidding? Roll the thunder? What's the song called? I'll think Garth is playing. Okay, but I know Garth. Friends in low places. No, Thunder Roll. That's the Thunder Roll. What a great song. Thunder Roll. Yeah. Okay, Warriors Friday night against San Diego. And they literally just announced they've opened the upper bowl. There you go. Get out there lacrosse fans and watch some good lacrosse Friday. And maybe you'll hear some Garth Brooks. Also before we get to the connox, you had a correction to make from yesterday, is that right?

2:00I just, Ryan thought, okay, happy 43rd birthday to Josh from Sanage. Yesterday, Ryan thought he was from Qualcomm, but he's not. We screwed up the birthday yesterday. Yeah, picture? No, we don't have picture. Happy birthday, Josh from Sanage. Not Qualcomm. Ryan screwed up the birthday. Hi. And we're here to fix all our mistakes. If we fixed all our mistakes, it'd be a six hour show. Or just, just my mistakes would be six hour shows. Anyways, Josh. Okay, let's get to the highlights last night. If you want to call them that connox and auto, it was a close game. I'll give the connox to that. Yeah. We had another loss, a bottom line. But let's go to Canada, Ontario last night. Derek, we're good. Rock and roll. Kennedy and Tara Center, Canada, Ontario, picking up 15 minutes in out the face up. Putt goes to Artem Zub. Short side on Kevin Lankanen. One nothing. Senators to Ottawa.

3:0015 seconds later. Deja Vu or Deja Zub off the face off. Putt goes to the right side. D again. This time it's Jordan Spence beating Lankanen. Trivia fans. Jordan Spence. Japanese Canadian demand. Born in Australia. Two nothing Senators. Second period. Four and a half minutes in. Kevin Lankanen. With enormous saves of Claude Drew and Dylan Cousins. Nothing wrong with the way Kevin Lankanen played. 38 saves on the night. Many of the spectacular variety stays to zip. Early third, Dylan Cousins. Turns the puck over to Lena's Carlson. Into the slot for Elias Pedersen. He snaps in his fourth goal in six games. But that's as close. As they come. Connox lose their eighth in a row. Two on Ottawa. Connox and Columbus on Thursday. Rick. Kevin Lankanen. The only reason that came close. 18 saves second period. Connox were out shot. Are you ready for that? They had given up 32 shots after two periods of play. Montreal had over 40 shots. These guys Ottawa had over 40 shots.

4:01You know, Zee Williams back. Well, Anders out. So yesterday he was back. Well, you could thank Lankanen last night. Especially for keeping it close. But again, it goes close. Another loss. So eight straight losses. We talked about this yesterday. The club record is 10. And I realized there were ties back then. So it's a little bit different. Bottom line though. The club record is 10 straight losses. So there are two losses away from tying a club record. How about that? Put that in your pipe. And smoke. And that was the 80s 10 straight losses? It was 798. It was a domicob, Messier. Error. I thought the 80s might happen. It was Messier's first season with the Connox. In fact, and we talked about this yesterday as well. It's glad you were paying attention. It was October and November. So we're right off the bat with Messier. And the Messier is history. One of the dark eras of Connox history. The Messier era. We're in another one right now if you're a Connox fan.

5:04And then we always talk about the mid late 80s before Pat Quinn got there when there were no wins in no hope. Yeah. Pat and Trevor Lyndon changed everything. And then came the winning. Yeah. Bold moves. Okay. You had some information. And I want to talk some more about at least Pederson because he's been playing one. We'll get to that in a second. Absolutely. But you wanted to talk about Philip Heronic. Yeah. Donnie, I would not be surprised if there's a lot of teams reaching out to Vancouver to see interest in Philip Heronic. He tried to fence and plays hard, quietly goes about his business done. There's a lot to like. But he's got a no wave. So he's got a great interview too. But he's got a like so many of these people say to me, why aren't the Connox making trades? Because the nine guys have no moves Don. Trade protection. They handed out like candy at a candy store. Like I said, a dark era. Yeah. Anyways, I also think that Heronic would be a prime target to be the new captain of Vancouver. I don't know what's going to. What are you talking about Don? He's a candidate.

6:04You don't think he's a candidate? I think he's a candidate. And I don't think he'd be a strong candidate. He's like, I was a wonderful player. No question about that. You just talked about the possibility of him getting traded. Yeah. Which is based on the case. Because teams are calling. Because teams are calling. Not because the Connox are saying hey, can you see him? And I'm sorry. Yes. I know. I know. I'm a member. I'm not an addressing him anymore. Like I used to be for a long, long time. Can you see him addressing the media on a regular basis? Oh, I can't. And being okay with that. And Quinn Hughes would turn people off in a second. Yeah, I know. I know. I'm just saying. And maybe for me, he's a candidate. The way he plays. Conducts himself. Of course. Good pro on and off the ice. I comes in a cap and shape. I don't have any issues with Heronic being a captain. I don't. Off the ice. That Don. He's in great shape. He comes in. Have you ever heard a story? Heronic showing up. He's a part of being a good soldier off the ice. Is I'm sorry in a Canadian market. And again, I'm a member of the media.

7:04So maybe I'm sensitive about this. Is you have to be able to deal with the media. And he doesn't. He hasn't done that so far. Sorry. That. No. And maybe it happens. But I don't think it could be good. I think it could be a good candidate. But anyways, teams. Why would you say that when you're a member of the media? Donnie, the whole reason not to name a guy to be captain. Can't be the media. It can't be. It can't be. It can't be. Then the other thing about the new captain event. Wow. Do you see 500 other candidates? Do you go down their list? Exactly. Which is why you're allowed. It's not a national holiday rule that you have to have a captain. Let's see what happens going forward here. They're entering a new, well, another era because things haven't worked out a little. The characters are the same. Let's see what happens going forward. Maybe Braden Coots is your captain. Down the road. Down the road. Yeah. Yeah. Down the road. He will be a good one. Youngest captain in Western Hockey League last week. Who's phoenix agent? Uh, Alan Walsh. Walsh.

8:04Yeah. He loves us. So it's, it could be. It could be a good one to combo. Well, it is interesting that, you know, we know Hironic's not a massive fan of the media. And yet Alan Walsh. Loves the media. Loves the media. He's part of the media. Oh, he's got that Twitter account that sometimes blows up. Yeah. Tweets on a regular basis. Famously the sword. Remember that? Yeah. Yeah. Vegas. Bubble. Flurry. Yeah. Vegas. Niels Hoguelander. Uh, Niels Hoguelander is a name out there right now. Teams are calling on him. Uh, no points in 13 games. Fourth line. If the connoxer willing to trade short-term deals, Dunny, that's a guy they could move. Three million a year. Doesn't seem to be getting any traction under Adam foot. Foot is the fourth coach that has had trouble with Hoguelander. Green Boudreau talking as well. This kid might need a change of scenery. He's had one good year here two years ago when he scored 24 goals since then not so great. And none of them are on the par play. Where are they?

9:04His name's out there. Niels Hoguelander. Come on. You gave him a bump from one to three million. You got him on the fourth line every game. Um, I, I, I don't know. Maybe that kid needs something. Are they going to make him captain? Maybe the, yeah. I, I think that kid might need a change. This is for getting angry here. I'm not getting angry, Don. Green healthy scratched him. Boudreau healthy scratched him. Talking healthy scratched him. Foot's healthy scratched him. Do you see the way this is leaning? Yeah. A lot of people don't like the way he's treated. And not just by the, the current group. Yeah. But going backwards like he's a great kid. You didn't notice him out there. Yeah. I will, I will say that. Keep for sure what latest. Uh, he is still with the team, by the way. I just want you to know that, Don. He has not, you know how demko got hurt and left. Uh, key for sure would didn't get up and leave. Uh, he's still with the team. So I want to get that in. Um, one team told me on sure wood. I think, uh, teams are going to rise.

10:05We're talking. Yeah, trade wise. I think teams are going to wait and see. If he's healthy at the break regarding trading for him. Yeah, I was wondering about trading for an injured guy. Don. So we'll wait and see. Um, may beliefs like him, but they don't have the assets. Don. I mean, they look at how many assets they've given up in the last few years. First round, second round. They've been going for it every year. So I don't think there's a ton of assets there. Um, you know, and all this Conrad Garland talk. Uh, teams love him. Yes, they do. But I'm told, uh, there's a, there's a captain. There's nothing even at there is what I've been told on the Garland front. But then again, they trade 500 guys this afternoon. And then, but we can only tell you what we're hearing as of now. Okay. So the connects 30 second overall. We're going to run the draft lottery simulator one of these days. We have to do that. Yeah. I think so. You know, they're a solid 32nd. So this has to happen. Uh, I got to say that I played it the other day. The draft. Later. Why are you playing that? Because I have nothing else going on. I play checkers. Did you just say you played it at home? Yeah.

11:05Why would you play with that? You really have a sad life, man. You're doing it. Okay, Mr. Excitement. Well, like that's your home. Your time at home. Brian, it didn't spend three hours doing it. I did it for like five minutes. Probably did it at about 15 times. Connects one once. This is, I can't remember if they were 31st or 32nd. That was pretty bad. People need to let this go. They're not winning the lottery. It's not in the court. It's not in the court. It's not in the court. It's not in the court. It's not in the court. It's not in the court. It's not in the court. It's not in the court. I agree. What did I just say? I played it 15 times. They won once. Yeah. You can't figure it out. You can't sit here in January and say they're not going to win it. How do you say that? Because they're in the history. Yes. Bad luck follows this franchise around. But they never did last. We're dead last. We. No, I mean, you're dead last. Just stop. The connoxers are dead last. You said we. No, I just stopped. They can't drop to eight or ninth or tenth. But the fear is what the islanders did last year. Exactly. That's the fear. It's going from 10 to one and getting a franchise defenseman who's wonderful.

12:07It wasn't. Hasn't it been every time they've been in the lottery? They've always stopped at first. They've never advanced. They've always dropped. They've never moved up. Yeah. Or stayed the same. Or stayed the same. So why does anybody believe they're not going to drop this time? Well, you. You'd hope they stay the same. What's the max they can drop three? Three, I believe. Three. Three. You can only go one, two, three. And three would actually not be bad because if there's a centerman of four or five, they won't look bad. Here's. Here's. Look, they won't look bad following the centerman since 1970. And there's a part of me. A lot of my set and I were talking about this. A large part of me that thinks this way. If they get the first overall draft picked, they're going to mess it up. I don't know. There were something sort of happen. Yeah. It would always be better for them to drop to three or four. Take the pressure off. Yeah. And you love. Hey, and you levy in vertan and we're not far from one and these. Okay. I don't work out. Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying. So the potential is there to screw it up. There's no question. Well, that's only for the first. We're very, we're very aware of that.

13:08So they get one. It's I every. You know, we're going to go for. McKenna. Right. Things don't work out. Well, it's only for the first round, too. That's right. Do they even have a second round pick? I don't know. They trade so many picks. They traded so many. What's the situation? What does not have a first round pick? Yeah. Wouldn't their second round pick if they finished 30 second? Be 30 second? Yeah. They would have. Oh, yeah. They say they think they win the lottery. They pick first. They have Minnesota's pick and then they pick 30 second. Yeah. So that's not up. And maybe get something for sure wouldn't. Yeah, they do have a they do have a second round pick. They don't have a third round pick and they don't have a seventh round pick. At this upcoming draft. Okay. Fun. How are we doing for time here? We got a break. All right. It is fun. Yeah. And you know what? I'm going to take, I'm going to be positive. And I don't, you know, like I, I'm just people already ripping into me for talking about Herona and how he isn't a candidate to be a captain. Come on. Stop it.

14:08I'm going to try to be positive as the show goes on. There's some positives of what's going on with the connects right now. We'll, we'll talk about that as the show goes on. DTMZ. Is it just me coming up in the 11 o'clock hour, John Shannon is going to join us just after 11 o'clock from the 100% hockey podcast, 100% connects as well. John's from BC. I'll have a few things to say. Well, what's going on with the Vancouver, Vancouver connects. Big ride. You know what I want to talk to John about. I think he, did he have John Cooper on recently? John Cooper. He didn't. Winner of 11th Street. Within the last five years as he had John. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You winner of 11th Street. John Cooper's never won an Adams award. Never won. John Shannon about that. He's gone, John Cooper has to be a strong, strong candidate. All he ever does is win that third overall Tampa Bay right now. It's amazing. Head coach, a team Canada. Big ride. Twitter guy coming up later this hour and up next. Boy, everybody around these parts so excited about what's happening in the NFL playoffs this weekend, including.

15:13It's the marquee game Saturday night, prime time. Down in Seattle. Seahawks against the 49ers. A rematch of that game a couple of weeks ago. Here to talk about that and all things Seattle sports from KJR Sports Radio, the Kraken Hockey Network. It's Ian Furness. Ian, thank you for doing this, sir. How are you? I'm good, gentlemen. How are you guys doing? Lovely. Very well. What's the buzz like in Seattle right now? It's pretty good. You know, we talked about it yesterday on the radio show.

17:16I had somebody ask me that's involved in sports. I'll just kind of say that in Seattle. And they said, is there same buzz right now that we've had? You know, we had back in, you know, the last times they were the one seed, which was 2013, 2014. And, you know, last time they had all in play out game was 2016. And I don't think there's that same buzz. But that's just me. And I'm not, you know, a kind of half. Yeah. And honestly, like before, I mean, we first started doing this. I was doing this with you guys because I was working at Fox 13. And we were, you know, I was with the Seahawks every weekend, home and away. And, you know, that was my world, right? That was everything I did. So it felt different this time, you know, kind of split. For me personally, just split in time between the hockey team and sports radio. It's a little different. But I think part of it is guys, you know, just in terms of the market, we had, we just gave so much emotion to what the Mariners did in the fall. Like that was just such a, like, and this is unexpected. You know, 2013, 2014, the Seahawks just rolled.

18:18It's a weird deer because I don't think you've ever felt comfortable as a Seahawks fan this year. And certainly there's no chance until the last three weeks of the season that you thought there was any chance this team would be playing home games and have a one seed. Because you're playing in the best division of football. Like the Rams in the 49ers never let you be complacent. Never let you feel like, hey, man, there's a, this is a really good team. You know, the times they've been the number one seed before, oh, five, with home grip, they rolled. I mean, they, they rested guys the last week and, week or two, you know, 13 and 14. They had to win their last game to get the one seed. But they were clear and away the best team in their division. They were always going to win the division and have home games. This time has been weird. It's like, hey, look what just happened. We got the one seed in Seattle. So it's a little bit different. I'll tell you this. All that said, Lumenfield is going to be crazy on Saturday. It's the first home game with playoff, home playoff game with fans since 2016. It's going to be crazy. Yeah, there was a whole playoff game in 2020. That was the COVID era though. No fans. There was a, it was, it was, it was me, Farhan, Aaron Levine and a couple other guys.

19:19And that was it. Party time. Party time. And we're all 55 feet apart. Yeah, it was a good time. A lot of fun that game. A lot of fun. Hey, it was this is the obvious question, but that's what we do around here. The, the week without a game. A rest positive for the Seahawks, because people talk about the loss of momentum and that sort of thing. Yeah, I think just for, for no other reason, they're by week came fairly early. It was 11, 12 weeks ago. So they get guys rested. You know, I think that's the big thing. They got guys rested along the way. And Charles Cross or left tackle has been banged up. He's been out the last couple of weeks. Josh Jones is back. He's been banged up. So they get guys rested. You know, maybe the chance Carlos or Royal, who's basically their second best pass catch and tied in behind. AJ Barnard has a chance. He comes back. He's been practicing. So I think honestly guys. If for no other reason, they just, they got an opportunity to get guys healthy or rested as much as possible. And I don't know if there's that momentum thing. I, if you asked the 49ers, would you rather play? Have a by week and, and have, or have momentum coming in.

20:21They'd say, well, look at George Kittle just got hurt. I think we'd rather have the by week. They're starting, they got injuries galore. I mean, and, and, and let's be honest, is there a little bit of youth, you know, that there are more than a touchdown underdog? Is there a little danger of the Seahawks taking these guys a little too lightly? Or are you not worried about that? I don't think you take anybody lightly in the postseason. I think if they're, if they're truth, truth being told as things played out over the weekend. You know, you could, you know, we all played this game. You guys do the same job I do. You know, you, who do you want to see in the playoffs, right? We have every, every show did that here in Seattle last week. And I'm sure that was internally being talked about or at least thought about in the locker room and the coach's offices when they're scouting tape. And there was a pecking order, like everyone Carolina was number one. Packers were number two. And, you know, as those two things didn't happen. Well, then you want to avoid the Rams. You say, I'll take my chances with the 49ers, you know, after, after the Saturday game. So 49ers, Philadelphia, I think everyone's like, yeah, let's, let's, we really want to see San Francisco.

21:24And then listen, nobody wants to see if I get hurt. But the second George Kittle went down, then you're like, OK, you're a huge 49er fan at that point. Like a massive 49er fan. Like go ahead and win this game because that team has already beat up enough without Fred Warner, without Bosa. And now you lose, you know, their second best offensive weapon in, in George Kittle. But a huge part of the running game too. He's not just a pass catcher. He helps McCaffrey out. So yeah, you wanted to see these guys. But, you know, complacency, I don't think so. I think you just, you know, no one's going to say, God, yeah, we wanted the 49ers, like no one will ever say that. But they wanted the 49ers. No doubt about it. Once, once Carolina and the Packers were off the table. And by the way, the 49ers, eight and two on the road, I ensure to turn a character in Philadelphia. But, yeah, I mean, anybody watching the Philly game, I didn't see them coming back. I didn't see them winning that game at all. But you got to give him. Brock, Brody. Brock, Brody's really resilient. I mean, he's good. I mean, it's, it's weird. This, this may sound strange. I don't think in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, you're going to see a bad football team.

22:26Yeah. I could be wrong. I could be wrong. But the bad football teams were the ones that were already playing at eight and nine or whatever. And sneaking in and the Packers, which were kind of a fraud. But yeah, I know I, I think it worked out well for Seattle. Well, you know what's working out well in Seattle, the hockey team, nine, one and two in their past 12 games. I mean, the third and the Pacific division, they're right there. Ryan, can you pulse, pulse some of the audio? Because I'm pretty, pretty sure like a couple months ago, my guy Ricky was just ripping on the crack. Stop. What are you talking about? Are you kidding me? I think he was killing these guys. Ryan, am I right there? Like, was you were? You were ripping him too. No, I ripped him a few years ago when I didn't work for him and they didn't like me. That was a different time. That was a much different time. We know about that. Donnie brings that up. Donnie brings that up off. And I know we know nobody's listening. I know, I know, you know, I know we can always forget about that. I like the paycheck now, but no, listen, this is the formula when they got to the post season three years ago. We've talked about it before. This is who they are.

23:27They don't have a superstar. They don't have the high end score. You know, I think at last check, Everly with the, with 16 goals is their leading goal score. So, you know, that's just, but they run four lines deep. You know, they, they, they run four lines and therefore, fourth line has been a massive, massive impact thing for them. It'll be interesting tonight. I, they haven't sent our lines out yet. We haven't seen it. What they're going to do. But I'm curious what they do tonight because Chandler Stevenson's back. And Schwartz came back every weekend. This is the healthiest. They've been up front all year. They have not had their top. If you want to call it top nine, top 12 forwards. They have not had their top 12 guys. Healthy yet this season. And I say 12. There's 13 and 14 that are going to sit. Ty Carchets at the other night. I'm not sure who sits tonight because I don't think they want to break up the fourth line. It's funny. They have a problem and their problem is their fourth line. I don't think they want to, I don't think they want to break that fourth line up. It's just made such an impact. But then who else do you bring out of the lineup?

24:28You know, like who do you bring out? Brennan Montour is still out. He's skating. He had a non-contact yesterday. I think he may play tomorrow, but we'll see. And when he comes in, that probably means Kale Flurry, who's played great, comes out. Josh Mahuric can't get in the lineup. Again, guys, this is not probably how anybody listen. If you read guys in the athletic and the what's the guy's name? Sarah Velley, that guy, you know, and all those dudes. They hate this team. They hate this team. You know why? Because it's not what they're supposed to be. You know, they're just a bunch of dudes out there. The other night was the first night in this little stretch they're in that they won a game and their goal tending was okay. The great. A lot of it's been. Yeah, like a lot of it has been Joey and group hours played great. The court has been really good. Groovy's been phenomenal. The other night they, you know, Groovy was okay. You know, wasn't bad. He's okay. And they still won. So it does it. It kind of flies in the face how you design a team. You know, the bigger question is it will get to. I'm sure in the next couple of weeks is what do they do at the deadline?

25:28Do they add? You know, they try to make an impact with a guy along the way. And we'll see him. And hey, Berkeley cat in turns 20 today. He's been pretty good lately too with with four goals in the last five games. Yeah. Big time. Yeah. Before let you go in that fourth line, you're talking about Wincherton, Goudreau, Malonson, is that right? No, it's it's Winerton. Myers, Malonson and Cartier. There's four guys for the fourth line. They. Well, no, what are the four slides? Good. It has four players on it in a shocking development. All four are out there at times together. It's pretty crazy. But no, it's it's those four guys mix it. You know, it's funny. I was watching a penguins game. We're there here on Monday and I'm doing that game on TV. And I was like, I started in my study and I'm like, they're rabid about their fourth line. And I kind of laughed because like they have a few more points. Seattle's fourth line is starting to get points. But boy, if you can roll four lines out there, if you can do that, your that helps you quite a bit. Takes a lot of pressure off guys. We'll see what you see what they do. Listen, you have an Ace want to roll out two lines.

26:28I know, I know how it's going up there. Yeah, I was just going to say, do you know how to roll out one line? Hey, just before we let you go and back to the football for a second. Ian, I've been to games down in Seattle, Lumenfield. And what, what, what are the CX going to do? The city's salad going to do. Whenever there's a 49ers game there, the lower bowl, it's all red and gold. So many 49ers fans. Yeah, that's the question. I don't think you'll see that as much as this one. Okay. You know, we, I don't know if we talked about it. When Pete got let go, that was part of it. You know, they had lost the Lumenfield magic. He had lost the Lumenfield magic. They had the issues with, you know, Pittsburgh on December 31st of 2023. Pete's last home game. Pittsburgh took over the stadium. The Steelers, the 49ers have as well. They're doing all these things right now. They're going to sell your tickets to anybody unless you know, there is Seahawk fan and Geofence this and all that stuff. I don't know. Guys buy tickets. You want to sell them. But my, my feeling is this will not be one of those games.

27:29There will be pockets. You know, there'll be pockets of, of steel of a 49er fans. That's just, there's transplants up here and people bought tickets. But I think you, it's not going to be like we've seen in the past. I mean, just look at the, the money night game. Like at the end, I don't know if you guys saw any of the post game. When they're talking to Will Anderson on the ESPN set. And they're in the post game. There's, there's like a chunk of, of Texans fans in Pittsburgh, all down at the bottom bowl. You really kind of think about it. It's like, there might be a thousand people there, you know, like maybe a thousand, fifteen hundred out of, you know, seventy thousand. So it's not that, that significant. But I don't think we'll see it like we have before. I think Lumenfield is going to be a decided home field advantage for Seattle and back kind of maybe back to the old days in terms of what it's like. Just get the Kraken's fourth line to, to attend that game. Apparently there's sixteen or seventeen of them and there you go. It's only four, four guys on the fourth line, Donnie. And, you know, I don't know. I'd, I'd talk to Adam foot. Maybe they should try the same thing. It might help, you know. I don't know if it, if it will. Don't let, don't let Sarah Valley and all the rest of the Kermudgeon NHL writers know

28:30because again, this is not how you're supposed to do it in the NHL. You're not supposed to, you're supposed to have superstars only. No, Surveilles too busy hanging out with Michael Bubley. Thanks for this, thanks for this, Ian. Exactly. I appreciate it. There's nothing better than Orion Henderson Cackle in the background. I'll see you guys next week. He's the only guy who got that. Thanks Ian. Appreciate it. Again, Seahawks, 49ers. Saturday's the five o'clock start. Five o'clock. I'm mistaken. Yeah. Saturday NFL, divisional round playoff game. Just a few hours down the road. We'll take a break and introduce the Konech related pole question. Donnie Donnie, the team on check. Oh. It's a lumber boy. Huh? I'm right. I'm trying to make amends because Rick was all the same. Mike Reno, who I love, is birthday last week. And Ryan just hip-scop jumped over it. So did I. I apologize to Mike. There's also a clip going around right now on social media.

29:33Uh, of a lumber boy concert. I don't remember what year. Hmm. But here in Vancouver and Mike Reno had more flying V yellow jersey. Oh. On stage. Yes. But he also had the headband match. Oh. Which is pretty crazy. Headband. Headband was great in the 80s. It worked. Did it work? It did work. Are you there in the 80s? For Olivia Newton, John, it worked. Ah, it worked for Mike Reno. It worked. Uh, lumber boy was great. Yeah. They were absolutely. There's a lot of good Mike Reno stories out there. Oh. Loving every minute of it. Yeah. This is from 1982. You got the picture? Yeah. Yeah. Any more. Oh. The headband match the orange of the V. What's wrong with the headband? The headband looks more red than orangey. You think so? Yeah. Still pretty cool. That's got to be 80, 283, 84. Okay. We did nail it down there. What are you talking about, Don? Look at this. It's got to be here. Yeah. That's when they wore those uniforms. I know. This says 82. I could be wrong. Bingo. I nailed it. You said 84.

30:33There's 280. Bruce Allen has this story about them playing. I believe in Anaheim. I'm not sure if there's an answer when they're at the height of their fame playing Anaheim. And Old Mike missed the flight. Oh no. Yeah. And they got a hold of each other and Bruce said, get your ass down here. I think I've got this story right? And you're paying for it. Wow. And he made the concert on time. Here's the guy that you're writing a book. Bruce Allen. Oh Bruce Allen. Oh Bruce. Oh. Oh, Bruce Allen. No, I mean. Well Bruce has got story. Oh yeah. So I met the Giants game a couple of years ago. Did you? Up in the suite, Donnie and I. You've met Mike Reno famously. Have you met Mike? I've met Mike, but I met Mike at Hope. Yeah. You don't realize how big lover boy was in the 80s. You know what? You're right. I don't. That song is good. The intro is really good. I met the old, well, I've got a few Mike real stories, but Georgia Street, there used to be this bar, heavy metal bar called the Metro. And it was live bands. And they're taking a pee in the bathroom.

31:36No, I am. Oh, you are. Yeah, that's the band. You're just a thing in the bathroom. That's a big, yes. That's my new pronoun. No, I was there in the bathroom. What I'm doing is in the washroom. And I'm there. And this guy starts singing. And I'm like, oh, my God, that guy's got an unbelievable. Whatever song was playing, maybe Bond Jovi or something from the 80s. What a voice. I look over. It's Mike Reno. Oh, so he was just singing the bathroom? Yes. He won't remember this because I didn't say anything. Why would you say anything? Why would you say something to Mike Reno? You're in the bathroom. But it was cool to get rid of this Mike Reno. Huge rockstar. And he's at this, you know, I want to hug them and give them an edge bar in Vancouver. How do you know what I'm saying? I want to hug them. I'm like, I didn't know my hands were full of your hands. Do you want to say hi to someone in that setting? Why not? I don't think so. I don't think it's a big deal. It's weird. Mike Reno, you're doing the back. Hands might be a little bit bigger.

32:37Yeah, give me some what that's kind of the natural thing though. But you got to say, hey, Mike, love lover boy. Hey, how's it going? You got to say that. Good. He said that. You say, hey, yeah, pretty good right now. I feel a lot better. You know, the connox are going to make the playoffs. So we might need another Mike Reno story for another day. And you know my stories. I feel they're up in. They are good. I don't think the connox are going to make the playoffs. They're probably not. So we might need some of those off the cuff guess to the back half of this season. Maybe Mike Reno is one of them. I'm getting up up there. Have we done the poll question yet? No, we haven't done anything. Reno was in liquor store in White Rock. That's right. A few weeks ago. That's it. Ocean Park Nancy. Solomon, she took a picture of him. It was really nice. Poll question. Waddling dog poll question. Experience one of Victoria's iconic destination. Sleep, sip, stock up. All in one legendary spot. The Metro, aren't you? I'm sitting stay at the Waddling dog today. Right. Get her up. The Waddling dog poll question. EP 40 also. Elise Patterson. Four goals.

33:37Six games. If you waved his no move clause. Do you believe the connox would be able to trade him? Yes. 85% say. 15% say no. 716 votes are ready. Pick that energy. God, what do you want me to do? You act like I could take some medicine to get picked up. Whatever it takes. Well, there's stuff. Yeah. Cheese and Chong helps. But listen. Well. I lost my print of the 80s. There are teams calling on Patterson. But let me get this out of the way. He's got a no move. I have no evidence that he's going to wave his no move if presented by the connox. And again, his age in J.P. Barry gets mad at me. All they get mad at me if I ask about Myers. He gets mad at me if I ask about Patterson. I don't think that they like the fact is that he's going to wave his no move. If presented by the connox. And again, his age in J.P. Barry gets mad at me. I don't think that they like the fact his name's out there again. But it is what it is. What bet that that's oh, it's gosh. Donnie. What's the big deal? Donnie, you just signed a for eight years.

34:38That's the big deal. People don't sign for seven and eight years. They want to be traded a year and a half later. They did it with Miller. They gave him seven. They traded them a year and a half later. Now they're doing it with Patterson. He'll be okay. Now they're doing it with Patterson. He'll be okay. Oh, let's sign a for eight years. We love him. They're living a dream life. Do you think they, when they got together, they signed for eight years? Let's ship them out and two and a half. Come on, John. You don't think that they're aware that that comes with the job. Trade rumors, especially if you're underperforming. And you know what? It's not a bad, I talked about this earlier. It's not a bad time for the connox right now. A lot of people, including people that have been around for a long, long time with this team. Following this team, being a fan of this team. They're okay with them doing the rebuild news is good. The fact they're saying the word rebuild is good for those people like me who want to hear it. Because it's a different approach. There hasn't been a Stanley Cup in Vancouver since Cyclone Taylor in 1915.

35:40I'm sorry. Let's have a different approach here. I'm all for this. They're 30 second. That helps their chances of winning the lottery and getting a player that could very well single-handedly turn the franchise around. That's great. The other thing, at least Patterson is playing better right now. I ripped into him earlier this week. Let me take that back. He's playing better right now. Four points in his last six games. You notice him out there. Rick talked and loved this. I think he's moving his feet way better these days. Shooting more. And I still would like to see him shoot even more than that. So that's great for the team right now in terms of on-ice performance. But maybe even better what we're talking about right now. Uping his trade value. Okay. Increasing the chances of seeing him get traded. Plus the fact that if it happens near the end of the season or in the summer, the team that gets them has them for six years versus eight. Like the connox. I don't know. I think it's not everything is bad with this team right now. Okay.

36:40Here's the problem with trading, Patterson. You are the weakest team in the national hockey league center. You're going to trade your first line center. Okay. What are you getting back? First line center back. Probably not. Because you got to take picks and prospects. Take them back. Because the other team is. How they doing right now. Donnie. Donnie. The other team has taken on 11.6. You ripped that contract every single day on this show. But you want another team to pick up that contract. Playing better though. You want another team to pick up that. So there is a dearth of frontline. First line, second line centers available in the national hockey league right now. It is a valuable, valuable commodity to have. You can get something for him if he continues to play like he has the last week or two. Somebody said, oh, the connection need a centerman back for Patterson. Yeah, the sky is blue. You know, what are you going to trade Patterson for a winger? Like how obvious, Captain, obvious is that. I don't know, Rick. You're talking. How do you even see? Your focus right now has to be the future. Yeah. Droughty. Donnie. Donnie. Whatever position they play.

37:40And if you need a center, you make a trade with those talented players. Now, Captain, this is your second line center. Donnie. You're worried about right now. Yeah, that's the problem. The first team with an NHL at center. The reason they're in 30 seconds is because of the center ice position. Well, there's a lot more to it. Common sense tells you. If you trade Patterson, you got to get a centerman back. But is he a first line center? Yeah. You got to trade Patterson for a winger. And you have no first line center dot. Ah, come on. It's got to be a centerman coming back. If you don't have a centerman back, you want to finish. You want to finish 31st. Absolutely. Absolutely. But you take a lesser... What if the... What if the winger is a better player than the center? Yeah. Who's your first... You're not there. My questioner. So who cares? Who are first line centers growing trees? Rick. You're your first line centers growing trees? What should the focus be? Now or the future? Oh. So you guys are okay with David Camp. Yes. Really? Wow. Rick. Okay. So they have a first line center right now, right? How's that going?

38:40You can't get worse. That's right. You can't trade Patterson and not get a centerman back. That's... That's got to be the stupidest thing ever. If you can... If you can get... If this... If the team getting trading for him says to you, will give you this young winger. Or this young center that's a lesser player. I'm okay if you want to take... Because you know what this... This concept of franchise... You understand how important it is to be strong in the middle of the ice? Right. Rick. It's because they were strong up in the middle of the ice. Let that go. Let that go. They have said they've used the word rebuild. The focus. Again, I'm using that word. Has to be the future. Right? And if you could get... Like Ryan says, a talented winger for Elias Patterson is going to help you in the future. Yeah. You got to get a center back. But that's common sense. No, it's not. Rick. It doesn't happen. If you get a... You can't trade your top lines. You're worried about now. It's so wrong. Look at Quinn Hughes. What do they get back? A guy they feel is a dominant defense.

39:40Who's very young. Yes. Same thing has to apply to Patterson. If you do move him, he says yes. And a perfect girl. You got to get a center back. As long as he's young, sure. Okay, he might not be a front line center now or a first line center now, but maybe he will be one day. That's it. Yeah. Because the other thing isn't enough to be. You could overload on a position. Then use that position. They're heavy on wingers. Right? But you could then flex on that for a center potentially. This franchise has never done that. They never had an asset. They spent nine months trying to get a center. They had to use Quinn Hughes to get Rossi. Why don't you understand? So, okay, right. The centers are hot again. They got Rossi. They don't grow up. They don't grow on trees. They got Rossi. They got Patterson. They have Patterson. I'll ask you again. How's it going? 30 seconds. They're in 30 seconds. That's right. And that's okay. Because the rest of the team, they're not strong at center. And look what happened when they were strong at center. Games haven't happened to them. Again, you're worried about that. You're in this fantasy world thinking that, you know,

40:41if they get a decent center and okay, that somehow they're not going to be, maybe they get to be, like I said, 31st or 30th. And that is, that thinking is wrong. All I'm saying is on the future. If you trade Patterson not to get a center back, would be absolutely the most craziest thing on earth. You have to get a center back for Patterson or you are in real big trouble, organizationally. You're in. Okay. You're going to run. You're in for Patterson right now. You trade Patterson for a winger, Ryan. Go ahead and do it and see how it ends up. Honestly, if he agrees to wave his no move, it should be like Kramer and the coffee thing. If he agrees, and a team says to you, we'll take the least Patterson. Kramer and the wife. You say, I take it for life. You say, I take it to whatever the team is. I don't care at this point where you can get from. If you can get out of six years remaining, if you can get out of that without retaining, whatever you want to give us back, cool with me. It's so sour here with this guy. Move on. That would only say, don't move on. I'm saying, if you don't get a center back,

41:41you're screwed. But I'm saying to cut the center right position for years. You got to get something back up the middle. You know what, that's so wrong because you're focusing on the present and you're afraid of what might happen in the future. I'm excited. I'm excited. Donnie, they have no centerman in Abysford. Do you know that they have not taken a centerman in the first round since 2017 when they took Patterson? Do you know why they have no centerman in Abysford? Because they haven't taken one in nine years. Braden Coots. Okay, other than Coots. They haven't taken one centerman in eight years. In rounds one or two years. It's the last year. Yeah. Okay, but they take away Coots. Take away Coots. Okay, all right. We'll save the business for a little bit later. We've got to get rolling here. Next, Donnie and Donnie. The team points right, tough being read all the time. Donnie and Donnie, the team, I'll check. Looking for the ultimate Vancouver Island getaway? Head to beautiful Parksville. That happened a long time ago, actually. Four points and six games is good. How low have we gone? Thank you. Time for what, Peterson? Absolutely. Well, you love what's going on right now. The bar is low. So he scores four and six, and it's time for a parade. It's a very good point. People are getting excited about four points,

43:44four goals and six games for Alias Patterson. The bar is low. They're 30 seconds. Big ride. Should I take it to which? Should I take offense to this? Davis and Langley. I would take Ryan at center for five seasons, if that's what it took for a full rebuild. No. I could be a shutdown center. Yeah. I can't skate. But other than that, I'm right there. What happened? You didn't take skating lessons? No. I mean, we took a couple field trips as a kid to the rink. Yeah. But nobody in my family played hockey. Like, my brother didn't play. My cousins didn't play. I got a couple buddies that played. But like, and yet here you are. Yeah. An expert on the game. I'm not saying I'm an expert. No, I'm not going to sit here and say like you, you know, about a skating style. And, you know, but I'm not going to. I'm not an expert, but anyway. I tell you what, I thought I knew a lot about hockey. Then I started coaching minor hockey and I realized, holy cow, I got a lot to learn here. Yeah. I would say that too. I mean, you once compared Mason Rayman to Wayne Gretzky. I don't do those sorts of things.

44:44You know what? No, you're bringing up a sore point for me from the past. It really is. And this is all to do with David Pratt, who reminded me about that. Every day we did the show. You're the guy who compared Mason Rayman to Wayne Gretzky. I compared their skating styles. Yeah. Not their stats. Mason Rayman is a player to Wayne Gretzky. You've had a lot of takes over the years. That, Heedle and Buray. There's a lot of things. And most of them have been bad. Yeah. Okay. Just stand by what we did last segment though. Speaking of bad, you know what's bad is the attendance and Abbotsford. I don't know if you guys saw this article. courtesy of good pal Ben Lipka. Abbotsford news. He did a deep dive. Abbotsford conducts at the halfway mark. Okay. In the A.H.L. season. They're averaging 3,783 fans per game. That is 25th of 32 teams in the A.H.L. when it comes to attendance. Okay. There's sixth out of 10 in the Pacific Division.

45:46So their own division. There's sixth out of 10 teams. It's, this is a 4.6% drop from the first 18 home games. A 4.6% drop compared to the first 18 home games at last season, which had around 3,900 fans. So they're down around two to 300 fans per game on average. They've had really low crowds though. I think the lowest crowd 2200 or something they've had this season. And Ben does point out they've had a lot of Tuesday and Wednesday games. Okay. That hurts them. Big time. That hurts any team. Big time. When you have outside of a pro team. When you have these weekday games. And I mean, let's be honest. I still can't get over though. The amount of turnover that team has had since they won it. I mean. There's a rick go on about this. It's an American homiculate farm team. I get that. And the parent team is struggling. Also, that team had success. Obviously, guys are going to move up. There's been injuries. It's not surprising. This much turnover. Really?

46:46It depends on things go for the NHL. Yeah. They're not equipped to have six guys up in Vancouver. Six more injured. It's not right. And Ryan, you're surprised by this somehow. The Abbess bird is 30th out of 32 American homiculate teams. I'm only surprised, Rick, because of them coming off of the title. I mean, a rephrase again. I know, I know. 30th. I have 32 teams. There's the Winnipeg Jets. I understand that. It also brings up a point, though, that I've talked about for a while. And that is, I wonder. I wonder about too much hockey in the valley. Like I, and there's, you know, that, that what's happening with the Chilobai team in the WHO? Where's that at? You know, that's apparently still on the horizon. You know, like, I just, you got the giants out there. You got Abbess bird out there. You got the BCHL out there. Not to mention everything else. Everyone can do this. If you win sports, whatever they will come. And the playoff slot. Well, no, that's true. If you win, they will come. Look at the playoffs last year. That was very, very, very palminical of you. Yeah.

47:46I thought it was if they, if you build it, they will come. They will build the same thing. If you win or build it, and it wins, they're going to come. If you build it and you win, they will come. Just stop. They sold that rink out in the playoffs. Yeah, they did for the owner of kind of money. So God bless them. Not enough money to buy rings. But now they. Or practice facility. They've had injuries galore. And this got hit last weekend. They've had too many guys up in Vancouver. And they're doing well. And it's not the same team. They let guys go. That's how he plays. Yeah. Digi Cepi. Akino Hirose. Tristan Nielsen. The 14 John Kid who's played games with the Colorado Avalanche. Yeah. Dr. Sammy Blaze the other night. He said that. Did he? That was the first thing I'm paying attention. Blaze. I'm like him. Hey. Hey. And Tristan Nielsen. Not good enough. Tristan Nielsen. Not good enough for Abbas. But good enough to play on the best team in the national hockey league. You're Colorado Avalanche. C-Loss. Huh? C-Loss. There's a goal. Right. The little people has been fine.

48:46Yeah. Well, he was fine. Yeah. Anyway, it's just a little interesting. And they got killed on defense injuries. A jet woo was out a few months. Breeze was. Been out a few months. Hey, don't blame those guys. You don't know more about Amosford than you do. Nah. Keep an eye on him. Okay. Just stop. They're doing a good job. Siddine Twins. They're doing a good job. You just said they're dying in the standings. Donnie. All things considered injuries. It's about to valent too many guys. They got asking. You know when you're sitting up in Vancouver in the press box eating popcorn? You could be down there. Yeah, I don't really get that. You could be down there. Well, I will say this, though. Like it is a positive for the C gearbox. I know you're talking about the attendance and where they are in the standings. But then, when in the call to Cup last year, the combination of that. of that plus what you know Linus Carlson and Maxis on do not look at a place That's it. Oh, no whatever development was going on there and Linus Carlson is not as young as you think pretty good Yeah, that's that that's a feather in the camp of the Vancouver connects and they got well done feather Willander is up here men's he needs up here when those guys come up It hurts them big time dpd's big skies away that are giving you night. Well, what are you supposed to do not bring them up?

49:50I'm not saying that but there's too many here takes today Stop it don't stop it. What about Sammy Blake? You're right though about RC beans I don't really get this up your eating popcorn on this road trade And if you just get it down an abyss bird helping them out if you need an extra body Get somebody else, but like I don't I don't really understand that one I thought when he was gonna come up maybe they'd rotate him through we'd see more scratches on the forward side of things Now I know there was injuries that played into that Rossi Garland just got back all that but I'm a little surprised He's just been sitting there as Rick says eating popcorn on popcorn row and a reminder if you win What did you say if you if they win they will come yeah if they win people will come What's wrong with that it was a title of a pure North film if they come people well stop it It's common sense. I'm just telling you if they win and turn it around that they will fill the building if you have it Okay Stop man. I'll stop right now I have to say this you talk about weekday games that atmosphere in Montreal

50:52Monday night it felt like a Saturday night hockey night in Canada in the playoffs Yes, it was ridiculous like it was just it came right through the television very similar to Roger's arena It says though they like hockey in Montreal. It's as though they're supporting a rebuild in Montreal Up next John Chan in front of rebuild anymore a hundred percent built they built it and now they're coming John Chan there's got to be a better way to say that John Chan is next Don and Don and the team on chat Hey, everyone. It's Donnie and Donnie and we're looking to partner with your company We have several packages and price points to fit your budget and spread the word about your company on the show in our podcast and On social media. We'd love to get involved with your company called 250 880 2282 or email advertise at check media.ca When's Dan all of our guests today brought to you by our friends at the Bayside Ocean front resort in beautiful parksville

51:56We're joined now by John Chan from the 100% hockey podcast 100% Connects connects coming off the loss in Ottawa in Columbus to finish off the so far not so successful Road trip against Rick bonus and the Columbus blue jackets John Chan and choices John. Thanks for doing this sir. How are you? I'm great boys great. Wait. I'm just trying to find something to build or win and people show up Yeah, exactly while they do for this if you if you win they will Then there you go. There you go. I'm gonna use that my next movie script Hey, John you know Jim Rutherford. How tough do you think it is for him to use that at this stage of his career to use that word rebuild? I think it's hard for any manager Particularly when you look at the scope with the last 24 months Yeah, you know when you look at taking the Evans and Eilers to a seventh game and

52:58How the team was developing and then the peterson Miller saga the Rick Talk at event Yeah, I'm sure it's been a tough 24 months. It really has and and then to on top of that now look at a hockey club that is nowhere near where they thought it was going to be and They've had to get rid of Quinn Hughes in order to try to start to fix the issue. I think it's been really difficult John Don just mentioned Rick bonus He's on his boat with his wife a couple of days ago in Florida. Just enjoying probably on a yacht or whatever He gets a call from Don Woodell and he says in less than two minutes what else said. I'm in What did you think of that? Well, we had Rick on our podcast last Wednesday And he he sat and told Darren and me That he loved retirement He and Judy were planning trips. He had three or four occasions to be on the set for TNT

54:02In fact, one of the most supposed to be tonight And so it didn't even occur to us to ask him the question are you retired? Are you done he seemed to be so happy? But he's a lifer like a lot of us. He's a lifer. He loves the game He loves and and to listen to his words after the game last night I don't know whether you played them on the show or not yet But it was a very brief 22nd clip where he said I love working with young players and I love being behind the bench And and that's face this is only for half a season right now And it's almost like Rick's auditioning the blue jackets and the blue jackets are auditioning Rick Yeah, because it's not for a long-term deal It's it's I hate said it's almost not for money It's because he loves Being in the battle on a day-to-day basis Another coach Tampa Bayes won 11 straight hottest team in the league

55:04Donnie had this I I didn't know this John Cooper's never won the coach of the year award. How is that right humanly possible? Well, I think a lot of voters and the voters of the broadcasters association which by the way, I'm not a member of So I I didn't vote I voted on the other ones. They didn't vote on that one The the challenge is is that people look at his roster and say well, you got Braden point You got Nikita Kutcher off you got Andre Vasilesky you have Victor headman and now you got Ryan McDonough back. Yeah You got a good team. You know, you don't need to be a good coach And usually what happens is is in these situations we We in the in the in the award giving department We reward improvement We don't reward And so that's that's really the the big issue for John Uh, does he deserve an Adams? Absolutely. He probably more than one But then you know what you guys you know the curse of the Adams trophy. Yeah, don't win it

56:09Rick talk it. Yeah, don't don't win it Any the that situation with the coach of the year award being for the most improved team goes across all leagues Not just the the national hockey league Ross Tucker was on our show. He's talking about it Yesterday, hey don't we haven't talked about this this week yet But the red wings raised 90 number 91 to the rafters on monday. What are your memories of the great surge federoff Well, there's a there's a couple there's one that they're I was gonna say personal, but it's not personal It's got to do with hockey night in Canada and the satellite hot stove uh surge federoff became You know a a regular Contributor in many ways to the hot stove because every Saturday, Alstrak and would tell us how many times he was dating anacornacova Yeah, wow, yeah, and that being that be that was that wasn't the satellite hot stove that day that was page six But the other part of it was that you know when you when you looked at

57:12Burrey Mogilny and federoff those young guys that played at the world junior in Alaska And then made huge impacts how they came to North America was one story And then the contributions they made was there any more versatile player in the history of the game then surge federoff Did he make the game look easier Then what surge federoff did. I mean he could score. He could pass. He could skate Um, and then you know scottie put him back on the blue on a couple of times because he needed a defenseman And he knew that federoff could manage it It was it was finally exciting to see the 91 go to the rafters when you consider how The relationship between the Red Wings and federoff ended you know on two terms one on the on the offersheet by the hurricanes And then when he left in free agency. So it really was Heartwarming to see and and harm warming to see that federoff actually admitted that he should have never left Detroit

58:13Yeah, it was a great player and a great part of those three Stanley cups Yeah, I left Detroit for the Anaheim mighty ducks uh back in the day in 2003 John January 27th of leaves are going to honor Darrell Sittler's 10-point night Versus Boston That was February 7th 1976. I remember it as well. I was playing a minor hockey game in our coach Announce it to us. What do you remember about that day? 50 years ago Well, it was my first year at hockey net in Canada. I was one of those guys around maple leaf gardens running around trying to help people and get coffee and it was It was epic. It was electric to be in the building The the fascination for me was it you know in those days scoreboards did not indicate but he's got four points. He's got five points. He's got six points You had to follow along a lot closer and and only when he got to

59:14Seven or eight points did people start to think in the arena at maple leaf gardens? Did people start to think? Oh my goodness gracious This is this is we're watching something special the other part of it you always remember was The goalie of record was Dave Reese um And Jerry chievers had just come back from the WHA and grapes was the coach And chievers put a towel over his head And then every once in a while when when grapes that looked down the bench Adam And he would chievers would turn and say don't you look at me? Wasn't that Dave Reese? No way chievers is going in. Was that Dave Reese's last game in the NHL? Might have been yeah, it might have been should have been Or only getting I think he played more than that, but I think that was his final game In in the national hockey league. Hey Doug Armstrong is going to be on our show tomorrow. Why is he the right? Why is the right choice? Why is he the right choice for team Canada John?

1:00:17I think Doug Who was you know tutored by Bobby Clark and tutored by Bob Ganey um Has the right demeanor to build a consensus and still make hard decisions Um, you know, he comes from a hockey family his dad was one of the great linemen in the history of the game Neil Armstrong But but Doug Learned the hard way worked his way up from an internship in them with the Minnesota nurse stars um, and and then what has has been able to evaluate talent But he also is not afraid to listen to people But when somebody needs to make a decision and this work Clark and Ganey really uh, I think gave him the tutelage when he needs to make a decision He will make the decision and he will stand up and say this is the decision I've made Even though in truth, it's been probably 10 or 12 people that have been part of the decision making process I never got used to Bobby Clark being in charge of the the the Minnesota nor stars That just did not seem right and sure nothing went back to Philly

1:01:21Well, he was I was there in that time. I that's where I first met Doug was I was working for the north star In the Twin Cities and it was Clark and Ganey and uh, and and uh and army and uh our pal Dave Hodg was the play-by-play man So we had a good now we had uh, we had some fun in and around the north star those years Great uniforms and not a bad team got him to a Stanley Cup final. Hey, John. Thanks for this. We'll talk to you next week Cheers boys. You bet Uh, John Shannon 100% hockey podcast 100% connects that Fedorov ceremony was excellent on Monday Indy Trady also talked about why he wore the number uh, 91 McGillney wore 89 his teammate with the Russia national team that was the year that he defected Fedorov Defected and or came over to North America in 1990 so you'd think he'd wear 90 he didn't want to zero on his uniform So he went one better and decided to row one up and decided to go with uh number 91 Okay, uh, a break will update the poll question do some business next Donnie Dulley the team one check

We'll tell you the club record is 10 said back in 97 98 when there were ties so a couple of the connox games in this losing streak Have gone to over time and one went to over time one went to shoot. They would have been a tie Those games would have been a tie back in the day, but eight straight losses as it stands today Eight straight losses club record is 10 you wanted to talk about that your dimple I checked in this morning. 1:05:32Just talk to bottom. Just check them out. Do it. I'm sure they checked him out. Just just shelf him no matter what it says Because this big cut. They're not big contract just three years after this season They got to get somehow do whatever it takes to get him healthy Forget about this season's lost. They need this unless they get a front line center for Peterson Start all over with them. Go just take your time. No rush Yeah, exactly. We'll agree on that. Oh, hey, uh, another okay You do you want a foreburt foreburt? I've been told that we want to tell you. Yeah, foreburt I've been told that Derek foreburt. He's only played two games this year dot I've been told he's been skating a roger's arena every day this week with skills guy That's a good people said he might be done for the year done But he's skating so it looks like there's a chance and filipedals on the road with the team and with blue It's very interesting that they went on the road with the team. It's been Night eight nine days. They haven't played yet They haven't played yet, but skating skating and sure would still with the team on the road

1:15:55Surging them Chinoff. Yeah, absolutely I'll never forget the day. I went to interview him at the airport Mike Reno is a big day It was a big day Okay, this American actor started his career at age 10 in a serial commercial for Golden Grims Are they not the best? Yummy as cereal. Oh, you see this cereal or like a golden grams Donnie you know golden grams. Okay, let's try to figure out who this is Alpin's great too. I'm out of Alpin. I gotta go today He landed a significant role on little house in the prairie number that show what a great show little house in the prairie boy Was that good never watch an episode you can see neither did you There's no way the guy ended up on NFL Monday night football

1:16:57Help me out. Dennis Miller. No Donnie Orville there's something I'll get that name. There was a guy in the house in the prairie little house in the prairie Okay, Merlin Olsen Merlin Olsen. Yeah, he was a went to Utah State with Tom Larshight He was on little house in the prairie and then ended up on the air some for us Due to a heavy workload while filming teen wolf 2 Uh, he never completed his final exams and did not get his high school diploma He's married to Paul Enka's daughter. They met at a hockey game in 1987. He was in horrible bosses Are you guys serious? Have it's busy? Is he? No, Bateman, Bateman Jason Bateman and I saw him in Ozarks and Netflix. Oh horrible boss is a good show horrible bosses funny too Yeah, it's Justin Bateman Colin Farrell. No, it's not Jason. Not Justin Bateman. Who's Justin? Jason You're thinking of Justin Bateman his sister. Oh, he's sister. Yeah, yeah, but he was on little house and family ties with the model

1:17:58You know watch a little house in the prairie. What a great show. The Waldo's in little house in the prairie didn't do a for it What was Melissa Gilbert? She was great. Was she in? Yeah, she was in Not not in the Waldo's the Waldo's were great too. Oh the same. Oh, yeah, this frontier type shows Waldo's Waldo's was great. Okay, let's go anyways This rapper and actors real name is James Todd Smith 50 cent no first artist assigned to deaf jam records two-time Grammy winner his landmark debut album radio in 1985 Is he an actor now? No, just let me finish. Yeah, second album was bigger and deffer 1987 inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2021 He was in the movie any given Sunday. Oh Alcujee. Alcujee. Alcujee. Alcujee. He performed at halftime BC lines Okay, this this is last one This American actor appeared nude in an early 1975 episode of the sitcom good times remember good times. What a great show

1:18:58I don't remember the nude episode. No, it's true. Good times JJ Walker. You remember JJ I don't remember nobody. It was nude. Yeah, how is it nude? I you saw it a little house in the prairie everyone so I'm telling you I Google this and this is what popped up. Good times that JJ Walker popped up. Remember Michael Michael Jackson sister was in that He appeared as a loan shark He appeared as a loan shark in Starsky and Hutch. Well another great show Starsky and Hutch was so good. He was also in Kung Fu in an episode in 1975 another great show He was Chubs Peterson in happy Gilmore Karl Weathers Karl Weathers think that this step that come on. He played for the BC line If I say that if I say BC lines you're going to get it right away my job is to make you think a hollow creed Your cruise clue was that he appeared nude. He appeared nude and good times. What do you mean by? These are my favorite shows. Yeah, what do you mean by continuity? Just Maybe a back shot. I don't know like about good time. It might have been a back shot

1:20:00Just Google it. It's true. I'm okay. These are all I'm saying that good times the Starsky and Hutch. He left us recently I know we did and and for those people out there We do birthdays of people that sadly who have left us Karl Weathers BC lines three years Oakland Raiders played for Joe. I met him at Brentwood Mall. Are you serious? Yeah, wow autograph signing Karl Weathers just he was so nice Very little Donnie. Yeah, yeah, little Donnie at Brentwood with Karl Weathers the amazing Brentwood. Yeah Thanks for that. Okay, we're good. Yeah, yeah Dave Grohl 50 says is it just means coming up 57 years old he's got to help play us out October 99 and the album. There is nothing left to lose This is Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters Uh and learn to fly on check playing the best of Seattle on a BC Wednesday morning. Is it just me? He's next Oh Little factoid about good times maybe we'll get that in Ricky. Is it just me?

1:21:04Well Dan says Karl Weathers did not appear nude in good times The episode he was in was titled the nude. Oh, so I was close. I was in there. It's it was I was around the neighborhood Pardon me. I was in the neighborhood So he was in a new episode. He was in an episode called nude the nude. Oh the nude. Okay, so somebody was gonna pose nude or something I was close. I was in the neighborhood You want me to go here? Yeah, yes Is it just me? I like this clay and an eye mold Since 1979 70 the connox have had 22 head coaches zero cups Steelers we had coaches six Superbowen stability at the top matters a clay and an eye mold Absolutely bang on bang on This is from was is it just me and our thanks to clay is it just me but the connox weren't winning the cup Aren't winning the cup anytime soon in my eyes This is the perfect season ownership finally forced to do what everyone has told them to do for 10 plus years

1:22:05Was well you want them to go out and get a front line center I said that you don't want to rebuild you got to have a center and come back. I mean come on Uh, if they're trying to trade whole glider right now. That's a bad process indicator stop trading guys at their lowest trade value Aden from abus spread eight so good. They're in 32nd place nobody Nobody is doing great the guy only do the only guy doing great is sure what and he's injured Pederson's playing improve talking improve white rock Troy. Is it just me? Hypothetically speaking palmo burray is in the draft and he's ranked number one You need a center on your team and there's no one in the drag draft ranked number five According to rick you take the fifth ranked player. That's from white rock. Troy So you're saying you need a center? Pavel burray is available so you go ahead don't worry about we don't win or need a pavel because he's not a center If pavel burray was available in this draft and the connoxer picking first you take pavel But they are so fricking weak at the center ice position organizationally They've taken two centers in the last nine years in the first round and that's it

1:23:06Unsigned we've had two or three of these today unsigned is it just me But I'd like to hear more about the connox picking Keaton Verhoff. I think he will compare to pronger I can't say I noticed them a lot at the world of juniors But a lot of people talk about him and where is he is at North Dakota? He's in North Dakota After playing a couple of years with the Victoria Royals and a lot a lot of people are very high on him very Wanted a defenseman. Yeah, you're right number one spot or whatever wherever they pick He's the number one defenseman available in this year's draft. There's a kid in Ontario cam read. He's he's climbing the ranking Button is very high on American defense connoxer connox by the way love Verhoff and read so there are good defenseman available Is it just me but if the connox were playing an exciting and winning brando hockey I wouldn't give a damn if the next connox captain never spoke to the media And I would suggest more conno- most connox fans would agree with that cj and an animal That's a great counterpoint to my argument. I you know being a member of the media. I think it's a

1:24:09A captain's obligation to speak to the media with respect after each and every game Went win win or lose. I'm not sure that would be the case with Phil Paronik But that's a great point Bottom line it does come down to how you play on the ice perfect world you deal with the media well as well Is it just me Florida Panthers? Ryan we got a picture of this? Is it just me? This is from black creek b-radical Is that one I shouldn't have read? Florida Panthers rolled out a new hyperbaric chamber not hyperbaric chamber, but hyperbaric chambers A few weeks ago look at this thing. It looks like you take it to the moon They're still around the hyperbaric chamber. And so this is it in their new practice facility right? Yeah So what happens when you're sitting here? Well, I it's all over recovery. Yeah, quick recovery But Trevor Lindon's club 16 given Trevor a plug. He's got this stuff in there He's got that he does not have this. No, he's got some machines. You can sit and I feel better Yeah, they're called saunas. No, no, don't either so red. They're called the red something red

1:25:15No, you go sit in there and you feel better. You can sign up for it. I don't do it the charge Trevor for that promo This is I mean, this is like it's spaceship. Yeah, but you're not telling me what when you get out of this It's faster recovery. Yeah, it's about the oxygen. He like it's about. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's about oxygen More oxygen less oxygen. I'm not exactly sure. Maybe I should have done more research one But this is kind of like screen so they can be watching film or the where's the old hyperbaric chambers were like a small tube It was kind of scary like What do you got? Right the connects cannot be afraid to make bold moves if someone offers a pick in a prospect for PD without retaining We should jump all over it Eric the groundskeeper. There you go You know what you've you've got people back in you up as well. Ron Coquitlam is it one of them You just read this is it just me or Scoots a cookin as a center Rick is gargling with crown instead of scope I think no Ron and Coquitlam braincoots of course going over to Prince Auburn I have to say that I haven't been keeping track is he

1:26:17I know he scored his first hole at the top of the other day Coots is doing really good. He's on the third best team in the country And I'm telling you right now Don that Prince Auburn with him The it's a loaded hockey club. It's a really good move Seattle did to get that kid on a winner Is it just me unsigned? Is it true that EP 40 as we're if if it is true that EP 40 is refused to work with the sedans He should be traded ASAP. Remember that story. He's never been I'll leave it like this. He's never been warm and fuzzy with the sedine twins I break. I'll wrap up the show in the poll question next.
