Irish Dance Academy Celebrates St. Patrick's Day

0:00From Anchorage, this is your March 17th update. The Irish Dance Academy of Anchorage is celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a series of community performances. These events let students showcase a style of dance that requires real strength, precise timing, and lots of practice. Students like Zita Lindemood remember not liking it at first because she was not into moving much. Over time though, she grew to love dancing with friends and staying active at home. Others, such as Gianna Lewis, push back on the idea that Irish Dance is not real dancing. They stress how much effort goes into every step, setting it apart from other forms. A key move called the whip involves a tough jump where foot placement matters a ton. Get it wrong, and the whole routine falls apart. Dance leaders say St. Patrick's Day is huge for them, as they share Irish culture and get cheers from crowds. Tonight they perform at 6.30 p.m. at organic oasis. 7 p.m. at Riley's Irish Pub, and 8 p.m. at 907 Allahouse.
