Hello everybody, welcome to the Buck Island Weekly podcast. I'm Tony Gurderman here as always Whip Tom or Tom. How's it going? Tony, we are one game into the Ohio State football season. We got a score where we were both exactly four points off of our pre-game score predictions and in a lot of ways looked a lot like what I was expecting but in other ways was completely different from what we were expecting after all these months of talking about it. Yeah, it was a rough rough start to the running game for Ohio State and they were getting at one point there were two yards of carry like well into the game. Yeah, yeah, and then Bo Jackson bricks off the 65 yarder and now they've got 99 yards rushing and it's like the running game is I was down there with one of my I'm not I'm not going to mention anyone by name just to be hasty as I might mention by name but it was down the roof one of the other photographers. She goes what is wrong with the run game today and then immediately boom 65 yarder coming right at us and it was like well they said thank you they said thank you you fixed it right there but you know

ball states head coach said after the game they were really pleased with how they controlled Ohio State's run game in the first half. That was you know that was not something that I was really expecting. Now I don't think Ohio State dug real deep into their bag of tricks but this was also a game where you sort of would have assumed okay this is a game where Ohio State should just be able to sort of win the line of scrimmage and you know you've got the talented running backs and that should end up with hey first down after first down and that wasn't really the case early. No they kept plugging away but the pass the game was definitely worked with so it's like first down run second down run third down pass for you know pick up the first down started all over again but it did take a while to get going and you know the bulk of their rushing yards they finish with 237 yards that is a fake number yeah though because 137 of those came on free carries so outside of that you're talking 32 carries for 100 yards three yards of carry three yards of carry

in the ball state just so you know is going to be about 1.5 yards per carry against Texas. Now the difference is I would assume this would be a and maybe Ross and Michael could talk to you about this during the week how basic and pedestrian was this rush and attack and and then did they change some things when the initial stuff wasn't working even though they figured like one way or another it's if it doesn't work when you're going to keep doing it because we're not going to lose but we'd hammer some things out literally figuratively they've got to get the running game figured out and then you know eventually as you keep pounding and pounding things are going to hope it up but you would like to be able to have just like seven yards run after seven yards run then there's a 24 yarder when you overmatch the opponent but there are times where the middle was getting blown up yeah he had more was having issues and run defense or run blocking yeah still Daniels at one point for for pass blocking and run blocking got benched right yeah he got pulls at a

and cycled went in and I thought I wonder if this was the plan but I don't get the sense that it necessarily what did Brian Day say anything about that he was asked about it and he didn't answer also so they did not the plan so they had to fix dude and the thing now this this year was the last year was the first year at the i-Fans where he was the first to stick instant back and so yeah they don't want these problems showing up next week so you're gonna nip it but it's quickly as possible they pulled him and they're like at one point he went right back out Philadelphia and he gave up a quick sack yeah yeah right off the right they're gonna back out the following drive as well but I watching this and knowing the game threads in Twitter I'm assuming there was a lot of talk about the offensive lines yeah and I think that was you know everyone was sort of predisposed to be concerned about that and I know we've spent most of the offseason repeating what we're

being told and repeating what we've seen to the to the degree that we're seeing things because we're seeing stuff in practice the first three days of fall practice and then you're talking to people and they're saying the right things and they're acting as if they're you know they're doing all the stuff that you would assume that they would do if they really did feel like they were okay but yeah that was definitely not you know in more seem like he had some moments filled Daniel seemingly he had some moments not you know not not great ones but you also I feel the interior of the offensive line and you probably have a better sense for this and I do but the interior of the offensive line felt like that was pretty good well and there were times where they were definitely pushing it later on but like initially nothing was working and before Isaiah West finally gets to come in and his his current plays are getting blown up like crazy so yeah like the two long runs these weren't just flutes where there's a huge wide open hole like these are running backs doing some things and the work that they put in in the offseason in terms of getting to the second level

breaking tackles and making making guys miss that was very apparent in this one when you had Ho Jackson making guys miss and then yeah to Kobe Jackson reading his blocks for all 49 of his yards basically yeah and doing that so he is together I think there's two really good runs and that's like we always talk about when we're watching the Michigan Monday because so many times we watch Michigan it's like struggle struggle struggle boom justice yes or yeah well if you take away the long you the one long run this is what actually happened right and here it's like well if you take away the two and a half long runs it's like it's not good not good enough the place still happened to in both Jackson is you know nine point two yards of carrying to Kobe Jackson 10.4 yards for carrying Tom how could you possibly complain about that right and and yeah this is one where it's it's live-dam lies and statistics where you know you look at the rushing yards and there I mean the right there on the screen for you you look and you go boy yeah 10.4 9.2 6.2 5.2 5.2

who could possibly complain it's like well yes but it's it's the dawn of an Edwards you know this guy ran for 10 yards of carry as a high of state like well did he we get a super chat for Robert Howard we got to do he says boy this is you what you want to do for here you go if super chatting to tell us that we're awesome and the people should join the site Robert congratulations I don't want to say we have a favorite member for the site but I'm not so it's that's it he says if you haven't done it yet I strongly encourage everyone to come join the community at Buckeye Insiders now time for some Bebo off the grill yes and first of all thank you Robert for the Super Chat thank you also for being a member at Buckeye Insiders and we have had a really really fun fun first a couple of months there already if you are just finding us and somehow are you know sort of tuning into Ohio State coverage for the first time in a while and thinking what do they mean in a new site well you can find us at Buckeye Insiders.com you have Ross Folton and Michael Patent or Scheme Guys we'll have a segment for Michael Patent a little later on in the show

we've got Marcus Hartman covering basketball we've got Jack Mulletti covering recruiting I mean it is a busy busy very very fun community a lot of stuff going on a lot of videos YouTube videos dropping today as well. Oh uh-huh a whole lot yes you've got council's at Buckeye Insiders where you might be right now yeah after this there's plenty more for you to catch date Jack headed into the reaction yep you we had Jimmy Kressel's unveiling and it's October Jim Kressel afterwards about that we have ball states post game post press conference there we've got Ohio State's post game press conference up there are already scenes before the game yeah behind you see inside like you want to see what inside those fancy hundred and forty thousand dollar sweets so there's a lot there we're gonna have a little bit this week because he did mention something about Beavo I'm not sure I'm not familiar with his game but I think I think there's gonna be another football the only time while for gonna have Texas week is I would say not even when we get home it's like sleeping walking out to the garage before we drive home yeah I thought this week was busy yeah this is yeah this is just ball state week so please come find us over Buckeye Insiders.com all right so um so that's the

that's the first uh I think topic we needed to get to do we want to talk a little bit about the wide receivers do we want to talk about the running bags yeah we talked about legend bay okay well let's talk about legend bay because six carries 37 yards he had a touchdown was that was that was in a reception reception was there was a reception that's right I was gonna say yeah six yards behind the line of scribbles but it turns into a 25-yard dot and and that was um that was incredible yeah well I mean I'm in the end zone getting getting that and and um he it was just kind of it was it was like a Ted Ginn play it was you know he catches it and it's like oh well too bad there's nothing there and then up up up he he gives you he's not from the Midwest but he has already got the Oblivious Labrade past year there and you know we'll we'll there's your receiving leaders on the day Jeremiah Smith 8 for 151 um one and a half in one half and what you saw on the last drive of the

first half was they could have done that every play of if they wanted it to get Jeremiah Smith 23 catches for 450 yards and six touchdowns they absolutely could have done that the first half like there was the last drive right before the half or ball state kicked the field goal and you could tell that kind of anoidal high-o-state a little bit and that was like all right fine we're just gonna boom boom boom boom boom we're gonna you know this it was it's mango don't shoot him you'll just make it mad that was kind of the the kicking the field goal for ball state but yeah eight catches 151 yards for Jeremiah Smith a couple touchdowns Devon McEwen six catches 97 yards he had a touchdown that was another one I mean he he was dynamic you saw some of the different stuff that he can do he was not a one-trick pony you saw him in a slot at times you saw him outside at times Brandon Innes Brennan Innes started had a really good start in the game and the did he come back out after he was down on the look I don't know that he did I see was I you know he returned a

punt later on did he towards into the game okay yeah I think he just got the win knocked out of him he got something oh did he okay yeah it was just what I heard as people were kind of like laughing about it okay laughing at him yeah okay yeah that's what that was so on his keys right yeah that that was he uh because yeah three for 36 for him but the first half of the first quarter I thought he's gonna he's gonna have 150 yards in this game and then he just kind of didn't they didn't throw them later but yeah legend bay two catches for 37 yards let's what we're talking about legend Bay I want to let you guys hear from Jacobi Jackson because Jacobi Jackson was uh we asked him a little bit about legend Bay after the game and just sort of what he brings to uh what he brings to the team and uh then you'll hear me ask a quick follow up and this is this is just a quick clip what you just wanted to share this like coach say he's like a lightning in the bottle like any time you get the ball when he hears anything he can juke through the fitters it goes straight to the career to the touchdown so I'm kind of still like very explosive uh to play size in his age right

now and hopefully just continue to grow and get better was there one play during fall camp or many this spring before he got hurt that you looked at and it just like you get the plays where everyone just starts hooting and hollering like did he have any any of those yeah you have those all the time you know I think they're just kind of his game without if you don't if you don't have a lot of hooting hollering when he uh running the ball they know I think he's he's not himself at that moment because he's going to make a lot of people with a hollering when he run the ball no so no I think that's it all right I think I think we got all the way through that one so but here's here's legend bay right here and you said you did I love this photo because uh and he's pointing at Brandon and it's and it's like I wish we had the other photo we're Brandon no brands of the stop sign for the third base coach and he did it twice and um right day obviously not happy with the first one and he said go the first mistake is fine you can't make it again and we didn't see him for a while after that see I was wondering the way he ran the first one out I thought

I wonder if he was told I don't care where it is run it out because it was one where he caught it he's kind of going backwards he was six seven yards deep in the end zone which is that's an easy like automatic no the way he returned it I thought I wonder if they said we just we just want to go ahead and do it it's fine we want to see you try it apparently not no I think Brandon tried to stop him there uh huh as well but like yeah and then the second one when I bring it in just I'm going to try to tackle it because then bay stops like to go line he's like he's already crosses isn't well yeah they got to go I have rules of the game you know it's like I think he's got his eyes down field yeah rather than on Brandon and us for that first read in terms of it you don't go anywhere but uh I just like it where legends basically basically like no you got to turn around the block I'm telling baby you you block those guys yeah yeah turn the block me Murphy Seraphino says didn't don't see legend being back at kick returner next week I I he only had two attempts

really two opportunities and he had two opportunities where he probably ran through a stop sign so you know you do not have the margin for error next week and it wasn't like he you know it's a no no no no no yes where you you know don't what are you doing what are you doing what are you oh okay well all right well we'll forgive it because you win 107 yards it wasn't that he got tackled at the 10 he got tackled with a 15 like he didn't he didn't get to the 25 combined between the two returns so yeah I I would be a little surprised if he didn't have just you know good nice safe Brandon and us back there to fair catch and just make sure you're not putting the offense in a bad situation because it's it's a it's a trust thing it is a circle of trust thing and you know you were you're a freshman and you're a standout and everyone's excited to see you and it's like well all these people came to see me might as well give them a show all right well I'm gonna blame Brandon and this we're not having you know like more in fact I know please

don't come up to you saw everything that Ryan Day was talking about with legend bay with the ups and the downs and oh yeah yeah the when balls in the hands he's electric but sometimes things are just like yeah I wish he wouldn't have done that you've got to learn from those mistakes he still needs to show that he can learn from those two mistakes but yeah like he is different than anybody else they've had or they have with the ball of the sink because he's so quick and even on like a six-yard carry he's making two guys just all right and wingman Ted says I'm a little late need if needed to find the new channel any guesses for the cot of shame that's you know I know I know I have I sure I got one of those right I got my three pointer I believe for the for what really three Ohio State quarterbacks throw touchdown in this game I believe they did well that can't include 17 to 33 yards a 34 yard is allowed where was oh so that was 20 to 25 yards for legend bay

victory and I just this canceled my my three pointer was 3 34 yard rushes and I missed that by 10 yards of legend bay I don't that's like this guy that's disappointing uh we'll we'll have to tally that up a little later on but yes that's a that's a uh that's a uh dev McEwen touchdown at j-10 is two impact place he had two pass breakups Jordan Thomas with an impact play I don't know if you had a pass breakup but yeah and then I don't think you got anything squirt on every first half possession that they've been green out the first first possession for Tom impact play on specialty because they didn't even make up feelable three different buckais will have 50 yards way off guy girlie points out they did hit 220 220 but of course neither bus picked it so so of course they did thanks wow they threw for 434 yards no that can't be yes they did they yes wow because uh say it was 671 yards wow it's been a while since they've done that I'm gonna have to put together a graphic for that you did that you did that your two pointer were 240 yard rushes okay

there we go congratulations it's probably enough to tie fantastic we both have to be caught on shame can't all right so much shame all right so so do we want to hit the Jordan with a superchat by the way if you want to hit the superchat we yeah think got all of them oh nope you're right uh the running game is true the running game was really girding it up early on they got the question glad they tapped into or mode the final of breaks and big runs listen what is what is the solution to everything stop girding it out thanks Jordan thank you for the superchat tapped into or mode so I think for the quarterback position yeah were you surprised that it was like faith I was julien saying 21 for 25 320 yards three touchdowns no interceptions yep that's exactly yeah that's what that looks like that's exactly what you'd expect from him absolutely the fact that Luke Fahey was the next guy out was very surprising to me and we talked

about this all week it wasn't that it was unthinkable but Luke Fahey was going to be the second you know it was gonna maybe be ahead it just sort of sets it up where okay now you've lost this race and you're behind this other guy and you know they both finished five six Fahey for 62 yards St. Clair for 52 yards both through a touchdown Fahey had an interception that was tipped by a defender tip fire receiver it was kind of like yeah I thought it like Chris Henry Jr. right in the chest that maybe he got tipped before it got there it looked on this scoreboard like he got tipped on the so even his interpolation was like between the numbers well I mean it got tipped so it was it was on target yeah yeah so it was very surprising to me that they were willing to just sort of like publicly put that out there and Tavy and looked fine in the time that he was out there but you know does this say more about Luke Fahey the fact that

Tavy and looks completely fine but then also the fact that if it's close you would assume they default to the older guy so does that tell you does that say a lot about Luke Fahey rather than you know well Tavy and it's not right Tavy is not good enough I think this maybe says more about Luke Fahey that they're willing to just say yep here's QB2 yeah and Ryan said that you know it's still not an ongoing thing you know the plan was to play them both in that series and one guy has to go out there first but you know what you're doing when you put the true freshman out there first you you have a stateless hierarchy now we've talked several times this week about this scenario and reminding people that in 2020 it was Jack Miller that went out there first instead of CJ Stroud even know everybody knew that CJ Stroud was the backup now this after watching this and seeing how well Luke Fahey played this feels very real to me and so real that when one of the members on

the Bucket Insiders message board asked who would go in for real like on a 36 yeah if Julie said came up with Prince like against taxes yeah Tavy and St. Clair has no more experience in something like that right Luke Fahey right so you've got to go with the guy that has shown that they can handle everything that they've seen and so far like at this point if you've got the true freshman that is already caught up then it seems to be like that is the back now what I do what I also think part of the coaching thing here is now the ball isn't Tavy and St. Clair is course yeah you don't like this do something about it yeah get better whatever it takes let this drive you we've seen guys that have been the third quarterback in the wire state going to do great things whether it's at the wire state or at LSU yeah so yeah this is just a little step this is part of the path and either let it motivate you let it destroy you like it's up to you at

this point yeah yeah it's it is a it's it's still you know there's still an opportunity he's still everything about Tavy and St. Clair that you you know we're that made him a five star coming into college he's still true he's still big he's still strong he still has a great arm he you mean the throws were good today it was just I it just feel you know it feels like you're still gonna bet on him to be successful wherever that is whether that's Ohio State or somewhere else but I just in general was just stunned stunned that that it was Fahey first just again not that it was unthinkable that he would be right QB2 but just that once you do that once you put that out there publicly it's like it's like starting a true freshman quarterback and you know you've got a veteran then you know you you you generally tend to start the veteran because then what you make sure the true freshmen's ready and then you play the true freshman if you put the true freshman in first

and then you have to bench him then that look you know then that feels like that's a real negative for the true freshman so again I would have assumed for sure it was gonna be St. Clair first but in Ryan Day as like made the the announcement of the Iron Buck I know that's just an in-house thing like right he tries to keep everything protect the players protect narratives keep things from getting out there and it's like this there's like no protecting where you know it's it's I guess maybe that's what makes quarterback different yeah you know that everything else it's like look you can't hide it right there's so much invested there's so much you know importance and I think this is very much our reward for Luke Fey like he heard this yeah so why would I deny you of that other than the narrative because the the whole point was like both guys are gonna play so why create drama that you don't need right now yeah now maybe there is no drama because it's clearly just Fey and then it is what it is and everybody on the team knows it right because

when everybody on the team knows it he'd do something opposite of that then you start to create questions inside which is much more right yeah that's a much bigger deal yeah people in the fan base complaining or gripping whatever that's they they talk about shutting out the outside noise and they talk about shutting and that's not just like you know the fans that's also the media they talk about not now do they some is there sometimes knowledge about things that they say they're not listening to yeah it feels like sometimes there is but you know they they they talk about shutting out that outside noise and so yeah you you have to you know maybe maybe the answer is a little different because you have Texas on deck and because you don't have the luxury of well it's it's the a year where they're gonna play martial next and they can play Kent State after that and then you're gonna play Rutgers and then you're gonna play a real team in October you're playing a real team in seven days and two hours and 15 minutes from right now so you know it is it's gonna get real real

soon for Ohio State yeah what do we got going on so is there anything yeah we can we can pull up some Geiger Lee says that we don't we shouldn't share the kind of shame which yeah I mean maybe apparently Oregon is not looking phenomenal right now they're doing nothing and got stopped on fourth and then like the first half like I've been so I've been working I don't know what you know yeah right yeah a little little bit yeah it's you forget how busy these game days are holy smokes I felt so bad for Jack that's like Jack can you do this where I need you yeah this we've got to run you down to the camera guy yeah I don't know if he's gonna come back next three yeah no no no I hope I hope so we have a plane ticket for him I hope he comes Jason's faith faithy if he did play in a West Coast offense Tavian St. Clair played in it running offense and they're both learning a new offense of court it this year not like Tavian St. Clair so the same one for two years which is a good point and faithy also played against really good competition like he played

top level competition out in California big school good competition and Tavian St. Clair played in Val Fountain where you're playing a lot of farm communities in West Central Ohio which is not quite you know those are those are not games that tend to end up on ESPN's high school coverage you know definitely that and that that was that's just an interesting thing where you know it's gonna take Tavian a little bit longer but he has all of the physical abilities so it's like it's good that he's gonna spend his first two years in theory yeah learning right you're three you're ready to go and sometimes like for Lincoln Headle sometimes you're three you run into another competition yeah that well now maybe year four we'll see how it's gonna go but um anything else offensively well I was gonna pop up the just some team stats real quick just since we when since we have them it's it's a you know you you look at the uh here we go uh you look at them and they dominated the game

I mean they they there was this was never in doubt it was just kind of how much it was exactly what was said before the game how much do they want to win by because they can win by whatever that number is yards per pass 11.7 to 3.2 that's you win yards per pass by eight and a half yards you're going to win most games uh especially if you're also winning yards per rush by four point eight yards yards per play 9.3 to 2.8 but as to your point like they hit the big one to Jeremiah Smith in the first half right right away you hit the 48 yards touchdown Jeremiah Smith and it was like okay well now they're just gonna do that all day but they couldn't they couldn't do the kind of meat and potato stuff which was which was you know again I to your point earlier I'm very interested to hear from Ross and Michael about what they were you know what they were sort of uh seeing in terms of how basic they they kept things today because I think they probably didn't keep it relatively basic 14 big plays in the passing game big plays being 15 yards or more that's that's pretty

electric and six big plays in the running game of that's 10 yards or more you saw that so it's like it did get better yeah but it's impossible to ignore the first half start before Bojackson went off and then the 99 yards rushing but overall yeah like 237 yards you'll take that every time rushing but yeah how they got it is still like it's not fake but it's not real no yeah it's not it's not real because in the way that they got there was they just kind of wore all state down and you're not going to be able to wear Texas down in the same way next week as Texas is a whole lot deeper and also a whole lot more talented and Jacobi Jackson one of the other things that he said earlier was you know as he was asked like who so were you doing something differently in the first second half he's like no it wasn't like they made some huge half time adjustment it was just kind of I think they just warmed down that's that's not something you're going to be able to rely on for next week yeah but tell you when Craig go with the super chat that

that's interesting yeah am I the only one who are remembering Eddie George fumbling a couple of times early in his freshman year Bay will be just fine after a couple of turn blunders great coverage gents love the stadium tour Tom yes I hope you guys enjoyed that some of twice against Illinois at least twice maybe I think it's three it's like three yeah as a legend yeah I think he's like he fumbled twice and you know I think like across the golem yeah I think that's right yeah and there was that his freshman year was it is right you're close to 92 so no the red shirt freshman year yeah but I think you could have sort of the same conversation about Chris Henry because Chris Henry had a touchdown pass that I mean that was coming that ball was coming directly at me like I'm glad he got his hands on it because otherwise it was going to hit me in the camera lens but he got his hands on it couldn't bring it in it was you know there was a guy there it wasn't just like a flat drop there was a defender there but I'm sure he was looking at the ball going hooray it's going to be my first career touchdown and then it wasn't and you watch

that and it's like hey I remember another you know youth minister strums the guitar let me tell you the story of another wider seeker who dropped his first pass that was going to be a touchdown for sure right day said the same thing to Chris Henry after the game did that Jeremiah did the same thing yeah yeah I mean it's it is a you know congratulations this is what happens with freshman like it yeah and and it's you know the fact that you're seeing these guys as early as you did I think it is maybe the most telling thing to me that Jeremiah Smith was I think it was Jeremiah Smith's first touchdown I believe Brock Boyd and Chris Henry were both out there with him yeah they were the other two receivers out there with him they were out there quickly they yeah that was that was the second drive because they went three now right yeah yeah but but it was you know this was not okay you wait till it's 38 and nothing or whatever like it was they were out there early so it's like I'm looking at Chris Henry junior stats one catch two targets and the one of the drops got wiped out because

of a hold yes yes all right like Chris Henry's like what yeah let's play never never never have it even if I caught it yeah pointless he says you got to get bayonet game next week I don't think there's any question they're gonna get him in the game somehow I don't know if he's gonna be returning kicks but you saw what he can do with the ball in his hands and there's no one else on that team at least in that running back room that can do exactly that like you saw more wiggle from Bojackson for sure but I don't think even I don't think Bojackson can do what legend bake him the ocean delights us as playful otters restore coastal kill for us the ocean teaches us how our choices impact even the deepest places the ocean connects us visit monoraybayakorium.org slash connects hi this is Dave Roberts heading into summer without a medical emergency kit that's a risk summer colds can linger and getting sick on vacation can derail everything that's why everyone

just if 24 points wins this he's a guy that can get you seven at any point and I don't like I don't like the the smile on your face about the super. no no no no no no no there's another one that's Jordan about me. no at TK wants to know legend. they on the field the JJ seems like a defensive coordinator nightmare. he wanted to know if there was any tension between the in-zone sweepable or the photographers. no no we are there was you know that the new suites on the south end zone are you know they are right there and the photographers are I mean not even 10 feet in front of them and if we stood up we would be blocking their view of the they're very expensive view of the field rest assured it was made clear to us we would need to be on a knee I have my my tiling my tiling knee pads on yes I have you can see those I have but like the guys who do tile work I have a pair of those because you're down on like the bumpy hard track and it's after

while it becomes a little unpleasant so yes I was I was extremely prepared for that today. that's and I I walked by there towards the end of the game and they all seem to be having a good time a lot of drinks lined up on the tables there so you know I would be yeah they're having more fun in the shade back behind us than we are in the sun yes then you've got like the big television camera in the end zone that is like in some of these way I don't know if they move that thing or if it just stays right there no it's it sits there so it's like the one sweep like yeah like do you like to buy a sweep and it's like there's an asterisk it's like what's the asterisk it's like well it's a limited visibility it's a structured view it's very abstractive you sweet like yeah you could you could you could that be a thing yeah yeah it's and I think there's they hit there's seating above those sweets I think the people can go up there as well but they looked to me I like no I didn't see anybody there as I was walking out that's like you just what are you they all seem to be I have a good take yeah I know I think and that's a very nice setup because I were telling

that we're telling you this as our audience because I'm sure you're all thinking like well I have a hundred four thousand dollars and I'd like to get a sweep all great news you can super chat to us and then we will get you sign up for you can sign up for let's see a hundred no a thousand years of membership at bataiensiders.com and we will honor that rate for the next thousand years yeah you can you can it feels like that those are a nice little spot because you're you've got shade or if it's raining you have cover and then you also have a little air conditioned room where you can you know oh it's hot okay go sit in the air conditioning and watch the game on tv if you want to but yeah it's it's those are those are a nice little setup I was not sure how that would translate to game day but I it seems like that's a nice a nice spot. uh butler buck mentioning that uh philip bell was an early he was well rocked wood with a nice catch on like a deep end route yeah so it was good to see it's like everybody's getting catches except

for Chris Henry I like he's like yeah I'm trying but it kind of you kind of knew that at the end that that one was going to go to him and and he got that one and now everybody can celebrate on the extra maybe like David Adolf who I think he got a catch but he was out there I he and that was a little bit of a surprise because right there's not much his name at all but he was out there early as well. Yeah yeah I would they that was a deep deep wide receiver rotation I I don't know how much to take away from that in terms of what does this mean for Texas I don't think we're gonna see six wide receivers in the first half against Texas. I think that's going to be you're gonna see Jeremiah Smith you're gonna see Brandon in this you're gonna see Devin McEvoy. Let's talk about Devin McEvoy and I also think you'll see Chris Henry Jr. and Brockwood. Devin McEvoy, John this is your first finally you finally got to see what I was telling you about all a long yeah that dude is legit yeah yeah that was that was a you just kind of I'm just sitting there

kind of nodding like all right yeah because you were at the first couple practices at the fall and you're braving about him to me and then I get there for day three and he does a couple drops and it was like man and you just and then we you know we haven't been in there to see we've heard encouraging things but you haven't been in there to see so yeah I I was impressed with McEvoy and I think he gives them it's not just that he's you know just he can do the one thing really well I don't know did they hit him on a deep shot I don't know that they ever did hit him on a picture they tried on the first blind over the shot but everything was kind of intermediate and this is like second level wide open but yeah right yeah yeah he was able to swim up and got one yeah yeah and and had had a catch and then a little bit of run after the catch for a touchdown but that was you know you needed you needed your Robin to Jeremiah Smith Batman and you kind of

feel like you could you could see that being the answer there yeah it talked afterwards and certainly lived up to the expectations that first game I actually lived beyond the expectations so could to see him do what he's capable of because he's got speed he'll go up and get it yeah let's talk a little about the defense and I have not gotten my defense graphic together sorry um Riley Petty John six tackles TJ Alfred five tackles had an interception as well but you know as far as the guys who were out there and those guys were both out there relatively early but TJ Alfred got to start yeah did he really yeah they started in three lineback okay yeah okay interesting that it was TJ Alfred and not Riley Petty John because I would have probably guessed it was Petty John ahead of Alfred and you had Zion Grady out there yeah I saw that a lot of interesting to take a look at the uh the snap counts and as I told you I could gonna also be interesting to see the force the mist tackles forced from legend bay you know

because they do that but defensively like they they played so many guys and then we got to see their um like the dynamalotment the the other nickel a lot but you saw Lee Roy Roker come out like on third and long when the when elves bells would start to ding you know Lee Roy Roker come out and you'd also have curry wilder come out harry wilder is out there early and was you know it wasn't incredible and there were a couple times that I thought I'd like to go back and watch this and look to see if he maybe over pursued something because there were a couple of third down pickups that it was like I don't have a great view from the field but sometimes there's a little bit of over pursued from young guys but again the fact that he's out there as early as he was because he was someone who we talked about on the pregame show is like oh I'll be here should just see him in a second half it was like hmm I'll be interested to see him on the second drop yeah no he is the interior defensive tackle on in the rushman package now that's what he yes that's what he is doing yeah he was playing some defense but the majority of the time when he was in there with the starters it was he was the past rushing interior defense event they'd have three

ends out there obviously like can you have a Jackson and either bowad kids and Zyron Grady but then you've got Carter Wilder inside and the first time he got through a double team forced the quarterback out that dude countercloster props him he is a tough yes yes to bring down but then you saw Kenyatta Jackson couldn't bring him down the interception to TJ Alfred was a forced pressure from Carter Wilder getting in there and just very telling when you see these guys these freshmen that are doing specific things like we've talked about Jay tenons being the nickel although he spikes an outside corner today as well yeah yeah and they rotated him and Devon Sanchez we're kind of rotating a little bit at times at outside which is interesting we'll talk about Jay tenons in a bit but carry wilder yeah being that interior pass rusher that Larry Johnson loves getting these big defensive ends in there out there down because think back to the the 2017-2017 where you've got Jaylen Holmes Nick Boeser and Tyke Juan Lewis all you know Sam Hubbers and you've got two of those

guys on the inside and then to see Carry Wilder be like you know what your R guy to do that is a huge testament to him and what they think of him and the plans for him not just this year but moving full yeah if you're out there day game one even if it's just in a situational role that's Devon Sanchez last year no that was Texas and not ball state but you assume if you saw him against ball state in the first driver the second driver whatever that was you're probably gonna see him in the first half next week and if they can get into that third and long kind of that was like a third and seven it's like they're gonna do a third long well if they can if they can if they can if they can force taxes into a third and long then then I think you probably will see him and that that's him there on your screen right now I didn't see anybody else in that role and tell maybe later on when you know stuff as the game is well over but that's your starting nickel package or your diet package yeah in that situation where you get me where Roker comes in J. Tim is in and to be part of a starting

package of which there were many says a lot about Carry Wilder and you know Lee Roy Roker has that essentially that third safety yeah he would be the next guy and he is the next guy and because he was the next guy in but yeah that's you know some interesting stuff to watch there J. Tim is J. Tim is there on your screen yeah one tackle today I think in a two pass breakups but he's out there he's looks comfortable he's the two pass breakups he's the coverage is right there on slants and he's got a charm out there he took on Calder cluster I think that was his one tackle and it was luster is running right to him it's like all right all right and he just kept going and J. Tim is what low and you know brought him it was like brought him down but luster still got the first down because you know how like physics works right yeah and yes and still like you know he fell forward across the line the first down marker but it was interesting to see him play outside as well I thought that was a yeah he wasn't expecting that and I'm just

wondering as as we're watching this like how much of this is just complete for show for Texas because how much outside corner do you expect J. Tim is to play against Texas probably little too none but you know maybe maybe that's maybe that's just sort of getting him reps there in case because who's the who's the third outside corner right now it's that well it's can't count who can count who was in the down Kelly yeah but he was in before can't count who did right yeah what I say he is I'm pointing at J. Tim sorry for those listening or not seeing where I can point on the other side of Tom's computer but J. Tim was that third corner yeah so it's they clearly he can almost do no wrong you know the coach is out because they're just like well let's try this we'll do that we'll do that yeah um the the one blitz study ad was it was it wasn't telegraphed but it was spotted and then they still tried to go through with it it didn't quite get there but bright future certainly for him and fascinated to see what happens within next week because this

it is what it is yeah oh yeah yeah this is this was we talked about this before the game it wasn't a spring game but it wasn't not a spring game it was closer to a spring game than it was to what's gonna happen next weekend so this was the you know the spring games that Richard Rodriguez has talked about where you have a spring game against another school uh huh yeah this was like it was kind of like that yeah yeah uh got a couple uh it's not really got a sec uh Doreen says where's Jack did he pop in? Jack was obviously here obviously all day he did an immediate reaction a post get immediate reaction post game show you can find that recorded on our channel um and then we'll have obviously playing more with him coming up yeah well next week we have we have some new constraints to the post games set up this year which has changed how some of this is structured but it's only for home games as far as we're aware so we may have a whole separate set up next weekend yeah Austin depending on how

I would say we're all free going to be live together next week yes however we have done shows before where it's like the barely the two of us can fit to a closet yes yeah post games so there should be room in Texas not from the three of us you would think we can probably get a spot on the field or something like that I would expect all three of us yeah we will and and if we we did the pregame show with Jack as well um so yeah we will have all of these pre and post game shows are well we'll see what the setup is and we'll make it work with whatever we got but uh we do appreciate you guys being here with us also like I was telling Jack this uh this week like don't you know things bad not bad things but things happened during the post game and we've been doing this long enough that everybody has seen it happen and when I say everybody I mean the people viewers yeah yeah yeah it's it's almost like the buck I weekly podcast where it's like where's the more I'm waiting for the noise yeah you guys have been around long enough to know that sometimes you know we've been in some some crazy places trying to get a post game show to you yeah

and and so we'll see what next yeah we've done the internet goes out we've had the been in the stadium and the lights just go out and it's like well I guess I guess we're done yeah we've had we've had lots of different fun fun stuff with with all that what was your single biggest surprise we talked about the QB2 thing and I think that that might have been it for me but what was something that you looked at today we've we've talked to this to death for months and months and months yeah what was something that you looked at today and thought that was unexpected I think for me it's the the curry wilder in the Ratsman practice being that first guy in there at tackle and um just what that means and I've I've already said it so I won't go into it more I think also um it was just good to see who is the starting linebacker who are the starting linebackers yeah seeing TJ Alfred out there um and then seeing what they want to do with Jay Timmans but like overall and at one point John Walker and Will Smith were out there together

but I don't think I ever saw James Smith and Andrew Kusin out there together Quay Russo did not play yep so there was there was a rumor or something about maybe being banged up yeah um so you're not gonna put them out there right in this game if there's any questions but um I think I saw him dressed maybe I think I saw him dressed I'll have to go back and look so what would your answer be to that one I I was a little bit surprised at I was a little bit surprised at how late we saw Isaiah West yes as much as as much as we heard great stuff about Isaiah West and fall camp and you know I mean this is a lot of projection because we didn't see him this spring because he was still on uh he was still on uh getting you know headhead shoulder clean up after last season and was not taking part in spring ball so we didn't see him in spring so okay but you get it to fall

camp and while we're in there it's the first three days they're not in pads for the first two days so it's completely useless in terms of evaluating running backs the third day they're in pads but they're mostly in thud so it's kind of like okay that's a very difficult time to evaluate running backs so you're really kind of taking people's word for it about okay the people who are in practice what are you seeing the coaches what are they telling you what are they what are they doing and then they were talking about him as pushing for the first running back job like at one point and then you sort of started to hear bow jaxons really taking the leap and and all of a sudden bow jaxon was you know very clearly rb1 but jikobe jaxon was very clearly rb2 to me yeah and then legend bay is legend bay which you know you have broken him out on the depth chart where he's not a running back just the legend bay position but even legend at six carrier size a west five and and was in the game earlier at running back then i say west was i was i was i was a little surprised at that

we we talked since february march six to eight touches per game legend bay being the the goal the idea the theory uh ten touches today so um if i set that as the overrunner say say nine and a half for jaxos next week for for touches for legend bay i think that's probably high i think i think i think the same way but i think your you know they were they were gonna interrupt you just because i want to talk as effective as dm i and dvnq and we're the king gonna beat those guys and and Brandon in this as well like the only reason they did each after a hundred yards receiving is because they wanted to get other stuff done next week if they need to have those two of those guys have 300 yards receiving they're gonna have 300 yards receiving so it's like spreading it out is not going to be a thing next week so right whoever gets the ball next week that tells you hecka blot of like this is the offense right yeah this is this is week one we were we were assuming there was probably a little bit of a

fledge factor there where you know you you might play the quarterback or you don't really think is the night the best guy which i think they probably did but you know there's a little bit of uh well you can you know you're playing lots of freshman in the first quarter of the game i will i will feel a lot more you know i think we've talked a bunch about legend bay we've talked a bunch about j timmans those are guys who i think you probably will see in the first quarter next week sounds like curry wilder probably will be in the first week in the first quarter i don't i think the the number of true freshman you see that early next week is going to shrink a little bit and it it'll be fascinating to see chris henry you know didn't have a great game right had a great moment at the end didn't have a great game on the whole how does that impact when you see chris henry too because if you don't see chris henry for the first half or chris henry plays four snaps next week that tells you one thing if you see him out there in drive two that tells me something very different i think he's

out there drive two drive three like maybe not drive two but yeah i think he's going to be out there in in real time in the first half because he is part of the offense and you you you saw him get open it's just you're the catching you know is the catch as probably Tim may would say but yeah i think he's going to be out there i think brock boy i think the first five guys we saw is yeah and my question now is like where is the room for Kyle Parker and that's Mike mike you asked will we see Kyle Parker next week Kyle Parker's not didn't dress today so that tells me he's not right on the cusp of you know that that's probably not a game time we didn't have an availability report my assumption is he was not a game time decision because the last we heard was he was still really not practicing or not practicing much there's going to be a ramp up period and so ramping up against taxes uh no so that's a let's see where he is for Kent state like

Kent state would be a great ramp up game i i would not expect to see him actually because they're not in a position where they're like a desperately short of wide receivers and you have to play this guy immediately when he's ready he's ready and you play him and that's great i just i don't necessarily think you're gonna see i want to show this one from Jason Warner saying Chris Henry Jr. get it get BoA's touchdown with his block i think Brock Boyd was also blocking downfield on one of those long ones uh so it's good to see these freshmen doing those things yeah and also saw Brock Boyd in the slot in this game as well that's why i kind of asked like is that where's the room for Kyle Parker now Cortez Hankton's gonna know more than than any of us in terms of who who's who's gonna be out there but Ryan Day did say in this week when it comes to who is going to play it's like well it's you know every see we're like you know it's that coach with the final call Arthur Smith's gonna have some input yeah and of course Cortez Hankton is the guy that will send them out there in terms of like all right now you go it now you go in yeah but it's gonna be the head coach in the offensive corner to say that this guy's ready to go

this guy can play this guy's not game ready and um yes so you see like Brock Boyd and right there looking for a block and Chris Henry Jr. behind him so those dude we're doing the little things which the coaches love and it's also Tom White boy isn't it funny that they do the little things and they lose their black stripes so early uh the coaches love them teammates love them and you know they have their own respective recruiting histories but they they by their ways then by the way into the locker room by doing this stuff right the blocking and things like that well and that's the thing that we talk about every year well when is this running back in a play when is the running back learned to pick up a blitz when is this wider sheep are gonna play well how is it blocking in the run game it's it's all this really not exciting stuff and ever would we say that and everyone goes who cares about that well there's a lot of people getting paid a lot of money to coach football at Ohio State who care quite a bit about that uh superchev from t cases on a

scale of one to two how weird was senior day it was I turned to someone next to me at one point it was like what an emotional day this has to be for like Jacoby Jackson Devin McEwen who are about to play their first games ever as an Ohio State Buckeye and they're already saying goodbye yeah no uh that was one of the questions I wanted to ask Earl Little back on Wednesday Tuesday or Tuesday with the the press conference to be like you know Earl yeah senior day approacher and you like doesn't seem like time is flown by your time at Ohio State uh but it was interesting because we were all situated for um to shoot the band entrance right yes and you're telling me and be ready at the 25 minute mark because that's when things gonna happen and then they start like okay now we're gonna do the uh the senior day festivities I'm like are you crazy this thing is gonna take forever and they will move there it was yeah it was seal ball you know chocolate conveyor ball players uh and and then uh we'll eventually get to it I guess but like then that just reminded me

of the the tempo that the offense played with today yeah and started with the senior day festivities yeah Smith is probably behind that he's like look can you see the weapon start saying these names faster yeah yeah it was it was definitely a get in get out get on with life kind of senior day which if you're moving senior day up from the emotional final game that's Michigan to let's get it out of the way that's they still kept the coach hug I wasn't sure if it's quickly as they were naming these guys that is like fist bump on the way by yeah yeah but they had their flowers they had their family there yeah yeah uh Keith says so excited to have the first live post game of Buckeye Insiders thank you Keith Keith is another one of our valued members Keith Keith beat me in August in terms of numbers of posts on the board he had more posts in August than I did which brings me great shame and I will I will defeat you in September and we challenge you beat Keith that's the best challenge has to go there you go one thing I did want to talk about is this gentleman

number 10 in red um he is not throwing the football he's known for throwing the football he is not throwing the football julien saying rushing touchdown Tom what it shocked you if uh one played before this I turned to jack and I said uh we're gonna see julien saying his first career rushing touchdown here well I do have to point out how convenient it is the juxta not here to verify that story I also told him jack I know I said 52 to 3 before the game I'm feeling 56 to 3 uh huh before even the first kickoff uh yeah it was it was interesting it just it that felt a little bit like uh okay check the box okay this is because this is a you're you're sort of you know I have kids so I have say uh did you go back and check your work about 12,000 times between you know over the last uh 11 years or so and this was a you know you're going back and you you know here's our work we're showing our work we you know here's the here's what we're being told and this is the offense wine and this is you know hey julien saying he's put in a lot of work in the

weight room and he's you know more willing to run the ball and okay yeah there you go now it was I saw that and I thought I wonder if they're extremely happy that he did that that texas is seeing that on film or are they thinking crap well it was a scramble it wasn't right it was not a cold run that was the thing that made me wonder because if it's a cold run then obviously you're trying to put that on film you know with our commanding our training is a mobile dude and is going to be able to get around and and is going to make plays with his legs you don't assume that what julien saying and obviously we've talked about it and I'm sure people in texas have the internet so they're aware of what people in Ohio are talking about around this team but it still did just have that on film I thought I wonder if they would have preferred he just threw that away and or if it's just do it that was for make was that fourth down no it's third down I think it was third down yeah because the fourth down was the touchdown pass to Jeremiah Smith in the back in the end zone

yeah seeing on yes and throwing up the heizman he yeah it was it I couldn't tell no photos that it doesn't exist right but I believe uh I have a lot photos under broadcast I believe that's what people are saying so um but watch of tv anyway who watches tv anyway yes so here's here's Jeremiah I have Jeremiah catching the ball in the back of the end zone I do not have his oh wow celebration there you go this Jeremiah catching the ball in the back of the end zone when you're talking there he goes the fourth down play and shout out to Mike Farino here oh wow you're gonna throw up those super chats um how's it going here is to starting off the season the right way love boys blocking his wire receiver and the Q and his the real deal two O lines still need some work yeah very much so that's free takeaways that I would agree with right there um that might be the rundown for the morning show that we'll do there you go that's the perfect one it is really it's um but yeah the O line does need work and certainly what you want to come out with this of

we've just completed game one of week one so like then in the next six days this is this is that that period and then now I often wonder uh is the cliche you the most you improve the most from between the a game against ball state and a game against Texas I don't think they're going to look better they will probably be better I don't think they're going to look better he says that the saying TD run was on fourth down so okay so in that case I mean I think they're glad he didn't throw it away I will uh I will uh re-re-re-re-send my my comment there yes and thank you so much for correcting time I for throw though if it's between superchats or correcting time please um and correct time for free all yours um and Devin Paul said great photo of Julian so I'll give you another photo of Julian there's Julian in the tunnel uh the fog the fog machine it was really humid so it gets real foggy so normally you get these really great photos as they're running out and you get the clip and it was like nope it was just I shot a video I threw it on our uh I think it's on our

Instagram story go to uh at Buckeye Insiders on Instagram and you can see it but it's uh it's like yeah that it's just here comes the team and you just hear people cheering and it's just like I'm inside the cloud is is this a Willie Nelson concert what's going on here you could like project something on all of that smoke yeah so um like Mike says it's a great picture thank you we appreciate that um I'm just gonna listen if you want your comment on here tell me how good my photos are well I can sit here we can do this all day oh no instead of that it says j ten is going to wear a throper wore it at a higher state yep um the number of throper wore winners at all I see you got Malcolm Jenkins you got Caleb Downs and Swan Wimpfield is that it I think that might be it I think so you said Malcolm Jenkins right yeah so um yeah and we know that j tenons has already done something that Malcolm Jenkins and Antoine Wimpfield did being the the number one nickel back

as a true freshman so like you know is he is he gonna be those guys or is he gonna be uh Nate climates and Dante wet there like complete failures right yeah right yeah exactly um so uh Esco Buck says if you don't acknowledge the offensive line is horrible you'll lose all credibility I mean the first thing we said on the show was yeah the offensive line wasn't very good now does that mean they are horrible no it means they did not have a good half of football that doesn't mean they're horrible that doesn't mean the season is lost and all hope is lost it means they had a bad hat yeah and and it was even more specific guys didn't have good moments in the first half it more or less resolved itself in the second half but that doesn't mean that it's fixed for next week and there's a lot of work to do between now and then Phillip Daniel said some bad moments both again yeah running and throwing in terms of the blocking there and I was just imagining like he gets yanked and I'm thinking next week against Colin Simmons and what Texas has yeah that's gonna be

you you got it that's why they pull I think that's why they pulled him and said this is not good enough yeah we're gonna look what's going on and you're gonna correct it here and look on the video but still just the the the action of pulling it some wake up you know where yeah this is not good enough there's not good enough against Paul state there's no way hell it's gonna be good enough next week so you know little wake up call there but then the reaction afterwards where he gets back in and he gives up a sack if I recall yeah yeah he did it was there was a bad one I don't I don't remember if his guy got saying I think his guy came off the edge and was like and then and then saying stepped up and someone right can't get it because all of you yeah other like we were pretty much engaged and that's yeah I think it was like a linebacker that maybe came through yeah but yeah it's like it's when you're only rushing for two yards carry until the long rush like your first 20 some areas are getting you know 40 yards or whatever it's like that's bad and yeah and that's there and there was nowhere to run on several of those carries so yeah

the the offensive line is a concern and no reason to think it isn't other than you know but also they're gonna look at what went wrong what did we do wrong who went wrong yeah and if a change needs to be made like it's not gonna shock me if Austin Cyril Veld is your right tackle next week no like no although I mean gave the encycl was the next guy in that that was that was surprised I mean I was assuming that was gonna be Josh Padilla but then Josh Padilla was at times wearing the number 81 jersey which was I think he was in like that bison package which we've seen that in the past but that's generally the six-thuff offensive lineman and that was when Donovan Jackson was a freshman he was in that in 2021 right away Luke Montgomery played in that I think as a true freshman or a regid freshman and so that's kind of like the six-thuff offensive lineman and when you need a little extra beef you put your six-thuff offensive lineman in a tight end jersey and you you play it Josh Friar I think maybe did that as well

and so you that tells me that Josh Padilla maybe the six-thuff offensive lineman and maybe they would you know they wanted to keep that as part of the game plan today but also it was it was surprising good point by Keith yeah that was the end of the words first starting left tackle for us remember dude named Josh Simmons didn't look great at the start of his first season here you've heard of the end up that's true as well they're both third year players uh they get some people mentioning the Ryan Day comments on walking on water on the offensive lineman yep right yeah this was kind of just like the attitude they're playing with the excitement for the offensive lineman right yeah what he meant to say time it correct me if I'm wrong walking on air walking on the top floor you got sunshine where it's just like yeah yeah very happy very happy nothing they are you know the singer song about that I don't know that there is one no but it's too bad just like they were very very upbeat yeah um Jordan wants to know anything concerning about not getting home and rushing the quarterbacks seem like the same story with Kenyatta getting pressure but not the set I mean it's also a mobile quarterback so like they did get their hands on him at times and flushed him out but you know

they got him once and that was towards the end uh Kenyatta Jackson not being able to bring him down I think this is just a different cat but yeah yeah um yeah it's always a concern when you're not getting the four or five sacks I like you think you should right um and and they did bring him down yeah he's did they do any lineback I didn't there was like one nickel blitz I don't recall any many linebacker blitzes I don't recall any I don't know how many there were there's going to be so much stoptop to rewatch from this game oh yeah we're gonna we're gonna rewatch this and go oh we forgot to talk about these 17 things yeah these games are always kind of a a little bit of a blur as we're we're kind of going through the the game itself here's James Smith and uh this was this ended up it's not easy to bring this quarterback down right he got to do it big dude and he he ended up horse coloring him what was really impressive as he tracked him down he chased him down oh yeah yeah James Smith was moving well and and there were times that it looked like he and sometimes it's angles that I can't see that you know he or running away from an angle kind of thing

but it there were times when it felt like he he was running away from minebackers and so for yeah for James Smith to run him down was that was he's he's someone that we have been hearing about since January about you know hey this is a guy who is really athletic really big strong brings a lot to the defensive line but Edgar Houston played earlier and more than he did didn't he um I'm sorry what Edgar Houston played earlier and he's Smith right yeah he played it was like it was a third drive yeah yeah yeah now he was good when he was uh when he was there but still and still I'm still waiting to see something from Edrick where it's just okay now yeah I believe like he's very disruptive still waiting for me yeah uh uh S. of R S. of V. R. Giles says this is so confusing to me you guys need to switch places do we always well I guess in silver in the two box I guess you're maybe you're on the other side of it well and yeah sure but also were mirrored so

like you're not mirrored like but life post games man I've been in the sun all day don't make me do yeah I don't even know what version of math that is yeah Keith says that QB was a freaking bowling ball and do it normal size QB gets like five times today yeah I mean they got their hands on it felt like several times and just couldn't quite get them down and and you know arch archmaning to the point here is going to be um difficult to difficult to chase down you know he's he's gonna he's gonna present a whole different challenge hardwell Reese changed him down last year I thought he's not counting through that door folks yeah right yeah exactly leg row yeah yeah playing that that Sam linebacker I'll know I'll go back and watch if I ever saw Riley Penny John there at that end you know Sam linebacker if it was always a leg row I think it was a leg row and Alfred I'm pretty sure because I saw I saw Alfred like rushing off the edge several

times all right so yeah so much to you you just up there we get we had no PA for like the first three and a half quarters which was annoying because it's like generally if you're in the press box they'll tell you like this this personal tackle this person now and quarterback or whatever just information that you're getting like on the TV screen or from the broadcast it's like who's on that tackle and you know who's getting credit for it essentially yeah um so we didn't we didn't have that but and that's why I never knew never knew Josh Perdillo is in the game yeah yeah I texted you asking about Josh Perdillo you're like what that's why it's like I got to go back and watch all this stuff again you can see where everybody is there's just so much going on at any one time that you're all like all of these different packages like Map Trisha calm down like yeah yeah yeah and and wrote back to the pace from the offense that was another thing where I've kind of got used to the slow pace uh now they move fast again it's like I'm yeah trying to keep up trying to

type all this down here to me asking you questions talking to jog it's like I don't know thank tell this offense to slow down man you're snapping to follow 17 seconds and what are you doing? you monsters are really asking for this and now you've gotten it and look at how miserable it's made Tony's life so um do we want to hit the Michael Pettit analysis video let's do that um so this is Michael Pettit he's one of our skim insiders at Bucket Insiders.com he enralls fault him to a phenomenal job if you haven't seen them on our YouTube channel before they are very knowledgeable I feel like we'll be answering questions on the board and I'm like I only know the answer to this question because I listened to Ross and Michael when I talked to Ross and Michael on our shows but yeah that phenomenal phenomenal insight and they have we have exes and owes threads on our board talking about a bunch of this stuff answering questions uh they both write articles we have a whole scheme section on the front page of Bucket Insiders.com so I'd encourage you to check that out but here's Michael just a few minutes just some thoughts on the game on uh just sort of

what he saw what he learned. Michael Pettit here with Bucket Insiders.com uh what I want to do is just kind of give my immediate takeaways from this uh opening game of the 2026 season um so just a few things to discuss here uh first and foremost something I want to get out of the way early but I do think needs to be discussed and really should not just get swept under the rug in light of the fact that it was a very decisive win against an overmash opponent the special teams today were abhorrent I mean very bad and this is a problem that has been a consistent issue for essentially Ryan Day's entire tenure but there were a lot of problems today and it was not just you know Legend Bay the kickoffs the kick return stuff you also had um you know fair catching and upon at the five yard line you had a penalty on punt return you had a penalty on kickoff you had no blocking

on a different punt return I mean there was a lot of bad special teams play today. Now again it's easy to overlook this in light of the final score and everything but this is a problem I mean this has to get addressed because in close games special teams can often be just the deciding factor because they're you know a team has evenly matched on offense and defense and you know whoever makes the better special teams plays could be what flips the game and I don't really care if whether or not Ohio State makes a bunch of big plays and special teams what I do want to see is mistake-free special teams and that's just something we're still not getting we we didn't see that today you know hopefully it changes one game does not automatically mean the special team does going to be subpar for the entire season but it was incredibly discouraging and I'm really kind of feel astonished here that I'm sitting here talking about special teams again already this year

now moving on from that gonna focus a little more on the negative before we get to some more positive or neutral things I didn't think that the running backs were particularly inspiring today and again I know it might be easy to you know forget about the first half because both Bo Jackson and Jacobi Jackson had some better plays in the second half but the fact is there is still a lot of times where it looked like you know the running backs weren't getting more yards than what was blocked for and you know just did not give me reason to think that there's some vast improvement in the running back room so far again this is just one game but this is just my thoughts and moving forward kind of on the same vein the offensive line was clunky at times I do think that you know there was some subbing even in the first half and I again I'm not a big fan of a bunch of subbing in particular on a position like offensive line that's a cohesive unit it needs to be a

cohesive unit so when you have guys subbing in and out it can kind of mess with the flow and I know at one point you know they moved Austin Saraville out to write tackle for a drive but at times I was not thrilled with the offensive lines blocking but you know of course it's not on them and this brings me to a different point which is that the running backs past protection abilities were also a big issue last year that often don't get talked about and again today there is a case of a running back giving up a sack so again I kind of just wanted to hit on the negative things first here I think most people who watch today would agree that yes the special teams were a problem the running backs didn't do a ton to inspire a bunch of confidence the offensive line was shaky I think those are all things that you know any buck-eye fan could agree on now moving on to some more

neutral stuff it looks like the base run play this year is going to be stretch I know Ohio State fans might have sort of a complex relationship with that based on the early 2020s but you know that's kind of what I expected I expected Arthur Smith to run a lot of stretch because that's what he did in the NFL and you know there was some big plays off of it today it wasn't all bad again it was ball state but I'll be interested to see what the run game looks like again against some more real opponent and we'll see that soon of course the Texas next week but there was not a whole lot of run game diversity today and again I think part of that is probably because there's no reason to put on but your entire playbook on film for Texas to be able to prepare for so yeah that's just something to look for going forward but a lot of stretch today including a lot of stretch to the weak side which is a wrinkle in it on itself because even Ryan Day was a heavy stretch guy in the run game he typically did not run it to the weak side moving on to some other

things that are a little more neutral I do wonder what the linebacker rotation is going to look like this season we saw you know the top four guys Pierce Allegro Alfred and Pedagion all play quite a bit today some of that was because ball state did run a lot of 12 personnel which a lot of Ohio state to use a lot of three linebacker looks but just in general it seemed like there was a lot of rotation I didn't think any guys in particular looked bad or absolutely great either again it's just hard to tell because of the opponent but I do wonder if there's if the starting linebacker's room is not something that's been completely set yet or if we're going to see more rotation or what again I don't think a linebacker is a position where a bunch of rotation is a good thing I don't really like rotating in the back seven on defense so I would like for them to be able to settle on a top two guys and then you know against 12 personnel have a third linebacker who they know they want to bring

in that's something to look for going forward I think you know how much guys play against Texas next week will be enough to tell us what the staff actually thinks of the peck in order at linebacker not to end on something a little more positive obviously you know the passing game was very good today and again it's both state I get it but saying was accurate and it wasn't just Jeremiah Smith I mean Brandon and I made some plays Devin McEwen was phenomenal I mean he was making plays all over the field so I do think that you know you lose car and I'll take and you kind of assume there's going to be a drop off in the receiver room obviously we talk about this receiver room maybe having more depth than last year's receiving room but I will say I do think the top three guys in this room are pretty good as well I think Devin McEwen really showed why the staff has been so

positive when talking about him and you know of course even Brock Boyd had a play today Chris Henry had a couple hiccups but he finally made a play as well so yeah I think the passing game looked good and lastly you know of course the defense looked good they gave up you know they didn't give up a bunch of points they didn't give up a bunch of yards overmatched opponent but yeah so not much to like take away just because I don't know how much it means to look good again such an overmatched opponent these are just my takeaways from the game again I even have a feeling that one of the big talking points amongst the fan base from this game is going to be the run game looking a little pedestrian at times I still think one of the more shocking things is what I said first which is the special teams errors because that's something that has to absolutely get fixed going forward but we're going to find out a lot more next week hopefully they can play a clean game on special teams and the offense and defense can both do their jobs.

So we're having you may notice the camera angle has changed we're having Tony and everyone's first week everyone's put the cliche everyone's game show improves the most from week one week two look the phone finally ran out of juice thought well here's the thing it would have been fine for an hour time that's what we're planning on going on so I went beyond that is not my fault super chat from Mike Farina I know you guys have had the chance to watch it but Texas State has 298 yards of offense against Texas to the end of the third and it was 225 at half so not just garbage time yards scores misleading not been impressed and we talked about this a little bit on the pregame show where Texas State is a substantially better team than ball state I mean and you know this is there's a lot of projection involved in this but preseason SP plus Texas State was ranked three touchdowns better than ball state so maybe ball state ends up being a better team than that but you know I would be very hesitant to make real apples to apples comparisons between these

games but I do think that's a good reminder that it's week one and you know you look at the team that you're a fan of and go well they're terrible and they can't do these seven things and but you look around the nation and it's like yeah a lot of teams look like that and a lot of times the teams that are the peaking in September teams don't end up doing great later right yeah it's last year uh Florida State week one beat Alabama and everyone went haza the nobles are back extended Mike Norville yeah so yeah I think this is it's probably a good idea to not overreact either positively or negatively to week one yeah no I would agree with that just get out of dodge with the win wherever you are you start the season with nobodies gonna remember this yeah in November exactly yeah exactly and and yeah a lot of a lot of people choice his boys he just tied it up pending extra point yes speaking of getting out of dodge

with the win right but Oregon has this is not the first time that they've been in that situation they've had they's Boise State against Boise State they had a game against Idaho two years ago and he was 2024 where they played Idaho and week one and it was like in the third quarter it was still very much a game and you're like what is going on and then then the Boise State game yeah right yeah yeah yeah yeah uh once someone wants to know if he's any any relation to Andy Pettit's uh not that I am no no no because Andy Pettit had to e on the end of the name so no no I would never I would never employ any relative of Yankee of a Yankee not not in not in my house um all right so anything else that we think we need to hit no but we will well we will be doing a Texas Texas state rewatch yes or first watch and do it a reaction show to that we will do it Ohio State rewatch of the Boise State game the unfortunate thing about playing Texas so early is there's there's only one

game to rewatch right I guess we'll get a baseline of it there um it is going to be a very busy week and then we will hit the hit the uh the tarmac uh Thursday hopefully at a reasonable speed um and then we'll be in Austin Thursday I forget people keep asking what time of the plan I don't know man as Thursday will be there will be in Austin Thursday evening we will be there all day Friday have some fun stuff planned during the day have a meetup for Bucket Insiders.com members Friday night in Austin speaking of that I did want to throw in the somebody just joined are they're Kelly O'Connor um one plus one subscriber I just joined Bucket Insiders thank you Kelly for doing that say hello to us over on the board I don't know at what point tonight I'm going to be able to uh you know there's also my computer is like down to 12 percent uh-huh but like it's Saturday's a very very busy as you guys know but uh and thanks for signing up again we welcome everybody over there yeah yeah and and it is a very fun we've had several of our members

yeah chiming in here and I think you can tell we're punching their comments in because they're making intelligent comments because it is a it is a smart group of folks and it's been it's a very fun like I was on Twitter today for the first time in quite a while because it was like I don't really want to be on Twitter because you get you know how it is and it's exactly right and other than the fact that Tony's there it's completely not like that at Bucket Insiders.com so no uh and so yeah go ahead and if you're watching on youtube subscribe at the bell to be notified all of that stuff because like I said we're gonna have a bunch of stuff this week and uh looking forward to it got a Michigan Monday podcast on Monday we've got to uh-huh rewatch some Michigan uh- Weston Michigan uh first watch it tonight I don't know if I'll get to what you want to say do they do they play they play they play they'll be playing the same time as clubs at an LSU so wait have to watch that one on Sunday then yeah so there you go um again thanks everybody for tuning in thank you for finding us thank you for sticking with us that will do it from here uh we will see you tomorrow and day after every single day we'll see you in about
