Iranian Cleric Calls for Holy War, Escalating Tensions

This comes as Iran faces intense airstrikes from the United States and Israel which have targeted its leadership, missile sites, and nuclear program, the cleric stressed a need for national unity during what he called a major test for the country. Iranian leaders reacted strongly to a U.S. Navy strike that sank an Iranian frigate in the Indian Ocean on Tuesday night. Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi called it an atrocity, saying it killed at least 87 sailors out of a crew of nearly 130. The broader conflict began on February 28th with the allies launching coordinated attacks and hinting at goals that could include toppling Iran's government.
