Jake Moody Signs with Washington Commanders

Jake Moody, the kicker once drafted by the San Francisco 49ers, has signed a new one-year deal with the Washington commanders. This comes right before he could have hit free agency next week. The move locks him in after a solid finish to his season with the team. Earlier this year, the 49ers cut Moody early in the 2025 season following a tough week-1 performance. He bounced to the Chicago Bears for a couple games, then landed with the commanders for the rest of the year. Moody joined the 49ers as their 99th overall pick in the 2023 draft. Before that, he started Michigan, earning all American honors twice and winning the Lou Groza Award once during his five-year college career. His rookie year looked promising, with an 84% field goal rate and leading the league in extra points. But in 2024, he dipped to just 70.6% on field goals, prompting the cut.

1:01Lately though, he went 18 of 20 on field goals and 13 of 14 on extras across eight games. Meanwhile, the 49ers replaced him with Eddie Penero, who stepped up big last season.
