Introducing Untold: Opus Dei

About this episode

Introducing Opus Dei, a new season of Untold from the Financial Times. Host Antonia Cundy uncovers the cultural and political influence of a controversial Catholic organisation in America. Opus Dei exists to help people get closer to God, but some members say they found other agendas – and unexpected harm – entangled in that spiritual mission. The first episode of Untold: Opus Dei launches March 25.

0:00Opus Day is a controversial Catholic group known for its orthodoxy and discipline. Aristocracy of blood, intelligence and wealth we want to only the best, only the best for God. There's always been an idea in Opus Day of trying to be near the best, the elite of society. I'm Antonio Cundee, I'm a journalist with the Financial Times. On the latest season of the Untold Podcast, I investigate how Opus Day has become central to the American Conservative movement. We were the closest tabernacle to the White House. From small town chapels to Ivy League universities and Washington's corridors of power, this is a story about Opus Day and the role it's playing in reshaping America. Officially now, Opus Day does not get involved with politics, not discuss politics, opposes not convey political views, unofficially though completely different story. From the Financial Times, Untold Opus Day is out March 25th.
