The legal tampering period in the NFL kicks off at noon. Recording this right now at 11.50, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced they have resigned linebacker. Dennis Gardek and linebacker is a... It's an interesting term, and Dennis Gardek is now speaking with the media. They're doing all this virtually and the timing is all weird and stuff, so I'm not on that call right now. I was just on the Quentin Morris call, but it's a hectic, crazy day right now. But the Jaguars have resigned linebacker, Dennis Gardek, did expect him to be back a player that I valued, the Jaguars clearly valued. I don't think that this is going to be a big price point for Dennis Gardek, just because he's a very specific player. The Jaguars within their defense, this Anthony Campanilla defense, they found a very specific

2:03role for him. Now, there's some versatility within that role, but he's a very specific player. I think he did a great job for the Jaguars, and he was like game plane dependent on how much he was actually going to play in a given game based on what the opponent was doing, that the Jaguars were trying to attack and dictate their opponent, all that different stuff. We'll dive into it. We're going to have a lot of content here today already talked about the Buster Brown extension. So the Jaguars now have brought back Quentin Morris, DJ Dallas, Keith Taylor, Matt Dickerson, Buster Brown, probably missing somebody, they've been very active in bringing back guys. Obviously, Buster Brown is the biggest name from the group that they've brought back so far, but they've been bringing back a bunch of the guys that they brought in last year that really fit their system from a character and teammate in the locker room on the practice field standpoint, but also a production profile standpoint.

3:05Dennis Gardek, he played a hybrid edge slash off ball linebacker position, kind of like a Sam linebacker in a lot of ways, where he would drop into coverage at times, he would also blitz, he would also set the edge, he would do a lot of different things for them and he came over last year a little bit later on and I was excited about the signing when it happened. The reason he was available late into the summer last year was because he was coming off of an ACL and he's had two ACL tears in his career. So obviously at 30 years old last year when he was signed, there was a little bit of concern about age, wear and tear, all that stuff, but it was a good low risk, really no risk signing by the Jaguars for a guy that they knew on the field, like Liam Cohen had coached against him in LA. He was in Arizona his whole career before that, Dennis Gardek was. And James Gladstone had been on the other side of that with LA as well. And so they had seen this guy as a special teamer, as a pass rusher, as just a versatile

4:08player. I mean, they called him the barbarian in Arizona, I believe that's what his nickname was, but just plays like a banshee, plays like a barbarian, whatever you want to call it. And a guy who, again, was a really good tackler for the Jaguars last year, was a good blitzer and pass rusher, like he would blitz at times, but he would also legitimately just rush the passer off the edge and then he would drop in coverage a lot too. He had 165 run defense snaps, 135 pass rush snaps, 146 coverage snaps. And he was out there on the field, offenses didn't know exactly what he was going to do. And that versatility within the Jaguar scheme and his ability to execute and all those phases, to me, was really good. I think that the weakest part of his game is coverage is what you would expect, right? But he's also, again, if you need him to be a core four special teamer. Beyond those defensive snaps I mentioned, he had 84 kick return snaps, 102 kick coverage

5:12snaps, 25 punt return snaps, 29 punt coverage snaps, 43, field go block snaps. I mean, he was doing it all. After I transitioned from the military, I joined the CIA. 7:18Again, the pseudo off-ball linebacker, edge-shedder spot. I think that they have other guys that they've brought in as well that can do that. I think Yisir Obdula is in that mold. You also talk about, they drafted Jalen McCloud last year who he was able to start practicing a little bit towards the end of the season, didn't really play. He was on injured to reserve most of the year, Jalen McCloud was, but he'll be a factor in that position group as well. But Gardeck, I mean, he's your guy in that mold for 2026, easily. And that was something the Jaguar has needed to address in my opinion. I thought that they would bring Dennis Gardeck back and be watching the end of our coverage. I thought he would be back for the team. But he's such an interesting guy. He's like, funnily enough, his most defensive snaps this past year was against the Cardinals. He had 53 defensive snaps. He had other games where he had 33, 33, 37 defensive snaps.

8:18But then there was also some games where he just wasn't as much in the game plan because of, again, specific schemes that opponents are running or what the Jaguars are trying to do to attack their opponent. He only had seven reps against the Bengals. He only had 16 reps against the Colts in week 17, 18 against the Titans in week 18 in the wildcard round. He had 23. So like, he's a high variance usage player on defense, but even when he's not playing defense for you, he is making an impact, positive impact on special teams. And that's very valuable. So just a guy you really like to see another one who, like so many of these guys that the Jaguars have resigned or extended over the last three, four, five months as Murray's trying to get in the camera here, say hello. So many of those guys, undrafted for the agents, late round picks, but they come to work, they do their job, and they're excellent at their job.

9:20Dennis Gardek certainly fits in that mold. I'm excited. He's back. I'm excited now that, you know, Jalen McLeod will have a chance to be on the practice field more with Dennis Gardek and learn more from Dennis Gardek. I really like the Jalen McLeod pick because he's a player who played off ball linebacker, played on the edge as well. So he can really learn a lot from Dennis Gardek if he follows him. And you see, Abdul is a good player too. He will be going into the final year of his rookie deals. So I don't know if he'll be in the future plans, but I think as a, another guy who can play special teams and compete behind Dennis Gardek, you see Abdullah makes sense in that role. So they've got a nice rotation of guys for that, if you want to call it Sam, if you want to call it hybrid edge slash off ball linebacker, whatever it is, they've got a really good group for that. Now, at linebacker, because you know, this is a linebacker position, you're still looking at potentially losing Devon Lloyd.

10:20So if that is the case, do you replace him in free agency? Do you add to the group in free agency and maybe have ventral Miller and Jack Kaiser and another guy be competing? Do you wait till the draft? There's a lot of different moving parts there. I still think the Jaguar is absolutely want to and need to upgrade their pass rush. They need more guys that can really get after the quarterback. Dennis Gardek does help in that regard. So that's a good thing. Buster Brown solidifies that cornerback room. What's going to happen at running back with Travis ETN? We're about to find out a lot of answers and then this thing's getting kicked off. It's 11.59 as I'm finishing up this recording.
