Inmate Charged with Murdering Soham Murderer

0:00On March 11th, a 43-year-old prison inmate named Anthony Russell faces a murder charge for killing Ian Huntley, the notorious Soham murderer. Huntley, who was 52, died in hospital after an assault at H&P Franklin in County Durham on February 26th. Earlier this week, Russell appeared via video link at Newton Aclyph Magistrate's Court, where he confirmed his name and address but entered no plea. He is due back in Newcastle Crown Court tomorrow for the next hearing. He had been serving a life sentence with a minimum of 40 years for murdering 10-year-old schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman back in. 2002. Their deaths shocked the nation and drew massive police searches. Huntley's girlfriend at the time, Maxine Carr, served time for helping cover up the crimes by providing a false alibi. This was not Huntley's first prison attack. He needed 21 stitches after one in 2010. The Ministry of Justice called Huntley's original crime one of the most devastating in British history with thoughts remaining with the victims.
