Can I still lost six straight? Do I go through all these negative numbers here? Sure. Can I still lost six straight? Dead last overall in the National Hot League. Outscrewed 15 to four so far on this road trip. Three games. They lose five nothing in Toronto Saturday. Just 11 points out of a playoff spot. Only 11. Only 11. So in Montreal, are they on the ice still with their morning skate? No. Okay. So they've completed their morning skate in preparation for today's game against the Habs. Same with the Habs. They skated before the connox. You look like Gringo Star there. You're playing the drums. Star was good. Very good. He was really good. Is the drummer for the greatest band in rock and roll history? He wasn't bad.

So all sorts of information coming out of Montreal. We've heard a couple of friends of ours. Let's start with Thomas Drance. From the athletic on Twitter, a regular on our show on Friday. Adam Futt noted today that that your damp go is still being evaluated. The team is hopeful for good news. His injury absence could also be an extended one. Now, damp go flew back. He got hurt in Toronto, Donnie Saturday. Flew back yesterday morning. To Vancouver, he will be evaluated today. A couple of people have told me they're thinking groin. May have re aggravated the groin. We're going to wait. I've had a little bit of pushback on the groin. His groin. Not my groin. My groin's fine. But anyways.

3:07You don't want pushback on the groin. You don't want pushback on the groin. Look, Donnie. We'll see what happens with damp go. But we're going to have to wait. We're going to have to wait. I love Thomas, but I'm thinking it's hopeful for good news. And his injury absence could also be an extended one. He's covering all bases. The way it's been told to me is I think they gotta do Donne a full scale. Set him out for the year. Full scale on damp go. I don't care if you take 10 weeks or two months or three months. If you take 10 weeks or two months or three months or six months, get this guy a hundred percent. This is his third injury this year done. Number three, not one, not two, but this is his third injury this year. And you know, this is also going to screw him up for the U.S. Olympic team because I was told he would be the first guy called up in case of injuries. I mean, that could, you know, this could, you know, play havoc with that. So let's just. I can't believe they'd be considered him at this point.

4:08They did. I know they had been considering him. Oh, big time. They thought. Right. Right. But, but at this point, but look, Rick, in terms of setting him out, I will get to the other information in a bit here, folks, the other connects information. But his contract, his new contract, his extension starts next season in over eight million dollars, three years, it includes a no movement clause. Yes. Unless he waves that, I mean, I don't think I'm sitting trading and whatever the case may be. But you've got to have him healthy. I don't even know if he if it's possible for next year that this season is right off. Have him rest as long as possible. It means the whole season. That's fine. Take some time and look at everything, everything. It's causing him every three, four, five, six weeks to get another injury. And you talk about a trade with Demp go need one team in the NHL that's lining up right

5:09now. Don to take on a gold tenor who's been hurt three times, but I wasn't talking about a trade. That's what I mean. Yeah. You've committed. You've committed to them with a significant contract. Yes. At least it's three years and not taking that on, not eight like other players, but you've got the populace. You've got the groin. You've got the hips going the way back, the knee, the groin, the pump, and when he's on, he's the one of the best goalies in the National Hockey League. We have to make that. But he hasn't been all that great lately last six months. He's lost. Look at that game of Toronto. Three goals. Three goals on six shots. Three goals on six shots. Oh, he goes. And we taped an interview with the Jamie McClure half an hour ago and he was like me. I thought when I saw Lankin and in it was, he was young because of performance like yanked, but it turns out it's, it was an injury. Maybe he would have been yanked anyway. I'm not sure. Okay. So the other news from Thomas Strasse. Right. Item number two. Marco Rossi, a big piece in the Quinn Hughes trade still two, three weeks.

6:11He's been out a couple already. So that's been a little bit longer than we thought. And look at this key for sure what he's injured. Oh, boy. I'm sorry to laugh, but it's almost comical. It's comical because because one of the few rays of hope for the connox is key for sure. But in terms of his performance, but also his U of A status, which is let everybody to think, hey, they're going to trade him for some future asset. And that's a positive. But now we find out he's injured and you'll wonder about his trade values as a result. You do. He's still leading the team in goals. Sure. It's still playing well. 390 leads the team in shots on goal. He's powerfully penalty. He works hard. He skates hard. Look, there's nothing wrong with Sherwood. He's nothing wrong with that. No, no, no, he's hurt. He's hurt. And for people who can't see this on the podcast, Adam Fletzingy could miss as much as a week. Oh, boy. That's an a team that scored nine goals in their past five games. Brock Bester hasn't scored an 18 games.

7:12Whole Glanders got no points in 10 games. You have got all these guys and slumps. And now you're leading goal scorers out crazy. Yeah. Okay. So with all this in mind, is it Thomas who has the lineup for us? Yeah. Are we paying him today? Thomas? No. Right? It's a joke. Thomas Drantz has tweeted out from the morning skate, uh, the lines. Yeah. Okay. So you want me to say him? Okay. So here we go. I set you up. Yes. Set me up. But you know, I always need to go ahead from you. Yeah. And to brusque camp is with Bester and Garland. So there's Bester in one goal in 25 games. So you're playing with a center who's got no playmaking ability. Well, we're going to play Brock's going to score 10 goals tonight. Pederson and Bester don't work well together. I understand that. Garland comes back and he's playing on the left side. Top six winger. And you got a fourth line center with him. You think he's going to score? Why don't you excuse for every single player? Stop it. Every single player that doesn't play well. So you think of top six winger should have a fourth line center.

8:15You're done. In what world? What's the other choice here? Well, that's the reason. At least Pederson's not a top six center. I'm sorry. They're the weakest right now league at center. Anyways, camp Garland though is a story here. He's a played driver. Okay. No, but no, he's back. He's back. He's back. That's the story. So that he takes the place of Sherwood, even though in this case, Garland a right hander is playing on the left side on a line with camp for Bester. Yes. And then Sassan's with O'Connor and O'Grinn, and you hate Liam O'Grinn. Well, why you see that? I never think that good. He's a good show. You see you called him at this point. No, you guys. Oh my goodness, you guys. You guys are talking like he's Gila Flurr. I just said, give him time. You did not. I said, you did not. You used to be work. This kid's coming. He's a good kid. Anyways, Ratu with Kane. Here's another one. You're trying to trade of Andrew Kane. You said you're going to rip everybody. No, just listen to me. You're trying to trade of Andrew Kane. Yeah. He's got six goals.

9:16He has a score since 1971. And now you got him with Ratu and Hovander on the fourth line. Like where? People are well aware of the Vander Kane's abilities. Right? He's been the, this just then. He's been in the league for a long time. Yes. I don't think it matters what exactly. And what line he plays on. So you do the defense. Well, no, hold on a sec. You had some news about a Vander Kane. I wasn't here on Friday. Oh, so a Vander Kane. Well, they're trying to move him. Yeah. But they offered him to the orders. Yeah. Well, they had a couple of people telling me that, you know, they tried to pedal him back to Edmonton. And the owners, that ship is sailed is what the way it was described to me. Defense now. Yeah, exactly. And you do the defense now. Get it up there. Right? Ryan, get it up. Or Derek. Both you get it up. The Atlanta with the Heronic. There is a, what couple of bright spots for the Conox this year. It's been great. Especially since the use trade. Yeah. Big time. And I think, I think most people would agree that Tom Vylander, I'm trying to be positive

10:19here. Unlike you. He's been good. Tom Vylander has exceeded expectations. Yes, yeah. Fair to say. Amazing what happens when you get more ice time. And you play with a good center. Yes. Which wouldn't be the case for a defenseman. P.O. Joseph on the left side with Tyler Myers. And then Marcus Pedersen, fresh off his fight with Domey on the weekend. Not good. Is that that your man seen you up from avid cert. Zebe. William is a healthy scratch tonight, Donnie. That's the centerpiece in the Quinn Hughes trade. So, okay. So we're told that the Conox are in 30 second place. We're told. Play the kid. We're not told. We can look at the stand. If you can't play the kids when you're 30 second. When you're going to play the kids. When you're sixth overall. Best team. If you're top 10 team. If you can't play them when you're dead last in the national hockey league. What's the, what are we doing here? So, William is going to be a healthy scratch tonight. Right? Elise Pedersen, the defenseman, sent down Abby yesterday. Look, they both made mistakes. Glaring mistakes in the Toronto game Saturday. Yeah, I think it's fair to say that.

11:19They're young. Elise Pedersen, EP25's game has fallen off since last year. That's it has. Which is a bit surprising because he's more experienced. He had the wrong read in Toronto on one of the leaf goals and in the boom. Man seen he's back. That's good. Well, Andrew, they're playing them on the wrong wing to the offside. He's a right shot defense. He's playing on the left side. But, Donnie, if you can't play these kids when you're 30 second. When you're going to play? I disagree with you. Why? Well, because it's Adam Fitzgerald coach and he knows a thing or two. Say what you want about the way the season defense goes. He knows the thing or two about playing defense in the national hockey. I think he's sending a message. This will be one game. I'm sure. And back he goes. He's still learning the NHL game. And so I don't, you know, I don't have a big problem with this given the fact that the big boss on the weekend in a conversation with Ian McIntyre was going to join us in an excitement. Talked about why he used to use their word.

12:20He was the rebuild. Finally. So you feel that maybe the best thing for Zib William is to sit and watch. I don't think it's a horrible move. It's a horrible move. I get where you're coming from. He's young. I also get where Adam foot is coming from here. I'm just happy. Look, I know everybody wants to rip into the connects right now. They're 30 second. You know, wasn't it just yesterday? They were showing all that promise in the 2024 playoffs. But at least now it seems like there's a focus. They've actually gone out and said the rebuild. We've got that quote from Ian McIntyre like Thomas Trance with the connection on the road in this case in Montreal. But on the weekend, he wrote a fabulous article on sportsnet.ca conversation with with Jim Rutherford. And this is the quote that really stuck out for a lot of us. So over the past few years, this is, these are Jim's words. Over the past few years, our staff has done a good job and we have a number of good young players.

13:21Whether they're in our lineup now or are close to getting in our lineup, and those players are going to get a chance to play. Yeah. Other than Zeeb William today. Based on the circumstances with this team, this is the year to do it. The fact of the matter, Rick, is we're in a rebuild. I know he said he's said that word before, but to see it in printer on online on the weekend was. They have no choice. They have no choice. They have no choice. But to say we're in a rebuild because they're in 30 second. But let me. What took so long? I'll tell you what took so long. They did not start the year to be in 30 second place. This year was all about very aware of that. Donnie, this year was all about winning for Quinn Hughes to resign. Yes. Yes. These guys got the 30 second place by mistake after mistake after mistake. They did not get to 30 second because they announced a rebuild in August. So let's get that out of the way. They have no choice to say we're in a rebuild when they wake up every morning now in 30 second place. So let's get those facts out of the way. When I see this, and again, we've heard that word before from both Patrick Elvin and Jim Rutherford,

14:23but it really hit home on the weekend for me with the Ian McIntyre. Yes. Obviously Francesco Aquilini is on board with this. He has no choice. None of them have any choice. Well, he's had the choice before. Not now. And he hasn't taken it. And I think as much as people wanted to think that you said it, Rick. They made a mistake after mistake after mistake. That's why they are where they are. It all starts with the $11.6 million a year contract. And we could go on and on about that. But at least now, they seem to have somewhat of a focus. And it's interesting tonight they're playing the Montreal Canadians, who as I've talked a lot about on the show, they had a documentary done on them last year and titled Rebuild. Look where they are right now. The third place in their division, one of the great young teams on the national hockey league, their rebuild started strangely enough after they made the Stanley Cup final. Remember that in the bubble in the semi bubble in 2021. Yeah. Yeah. You know, out goes Mark Berger van,

15:23in comes another management group and they started that rebuild. And everything is hunky-dory. Okay. Well, let's let's keep it that way. You don't want to get on a winning streak here, Donnie, and blow it all. So let them know. You know, you find that rebuild we talked about. Forget it. We're going to make the playoffs. You're finally got what you wanted. Are you happy now? You should be doing, you should be doing the Toyota jump. Toyota jump. What happened to car wheels? No, I remember in the 80s, the Toyota jump. Yeah, do you remember that? Yeah, the Toyota jump. Remember the commercial for Toyota and everybody would jump like that in the air. We'll find, we'll try to dig that up on YouTube. Who doesn't know the Toyota jump? Who doesn't know a car wheel? DTMZ, is it just me coming up in the 11 o'clock hour? Jamie McClinnon is going to join us just after 11 o'clock. We'll talk to Jamie about. Well, one of his favorite players in the national hockey league. That's your dimco. Yeah. 18:29You're starting to hop and pop on a Monday morning. Yeah, no surprise with this given what's happened since those two gentlemen took over the Connuck organization. No, Ian yet? No. We should mention one thing that we didn't mention, roster-wise, with the Connuck's the keto telepillo is up. The telepillo is going to play tonight because it's back-to-back. Connuck's in an Ottawa tomorrow. Yeah. And Lankin, we would assume, is going to play against the troubled Ottawa Senators more in that situation with Jamie McClennan during the 11 o'clock hour. Okay. So we're waiting on Ian McIntyre. I believe he's at Duns or Schwartz is getting himself a smoked meat sandwich. In terms of the Connuck's committing to a rebuild. And again, the word is being used. One problem is during a rebuild, you often want to see veteran players. If you're committed to it, you want to be able to move veteran players.

19:32So EP40, Besser to Brass, Chronic, Marcus Patterson, all currently have no movement clauses. Garland and Demko will have no movement clauses starting next season when they're contracts. Their extensions kick in. So very difficult to make some moves right now. These no movement clauses, no trade clauses. Well, just handcuffed teams. And this goes back to Mike Gillis with the Connuck's really handcuffed teams. But you see a situation like J.T. Miller where he waves that clause. If it's really bad. Off it goes to New York. It's got to be real bad for a guy to wave his no move. Real bad. Have we got smoked meat in there? Yeah, smoked meat plays. He's in Montreal. He covers the Connuck's for Sportsnet.ca Connuck's in Montreal tonight. And McIntyre has interviewed Jim Rutherford. The article is entitled in the throes of a hybrid rebuild. Connuck's keep all options on the table. And from Quebec, the problem is so Quebec, he joins us now.

20:32Better late than ever. And thanks for doing this, sir. How are you? I'm embarrassed. I feel shame. I got the time wrong. So you're welcome to call me smoked meat or anything. You're entitled to somehow in my head. I had 130. So I got back to my room from the morning skate because I was over at the, over at the Bell Center and wasn't really paying too much attention. And then I saw Ryan's note. Are you there? So I apologize. Well, you know what? I don't blame me for being distracted in Montreal. What a city. And there's no better place to watch hockey game in the Bell Center. With all due respect to Rogers Arena. Yeah. Yeah, it is. It is a special place. And I tweeted out, and I won't waste the time talking about a thing. I wrote 10 years ago, but I tweeted out a story. It's one of the favorite ones that I've ever written. When the connox came here right after Jean Bellevue's death. And he lay in state like the Canadians transformed their arena into a funeral chapel.

21:35And you wouldn't have known it was a hockey arena. And Jean Bellevue Casket was a center ice with a spotlight on it. His widow was there. His daughter was there. His granddaughters were there. And there was a line of thousands of people snaking out onto into the middle of winter in Montreal waiting hours to come and pay their respects to Jean Bellevue and, and Bellevue's family. And that was the moment when I realized, you know, when people talk about hockey and religion in Montreal, it really is special here. It should be on everybody. Every hockey fan's bucket list should be to see a game at the Belle Center. And if you haven't been there before, folks, this is just me. You don't even have to go in the arena. That what they have outside the arena, the statues, it's just absolutely fabulous. And by the way, the job they did honoring Ken Dryden with a spotlight on the mask earlier this season was just something else so simple and just so so bang on. They understand their place.

22:36That's the thing about the Canadians. They understand their place and what they mean to this province. Jim Rutherford used the word rebuild in your article. And he's used it before, but it really stuck out for me on the weekend. So looking back to the spring of 2024, and I think what could be deemed success for the critics. Looking back to the spring of 2024, how tough do you think it is for Jim to use that word right now? I think in a way, he's actually relieved to use that word, because I think he's trying to establish some clarity about the direction the team is going. Now, to me, they have been trending this way. If you go back to last year, you know, there were times that Patrick Alvin and Jim Rutherford said, you know, we need, we're trying to get younger. You look at the deals they've made, but mostly, especially you look at their big deals, including the Quinn Hughes trade. They're always bringing in younger players than who was going out. So I think I think he wants to make it clear because there's so much,

23:41there's so much debate in the market. There's so much hostility and disappointment and frustration and all of those emotions are understandable, although I sometimes have trouble with the hostility part. But I think he's trying to offer clarity about the direction the team is going. I know it's not going to satisfy everybody. It might not satisfy most people, but I think it's pretty clear they have this plan to keep getting younger. You know, they've got, I mean, they've changed their defense for tonight and Mancini's up. And EP2 is now an avid sport. But for the most part, they've had three rookie defensemen 21 and under and they've had four first or second year forwards up front the whole season. So clearly they've been a young team and they're going to continue to get younger, where they can't add any more prospects, adding if they make a trade. And I think one thing I took away from my interview with Rutherford is that everything is on the table.

24:43This isn't, as we know, this isn't a full rebuild. They're not just going to have a fire sale and give away everyone for draft picks. If they can, that's not their intent. Some veteran players, but everything is on the table and they're listening to other teams on some of the veteran players. But obviously it's complicated. Once players have no movement clauses, it's hard to make the best deal. It's hard to get full value back in return. But if anyone's wondering about or worried about, well, the connects are going to get stuck with all these contracts. Well, I think most of the players they have could be moved. But obviously you have to, you have to navigate those trade protections. Now, one of those guys with a big contract, Ian is Elias Pederson, the forward. Two for nine, two for 11 of the face off circle Saturday, one shot, six power plants. What's going on? Are we going to see ever Ian, the guy that had 100 plus points again?

25:43Well, we saw, we saw for, well, that's a good question. And by the way, Rick, I'm glad that there's somebody in this market who pronounces his name worse than I do. Well, what are you talking about, Ian? What are you talking about? Elias Pederson. Elias Pederson. I said Elias. Elias. Elias. Well, what is it? Tell me. I get it wrong. I'm not the guy who asks. But John Shorthouse tells me it's Elias. Elias. Elias. Elias. To your question. He's been here 500 years. I know. We're bringing it up now. Listen, other than being late for the show, it's my greatest regret that I can't pronounce his name. I don't know. I'll say this. I don't think we're going to see not in Vancouver. We're not going to see Elias Pederson as a hundred point score. I would argue we did see him as a first line center at the start of this season. Now he wasn't getting points, but he was really digging in. He was competing. He was going up against the other team's best players every night.

26:46And of course, this was mostly without a safety net because the only other two NHL centers the team had got injured on the same game in Washington, October until Pederson got hurt in November. I thought I didn't really have any problem with how he was playing, even though he wasn't getting the points. He was competing and he was in. He was there at the front trying to lead from the front and was playing hard for this team, but he just hasn't been the same since he came back. And it's really perplexing that there are games like he had Saturday because the great players and a lot of people have made this point. The great players are if they're not great, then they're good, at least on their off nights. And if they do have a really bad game, it's a game or two. It's not two weeks. It's not two months. It's not half a season. So this is one of the great... Pederson is one of the great mysteries of my time as a Canucks beat reporter.

27:49I know that he's going through a lot personally, and I appreciated that he talked to me when we were in Detroit last week. He talked to me about how hard it's been losing a baby, his wife, his new bride had a miscarriage. And so all of these guys have lives away from the ring, which I think we need to always remember. But Ilias' struggles, of course, go back a lot more than just the last couple of weeks, and pretty much all of last season, the end of the season before, after he signed his contract, we remember how quiet he was in the playoffs. So I don't know what it's going to take. I do know, though, having watched him at the start of this season, he has it in him to be a first line center in this league. Is he going to be a superstar again? Right now, I think it'd be hard press to find evidence to make that argument. He's going to be a superstar again. But he was on that way up until two years ago.

28:49Maybe he can find his way back to that level, but he certainly can play at a level better than what he has shown the conucks. Ian, when I look at the center ice position, and they had Horvat, Miller, Patterson, Lindholm in the last two and a half years, and when I look at this team in 32nd place, I look at the center ice position. They're one of the weakest teams in the center right now in the NHL, if not the weakest. It's going to take time to get some good centers back and back to where they were when they had Horvat, Miller and Patterson. Yes. Yeah. And I don't argue with you at all, Rick, about their weakness at center. And it was a weakness coming into this season. And you could say it was a weakness that wasn't addressed in the summer as well, that they weren't deep enough. They weren't strong enough at center. And then Bluger and Headle got hurt on October 19th, the same game. And so then you had Patterson working without a safety net. I think it says everything about this season, though, that the conucks go out and they get Marco Rossi, who is certainly legitimate middle six center, but based on his points,

29:53you know, his first two full seasons in Minnesota is really a second line center looks like he's going to be a second line center. I think they had two games with Rossi and Patterson. And that's just how this season has gone. And Rossi, of course, we're still waiting for him to come back. But yeah, I mean, they have, luckily, they, they seem to have made a really good selection. With their pick last year in the middle of the first round, getting, getting Braden Coots from Seattle. We know that they're going to have a high selection this year. I, you know, it's tough when you look at a lot of draft projections. There's not a whole lot of centers in the top 10, but there are obviously our centers available. Yes. And they've got, and they've got the extra pick and they're not trading that extra pick. So they'll have two selections. I think between the two, they'll make sure they get another center, but you're right. It takes time as good as Coots was. I mean, this is, this is his 19 year old year. So maybe in two years, maybe next year he can be on the team, but maybe in two years, he'll be ready to sort of make a dent.

30:57At the NHL level, it is going to take time. And then if you do trade Patterson, which I, again, I, I think is on the table. I'm not sure that it's probably, I don't think it's probable, but it's certainly possible. You're subtracting another center and, and you're making yourself weaker at that position. But it would all depend on, you know, who they're getting back. And of course, they're going to clear a whole lot of cap space if they can make that trade. So yeah, this is, this is now the top priority. And it seems like everybody in the league wants the same thing, which makes it harder. We're getting short on, thanks to you, actually, but we're sure on time here. I know. I know. Did your brother for talk about his future at all, Ian? Yeah, I didn't, I didn't ask him in that interview, Donnie. I remember talking to him. I guess it was after the press conference last year, where he said, you know, somebody asked him in the press conference about his future. And he sort of half joking, half serious, said, well, don't know what else I would do.

32:01But then he said something that was interesting to me that he doesn't feel good about the job he's done here. And with what he has achieved in his career, taking two franchises to Stanley Cups, you know, being in the Hall of Fame, he is literally a living legend in NHL management right now with the Knucks. I don't think this is the way he wants to go out. I think he's pretty driven that he wants the opportunity to oversee whatever form this rebuild is. But it's some form of rebuild. He wants to oversee this and he wants to get this team to a position where it can challenge again. But right now, guys, as we know, that doesn't look like it's right on the horizon. But I didn't sense, I don't have a sense that Rutherford's commitment or determination to do this job is, is eroding at all. In fact, I think because of the way the team has struggled last year and this year, some of the miscalculations, such as the Miller Patterson dynamic, I think he's really determined to turn things around here.

37:06regarding Jim Rutherford's use of the word rebuild. There's another quote that I think you and I both found really interesting. Have we got that? Ryan? Derek? Yeah. There you go. Go ahead. You have to have the right veteran players to mentor these up and coming players. If you do that, the rebuilding process doesn't have to be nearly as long. And we happen to have some very good veteran players that can, and I believe, are willing to play in a situation like this and be good mentors. If you're going to go young, you need vets. Remember when the Kinex Scott, Roussel, and Beagle, and everybody freaked out? What are you doing? What are you doing? Beagle just came off the Stanley Cup in Washington. He won them the great examples. Donnie, this core was young. Patterson was young. Hughes was young. Dempkel was young. All these kids, Besser was young. That's why they got Roussel and Beagle. Same thing here. Now you're going to go with youth. Make sure there's some good veterans like Garland, like Myers, to help these kids.

38:06Right. And the problem is, if you do want to move some of these players that are veterans, and you would think what the focus on a rebuild you would, you want to keep some of them. I get that. But there's all these no movement closures. There's none of them, which really get in the way. I had this best explained to me by Trevor Lyndon when he was in charge of the Kinex, when he's president of the Kinex. The reason you keep veterans around, and you see somebody like Tyler DeFolding with San Jose, is because you don't want to have your lineup full of young young players, really young players, and nothing else. You would rather have them experience losing 3-1 on a regular basis, or 3-2 versus 8-1 or 8-2 every single night, which would just demoralize them and maybe affect them adversely to the point where, you know, Lord knows what could happen with their futures, and teaching players how to act off the ISIS as well.

39:06But you don't want those lopsided scores each and every night. Bad for business, bad for the customers, but bad for the young players as well. So the veterans help keep those scores down. Bad for the confidence. Yeah, eliminate more of the lopsided losses. And if you ask Trevor Lyndon, who helped him in the early years? Well, hell snaps help. Hell snaps, but another guy was Ryan Walther. Ryan Walther showed Trevor the importance of being a good pro on and off the ISIS. Those guys help. Okay, you got some business here, Ryan? Mr. You know, a pulse three experts. What's with the two-tone thing? I don't know. I don't know what is going on. It's just a weird-looking hockey rink. Yeah. I think at this point, they're just happy. Yeah, yeah. The building. The tournament there.

42:11So was it all smooth during the game? By the way, this is all courtesy Chris Johnson of the Athletic. He went over there and did an expose. A mess of peace for the Athletic. Talking about this. During the game, there's a hole in the ice. They had to bring out ice workers and a watering can to fill the hole. On the ice, I believe it was during the second period that this took place. They very much, the players that played in this game, this Italian Cup game, by the way, downplayed a big time. They said the ice wasn't that bad. They had no real issues with it. Well, it's good that this is going on, though. Well, as opposed to, hey, this is the first event that's the first games that are going to be played here. And it just happens to be the Olympics. Absolutely. This is actually positive news. Absolutely. See, I look at the positive side. You usually do. So that's what the building is look like on the ice, okay, for the people in the building. This is how the dressing rooms look, though. As of Friday. What the? It's a little behind schedule. I would say they still have some work to do. I can just imagine Sidney Crosby dodging wires and scaffolding to try and get through his locker out of a candidate.

43:17I don't know, man. I know projects get delayed. And they're apparently still pinning some of this on the whole seven years. I know. I know apple time to get this done. This should not be a last minute thing. I know. This is ridiculous. The ring looks awful. The ice is awful, according to reports. Dressing rooms aren't done. Like, did anybody tell these people that hockey's important at the Winter Olympics? Yeah, I don't know. What's going on here? This is disgusting. I don't know. So the players are apparently going to be in these trailers. That's going to be their locker room. Oh, it's what they're going to do with. I mean, this isn't getting done. I'm sorry. Like, I don't care who's working on this thing. And they're not building the dressing rooms. This in 20 days or whatever it is now. Any older, barely players, which I was, this reminds me of when they made the conversion from four rings to eight rings in, in Bernabé. And we had to, we had to change in trailers. I don't think any Olympic terminal is building. I was going to say four rings or eight rings. This is disgusting. Yeah.

44:17This is absolutely bushly. Now, like, one thing, though, Milan has accomplished that even the Vancouver Canucks kids can not accomplish. They've built a practice facility. Oh, yes. Look at this. Now, it looks a little sketchy. It looks like a barn, essentially, with an ice rink in it. But this is going to be the practice facility that they're going to be using for the Olympic Games. So that looks like up north in Heith, Alberta. I did a game in Heith. This looks like the ring. Is there a town in Northern Canada? Hey, I was in Heith. It's about 10 minutes up from Grand Prix. Yes. Yeah. Beautiful town. Yeah. It looks very, I don't know. The lights are not on all the way. It looks like a bubble. Like, it's inside a bubble. Yeah. Yeah. It looks stuffy. Like, someone's hovering over you. This is disgusting. No, but at least they have. They've built this at least. Because the one thing that they're very concerned about with the arena is the non-construction. No, but how is the ice going to hold up?

45:17Like, three games a day, day after day. I saw the number. It's like 35. That's for the NHL, which it has, has to step in. Yeah. Well, they, but they only can do so much because this is the IOC and the double-eyed Jeff's baby with this thing. You know what? The more you build the ring. The more you hear about this and you know how upset I get. A lot of people get about the lack of marketing you can do with Olympic highlights. You can understand why the NHL bet. And they hesitate to take part in these things. Oh, yeah. The top of what it does to the schedule, which I'm okay with, but just like, come on. Well, and I didn't know reading about this turn apparently was a bit of a disaster as well. Yeah. Not to this extent. Like, they're cutting it insanely close. But turn apparently had the same kind of issues with construction and all that. I don't know. I don't understand. Like, like, CJ and his article was talking about how they didn't really get underway with all the stuff until 2023 coming out of COVID. But delays. But, okay, 2023, we're three years after that.

46:18I mean, look at the people they had concerns in August that they weren't getting this going. I mean, we've been out of COVID for a bit now. I don't understand how they're getting it this close, but anyway. But you just said it too. And, you know, if you've had a house built or any sort of construction project, they're always way behind. But this is the Olympic. This is the Olympic Games. I don't know. Anyway, they've got, they have a bracket. It's not a country that has no hockey. Like, there's an Italian pro hockey league. Like, they know hockey in Italy. Yeah. This is like, they're good at building construction. Because they don't know construction. Like, my goodness. Yeah. Anyway. They have all the great Italian builders. They're Italian. Come on. Yeah. But I guess they're more building more important things than the arena. I'm not sure. Okay. So, speaking of buildings, the Buffalo Bills officially will not play another game in a high-mark stadium in Buffalo. Right? Because the chargers losing yesterday killed all possibility of them having a home game. So, high-mark stadium is gone.

47:18Right? They're going to be tearing it down. They're going to be moving into a new building. But the Bills, okay. They are auctioning off parts of that building. You know, remember, be the seats. Here's one item they're going to sell. They're going to sell the urinal troughs from the bathrooms. They are up for auction. I don't have the price of the trunk. No. Like, whoo! Does Jeremy Dodd from Maybellock? I don't know. I don't know. But front-office sports is reporting that the urinals prices, by the way, for seats. If you want to buy one of the seats. They're up for auction so they can go up, obviously. But prices for seats start at $549. Goal posts. Parts of the goal posts. That would be kind of cool. They start a hundred bucks. They're also going to be auctioning off chunks of the turf. And pretty much any other valuable part of their stadium. All through the collectible exchange auction. Which apparently has done work with Yankee Stadium, Tech Stadium, Madison Square Garden as well. Who would want this, though?

48:18I mean, I know there's kitschy things out there. Remember, really wise that maybe people want. Who wants a urinal trough? Yeah. Who wants that? Yeah. First of all, who has room to put it up in your house? Well, this is in the house item. I mean, it's... Where would you put it there? I don't know. I wouldn't buy it. It's not I might have bought it in a bathroom. Okay. Yeah. I really, a large bathroom. But I remember, I don't even know if it's still there. They had the trough steel and that belly. Yeah. My kids thought it was the greatest thing in the world. Yeah. Well, how about the Coliseum? The Coliseum was essentially a wall with the drain on the bottom. Yeah. Well, that's the same thing as that belly. That's what... This is different. Yeah. This is like... You can have the stainless steel sound. Yeah. Which is not what you want. Yeah. But... Yeah. The splatter effect with the... Oh. In these situations is not... Yeah. It's not great. You know what I mean? I'd rather have the trough than the floor. Maybe not. Maybe not. Maybe not. How are you guys doing today? Very well. Very well. Much better than the connects. And there, as I mentioned, in Montreal. Hey, what's the connection mind and the weekend news in mind? What is it like? I don't know what your experience is like regarding this situation. But what is it like playing for a last-place team, clearly looking towards the future versus the present? How difficult is that? It's difficult. But as a player, you're just trying to win every game. And I'll give you an example. That's a little bit different. I was 30 years old and I played for the Minnesota Wild in expansion year. So you're a new organization. You can't expect it to lose every night. But it didn't mean that the guys didn't try and win every night. And you're basically fighting for your collective life as a player. Because keep in mind, when you're on the last-place team in the league,

53:23not a lot of teams are going, hey, I need to have that guy, you know, as a solution for my team who's in the playoffs. So a little different because when you're on an expansion team, you are a cast off, especially the old traditional expansion teams. You are a cast off. But I look at Vancouver. They've got lots of, I'll call it currency. Now, the question is, do the guys who have long-term deals want to stick with it? Or do they want to waive their no-move clauses and maybe move on to a different situation? I think that's what the organization has to sift through. Is do you have guys that you want to keep to help the young guys get to the next level? And then maybe some other guys you can move away from if they want a new situation? Jamie, that's a damn cool. That's a damn cool. We know what a big fan of his, you are. Yeah. But he's injured again on injured reserve played one period on Saturday night. Is there, is there something about his style that can lead to injuries? No, I don't, I mean, again, now I'm coming, coming from a stand-up gold tender

54:27who didn't have the flexibility of today's gold tender. So I can't come at it from a position of maybe strengths when it comes to that. But he's no different than any other gold tender. It's just unfortunate that, you know, he's had these injuries. I don't know if it's the same reoccurring one. It's just frustrating and it makes me sad. Watching him the other night, he obviously wasn't very good. I just thought he got pulled all of a sudden the next day. You know, you're hearing of the left with an injury. Do you leave with an injury to get pulled? Well, obviously, left with an injury. But he was no good anyways. Like, that's what stonker, you know, for me because I looked at it and I thought, okay, if Vancouver's going to get out of this situation, they're going to need their gold tender to steal a game. And I thought, what better situation? Hockey night on Saturday night. You know, maybe Demko can shine under the bright lights. And he allows three in the first period and we never see him again. And it's unfortunate and it's frustrating. In my understanding, does his no trade kick in at the end of this season?

55:28Like July 1st type of thing? Yes. So I mean, you know, what does he want to do? What's the organization going to do with him? You know, I think that's the biggest challenge. You've got a lot of question marks, you know, moving forward. And he's one of them. You know, he's he part of the solution or part of the problem as far as, you know, you've got to move away from players just because you can't trust that they're available to you. That's that's sadly where I think people are at with Demko because you guys know how much I love him. And I think he's a Vezna winner when he's healthy. But it just we haven't seen him healthy and so long. It's frustrating to to watch him go through another injury and believe me, if we're frustrated in the media as fans, I can't imagine what the player is going through because, you know, it's really hard on you mentally when you're not able to your body is not able to play the way that your mind wants to play. Jamie, you're close to the situation in Ottawa. Linus Almark, Boyle Boy, you know, the Twitter stuff, the, you know, the tweet by the Ottawa Senators.

56:33It looks like a really tough situation for the team. Does it not? It does. I, what bothers me about it is whether the online conjecture is true or not. I don't know if Ottawa shows a path that made, you know, didn't fan the flames. To me, a lot of times when you have rumors, you guys can actually speak to it better than I can. All of the talk last year with Miller and Patterson and all these things. And then eventually it had to be addressed inside the dressing room and it had to be addressed in the media. It took forever. I don't know. Maybe they're looking at that and saying, let's get ahead of it. I'm not privy and you guys know I do 50 other games. I'm close with some of the guys. I'm close with Travis Green. They tell me that's not true. What was online? So I just, I have to go for face value. At the end of the day, what it did is draw attention to it. It drew attention to the online trolls.

57:33Now, I respect Steve Stales a lot, making a statement trying to, you know, back your players. But ultimately, the other day Saturday morning, Brady Kachak's talking about it. Tim Stutz was talking about it. Sometimes ignoring that online conjecture, it just goes away. But unfortunately their play is, is talking like it affects them. And, you know, they can't get a save. They can't get the, the right play at the right time. And, and they're in a funk. And guess what? They play Vancouver tomorrow in a back to back situation in Vancouver, whether they lose or win tonight. I think they're a dangerous team because where they are in the standings. If they just relax and play, there's a lot of talent on that team. And if they have a good night, they can catch some of these teams that are very fragile. Obviously, Otto was a very fragile team. All right, Jamie. The devils lose nine. Nothing. Jacob Markstrom and net for all nine goals. Did that surprise you? Like you should he not have been taken out? More than surprised me. You know, it actually, I, my heart hurt for him because I know Jacob personally.

58:37Second of all, I love him as a goal tender. Yes, he hasn't had a great season. That, that happens. Good guys can have off seasons. But I don't know the nature of why you leave anybody in for a nine spot ever, ever, ever. Unless Jake Allen had food poisoning and was unable to play or be at an injury that they, they would like you, no matter what you're staying in. Jacob Markstrom's a badler. It wouldn't have surprised me if he said to Sheldon, leave me in the whole time. But for Sheldon to come out afterwards and say, you know, we thought we were in the game. When it's seven, nothing. And yes, you're out shooting them. I believe the shots were like 44, 24 when it was all said and done. But at the end of the day, you don't embarrass your goal tenders. And to me, it embarrassed Jacob Markstrom. And again, I don't know the nature of the back story. I don't know if there was an injury or if there was something else where they couldn't put somebody else in. But I had a rule as a goalie coach. The number, if the number six shows up, I didn't want the seven, the converted touchdown on my goalie.

59:42So no matter what, and I can give you a case in point, the last game of the season, when I was the goalie coach for the Calgary Flames. I believe Henrik and Daniel Sedin. I think Henrik was going for the scoring race. And I believe the Conox hung like a seven, two or something on the flames. And I think the other way around the playoffs and AV actually came over afterwards and apologized because he had the Sedin brothers out. When you guys when Vancouver was rinsing us and he was just saying, I wanted to give Henrik an opportunity to win the scoring race. So we, but I remember radioing down and saying, get Kipper's off out of there. I think it was at five or six. You don't embarrass your guys. And to me, that's right. That's why I'm telling that story because I knew it was going to get to seven. I didn't want it to be hung on one guy. The tandem, no problem. But one guy, anything over six to me is that I just hate that number. Seven always felt just an awful number. Six, you felt like you could live with. I don't know. Let's get back to them for a sec. He connects a month. Rob, you mentioned that earlier. The Habs committed to a rebuild. It's kind of a strange situation. They make the Stanley Cup final. Out goes Mark Bergerman. Incomes Gorton and Hughes. They commit to a rebuild. And it's been successful. Seven pick, seven first round draft picks they've acquired since 2021. Now they traded some of them away, but it's been successful successful. Look where they are in the standings. What can the connox learn from the Habs rebuilt? That may be going scorched earth or maybe having a retool situation. The pain isn't as bad. Now, if you do it properly, you don't have to go scorched earth where it's like, hey, you are embarrassing yourself nightly.

1:01:47What you can do is have, you know, dignified losses. What you can also do is give young players an opportunity to grow. And that's the biggest thing. I think what they did is they placed, you know, they drafted well. They were able to trade for some good young players and allowed them to grow right in front of our eyes. And the key I think they had, they kept the right players. They kept Gallagher. They kept Jullar Mia at one point, you know, they kept Josh Anderson. Guys, they could help and show the young players how to be good pros. And to be honest, like, look at Mark Bergman's body of work. Like, yes, there's certainly some things you can point to and scratch your head. Every manager has that. Trade for Nick Suzuki. Nick Suzuki's there. They're happening, you know, there are some picks in there that are a real pivotal players for their organization. And I think, I think you look at Gordon and Hughes. They've done a fantastic job. They've stayed the course. So if Vancouver wants to learn one thing is stay the course.

1:02:50If you're doing a retool, a rebuild, stay with it. Don't get excited when the team maybe jumps ahead of schedule. And hey, they're, they're maybe, you know, playing better than we thought. Stay the course. And I think it'll pay off for everybody. Yeah, have a focus. Okay, so still with the connox. And we haven't talked to you for a few weeks here because of the holiday break. But I got to ask you this because the connox right now is we speak dead last in the national holiday. So that brings up the NHL draft lottery. What did you think of Gavin McKenna's performance? I'm going back a bit here, but Gavin McKenna's performance at the World Juniors. I didn't love it. I, you know, to be honest, but that being said, I don't put as much stock in the world as everybody else on the planet. I think it's a good tournament. I think it's a great building block and a great experience for a lot of these players. But whether they play great or they play poorly, it's two weeks of their life. And that's the way I look at it.

1:03:51And this McKenna is a hell of a player by all accounts. He's a good person and and and all your research on him. I don't think should change. But I didn't think he had a great tournament. On, you know, on the flip side, Pratt had a great tournament and he said some stuff and people in Calgary are pissed at him that he's got to go back and clean up. So at the end of the day, again, if you're focused and you think you can get a McKenna, that could be an organizational changer or maybe some a building block. You have to look at it and don't allow two weeks to maybe, you know, skew your thought process. Everybody has a bad couple two weeks and it's not like he was awful. He just wasn't as dominant or as advertised as I thought, put it that way. So, you know, there, he's a good young player. I think who's going to be an organizational changer. So I wouldn't read too much into it. Just before I let you go, your numbers with the wild that expansion, you weren't bad. Yeah.

1:04:51905. See a percentage. 264. Oh, yeah. You didn't save 525 and 8, though, too, didn't you? No. I got news for you. I think it was worse than that. But no, but you're, you're same percentage and goals against. We're darn good. Okay. How many ties did I have that year? I don't have my stuff. Okay. You're actually, you're just off 523 and 9. You're, you're 529. I have nine ties. And I think two of them were zero zero ties. Can you imagine the amount of like non like you would have to give the fans back their money. We're trying to, you know, if we do it right, we can turn it around quicker. Jim Benning used to say that, oh, two years. I'll fix it in two years. And the owner hookline and say, oh, no problem. Jim, I'll give you 20. What are you saying here? I'm saying their actions will tell you, Don. Yes. Yes. You could say rebuild. But if they're not going to do rebuild things, then it's just all. The Hughes trade. Talk no action. The Hughes trade pointed to a rebuild. Yeah. So if you're a rebuild fan, which I am, that you would look at that as a positive. I don't buy that. The Quinn Hughes wanted a trade. They had no choice. Had none to do with the rebuild. We'll look what they got in return. Yeah. Obviously you're going to take young, first-round draft picks. Yeah.

1:08:54And a first-round draft pick that hopefully they'll use in 2026. And that points to a rebuild. And the defenseman, they're healthy scratching tonight, Don. Okay. So meanwhile, if you want an example of a rebuild that is moving in a positive direction, look no further than the Montreal team, the connocter taking on tonight. They've made seven deals since 2021 when their rebuild unofficially began. The seven deals that saw them acquire first-rounders. Now, they've made other deals where they've given up first-rounders, like the deal for Noah Dobson. Yes, for instance. Yes, yes. Right. So there's that. But by and large, they've focused on youth and look where they are now. Siding young. Young, fast, skilled, beautiful team to watch. Okay. So meanwhile, connocters in Montreal tonight and Rick, maybe a recap of what's happening line-up wise for the connox courtesy Thomas Trance. Yeah. So, Trance has got, quickly here, Zeeb Williams, who they got for Quinn Hughes, the major P.

One goal in 25 games. He's God, can't lose the centerman. Kane, fourth line, whole-glander, fourth line. Should he just all play in the first line? How about getting him a center? Don forwards out there.

1:10:58How about getting him a center, Don? He's a top-sick, he's a sniper. He's a top-six guy. Who are we talking about here? Besser. Okay. Kane, he got to get him going. Who's a play driver, though? Who's the best play driver of those toes? Garland. Yeah. And so he's with Besser. He's not there. He's center, but he is a play driver. He's playing on the center. Garland comes back into the lineup. Sure what injured is out. And what's going on with whole-glander? Zero points, 10 games, fourth line. Like, what are we doing here? He went for one. I don't think he's their biggest problem. Donnie, he went from one to three million. He's a three million dollar forward, Don, on the fourth line. Your fourth line should not have three million dollar forwards. Rick, three million a season doesn't scream top six. Okay, but three, that's your biggest problem right now. The biggest problem is the guy in the middle of the first line. I'm sorry. That's your biggest problem. Patterson. Who was two? Two for eleven and face off Saturday. He's been in the national hockey league seven years and he's still working at skating. You don't get 100 points in the NHL if you can't skate. I mean, he's almost a point for a guy. He's a trick talker, say. Yeah. He doesn't move his feet. He doesn't move his feet. And how many more years left?

1:13:01I think he's a good skater. I didn't say he was a good skater, but I mean, you know, Brock Bessier's not a good skater. What's he ever gotten? Good enough to be in the national hockey league. Thank you. Thank you. But how many years left on Patterson's deal? At 11-6. I think six or seven. Well, six after this season. It would be nice if you had a big deal. It returned to his old form.
