Islamist Militants Kill 15 in Nigeria Attacks

The strikes hit military camps and villages in Borno and Yobay states over the weekend. In Kukawa district, fighters from Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa province over ran a camp in a three-hour battle. Troops fought back and retook the site, but lost their commanding officer and five others. Other assaults struck Dauwa, where militants killed two soldiers and three residents before burning more than 250 homes. In Ganiri, they overran another base, killing four soldiers and setting vehicles and buildings on fire. This violence is part of a 17-year insurgency that has killed thousands in this place two million people, according to aid groups. Local leaders and residents confirmed the heavy losses. Nigeria's military has stepped up raids on high-dows this year, but the groups keep hitting multiple spots, despite warnings from intelligence about A, possible offensive.
