Islanders Trade for Schenn, Blues Get Value

In the deal, the Islanders sent a 2026 first round pick, a third round pick, forward Jonathan Drewen, and goal-tending prospect Marcus, Gildoff to St. Louis. Shin had to wave his no-trade clause to make the move. Earlier this season, the Islanders also picked up Andre's Palat and some draft picks from the New Jersey Devils. These buys signal general manager Matthew Darsche sees them as playoff contenders, especially after a solid run lately. Fans and analysts are scratching their heads over the Shin trade. At 33 years old, he's posted 12 goals and 28 points in 61 games, but his skating has slowed down, that could clash with the Islanders' faster style, and his $6.5 million cap hit runs through next season. Meanwhile, the Blues come out looking smart.
